Here we are, our new thread and this time we all have our babies !

I thought we were getting thrush again, but then realised I had let ds's latch get sloppy. He was constantly clicking and tutting at the breast but I was too distracted to notice.

Ds and I made butterfly cakes together this morning, ds got to choose the colour of the buttercream icing ..... It is a very lurid shade of pink and they are covered in sugar strands. You can never have enough sugar!

negative man-points for your DH Frak, glad you got some more sleep.

I was expecting to be woken at 4 and 6 too, hence the excitement earlier! I don't think it'll happen that way again tho.

You're not still working are you?

JenAT · 07/06/2011 09:56

Like the new thread title Grin and also the new name Frak
I think it describes G pretty well, Fractious he certainly is.

Jo lovely to hear Connor is doing so well and you are getting lots of smiles. Also good to hear about him sleeping so well, I am v Envy of the fact he also sleeps during the day.

G will only sleep during day if out and about. If we are in the house he can literally be awake from 6 am till 10pm with the odd 20min power nap thrown in. I just don't know how he does it. He is currently grizzling in his cot under the mobile. We were out all day yday as DH had a days holiday from work, and we had a fantastic time visiting a farm park. Dd ran around like a mad thing throwing herself down slides and jumping on inflatables, we also had tea at a pub and didn't get home till 8 oclock. G was great he just fed, and lay in pram looking at clouds, or being cuddled. He seems to thrive on noise and movement! I think dd got a bit overtired as she didn't fall asleep till about 9:30 then woke 3 times in the night crying. I have had about 4 hrs broken sleep and G slept really well, weep!

Not even thought about persisting with tummy time yet. If I try and turn him over onto his front he just squirms and lifts his head for the odd few seconds before getting v cross and screaming.

Waiting for visit from health visitor when I think G will be weighed, then this afternoon got my first postnatal yoga session. Hopefully G will enjoy it and sleep afterwards (probably wishful thinking!)

caramellokoalalover · 07/06/2011 09:57

Inspired by your baking yesterday ILTMIMI, I just made flapjacks with DS. I'm not sure how long I have to keep up the no sugar diet post-thrush. Scared to go back to the amount of sugar I was eating before, but I figure a flapjack can't hurt!

Ali - teething [shocked]. Please not yet!

Amazing night here last night, down by 8pm, fed at 2am then back to sleep till 7am, 45mins awake then down again and just stirring now. Same again tonight please!

Frak throw that alarm out the window. Boo.

Cyclebump · 07/06/2011 10:05

Oh Frak, how is he still alive!

We had 10.45-4.15! Then 5-7.45, am in happy shock!

He's just woken from a 40-minute nap straining for that first poo of the day though, sigh.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 07/06/2011 10:29

Morning :)

I think there must be something in the air. Midnight-7am, and then 8am-still sleeping. I feel human Grin

T is definitely teething. We gave him 2.5mls of Calpol last night and he calmed right down within 10 minutes and then slept for that lovely 7 hours! He is shoving his fist into his mouth constantly and the amount of drool is unbelievable!
I reckon about 2 weeks until he cuts one, so cue a few days uncomfortable feeding!

Jen you must be exhausted. We had a few nights last week where DS1 woke as well - it was like a relay. I hope you get some rest today.

Jo - so lovely to hear that C is smiling :) 10 weeks is a long time to get nothing back, it must be amazing to see him smile Grin

Right need to go and wake T for a feed because we are going out, and my right boob is going to explode!

chillikat · 07/06/2011 11:48

We also seem to be getting regular 6hour stretches of sleep :)

She's currently sat in the bouncy chair and has been yawning, but she's also giving me beautiful smiles making it really hard to ignore her enough so she drops off.

JoEW · 07/06/2011 13:18

Hmm, spoke too soon and C woke at midnight and half four - still did 7pm to midnight, so a five hour stint. He's usually pretty good when he goes down around 7pm but I am always awake enjoying the peace of the evening and a nice glass of vino.

On the subject of daytime naps I put him down at 11am today in his moses basket and raced around the house trying to clean it as my parents are coming on Thurs. I could hear him chuntering but not crying so left him to it. 45 mins later he's still going so I popped up to check on him. Vomit in his hair and a dirty nappy. POOR CONOR! I felt so awful. He's now clean, changed and napping in the vibrating chair (or the magic chair as I like to call it) in front of Loose Women.

Petal we also get that scream. C goes purple with rage. It's quite worrying. He also now has the Don't-get-me-out-of-the-bath-I-love-the-bath-put-me-back-in-it-RIGHT-NOW scream.

LisMcA · 07/06/2011 13:39

Oh what a time we are having here! FIL has had a heart attack so we've made the dash up the road again. Things aren't looking good as his liver and kidneys have now been damaged. :(

Then last night after his last feed I noticed Bs tongue was totally white. Queue emergency appointment with a GP here. So I have been given Fluconazole and B has Nystatin for thrush. In keeping wietht he thread title! ARRRRRGHHHHHHHH

Anyone with experieince of this and has any tips please? I will iron my bras :o

Sorry for not name chacking, wil get time later on to read everything

Cyclebump · 07/06/2011 15:29

Lis, I hope you're ok and that your FIL is comfortable.

Jo, we too get the but-I-love-the-bath scream. Bless him, he loves it! Plus H is sick continually and it never bothers him so I'm sure Conor will forgive you, H is always bring sick on himself in the night while I sleep on unaware.

I think we may be teething too Ali, again, the fist chewing, lots of drool and whinging. I thought I was being stupid as he's only nine weeks but my mum agreed when we were in France. A toothypeg is definitely on the move up top! My first two teeth were my upper canines so who knows?

kittycatcat · 07/06/2011 15:58

frak Grrr at your dh

petal/Jo that's what I love about the April family. S also poo screams and I was worried as he goes into a red hot rage. It's reassuring to hear ts normal.

Jen how did it go with the hv? S was weighed today. He's now 9.15 at almost 4 weeks, from8.6 birth weight.

lissorry about your fil. Thinking of you and your family.

LisMcA · 07/06/2011 15:59

Can anyone tell me how you put liquid in a babies mouth and keep it there for 2 minutes before he swallows it? [impossible emoticon]

kittycatcat · 07/06/2011 16:06

Eek good luck with that lis hmm. No idea.

Hv said s is on 75th percentile which I don't understand. When I told her that she said I don't really need to!?

ecuse · 07/06/2011 16:58

Lis I am having the same problem with Nystatin drops. It is impossible. We try to use the dropper to sort of spread it over Jo's tongue. She certainly doesn't hold it in her mouth, but she does smack her lips for 20 seconds or so - that'll have to do! Lucky you getting Flucanozole - my GP refused to prescribe, saying it's contra-indicated for breastfeeding women so I'm just on Daktarin cream, which is doing diddly squat after 10 days. Going back tomorrow to see a different GP in the same practice, going to try being more forceful.

We did our first trip away over the weekend - 2 days in Wales with DP's parents then 2 days with mine. She had so much love and attention over the long weekend she was quite inconsolable yesterday with just me and her Dad to entertain her. It was lovely to see her with her grandparents though - they're all absolutely besotted with her, and it was nice for us to have our hands to ourselves for a while as they were giving her cuddles. Managed the longest shower I've had since she's been born!

Baby clinic this morning - she's put on a pound and a half in two weeks on the formula top ups so I suppose I should be grateful to them - still hoping to get back onto exclusive breastfeeding eventually but it seems more and more unlikely now. Also, she had her BCG jab this morning, which is making her fractious this afternoon.

Anyone know how much Calpol is OK for a 6-week old who weighs 8lbs4oz? The box says suitable from 2 months, but the health visitor recommended it to take the edge of the side-effects of the jab and the pharmacist recommended just 'taking less' than the recommended dose, but didn't say how much.

chillikat · 07/06/2011 16:59

I've had a very snoozy baby this afternoon, though the only way I've found to get her to sleep is to leave her on our bed after a feed. Luckily no nappy leakages :)
M also likes a bath - when in the mood - but she really likes having her hair washed. After the bath she gets a massage from DH who has done all the baths initially due to me not wanting to kneel down after c-section. All she needs is a manicure and pedicure for the full spa treatment. If she gets used to all this she'll cost a fortune in beauty regimes in the future :o

Lis, hope your family is OK. No idea about liquids, it really does sound like an impossible challenge. Maybe another event to add to the Baby Olympics :)

ecuse · 07/06/2011 17:00

kitty - it means 74% of baby boys are smaller than S at his age, and 25% are bigger

JoEW · 07/06/2011 20:14

ecuse do about 2.5mls. That was what C had and I checked as he's small.

Also with the Nystatin just get some in their mouths, you don't have to worry about exact amounts or for how long. C had it in hospital (impressive as I was only expressing!) and that's what the neo-natal nurses said, they know EVERYTHING.

kitstwins · 07/06/2011 20:49

Sassy you can buy this brilliant stuff called Jelonet from pharmacies which is amazing for repairing ravaged nipples. I used it after an ill -fitting nipple shield rubbed mine raw . It's used to treat burns and is a sort of fine mesh webbing impregnated with a thick gel (like Lansinoh). They use it to treat burns and I was given some by a NICU midwife so sort out a scab from a poor latch when we were in hospital. Just buy a sheet or two and cut it into small strips and change it after each feed.

Lisa I used a dropper to put the Nystatin in and then would just rub it around his mouth with a clean finger (make sure your nails are short - I had to chop mine). I didn't manage to cover all of his mouth but it helps to try and get it around his gums, etc. I think as long as it gets in there it's okay. I was told to ignore the 'four times a day' advice and apply it after every feed.

Am seeing my consultant tomorrow for my 6 week check (I'm actually 8 weeks but he's been away). Hopefully I'll get signed off. I'm going to start running again in three weeks and I CAN'T WAIT although it's going to bloody hurt. I still remember the first run after I had the girls; four miles of pure agony.

So, this breastfeeding 'eat what you like' thing is a myth, right? I have been eating astounding levels of cake and it's just dawning on me that maybe I'm not supposed to...

chillikat · 07/06/2011 21:43

M is being a Daddy's girl tonight and cries when I hold her :( I'm not sure she;s fed much today so I keep offering but she might have few sucks then break off crying. After all the talk on here I'm looking for signs of Thrush but can't see any white so maybe she's just not hungry. After all, she can go for hours at night without feeding so maybe she's doing longer stretches during the day too.

I too have been eating far too much in the way of cake, and biscuits and bread products. And not getting out and about enough to work it off Blush

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 07/06/2011 21:44

I have been eating A LOT kits, I never ate this much when feeding before. But then again I am feeding a lot. I don't eat much in the day, but in the evenings I am ravenous. My fruit and veg count is not what it should be either. only the other day I was thinking I must sort my diet out before I start putting weight on.

Right I'm off to bed, I'm knackered.

Sassy20 · 07/06/2011 22:47

Kits thanks for the advice, will give that a try. I am so fed up today. Went to breastfeeding cafe and saw student hv about my breastfeeding issues. She was really nice but informed me that using nipple shields for too long will affect my supply and that as L gets older she won't get amount of milk she needs. Why didn't my regular hv tell me this?! If she had I wouldn't have used them for this long. I've tried without today but poor L is confused and starts crying which then results in me crying too feeling like a total failure and like I've let her down!

Petalouda · 08/06/2011 08:19

Morning. We have a very grumpy little man today. He woke up at 5:30 screaming (high pitched). I fed him, he slept on me for another hour and suddenly started screaming again.

He was lying there trumping loads, but not a smidge of pop when I changed him.

He's just had another little feed & more screaming. He still hasn't opened his eyes this morning, and has a pained expression even when he's asleep.

We're thinking it could be digestive discomfort (he's usually a 4-poos-a-day boy) or teeth (gum-lumps in lower canine region - I don't know if that's normal). We've given him some calpol.

If it's relevant, he'd wriggled up out from under his blankets twice in the night.

Any ideas? Teething? Or can we expect a poonami?

Petalouda · 08/06/2011 08:20

*poo, not pop. Flipping android.

Cyclebump · 08/06/2011 08:37

If he's anything like H it'll be a poonami Petal.

I'd keep trying with the naked nipple Sassy, H always gets a bit funny with change, for example if the boob is rock hard, if I've used new shower gel and smell different, etc. Generally I let him snuffle around a bit and calm down before trying again. Good luck xx

caramellokoalalover · 08/06/2011 08:39

Lis hope the thrush is clearing a bit this morning. And for you too ecuse, can you take the BFN leaflet with you to the GP's? Hopefully you'll get a GP who'll prescribe you the fluconazole!
chilli lol at your beauty regime for M starting early Grin.
kits sadly the 'bfing makes you lose weight' saying was just that for me. Instead I retained loads of fat, especially on my arms and face. Nice. I didn't totally lose it all until I stopped breastfeeding when DS was 12mths old. Mind you, I wasn't running so maybe that was the problem!
Petal hopefully the poo is not far off as that's how S gets before a big poo. She's always mega grumpy beforehand and we get lots of smiles afterwards. When are they going to get used to pooing I wonder?

Cyclebump · 08/06/2011 08:59

I'm actually a little relieved that it's not just H who struggles with pooing. He normally poos up to four times a day but didn't poo until about 8pm last night.

There was much red-faced straining and high pitched squeals until suddenly we heard him go. It didn't sound too serious though so I pulled back the side of the nappy to check. Big mistake. It blooped out and I caught it!

Poo all over my hand as I rushed him to the changing table and H looking immensely pleased with himself. Hmm
