So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

nickelhasababy · 18/01/2012 11:23

mm, thanks.
there seem to be quite a lot of negative comments about the BBs.
/i could always sew on a waist strap.

OhFraktiousTree · 18/01/2012 11:40

For the love of your back and DDs hips don't use a BB - a proper carrier or wrap will distribute the weight evenly for both of you.

I second the Moby recommendation, or a Kari-Me is a similar style. Otherwise a mei tei like the Babyhawk or a soft structured carrier like a papatum or Manduca if you want buckles.

nickelhasababy · 18/01/2012 11:50

i'm not using a bb! it was just the shape of this one is similar.
I'll get DH to model it later and upload a pic so you can see. :)

nickelhasababy · 18/01/2012 11:52

don't get the hip thing though - is it the placement?

OhFraktiousTree · 18/01/2012 12:09

A proper carrier will spread the weight knee to knee. The narrowness of the bit at the bottom of the BB and other similar carriers means all the weight is on the crotch which strains the muscles on the outside and means the hip isn't deeply in the socket where it needs to be to continue to develop properly. She should be in a froggy position.

nickelhasababy · 18/01/2012 12:15

ah, i see.
I did think the legs in the picture were hanging down.
This one has a wide bottom bit.

vallinnapod · 18/01/2012 21:08

We survived!! Still no poo though, poor DS. Any tips? Tummy massage, bum massage, leg cycling and me eating lots of poo inducing foods have not worked (well, not for DS Blush)

DS not loving the heat much. Initially scared by the sea but within seconds found it fascinating! His highlight so far has been the supermarket (think it was the air con and attention!)

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 18/01/2012 21:09

I have it on good authority that good slings are addictive. I can believe it, just don't have the start up funds (yet)

nickelhasababy · 19/01/2012 10:48

have you been drinking loads of water?
That should help a bit.

Totally forgot to get DH to model the sling!

My priority for money is a feeding bra - all the ones I was given are slightly too big/no elastic round the back, which means that not only do i spend all day hoicking them down, but I have to adjust what's left on me when I'm feeding, which DD doesn't like at all

nickelhasababy · 19/01/2012 10:52

We went to bed last night jut after 8o'clock - well, we started to!
When I say "we" I mean me and DD - DH was at a committee meeting for his organ club, and said something about going to bed when I wanted because he would probably be late back.
After eating all the ice cream (big tip - if you're feeding, don't ask for the 4/5ths-full tub of ice cream, because you will have to eat it all because you can't get up to put it back in the freezer Blush), I changed DD into pyjamas, and we went to bed.
We had a very snuggly evening - even though we couldn't watch the film we were watching downstairs because we didn't have the right channel on the telly upstairs. - We watched OBEM, (i sobbed at the little babies), and then Bridget Jones until we fell asleep together. Lots of cluster-feeding, and I swear she was feeding almost constantly all through the night as well.
But I think we woke up this morning all contented. Grin

vallinnapod · 19/01/2012 12:00

Congrats on getting to bed so early. In the first few weeks with DS we used to aim for 8 and never made it before 11. I have no idea how it ever use to get so late. He was such a good baby it's not like we spent hours having to settle him, most of the time he was asleep on us. I remember it getting to about 9pm most days before we thought to have dinner. Time flies when you are staring at the gorgeousness you have!

On the iPhone and can't remember if I had said in my previous posts but we have co-slept the past 2 nights and my god what a difference. I am awake because of the time difference but DS has been sleeping fantastically. He has had 2 pre-bed time over tired meltdowns though! My poor Dad's face!! I think he thought all night would be like that.

Any thoughts on giving DS lactulose? Done the general googling of it and am tempted too unless any horror stories in practice?

nickelhasababy · 19/01/2012 12:49

I'm glad we did - we're normally sitting around with DD eating when DH has gone to bed!
This is what happens when normal adult bedtime is 10:30. DD doesn't know the time, and so she wants to eat at about ¼ past 10. And it takes more than an hour, so I sit there in the semi-dark with the telly on, while DH is snuggly in bed.

nickelhasababy · 19/01/2012 12:50

I don't see the point in giving lactulose - milk (or both breast and formula variety) has it anyway, so I don't see how more can make a difference.
Confused
(i know nothing about it though)

CuriosityCola · 19/01/2012 13:03

Val, I would phone your health visitor or get your husband to. Ds was a nightmare when he didn't poi for three days, but then had the mother of all poo explosions and was fine. No rhyme or reason, so can't offer any advice I'm afraid.

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 19/01/2012 15:11

Val breastfed babies don't always poo everyday. DS once didn't poo for three weeks, followed by 2 weeks. Even with solids now, DD still doesn't always poo every day (she used to go 5 then 2, 5 then 2 like clockwork before solids).

glad your enjoying your holiday though. It's trying to snow on the hills here, so okay yes I'm a little jealous Wink

Eskarina · 19/01/2012 18:21

Dd has had lactulose. Just a really tiny amount. It took a day or two to work though. The "result" was rather spectacular, and of course she waited until we were on a 3 hour journey down the M4 before producing it!

vallinnapod · 20/01/2012 03:37

I know BF babies don't go everyday. In fact DS only normally goes once a week or so. He hasn't pooed for over a fortnight now and it has coincided with the introduction of formula which I think is the issue. Just his little tummy adjusting to the change...or not! Gave him 2.5mls of lactulose as per the pharmacist's instructions. Poor thing is clearly in some pain, especially after he just wakes up Sad Wondering when the pooplosion will occur...a 13 hour flight didn't induce it and neither did swimming in the buff yesterday...I reckon a proper leaky one as he is snuggled next to me in bed, that I won't notice until morning - one that will be really hard to explain to house keeping Wink

vallinnapod · 20/01/2012 03:39

Was meant to add Nickel I don't understand lactulose either. Thanks to the progesterone I was one for the IVF I had horrible constipation for the first trimester and the only thing recommended it lactulose. Made no difference whatsoever, in fact gave me really bad trapped wind instead!

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 20/01/2012 10:25

Ah. There is a magic formula of water and sugar i was given when DS was nearing the 3 week mark which I reckon is what finally made him go. it was something to the effect of 1 teaspoon brown sugar dissolved in 80mls of water, then give 20 mls. Alternatively you could try a aplle juice diluted in water and give him 20ml or so of that. I know he's a bit young for weaning, but such a small amount won't harm him and hopefully you should only need one dose.

nickelhasababy · 20/01/2012 10:31

Shock and GrinGrin Esk

nickelhasababy · 20/01/2012 10:32

yeah, that does sound like his tummy getting used to the change.
If it helps, I had terrible constipation when I was a child.
(that probably doesn't help at all! Blush )

vallinnapod · 20/01/2012 21:42

LOL nickel Grin

One nappy full of poo this morning! I don't think anywhere near enough but it's a start [smle]

nickelhasababy · 21/01/2012 12:27
Grin woohoo to pooey nappy! Grin
FeijoaVodkaPlease · 23/01/2012 10:41

You know, for someone who isn't co-sleeping, my DD spends a lot of time sleeping in my bed these days Grin

Good news on the poo front Val

nickelhasababy · 23/01/2012 13:03

Okay, so how did this happen?! Shock

3 days ago, DD was just a tiny little baby that slept, cried for food, had a nappy changed.
was quite happy in the pram in the shop sleeping or whatever when she wasn't being fed.
Then suddenly on Saturday, she had such a disturbing day - slept for a period in the morning, but I couldn't get her to settle for the rest of the day, and she wasn't happy whatever I did.
Started to read a baby book on saturday evening.
Turns out she was bored
So now she needs entertaining constantly.
Forever and ever and ever!
I thought that they didn't need entertaining for at least 3 months! ShockBlush

How on earth do you entertain a baby that can't do anything? Confused
