July 2010: Drool it, maul it, crawl over it - that's how our threadbabes would eat a creme egg. But why the Creme Egg?!

Why is it bad that they drink out of a bottle? I stopped bf M a month ago and switched to a bottle for milk. I tried water with a cup but she would just spit it out, even though we tried for ages. Now I'm giving her water in a bottle and she drinks loads and I was so pleased that she likes water. All confused now that this is the wrong thing to do Confused

Sorry for aging A cake Grin but she is a whole day older than M who will be 10 months tomorrow. Does that make her the youngest on the thread?

MLIC and cake The dragon girl didn't seem the least bit bothered by the reaction she caused. She just laughed manically then raised her arms again. I'm not sure if it was the arms the set M off, maybe a combination of being tired, the girl coming very close and then the dramatic arms. I just found it remarkable that other children reacted like that too. One girl starts crying now as soon as she sees dragon girl.

Sorry about AFish chulita Sad

Everyone's excited about the footie tomorrow. A friend of ours is going to the game, DP is very nervous and excited about it. And said friend gave DP M a United strip so she'll have to wear that tomorrow, even though dressing children in footie strips makes both me and DP feel a bit queasy. Oh well, quick photo for friend will be enough. We're having some friends round to watch the game here. I like an exciting footie atmosphere.

chulita please could I have your sugar free baby biscuit recipe? Thank you!

Chulita · 27/05/2011 13:46

Sugar free biscuit recipe:

This is all approximate btw, you don't have to be exactly on.

60g wholemeal flour
60g plain flour (I sometimes use rice flour to make it more crumbly)
50g apple juice
20g sunflower oil
15g oats
10g currants
pinch of bicarb

Blitz in food processor, it'll end up looking like wet crumbs but should squish into a ball, if not add more juice. Either roll into small balls and squash onto a baking sheet or roll out and cut out with cutters. Bake at Gas 4 for about 10-15 mins til they look cooked.

I often add a bit of maple syrup because both DH and I like to eat them and find them deathly boring without it. I also usually blitz a bit of extra dried fruit in like apples and apricots and it doesn't affect the end result.

CakeandRoses · 27/05/2011 14:19

chul sorry you're not pg Sad

that looks like a great recipe, will deffo make it for A. F's like me and not fussed about biscuits - or fruit either weirdly. He takes after me and would happily exist on cake and veg!

yy, i wasn;t nagging much re the nappy, i thought you

i thought you meant it was a one-off but thought i'd put my oar in in case. F stills naps (and night time sleeps) in pull-ups as he still wakes up so wet that bright bots wouldn't hold it. he'll probably stop napping before he's ready to be dry.

glad you'll all good tsc despite the feeding mare again. the second sitting room sounds a great idea. we LOVE having a toy-free sitting room now it's all out in the playroom. best decision i ever made Smile

i think M is the youngest actually trudy. supposedly using the bottle too late/much can affect their mouth development/speech. i wouldn't worry too much right now, it is good she's having water. i'd just keep offering the cup too.

CakeandRoses · 27/05/2011 14:20

also sweet drink in bottles are the very devil himself very bad for teeth. water is obv fine that way.

kkfairybrains · 27/05/2011 14:24

Them biscuits look good chul must give them a try.
Think you're all right about persevering with the cup. She took a good lot just now about half the amount in the cup cos i was playing mammy have some ellie have some so it worked!
Trudy i don't think it's wrong but the guidelines here say to get them in to the cup at 12m but if you feel happy guvibg it to her in the bottle then its fine. Maybe at other times during the day let her hold the cup and put it to her mouth to start introducing it. She won't drink out of a bottle forever!
This child is obsessed by opening and closing doors!

kkfairybrains · 27/05/2011 14:26

Great minds!

memphis83 · 27/05/2011 15:45

L will have a botthe til around 18....years old, he rarely has water from a cup, He is only on 3 bottles all day now so im not fussed if he stuck with a bottle for milk.
What should I give L when he gets to a year? growing up milk or an alternative the hv is adamant he is going on cows milk but the smell of the fattyness of blue top milk makes me heave!
mil survived her day with L I did a bit of shopping and all of my ironing! now waiting for him to have a nap as he hasnt had one yet Shock eventhough he was shattered when they left then I can put clothes away and decide what im wearing tonight, Im so looking forward to it, im going to get very drunk I guess then Im staying at my mums saving £25 on a taxi!

Needle · 27/05/2011 16:20

Gwen has milk in bottles, water in a sippy cup, because I want her to differientiate between baby drinks and grown up drinks, if that makes sense.

I've just bought the hummingbird bakery cookbook. Its sooo nice!

memphis83 · 27/05/2011 16:53

needle thats what I want but L probably only drinks 1 ounce a week of water apart from the odd day where he may have 4 or 5. doesnt matter what sippy cups we have! he is just too lazy to suck

re the cup/bottle survey which has created itself: A has milk via bf and water in a freeflow tommee tippee. she's had diluted juice now and again but appears to prefer water at the mo.

3 weeks today! I sooo cant wait Grin

Hair trial went well, because my hair is shit fine Im going to have extensions to make the particular style look fuller and longer.

Chulita · 27/05/2011 19:13

1/2tsp yeast
300g strong white flour
1Tbsp olive oil
1tsp salt
170ml water
Make dough as normal. Roll and pat the dough into 30x25cm rectangle on a greased baking tray. Make indentations all over with fingertips. Add one of the following: 1 small red onion sliced and softened with 1tsp olive oil & 1tsp balsamic vinegar / 2 tbsp chopped black or green olives / 2 chopped cloves garlic, sea salt and cracked black pepper / 2 tbsp chopped sundried tomatoes
Allow to prove til doubled, drizzle with olive oil and back at gas mark 5 for 20-30 mins or until golden at the edges and cooked in the middle.

I've got a lovely ciabatta recipe but you have to make half one day and finish it the next - bloody fantastic but you need to plan in advance :)
Sorry you had a crap day

Chulita · 27/05/2011 19:15

dh very, very cool! I've always semi fancied extensions cos my hair is very fine and absolute crap. What kind of style have you decided on?

Chulita · 27/05/2011 19:17

My goodness cake "add one of the following toppings" and "bake" perhaps would be better.

Potty training sucks absolute balls, one in the potty, 3 on the floor and a HUGE poo in the bright bots. I would throw in the towel but they've all been used to mop up wee puddles and the carpet stinks like wee...never mind, new day tomorrow and we'll try again!

CakeandRoses · 27/05/2011 19:28

thanks so much chul

it's beaut stuff in the making isn't it? have freestyled with garlic, fresh basil and olive oil mortar and pestled together. LOVED putting the topping on Smile

so sorry that potty training is kicking your arse at the mo. i honestly found it the hardest part of parenting so far so you really have my sympathy. keep at it, it does get easier and it will be so worth it [pom pom emoticon]

OP posts:
Chulita · 27/05/2011 19:36

Yummers! That sounds amazing :) I was writing the toppings list down thinking [suck eggs emoticon] I like to rub a garlic clove over it and scatter olives, basil and sundried toms on it.

WhatSheSaid · 27/05/2011 19:36

Chul keep praising praising praising when she gets one in the potty, big cheers and dancing all round. Frequent reminders of treat status for successful wees worked round here too. Try to relax and not get stressed about accidents.

I didn't find it the hardest bit of parenting though. Being woken every half an hour since 3 this morning has fucked me right off though (extremely pissed off emoticon and apologies for the swearing)

Chulita · 27/05/2011 19:38

Oh, I didn't have to deal with the poo, I was feeding S before bed and heard DH running around saying 'where are you L?' and I thought 'she'll be behind the kitchen curtain doing a poo, please don't shout at her for doing it in her pants' and she was, and he didn't (lovely man :) )

CakeandRoses · 27/05/2011 19:46

arf at 'behind the kitchen curtain doing a poo in her pants' Grin. sorry!

great advice from wss re hyping up the praise. are you doing a sticker chart too? also worth mentioning their fave people and how proud they'll be and even calling them so they can praise them directly. my father memorably got a call from felix to say he'd pooed in the potty. my father was in a meeting and put in on loudspeaker so the whole room cheered Grin

sorry for your shit night wss. did i imagine you just apologising for swearing? have you forgotten which fucking thread you're on or summat or was it irony? Confused Grin

CakeandRoses · 27/05/2011 19:49
