Morning all, back from our hols now and on the bus into work. We had a fab time in Whitby and Mother Nature was kind enough to give us the best weather so lots of beach fun - sand castle building, rock pooling, catching crabs, donkey rides, ice cream eating etc etc. I've even got a hint of a tan on my legs Smile

I'll do a full catch up tonight, when I have a real keyboard, but wanted to say that the gel stuff Vaj recommended for little Asp's pox is called Virasoothe (I think), but there were several on the shelf in Boots. How is dd2 today Asp? and has dd1 got it too? How is the pox in the Urbs house now?

Back later ladies x

ZuleikaJambiere · 06/07/2011 08:25

Oh, and I forgot to say that Jam recommend oat baths when DD had pox (a handful of porridge in some muslin) which worked well for us

DeidreBarlow · 06/07/2011 09:13

Avo & urbs how's the pox today?

ZJ I love Whitby. We are thinking of camping that way in a couple of weeks. I really hope we get good weather, sounds like you had a fab time.

Right sat in the car and really should drag myself into work! See ya later ladies

EffiePerine · 06/07/2011 10:09

Hello ladies! Sorry for the silence, camping then managed to forget password, oops. Camping was brilliant, beautiful weather, AIRBEDS (bliss) and an afternoon messing about on the beach. Only sightly marred when woken up by plonkers in the next time coming back completely wazzed and making lots of noise (thankfully not waking up the boys).

Asp: sorry DD2 is suffering. DS2 had it very badly as well. We found the emollient cream with calamine in quite good, but then his spots got infected so not sure if I should recommend it.

Have been feeling bad about faffing about on computer and not playing with boys, so trying to cut down MN time! Plus I find posting on my phone a pain in the arse. Now I've found my password will try the App instead.

Wine: DH just bought a tasting case from our local independent wine merchants (he;s been doing some work for them and got a discount). Best by a long long way has been some Spanish stuff. The Alsatian white was very nice as well. If anyone's interested I'll get the details from DH - all I can remember was the Spanish stuff had a big cross on the label.

EffiePerine · 06/07/2011 10:12

TENT. No time travel involved.

Rubes: the reason my posts are brief is because I am usually racing ahead of the gremlin in my phone who tries to eat anything over 2 sentences!

DeidreBarlow · 06/07/2011 16:54

Dd just had her first sports day. It was chaotic. They were all in little teams of mixed ages doing different tasks. It was a non competitive version which was rubbish as I wad all ready to run round the school field in the parents race! Still DD enjoyed it which is the main thing I suppose.

DeidreBarlow · 06/07/2011 18:30

Yay my new running trainers have arrived, gosh I'm such a saddo!

I'm hoping they'll turn me into an Olympic athlete ha ha.

EffiePerine · 06/07/2011 21:14

Beans: if your ankle is dodgy, please rest it! You don't want to end up with problems later on.

I found the app! Much easier and I like the smiley shortcuts.

Lady: belated congrats on moving Smile

ZuleikaJambiere · 06/07/2011 22:32

Hello my ladies, I have a computer and keyboard now, so I can catch up properly. I?ve been lurking whilst we were away but have forgotten everything I wanted to say so I?m going back to read it all again

I don?t think I ever got round to saying that I thought Asp?s day at the palace sounded fab and the best place to remember your Mum from. Did you use the ladies rather than the flower beds in the end? I was lucky enough to go to Buck House a long while ago and the toilets were the poshest I?d ever seen ? mind you, I was a student then, so anything that still had loo roll still available was posh in my book!

How has bedtime been going, with the C&L incentive Jump? Has S earned her book yet? It sounds like you had the loveliest morning with Spot, please can I come to the joint wedding and get a ginormous hat? Grin

Jolly I was terrified on your behalf, reading about L being locked in. She is super brave, as are you

Your house sounds like it is really coming together LadyT Smile

Our primary school sports days used to be ?non competitive? Deids, no fun at all I thought. I was thrilled when I got to secondary school and there were prizes, of course by then everyone else was too cool to run, so I won loads even though I was crap

Well, I think that must be one of my least rambly posts ? excellent work considering I had the end of the last thread to catch up on as well. Now should I take myself off to bed, or should I waffle about nowt for another 15 minutes ...

LadyThompson · 06/07/2011 23:22

DB, that sports day sounds a bit strange but if the kids enjoyed it more that way, well....maybe it's ok. You know you just felt cheated out of winning the Mummy's Race Wink

Glad you had a nice time, Effie. I am a big fan of Spanish whites so would like the name of that wine if you have it. I have got a £15 voucher for Laithwaites and I am going to order a case of half bottles. It will aid my attempts at more modest consumption (I do drink v modestly in my view, 1-2 bottles per week. On the other hand, that's probably the recommended limit)

And glad you had a lovely time, ZJ. Sounds gorgeous. Have only ever heard fab things about Whitby.

Spot, am so pleased you managed to catch up with JJ.

Invis, do NOT google the achievements of your peers if you wish to stay sane Grin Whenever I do that, it only results in my wanting to jump out the window...

Am going home tomorrow night. This is the only place in the world I ever properly relax. We don't do much but the girls get so much out of being with my Mum and her DP - as do I! Only thing which hasn't been so good is that I've been sharing a bed with DD1 this time as DD2 needs the proper cot. And DD1 thrashes about in bed a lot.

In fact, she's stirring so although I had more people to respond to I ought to stop. Hope our poxy ones are over the worst.

Rubena · 07/07/2011 08:56

Deids what shoes did you get? I seem to only get on with Asaics. I'm ordering new one's myself to give this running lark a go.
Vag we are still undecided about what to do / where to go for a hol would you believe. Torn between the US to see dh's fam or France / Spain and drive. Leaning towards the latter. Been trawling through Gite's for last min deals. Would love to meet up with you lot if we do that!

DeidreBarlow · 07/07/2011 09:13

Good morning ladies! Who stole summer?
Rubes I got Asics 1160's. Got them for a bargain at Go Outdoors. They are really light. Going for a run after work to try them out.

Lady have a lovely time at your mums.

Oh Effie both wine & camping sounded great.

Righto work time x

Rubena · 07/07/2011 09:41

Thanks Deids, I was looking at those too as they are low arch. They are more exp at Sports Direct so thanks. Let me know what you think, though I'm hardly one to be commenting on running shoes! Laughable.

VagolaJahooli · 07/07/2011 09:42

I'm an asics gel foundation girl. They are a bit tricky to get online (no idea why), so I usually have to go to a running shop and have them ordered in. But then I haven't bought a pair since just after DS2 was born so maybe they are easier to get now. Which site did you get yours from ladies. Have just discovered John Lewis deliver to NL, there is much excitement in the expat community here.

Rubes much as I would love you to go to France, I think get as many trips to US in as you can before DD1 is bigger. Personally at this age I find flying with them easier than driving, but then my boys werent much for long drives, maybe yours are better. Both are fine now but as littlies they were screaming demons on long drives.

I'm having friends over for a bbq on Saturday and they have quite good taste in wines, (well the hubby does, the wife is a western suburbs of Sydney girl like me so just enjoys what her hubby picks out) they always treat us to amazing wines when we go to their's so a name for that Spanish white would be good. I'm doing prawns and chicken skewers for them, a bit of a mix of Aussie & Dutch (the dutch are big on chicken sate with sate sauce due to the Indonesian thing, bit of a national dish like curry in UK).

Deids DS1's school has a non competitive sports day, its the only thing about montessori education that I don't like. Being Australian the sports day, cross country race & the swimming carnival were the big days of our school year, not to mention the 2 hours of sport we did on a Friday afternoon. We are going to have to put our boys into sports activities out of school to get our competitive parenting fix.

right have to get moving having a friend over with her kids to play and tea. Us mummies are making the most of the nice weather and having Pimms. I need to get out & get some bits for the kids tea & Pimms necessaries.

VagolaJahooli · 07/07/2011 09:46

Should have said have a friend coming over, thank goodness she's not here now, as I am slabbed out on the couch with the boys in my PJs

Rubena · 07/07/2011 10:07

True Vag, but if we do France it'll be the ferry then somewhere in the Sth West so not much of a drive on the other side. When I go back to work I'll be US-ed out pretty quick although the kids wouldn't get to go as often - true. DD is already a bit long for the bassinet although not over the weight for it so I will be scrunching her up to make her look like she fits Hmm Still undecided, but if we do end up in France, you're not obligated to visit Grin Yum - chicken Satay - one of dh fav's

EffiePerine · 07/07/2011 16:02

Sorry, the Spanish was red not white! Obv not making myself clear. There was a really good South African white though - The Foundry? Will get details from DH this eve Smile

EffiePerine · 07/07/2011 16:03

Oh and we have booked our hols - 5 days camping in Suffolk in August. Wish us luck with the weather...

ZuleikaJambiere · 07/07/2011 17:21

Pop and bum - I love my job so much I got engrossed and forgot to leave to collect DD from nursery Blush. Poor love will be on her own for half an hour Sad. What a plonker I am

TrudyVotion · 07/07/2011 20:00

ZJ did you seriously forget to collect DD?!

ZuleikaJambiere · 07/07/2011 20:12

Yep, how awful. I just didn't see the time ticking on and then realised I was half an hour late. It's not the first time either, well it's the first time I've forgotten to pick her up, but more than once I've driven half way to work and then remembered she's still in the car and nursery was 10 miles back Blush

Fortunately nursery were forgiving tonight as she was injured today and they were embarrassed themselves. Her 'boyfriend', who loves her dearly, got over enthusiastic kissing her and she has a big love bite on her cheek. Apparently he got a telling off, but I'm quite amused, at least his intentions were good and he wasn't being mean or aggressive, he just needs to work on his technique Grin

Asparaguses · 07/07/2011 22:08

Lol ZJ, that will be the hormones... how are you feeling by the way?

Deids, how did your meeting with DD's school go re splitting her from her friends at the end of reception? We have just got DD's class list for next year and it has made me cry! For the first two terms DD didn't seem to make particular friends and I was a bit concerned. Then suddenly she had this little group of 5 girls who she loves. Three of them are going into the other year one class. There is just DD and one of the others in her class. Plus there are only three mums who I ever chat to outside the school gate and all three of them have kids going to the other class. Agghhhhhhh.

DeidreBarlow · 08/07/2011 07:41

ZJ never mind, agree with aspa it'll be your hormones. How is DDs cheek today did her suited leave a mark?

Aspa DD actually loved her new class and teachers when she had her moving up day. I've spoke to the Head and said ultimately if DD is happy then that's all that matters. Plus they share a resource area with the other class and she even says "I'll play with my friends at lunchtime so its okay". I know I'm not the only mum concerned about how they've split them all up. It's like they all made friends and now they've all been split up again:(
On a plus note her new teacher is young and very beautiful but also an exceptional teacher I'm told. DH is very much looking forward to parents evening:o

DeidreBarlow · 08/07/2011 07:42

ZJ that should read suiter. I really should check when I post on my phone:o

ZuleikaJambiere · 08/07/2011 08:41

Deids your DD sounds very adaptable and also mature about it all, it's great that she's happy about it

DD does have a bruise, it was quite bad last night but is fading already. Wish I'd taken a photo. Hormones are getting to me, I'm quietly shedding a tear on the bus reading about the end of Harry Potter Blush

Is Dd2's pox on the mend Asp?

Have a lovely weekend at your Mum's LadyT
