Hello!

Sorry I can't make the meet-up but CONGRATULATIONS MrsY!

I am 25 weeks tomorrow- can you believe it? Where has the time gone?! DS is being a little trying but is poorly with a cold today so hopefully that will slow him down a bit..

SummerRain · 17/09/2011 11:18

Have fun tonight ladies, wish could be there!

mumofsoontobelawstudent · 17/09/2011 13:20

wish you were coming too SR, maybe next time?
dinky and everyone else going tonight, if you read this, would anyone mind if DD1 came too? She is almost an adult and used to me swearing and cursing so wouldn't cramp anyones style! Hadn't realised she was home from boarding school this weekend and don't think she likes the thought of staying at home with grumpy arse (DH/FW) this evening?

Calico1 · 17/09/2011 17:26

Great news MrsY!!!!! So pleased for you x

Hope you all have a good meet up tonight.

SM - sorry to hear about your friend's dad. I'm sure she will value your support on the day.

MOS - I'd hold out for someone who wants it furnished - agents will always do the easiest option for them rather than what is best for you, so unless they are prepared to offer you an extra amount on top of the rental cost then I wouldn't consider it. Make the agents earn their fee and find you suitable tenants!

Not much news here - child free today as DH has taken kids to PIL's house. They went last night and I was looking forward to an uninterrupted night's sleep...but was woken at 3am to a noise in the lounge. Thought it was the cat until I realised that she was sitting on the end of the bed....I thought I could hear someone moving about and after about 10 minutes of panicking I decided to go and investigate.....to find a bat flying around the room. It had come down the fireplace. Took me ages to get it out, damn thing was so fast!

SummerRain · 17/09/2011 19:45

Mrsy..... I didn't even read before posting this morning so missed your brilliant news.... Congratulations!!! Grin When are you due?

mos.... if I have the money I'd definitely come over for a meetup at some point. In fact, it's miles off yet but in the first part of 2013 I'll be doing residential schools with the OU so will be over to England twice and it wouldn't make much differance to me to tag a day on at the beginning or end and pop to london to see a few of ye.

mumofsoontobelawstudent · 18/09/2011 08:41

mrsY congratulations, didn't notice you sneaking in your news casually yesterday Grin

SR that would be good, will be lovely to finally meet up

Lovely night last night and thanks for being ok with DD1 tagging along, she had a nice night although was rather tired when we got home around midnight and don't imagine I'll see her until lunchtime or early pm when I take her back to boarding school.

dinkystinky · 18/09/2011 20:17

Lovely to see STOL, MOS and DD1 and STW last night - hope you all got home ok. Would be nice t see you SR when you're over Grin

Did I kill the thread?

Danny is now in a cot bed with no sides on it - last night he decided to go prowling around in his grobag after being put to bed. Thank god I caught him before he started trying to get down the stairs and gave him a sound telling off about how dangerous it was (lots of "orry mummy" from the offender). Never had to put a stairgate on DS1's door so not too sure what to do about Danny. Any suggestions?

Dinky Lilian did the same night-time walks in her Grobag - had to ditch the sleeping bag in the end as she was found teetering at the top of the stairs a couple of times. I shut the door of her room now and it has a high up latch that she can't reach so she just knocks on the door 3 or 4 times an evening now....sigh. Stairgate across the door would work..

I am officially a bad mummy. I totally forgot about DS's first 'sharing assembly' at school where parents are invited to hear what their little ones have been up to. I was pithering around the house and wondering why the other mums were going to pick up from school early yesterday.....my absence was made worse by the fact that DS won a 'golden wow' for working so well in the last couple of weeks. He was given a tiny prize and I wasn't there to clap him Sad. I don't think he realised I wasn't there as apparently it was quite crowded but all the other mums were there so I did feel awful.

dinkystinky · 22/09/2011 10:15

Hmm, I think you're right Calico. May be time to ditch the gro bag - but he loves them so! He also spends most of this night flipping from one side of his bed to the other so god only knows what kind of a mess he'd get into with a duvet...

Dont beat yourself up about missing DS's assembly - I've done that too (especially where the school hasnt been too great about communicating about assemblies) and these things happen. Its good that he wasnt upset about it and great that he got a golden wow!

Calico.... it could be worse. I had to put reminders on my phone to pick my children up from school as I forgot about them until 5 mins after they were let out on so many occasions. I was late picking dd up from her trial day at school fgs Blush and once got distracted cleaning and forgot she was at playschool Blush

oooggs · 22/09/2011 17:19

Luke isn't ready to let his grobag or cot go get!!!!!

SilveryMoon · 22/09/2011 19:23

Hi all
Dinky Glad to hear Danny wasn't hurt during his latest antics Grin.
We don't have stairs so not really an issue for us. Luke has been in a proper bed for a long time now and luckily we haven't had any issues.
SR That is just too funny! Late to pick dd up from her trial day! What are you like? lol

All's fine here. Work is going well and I'm enjoying it.
Jacob seems to be enjoying school and Luke loves nursery. The staff have told me he is so good, but at home he has hit a new high with the tantrums Sad is driving me mad and some days I dread coming home Sad Sad

I have my friend's dad's funeral tomorrow, so that will no doubt be emotional and then a busy saturday with 2 birthday parties to attend. One in Fulham, the other in Uxbridge. Mum's having the boys overnightt, so I plan to get trollied at evening party.

Calico1 · 22/09/2011 20:09

SR I have done that too Blush though not on a trial day! Thankfully I live next to the school and the hubbub of mums arriving reminds me to pick up DS but I did forget to pick up Lilian from nursery once....they were not too pleased, neither was she......

SM big hugs for tomorrow - hope all goes as well as it can.

Dinky Lilian loved her sleeping bag too but the transition to a duvet was fine. I do have to go in once she is fast asleep to put it back over her as she flings it off the bed before she nods off.

SummerRain · 23/09/2011 10:00

SM... hope all goes as well as can be expected today {{Hugs}}

None of mine were ever very successful with grobags....they all move way too much at night and the grobags had to be ditched as soon as they learned to roll! A loves his big bed with his duvet and actually seems to be a bit better at night now that he's moved out of the cot.

Calico... I live across the road to the school too Blush

dinkystinky · 23/09/2011 11:03

SM - sending you and your friends hugs and strength to get through today. Enjoy your saturday night off!

Morning.
Thanks all for your kind wishes for yesterday. It was beautifully horrific iykwim.
The service was lovely, perfect. You couldn't ask for a nicer one.
The songs that were played were fab. The Lost Opera and Pet Shop Boys - Go West.
My friend got up and made a speech which was very nice, she made everyone laugh with her story from childhood about her dad.
She obviously completely broke down a few times and it was awful to see her in that much pain and be powerless to help her.

In other news........
I am very annoyed that Jacob has been having homework every night for the past 2 weeks, and on monday I will be calling the school to enquire if they have a homework policy and then making a complaint about it.
He's 4 ffs, no way should he be having homework every night.

Have a busy day today, friend's dd's birthday picnic this afternoon and then a grown up party this evening.
Felling a little worse for wear today after my drinking session with friend's brother.

Hope everyone is ok and you all have a fab weekend xxx

SummerRain · 24/09/2011 11:29

SM.... what sort of homework does he get? mine got homework every night except Fridays from junior infants, usually just a page of a workbook and later in the year a page of a reader/words to learn plus extra readers.

I've never minded too much, it's nothing really compared to what they get later on... the senior room apparently have 2 hours or more a night to do... now that I'd complain about!

SilveryMoon · 24/09/2011 12:11

SR- yes it is a workbook sheet, usually practising writing 1 letter.
It is an awful lot though, I'm really very unhappy about it.

MrsY · 24/09/2011 13:36

Hi all :)

Glad you had a nice time the other night, sorry I missed it. Thanks for all the congrats - I'm due early April, just had my booking in appointment and should be going for my scan some time in the next week or so. Already had two scans due to bleeding, so at least I know there is a baby in there and it's not all in my head! What with morning sickness and all this bleeding, this pregnancy seems to be about as smooth and easy as my first! Just hoping I avoid the pre-eclampsia this time.

SM Sorry to hear about your friend's dad, glad the funeral went well. Re: the homework, every night sounds bad, but it doesn't sound like much at a time - however, if it's concerning you, talk to his teacher, and maybe some other parents?

Re: grow-bags and cots etc, M has been under her duvet for a year or so now, and is fine with duvet and pillow, although we put her in trousers with feet or a pair of socks when it feels cold (most nights now!). We need to sort out taking the sides off, as we need it in the nursery and I'll struggle with lifting her soon, but I'm just too chicken! I like my sleep to much for it to be disturbed by a small child crashing on the floor or climbing into bed with me!

Any ideas on what to get a nearly 3 year old for Christmas? There's nothing really obvious that's jumped out at me, but I haven't had a thorough look so far, so would appreciate any ideas...

dinkystinky · 24/09/2011 14:45

At my sister's wedding in Sheffield (the hindu one this time round) this weekend and Danny is in a big bed under a duvet and snoring away during nap time now and loving it so duvets and pillows it is now in the dinky household!

SM - glad the funeral went smoothly. Sorry to hear J is getting so much homework - DS1 got none in nursery or reception (only a reading book once a fortnight) and none so far in year 1. Though I do read with him 3 times a week and try to do some maths or writing at the weekends. Every night seems abit hard core though.

MrsY - DS1 was an april baby. Much nicer time of year to have a baby than Feb! DS1 got a garage and cars for his christmas aged 3 which both he and Danny still play with.

A is getting a wooden pirate boat, aeroplane loads of toy food for the kitchen and shop (how cute are these eggs!) and maybe some playmobil if I can stretch the money to it. Oh, and he's just reminded me by wandering in with the Smyths catalogue... a tin tea set.

I have most of his shopping done, and a few bits for dd. Poor ds1 I haven't got anything for yet but that's partly as he wants a bike (bulky) and DS games (cheaper if I wait).

SilveryMoon · 25/09/2011 08:26

Oh God. Christmas. Can't believe it's getting to that time again.
I haven't a clue what to get either of mine.

oooggs · 25/09/2011 10:44

dts are getting homework in reception 4 nights a week. Consisting of a letter to sound, write & practise. Hard work doing it with 2 who are totally different so I can't do them together.

DS1 is in year 3 and his homework this weekend was really difficult!!!! By year 6 it is going to be impossible for me Wink

CHRISTMAS!!!!!! We are leaving the country so Santa will have a job finding us WinkGrin
