So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
vallinnapod · 03/02/2012 09:23

Nope, neither expressing or feeding make an immediate difference and the all of a sudden, around 24-36 hours later, it clears Angry

CC I feel your pain. DS has been back in our bed full time for the past week. DH really encourages it but it's Ok for him as he turns his back and goes to sleep! Must have fed 6 or 7 times last night.

We had a frustrating day too as it was his MRI scan. He was meant to have it under oral sedation. He wasn't allowed to feed from 7am and we were to get to the hospital for midday. He wasn't given the sedation until 3pm which he threw back up so had no effect Angry We have to go back at some point in the future for a general anaesthetic Sad

nickelhasababy · 03/02/2012 11:07

bizarre.
I had a horrid bit of hardness in my right boob yesterday - similar to the one i had in my left boob a week or so ago.
Obviously not as bad as yours.
It felt really bruised, and I ended up going upstairs and squeezing my boob until it felt softer.
oh, the waste of milk though!
(didn't have a receptacle for it)

nickelhasababy · 03/02/2012 11:09

oh, that sounds awful vallinna - why would they put a baby through that? :(

nickelhasababy · 03/02/2012 11:10

we tried to get her to sleep in her moses basket last night! Grin
hahahahahaha

She screamed, so I held the basket and rocked it back and forth like her parm, silence, but still awake.
so i put it back on its stand, scream.
rocked it side to side, got silence.
carried on for a few minutes, then tried to get into bed.
hahahahahahahahaha Hmm
wimper wimper wimper scream.
back into bed with us.

tempted to take the pram upstairs - it seems to be the only place she'll sleep!

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 03/02/2012 12:24

Nickel that is exactly why I insisted we had a moses basket with a rocking stand this time around. Being able to lie in bed with one arm out rocking is a damn sight easier than standing by the bed, trying not to slide down the wall asleep as I jiggled the static stand for ages, with finger in DS's mouth is not great!

nickelhasababy · 03/02/2012 12:34
Grin i did suggest an automatic rocking stand. the stand we've got was only £3 from a charity shop.
cowboylover · 03/02/2012 23:18

Hello all!
Nice to read and catch up with everyone Smile

Been really busy, moved house and DD has changed so much 8.5 months already. Still breastfeeding and I didn't try her again with food after the initial constipation until 2 weeks ago and she now loves everything! Missed out purée mostly and straight onto finger food ect

I started back to work 3 days a week and she won't accept any milk from a bottle or cup so is just having yoghurt and food when I'm in work then catching up when I get home so still around 8 to 10 feeds a day but either spaced out or in a cluster.

We have very mixed results when trying to get her to bed, I'm sure they have a special radar that occasionally as soon as she is over the cot she wakes up!

nickelhasababy · 04/02/2012 14:07

Hi cowboy
I went to Mothercare last night, and on the offchance looked at their nappies - their "nappy system" was in the sale, and I got 2 outers, 3 reusabel pads and 1 disposable pad for about a fiver (3 different packs)
they're not too bad, even though they don't mix with any of the other nappies we have, so I sent DH off at lunch time to get one of the "starter packs" with 4 complete nappies in (£11.99)
bargain.

nickelhasababy · 04/02/2012 14:12

they had small and large - small takes us up to 13lbs and the large does 19lbs upwards.
wonder if they're discontinuing the nappies or if they're just clearing out our shop?

CuriosityCola · 04/02/2012 21:15

Hey cowboylover, glad to hear things are going well. Are you still managing to get enough sleep with all the cluster feeding after work?

Well done on the nappy offer Nickel. I have heard tesco are doing bogof for totsbots nappies. It's only at certain stores though!

Ds had first swimming class today. He wasn't convinced about how fun it could be, but not bad for first time. Smile

Eskarina · 04/02/2012 21:55

Hey cowboy, nice to hear from you.

I saw over on the nappy boards that tesco are doing ridiculously cheap bambino mio's too. I think I'd better not go and look. I don't need yet more nappies!

Dd has slept so much better for the last 2 nights, only waking twice, and I got away without feeding her the first time she woke. I can cope with feeding her once in the night. That's back to where we were mid-December. Perhaps this is the light at the end of the sleep-regression tunnel?

I had a fab time at a baby shower this afternoon. A local tea shop provided lunch. It was all kitsch with mismatching bone china with old-lady flowers on and dainty sandwiches, good cake and gallons of tea from a pretty teapot. DH managed to babysit for a whole 3 hours. I think he was quite proud of himself, although he was terrified before I went out!

CuriosityCola · 04/02/2012 22:06

Esk, that is my idea of heaven. Cake with endless cups of tea and good company....love it! Envy

CuriosityCola · 05/02/2012 07:18

Ds has been awake since 5am after feeding hourly through the night . Managed to get him back to sleep by feeding sitting up, but have had one failed attempt at putting him down. Really tired, but don't want to wake him.

nickelhasababy · 05/02/2012 18:19

just put dd on for a feed.
she did this:
ahahahahahahahahah like she does (which i think means "ooh food is coming")
then
amanananumanaamaa (like the funny fake bear growl adults do before eating yummy food)
then back to
ahahahahahahahahaha
Grin

nickelhasababy · 05/02/2012 18:20

oh, and i've got swollen tonsils so i feel crap.

CuriosityCola · 05/02/2012 19:19

Hope you feel better quickly Nickel. The feeding noises are super cute. Ds appears to have whole conversations with my boob (just the left one).

I have had a weird day. Was meant to be quality time with dh and ds. Dh was out all day yesterday and hungover this morning (slept on couch). I let him have a nice lie in even though I was up at 5am. Had visions of a chilled pj day. Then his parents decided they were visiting and came around for three hours. Ended up taking ds for a walk to get him to have an afternoon nap, so no rest for the wicked!

takethatlady · 05/02/2012 22:15

Hey ladies. I hate myself for being such an idiot and only posting once in a while, as this is my favourite thread of all time. Have been really rubbish with MN. Christmas too over, and then going back to work.

How is everyone? nickel - wahoo!!! The last time I was on here we were all keeping an eye on your birth thread! What is your DD's name? How old is she? How was the birth? How is it going?!

cc how is it being back to work? I have been back three weeks. I do Mon, Weds, Fri and work all day on Sunday at home, and I also do evenings at home as I am full time. Isobel won't take a bottle either - we commute together 60 miles to work and she goes to a nursery on campus. I go and feed her at just gone 11 or 12 (depending on my schedule) and then again at 3.30. I'm not sure it's the best thing as it sometimes upsets or unsettles her when I get there and then leave again, but she's not really interested in food at nursery. She got a tooth last week and a tooth the week before, and she's had a DV bug and two colds since she's been there! The first week was fucking rubbish and I hated it, and she hated nursery, but she's settling well now and apart from the stupid commute I think we've potentially got a good balance going. Isobel cluster feeds in the evening to catch up and since 4 months she has only had one night where she hasn't woken up at least every two hours after midnight (and a lot of hourly waking nights, and one hellish week of every 20-30 minutes!). We don't do anything about it as I have decide that fretting about it makes it worse, so we just plod along. It's sort of nice getting midnight cuddles, but by 4am it's sometimes a bit much!

How are you all - esk, val, bb, frak? Does bb still post? She didn't when I was on here a while back. Who else am I missing?

Isobel is 7 months now :) She babbles, giggles, and has been up rocking on all fours and doing downward dogs for about six weeks, but hasn't figured out how to move her arms to crawl properly so she just crawls backwards and rolls about the place. Nursery tell me she's very intelligent, but I think that basically means she won't do what she's told, ha ha. We're still doing swimming, coffee with our antenatal group, baby music and Buggyfit on my days off. DH is being a star, but I am knackered, and have no voice, and am scared of driving from Cambridge to Norwich tomorrow on an ice sheet!

takethatlady · 05/02/2012 22:15

Christmas took over.

Eskarina · 06/02/2012 10:47

Hey ttl, lovely to hear from you. Hope you had a safe journey to work today.

This is poo, I now seem to have mastitis in my right boob. I gave the breast pump back to its owner yesterday so I can't use that to express. Dd thinks its wonderful that she is getting fed so often, though latching her on is starting to hurt. Can't believe we have had 5.5 months of problem free feeding then get this.

nickelhasababy · 06/02/2012 10:59

60 miles ? Shock
please tell me that's a typo!

Glad you can have her with you at work, though, that's great.
I'm at work, and very lucky that i can do what i want all day (oh the joys of being unpaid self-employed!) Grin

All the details of the birth are on the thread- linked to by DutchOma i think, who started the post-birth thread.
She's called Eleanor Katherine.

i think she's poorly too,- still all nasal. I'm concerned that she's got whatever my tonsils have prevented me from getting.
we're co-sleeping so i don't have to keep getting up in the night, i just pull her to my boob! Grin

nickelhasababy · 06/02/2012 11:00

oh #8esk* that's nasty.
can you hand express?
there's good video that shows you how, i can find it for you if you like...

nickelhasababy · 06/02/2012 11:01

here

Eskarina · 06/02/2012 19:59

Thanks Nickel, that's really helpful. I'd read about that but a video makes it so much clearer. I think it was just a blocked duct rather than mastitis as eventually the milk started to flow from the lower half of the breast and it does feel a lot better now, if still a bit sore. Dd has loved getting twice as many feeds as usual!

I also get adorable feeding noises, although dd's current means of showing appreciation or excitement for anything is to blow raspberries! ot the respect I feel my bosom deserves. She also has long chats with it, punctuated by adorable grins, usually just before she metes out some kind of abuse, mind!

Sorry about your lack of a chilled day CC. Hope you managed to get some rest today.

I stupidly opened my copy of Gina Ford today. Wow she's scary. Not even the Baby whisperer woman used so many should and musts. Having realised that according to her I have irrevocably mucked up the first 6 months, and therefore dd's entire life, I think I'd better just return it to the friend who lent it to me and give up as a failed parent. Wink

takethatlady · 06/02/2012 20:53

Glad to hear it's not mastitis esk :) Grin re: Gina Ford. I am also the worst parent in the world a la GF. No routine. Feeding on demand at 7 months. Including all the way through the night. But I have a giggly baby and I might be a voiceless wreck but GF can jog on Grin

nickel it wasn't a typo! 60 miles there, 60 miles back. Rubbish. DH has applied for a job near my work so we're hoping to move. Failing that I have an interview next month for a job in London, but I don't really think that's actually going to make anything better! Eleanor is a beautiful name :) Is she a treasure? How old is she now? Do you take her with you to the shop? I remember you friend was going to fill in for you while you were off - did she do a good job?

xxx

vallinnapod · 06/02/2012 21:11

Hey ladies - night 2 of sort of controlled crying here :( DH currently comforting DS. We are doing two 5 mins sessions each. Last night it lasted from 8pm-midnight. By which time I could feed him, so of course he settled...he then woke at 2am, 4am, 6am, 8am and then I had to wake him at 10:30...not much fun. Not sure what to do. Cowboy my DS definitely has that 'over the bed' radar!

On the positive side weaning is going really well. Even the spinach today which I nearly vommed at Wink That first weaning nappy though....OMG. There is something to be said for perhaps breast feeding until they can wipe their own arses Wink

Hope you are feeling better Nickel being poorly with a baby is no fun.

Your baby shower sounded lovely Esk. I am so sorry about the dreaded mastitis/blocked duct. I felt really hard done by too as we had 4.5 blissful months.

Baby books are bad Grin I read the Baby Whisperer when DS was about 3 months old I decided I had clearly left it all too late and fucked it all up! Have tried not to read to much since.
