Azure how mad must you have been with your DH! that sounds like a scene from a film, your dh is either a lightweight or getting in some sneaky kip on the pretence of a night out!

What do you all do when baby wakes way too early but roots for a feed? Noah went to sleep at seven and just woke up at 8:30 we could hear him crying and coughing on the monitor so i went up. He seemed asleep but was squirming and farting so i picked him up then he seemed hungry so i started to feed him but he quickly fell asleep. I tried to wake him slightly once he was back in the cot but he was having none of it! Similar thing happened at lunchtime, he woke up then when I took him downstairs and fed him he fell asleep. Am I headed for bad sleep associations?

josey · 20/11/2005 20:02

oh azure poor you did you dump the wet sheets etc on his head haha

pooky just sounds like a bit of comfort he wants and he will just smell milk from you so will think of feeding, thats what my HV told me and if baby was like that to hand to DH as they wont smell of milk and if there not really hurgry they will just drop off again

getting alot of dribbling and hand chewing here but no teething yet gums still soft no discomfort and no red cheeks

C&Cmommy how is your DH did he cope ok? i keep telling my DH he I have booked him in and he has told me there is no way, I can go and get (as he so nicely puts it) gutted!!!

had a lovely day today went to Falls of Shinn, lovely waterfalls and Harrods has a shop etc there, it as the switching on of the lights by Al Fyed (is that how you spell it)and they put off thousands of pounds of Fireworks they were out of this world and as they were in the woods the noise was unreal, car alarms were set off by them, DS and DD also met santa so we are all in the xmas spirit now

wilbur · 20/11/2005 20:17

That sounds like a lovely day josey. I don't seem to be able to get organised for days out at the mo - there's so much we're trying to get done in the house the poor kids get a bit neglected. Dh did take them swimming this morning though. Ds2 seems to be going through a growth spurt as he's a starvin marvin these last couple of days. It's amazing how him spending a bit more time on the breast results in extra milk so quickly, my poor old boobs are a bit put out! Hopefully he'll settle again soon. He's still in his moses basket but I've set up his cot in his room as really he's too big to be in the basket, I just keep wedging him in there. I think I'm just reluctant to take him out of the basket because that means he's growing up - I'm having all sorts of "last baby" thoughts that make me feel pathetically sad. How did this happen? I used to be indifferent to children and babies esp. and now I'm the mad lady who coos over random newborns at the supermarket.

Azure · 20/11/2005 20:44

What a nice day Josey. We went to Hamleys last Saturday and started to get into the Christmas spirit, but have not visited Father Christmas yet. As it was cold today we didn't go out, which I hate - I get cabin fever these days if stuck inside for too long. Yesterday was a nice day, though, as DS1 went to a birthday party and DS2 fell asleep at the right time for DH and I to have a nice adult lunch out together. I think poor DS2 is teething - he's drooling, has red cheeks and what seems to be a little white mark in his gum, and is definitely out of sorts. DS1 didn't get his first tooth until 6 months. DS2 is starting to wake up earlier in the night as well - last night it was 12am, which meant he didn't last until morning and woke up for a feed at 4.30am.

Wilbur LOL at mad woman in supermarket. Even though we definitely don't want another (and respect to C&CMommy's DH for taking the ultimate prevention) I also am feeling sad at the thought that this is the last time I'll be going through all these stages. Packing up the 0-3 month clothes seemed just too soon. It's amazing to think it's almost a year since I conceived and that I'm sure there will be a "Due in August 06" thread on the ante-natal board soon.

Miaou · 21/11/2005 10:11

Proud mummy alert!! Ds rolled over yesterday!! The first go took him about 10 minutes, but then he had worked out what to do, and the second and third times he did it in seconds!! We all sat round and cheered him - this boy is going to grow up performing to an audience I can tell!

He is 16 weeks old today, so bang on target re the rolling. But since dd1 didn't roll over until she was over a year old, and dd2 was about 5 months, I'm particularly pleased that he is "average"

OP posts:
kate100 · 21/11/2005 10:22

Wow, Miaou, you definitely have bragging rights there, what a clever little boy

Azure, honestly, men!!! You've reminded me that it's a year on the 29th of this month since I found out I was having ds2, it seems like an age ago. I do remember what an emotional day it was 'though. I cries all morning before I took the test as I thought that ds1 would think I didn't love him anymore. Hormones I'm sure, he was only 19 months old, he didn't have a clue waht was going on!!

Josey, what a lovely day. DH and I went shopping for the boys presents yesterday. Everything else I can do on my own, but we like to get the childrens together and he's too busy to go any later in December. I'm definitely feeling Christmassy, I've ordered my turkey and yesterday I made the christmas pudding. So the house smells like Christmas today.

wilbur · 21/11/2005 10:26

Brilliant Baby Miaou - clever boy for rolling! Ds2 is making attempts so I'm having to remember not to leave him on the sofa any more. He certainly reaching out for things a bit now and it's lovely to hear him gurgling when he manages to hit something on his baby gym.

It's freezing here today, I'm supposed to be running boring errands in town but I'm goofing off in the kitchen with a coffee. Must get out soon though as we have our 2nd set of jabs this afternoon (bit late as baby clinic appointments are hard to get at our surgery) and I want to have a quiet time after that.

Azure · 21/11/2005 20:23

Very impressive Miaou. DS2 shows no sign of rolling over whatsoever, but is strong when he is "standing up". I may be wrong about the teething, he wasn't so bad today. In fact we were dreading last night and he slept the best ever - from 8pm until 3.50am.

josey · 22/11/2005 13:01

congrats to baby Maiou sounds like he has been eating his porrige

I passed on my maternity clothes to my friend who is due in May yesterday i was a bit torn between delighted to see them go and sad on the other hand delighted as made it back into another pair of jeans keep at the gym and hopefully shift the spare tyer
got 2nd set of jags today im not looking forward to it trying to get Dh to take her in instead but he having non of it, i dont want to be the baddie all the time

pookey · 22/11/2005 15:11

Hi All

well done baby miaou! Bit worrying will have to keep a beady eye on DS's antics!

Azure I had to put away the first set of clothes when he was 2 months, he is now getting too big for his 3-6 month sleepsuits but maybe I wash them on too high a temp. I think I would be a lot more reluctant to see him growing so fast if he wasn't my first.

Not feeling at all in the xmas spirit, but all your guys preperation sounds gorgeous

Josey you may be right about the milk smell making DS appear hungry, DP is off work next week so will be a good opp for him to put in some had graft and we can see when he really is hungry

kate100 · 22/11/2005 16:56

Azure, I feel sad putting away the clothes too, DS2 passed on newborn, raced through 0-3 and 3-6 and is now in 6-9. I thought I'd be glad to see the back of my maternity clothes to, but I can't quite let them go, so they're being stored in the loft.

More jabs tomorrow , I hate it soooo much and dh hasn't been to any of ds2's as he's been so busy at work.

I've had to take the hood off ds2's car seat, as otherwise I can't fit him into the seat, might have to put him into a bigger seat soon.

Panyanpickle77 · 22/11/2005 21:03

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's ds is getting through clothes at a rate of knots! Joe is such a lovely baby, and even though his teeth are driving him wild (he's got 2 coming through together and is trying to bite everything in sight) he is still smiling and contented. . . . and dribbling and pooing and spewing (generally on me as we are leaving the house!!!). Isn't it funny how you forget things when you have kids (my dh thinks I've got dementia). Obviously I blanked out the "pleasures" (sorry i meant discomfort!?!?!?)of feeding a teething baby. . . . DS has just reminded me with a cheery bite of my nipple hmmmm...............OUCH!

pookey · 22/11/2005 21:08

DS is funny, I went to breastfeed him before he 'asked' for it and his eyes opened really wide with amazment, the poor child must normally be starvin before I feed him.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 22/11/2005 21:14

I can't belive how much bigger your babies are than mine. I feel like something's wrong with her because she's so small, but I know there isn't. It doesn't help that Colin was so big.

Josey-DH did just fine with his vascectomy. There wasn't much of a debate with us in regards to getting it done as I figured it took 4 attempts to get pregnant with my 2 kids. Which is funny, because I was told I probably would have a hard time getting pregnant. How's that for a misdiagnosis?

Congratulations Miaou on DS's rolling over!!!!

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed right now because we're having 6-10 people over at our house for Thanksgiving on Thursday, and am wondering why I volunteered to have it here??????

Miaou · 23/11/2005 11:45

oooh Good luck for Thanksgiving c&cmommy - hope you have a good time! Have you invited people who will insist on doing the clearing up, or are they more likely to want to cuddle Caitlin and leave you to it?

Don't worry about Caitlin being so little compared to the others - don't forget that she was one of the last of our club to be born! Ds is IIRC a month older, so bound to be bigger. And small is beautiful anyway

OP posts:
moschops · 23/11/2005 13:55

c&cmommy.......believe me i am beginning to wish my ds was a little smaller..i can't order any clothes for him online as he is so long that i have to look at everything i buy him first to make sure it'll be comfy for him. his toes curl up in 3-6 months babygros and the next size up drown him! am having to tell people to buy him clothes he will grow into or not buy him clothes at all!

went to see my friend and her 7 week old daughter at the weekend. it seems soooooooo long ago that my little boy was that small and sleepy.....and my friend could hardly believe that in only a few weeks time her dd will be holding her head up and gurgling etc......

well the only part of me that 'bloomed' during pregnancy was my hair......it became lovely and thick now it has started falling out and i'm back to my old 'not quite curly/not quite straight flyaway can't do anything with it' hair that i had before!

well off i go to the baby clinic to get ds weighed.....typically he has just fallen asleep so i will no doubt wake him up getting him ready to leave. grrrrrr its the first afternoon in ages he's given in to having a nap.

pookey · 23/11/2005 15:36

Hi all

Moschops the little buggers always know when they are going out and choose that day to take a nap! Know how you feel about the hair thing mine is falling out in massive clumps in my brush/shower and I keep finding random hairs in weird places like DS' nappy! My hair was pretty thin before so trying not to worry as that will just make it worse.

Braved the Mother and baby group for the first time only for their to be no sign of anyone so had to go home. DS slept beautifully last night 7-5 oh please please do it again!

moschops · 23/11/2005 19:58

has anyone else not left their baby yet? i've only been to the local shop and left ds with dp (grand total of about 20 mins)

i know i have to take the plunge soon or i'll never be away from him. last night i told dp i'm going to cry when ds goes to school....lol which of course is several years away yet.

i don't want to end up in a position where ds will only settle with me either....i need to know that he can be left with the grandparents or a babysitter. it's just that i know what he needs and i'm sure i'll just fret when i'm away from him.

i'm sure these feelings are perfectly normal.....but can someone reassure me it'll change?

Azure · 23/11/2005 20:06

Moschops, perfectly normal feelings. I've had two evenings out (one for less than 2 hours) and have left DS2 at the creche in the gym a few times (under an hour each time). As I'm still breastfeeding, the times I can go out without him are quite limited, but I must admit I'm happy to do so for small periods of time (second child, though).

pookey · 23/11/2005 22:02

I have left DS with my sister and her bf, planned to go to the cinema with dp but we changed our minds as there was no signal for the phone. we went for a meal and were gone for two hours. we talked about ds mainly! we felt bad cos everyone was amazed that we would leave him when he was so young. He was sound asleep and happy as larry when we got back!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 23/11/2005 23:35

I left Caitlin (and Colin) with In-laws when we went to have Derick fixed.

Am very right now. We had one of the kids from playgroup over. He spent the whole time here taking away things from Colin, grabbing him, throwing him to the ground, he bit his shirt and kept it in his teeth and growled like a dog, threw a bunch of stuff at him and finally picked up a toy and hit Colin in the head as hard as he could. When they FINALLY left Colin was in his room whimpering. Sorry nothing to do with my August 05 baby, just needed a rant.

josey · 24/11/2005 10:27

Hi everyone meant to be getting ready to go to baby massage but its snowing so would rather stay in than take dd out still in pjs my excuss is DH kept me awake ALL night snoring as he has decided he has man flu its his own fault for never wearing a jacket even in the snow!!sorry just had to have a little moan.
C&C mommy what a horrible time i bet you wont be inviting them back in a hurry, hope colin is ok now. and glad all went well for you DH i love the way you say fixed hehe
im afraid im guilty of leaving DD a couple of times,2nd baby though, even if its just for an hour it does you both the power of good, a friend of ours wouldnt leave there dd and she still wont be looked after anyone even her gran and she is nearly 7 her poor mum and dad havent been out together in years, maybe im selfish but i would hate that.
had jags on tuesday went ok HV took one look at dd and said oh teething so soon, and here was me convinced she wasnt we are 13lb15oz now which is bang on really for the cloth sizes I think we are one of the last babies to be born in august.

moschops · 24/11/2005 11:44

that's exactly what i want to avoid, Josey.......i don't want to make a rod for my own back by never letting anyone else look after ds.

i am trying to gently ease him into a solid routine so i can at least leave a list of when he eats etc. it would be nice to go out for a meal at christmas, or even for a drink. not that i am drinking at the moment.....after so many months without alcohol i had one glass of red wine the other night and my head was spinning....then i got all paranoid i would sleep through if ds cried in the night!!

ds is 16 weeks old tomorrow and weighs 15lb 2.5oz
HV gave me a leaflet on weaning, and said to try him on soem baby rice to start getting him used to taking food off a spoon. sounds like it'll get messy in our house soon!!

Azure · 24/11/2005 13:09

C&CMommy what a horribly behaved child. I'm just discovering the joys (or otherwise) of playdates, as DS1 has started school. We had one boy around last week who after 20 minutes started crying to go home, so I had to phone his mum to collect him - felt very guilty that it was something I (or DS1) had done, but his mum assured me it was just the boy.

What is everyone getting their little ones for Christmas? I've got a wooden activity cube from Mothercare which is a bit advanced for him at the moment, but other than that I don't think it's worth getting much as he won't know about it anyway and he'll no doubt be getting ghastly noisy plastic toys from other people. I've got the Christmassy sleepsuits that DS1 wore so am looking forward to dressing him in them.

Moschops - wow, thoughts of weaning already. We've got a great picture of DS1 eating some green puree (I can't remember what it was exactly) - yes, a messy business. Josey, when DS2 was weighed on the day of his 2nd jabs he was 13lbs 15 oz too!!!

kate100 · 24/11/2005 15:29

C&Cmommy , was the child's mother there? I'd have been mortified if it had been me and dragged DS home pronto and for a real telling off too.

Azure, we've bought DS2 a new playnest as the one he has from DS1 is quite stained, so he's getting a new one. Couldn't agree more about the horris plastic toys, we/ve asked for people to contribute to ds2's wooden railway, so that should keep the noise down!! ds2 is already in christmas sleepsuits, but i think he'll have grown out of them by the time the day comes, oh dear.

I've left ds2 lots of times, I feel a bit bad about it now, as lots of you don't seem to have done I sort of had to get used to leaving him when ds1 broke his leg and had to go to the hospital. Having said that, I would always be happy for him to be left with DH, but I have left him with other people too. He is really placid though, with ds1 I worried that as he was quite a fussy baby he would cry all the time I was away from him, which he didn't of course. I remember being terrifies the first time I left him and raced home, I think I was only gone about 15 minutes.

We're going to the cotswolds this weekend for a break, as we didn't have a holiday this year. I'm really looking forward to it, as we'll all be together for 4 whole days. Can't wait
