Bought one of these today for B. Been looking at bumbo type things and this looks like it will last a while. Bit more expensive than a bumbo, but my brother won on his football coupon at the weekend and offered to get it for us! Much easier when its not my money I'm spending!!

Good luck ate the bum clinic Buck!

stuffedmk · 08/08/2011 20:44

I just got a call from the cats protection league. I had called them aswell earlier, trying to get a different answer to the rspca but hadn't heard back. I so wish I had waited a few more hours but i was panicked by horror stories of fleas killing kittens. I don't know why I was so worried, I mean they had most likely had them since birth anyway, but the woman on the phone did a good job of guilt tripping me so I said ok take them.
Anyway the cats protection woman said she would have just treated the fleas and left them here....like I wanted.....so frustrated with myself.
I have however been in touch with the RSPCA woman and she has said that she can keep me updated on how the mum is doing and if she will need re-homing (after checking for microchip) and we will be able to apply to re-home her. Of course they will do all the vet stuff and if I then want to adopt her (and am successful) I get to pay a 'donation' of at least 50 quid. in the mean time she has been sent to a fosterer. So she is in a house being looked after while the RSPCA pay for all the treatment....why couldn't they just leave her here instead of giving her the stress of another change.

GRRRRRRR Sorry had to rant.........will stop going on about it now.

BuckminsterFullerene · 08/08/2011 21:18

Well done Ali!

Stuffed, you did your best, but unfortunately the RSPCA have demonstrated the logic on which this country is founded.

Speaking of which - hope the April Family London Contingent are all safe. Keep us posted. Let us know if there's anything you need. Stay safe.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/08/2011 21:21

Situations like that are so frustrating Stuffed. You only acted out of kindness so don't beat yourself up about it.

Good luck at the clinic and physio Buck.

What is 8.5 kilos in English Ali? I haven't dared weigh I, I can see and feel he is a bifa! I may just weigh him out of curiousity though and let you know.

Early weaning. Well from what I have read I choose not to wean before 6 months. The developmental markers for weaning are:

loss of the Tongue poke reflex (you can test this by putting a clean spoon into their mouth, and see if they try and poke it out with their Tongue ((a natural reflex to stop choking)),

sitting up unaided (to minimise the risk of choking, baby's should never be reclined when being fed solids),

being able to bring food to their mouths themselves - if they have the hand eye coordination to do it themselves, then they are ready. They can then control what goes into their mouth.

The arrival of teeth.

All of these developmental stages arrive (on average) at 6 months of age. Also the stomach and gut are ready for all the food groups at 6 months. So for me it makes sense to wait until 6 months.

Ds only goes 2 hours between feeds in the day (both boobs) and that's actually quite normal. The 4 hourly feed is a bit of a myth IMO, maybe this analogy will help you understand how bf babies feed.

Sometimes all I want is a drink.
Other times I fancy a drink and a biscuit.
Sometimes I fancy a more filling snack like a sandwich.
Then sometimes I have a three course meal and quite a lot to drink. Then even though I'm full I'll have a coffee to finish the meal off, but then the chocolates are passed round and even though I'm stuffed to bursting I still eat a couple.

Kitty - I've got a Maclaren, I'm not sure what chassis it is though, I'll see if I can find out and I'll let you know.

LisMcA · 08/08/2011 21:26

I second Bucks shout out to our London mums and babies, stay safe.

I really do wonder what they think they will achieve by doing all this.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/08/2011 21:34

I think I must have missed something, I better turn on the news.

Kitty - this is the maclaren I've got. I 'm still none the wiser to what chassis it is though Blush

Even though it is suitable from birth I don't think I would put a newborn or young baby in it. I think we put ds in it when he could sit unaided, so 6 months+. it's well made and great for driving round town! Once you go from pram to buggy you realise what a pita prams are.

BuckminsterFullerene · 08/08/2011 21:44

ILTMI thanks for clarifying. F's got teeth & hand-to-mouth, not quite sitting yet and haven't tested the tongue thing yet.

There's a bunch of yoofs destroying other peoples property and stealing en masse. They're calling it a riot but they don't really have a cause. It's all very pathetic. Sad thing is there's a lot of copy cat situations happening in other cities, apparently. Hope it all gets shut down sharpish and people are held accountable for their actions. Sad

kittycatcat · 08/08/2011 21:44

I think that's the one iltmi

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/08/2011 21:46

18 and a half pounds ILike. He is huge, and can almost sit himself up.

The rioting is scary, it is spreading to other cities.

ecuse · 08/08/2011 21:59

Yep, it is quite scary here. It's about a mile away from us at the moment although according to twitter the corner shop a few streets away may have also been targeted. We should be fine as we're down a small quiet cul-de-sac well away from the main road, but I'm feeling pretty nervous. Joanna's been asleep for nearly 2 hours now, but I can't leave her alone - just sitting on the bed, watching things unfold on Twitter and making sure nobody loots my baby...

BuckminsterFullerene · 08/08/2011 22:18

Thinking of you ecuse. It must be awful. Can you get out of London tomorrow? Although I expect DH/P's employers wouldn't be sympathetic.

I can't relax and I'm in semi-rural devon.

I hope they get the marines in to give all those naughty boys & girls a smacked bottom and early bed. And then enforce the grounding till September (shut down operation & x-box networks too!)

I've got to stop watching it on twitter...

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 08/08/2011 22:34

Oh ecuse Sad Could you and Joanna go and stay with anyone?

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/08/2011 06:05

everyone ok tho morning? haven't been able to sleep since F woke at 4.

kittycatcat · 09/08/2011 06:34

Morning buck. you still up? S fed at 2 and now. Hope he goes back down after his feed.
Ditto buck. everyone ok?

Cyclebump · 09/08/2011 06:50

Our town centre's been hit (Ealing). On the BBC footage you can see the afar Kids shop where we've just bought H's cot. They took it out of their (now smashed) window yesterday weirdly enough.

It's bloody ridiculous, they've burnt out a shop with flats above it, people could have been killed.

I feel sorry for the police, there just aren't enough of them for this, bring on the army I say.

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/08/2011 06:50

#riotcleanup is trending! Makes me feel hopeful. Hope its like the when the statue of liberty arrives in ghostbusters 2!

I've spent the last 2 hours wondering how far away my credit card would get us, what tinned goods I should add to the tesco order and other paranoid musings.

Cyclebump · 09/08/2011 06:52

Fara Kids, not afar!

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/08/2011 07:09

what's "fara kids"?

and www.riotcleanup.co.uk

Cyclebump · 09/08/2011 10:11

It's a charity shop that sells children's clothes and cots and things. They have lovely stuff and the cot we bought was an Ikea one that looks practically new for £50 less than it's normal price (we're buying a new mattress obviously).

LisMcA · 09/08/2011 11:15

Oh my god! It's just mindless. Makes me want to cry that there are little families just like ours caught up in all this.

Everyone please stay safe, if htere is anything we can do for us please let us know. I have a couple of spare rooms (perhaps an overreaction from a Scottish softie). Chances of rioting here are very slim. that would only happen if the local pub ran out of beer :).

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/08/2011 11:51

Cycle I've just seen that shop on the news.

It is awful Sad

I am getting more and more irritated by the media/BBC who seem to be trying to place blame left right and centre, except on the perpetrators themselves! Grrrrrrr Angry

Cyclebump · 09/08/2011 12:19

Apparently West Ealing is smashed to bits, DP went through there this morning. I'm now watching an interview with an Ealing woman who had people in her HOUSE! Bastards. And Fara is not the ply charity shop to be smashed in.

We're far enough off the main drag that we'll be untouched but it's just not nice. I know it's terribly sexist but I'm glad I have DP at home with me. Apparently people were considering going to help the police on FB last night but thankfully DP thought it was a bad bad idea.

daisylulu · 09/08/2011 13:56

cycle and others near the violence stay safe. I'm apocalyptic with rage at these bastards- my sister works in the met police and has been called into work to help. It makes me so sad at all the businesses which are being destroyed and families in fear.

mrsw is your LO still not feeding well? My DD has days like that too- sometimes I think it might be down to her teething though she does have milk protein allergy/reflux too so it could be related to that.

J has been very unsettled since her jabs last Wednesday. We gave her some calpol but it made her projectile vomit- not sure what that's all about. She's also decided that she no longer wants her daytime naps at all. Not even car rides and walking help! Am hoping the cranial osteopath tomorrow will help resettle her...

Cyclebump · 09/08/2011 14:22

Am immensely proud of my DP's brother, he has the day off so is helping to clean up the town centre with a group of his friends. Well done him.

kitstwins · 09/08/2011 19:40

Hello all,
Slightly surreal evening this end - all of Putney boarded up in anticipation of the looting, theiving opportunistic scum rioters that are expected to descend tonight (think Twitter posts have indicated it). Not sure what to expect really. It makes me so livid - that these people are able to define a country by their actions; dominate news when much worthier people are suffering in the world. People are starving to death in a hideous drought in Africa and yet this lot are whining because they don't have a plasma tv. Solution: Set fire to Currys and nick one! I wish they'd go all Polizei and drag out the water cannons. I've gone so Tory I'm practically sitting here in a blue suit and bouffant power wig.

Anyway, babies. Mine is 17 weeks and teething like a madman. I've bought an amber necklace but it seems to be doing naff all, other than scare me senseless that he's going to somehow choke on it. No time to namecheck posts but hope all are well. Will trawl through properly later and catch up.

Weaning decisions here are simple; no early weaning at this end. I'm scarred from early weaning the girls (on the advice of a hopeless health visitor) so this time it's when he's ready. At the moment he shows zero signs. Still working on the 5am niggles but it seems to be getting better.

I would sell my mother for a week sleeping on a sunlounger!
