OK, so I sneakily added the word 'thread's', but went with SGJ's suggestion Grin

i am here! just busy... and have had mil visiting so not much time to mn...

Wallace · 12/07/2011 07:59

I am here, but it is school holidays :)

Loooopy · 12/07/2011 10:11

i pop in to read the messages too, just not that often as i used to - DS is now having 2 hours sleep per day if i'm lucky, so when you deduct time for having a shower, getting dressed, dealing with the dishwasher and the ongoing mountain of clothes that need washing/drying etc, watering our veggies, looking after the chickens and giving some fuss to my neglected cat, i don't find much time for getting on here long enough to post anything! (note i've not included food shopping or cooking as meal planning has gone out the window lately :( )

Found time to enter the grand c max test drive thing, so hoping for a bit of luck with that, and been buying euromillions tickets in the vain hope of winning the jackpot! Oh and went to see Take That recently and had DS christened at the end of June and so lots of spare time (lol) went on baking and decorating the cakes for that.

DS is now waking circa 2-4am for a feed, he goes down again and wakes circa 6.30-7.30am again, really knackering me out, i know other babies are worse than this but i guess you get used to what you get used to, and DS as a newborn would go down at 10.30-11.30, wake once in the night for a feed and then wake again at 6-7ish so apart from having 7.30pm onwards to ourselves, we are almost back to the newborn stage :( anyone any idea why he feels the need to wake? He is ravenous when he wakes, the health visitor said he should be getting enough calories from his food during the daytime hours now and shouldn't need to be fed at night, she suggested giving him water, but he really does seem hungry and will only take water in large volumes if it's from a teat rather than his cup. And not sure how much water is safe for them to have without risking intoxication? (he would happily drink 5 oz plus as i think because he is so tired he doesn't realise it isn't milk) And besides he has been off his food the last couple of days, barely eaten any solids, even failed to eat a whole petit filous yesterday which he would usually inhale without a second thought! Discovered late yesterday that his first tooth is on the way, can't see anything as he won't let me look but could feel a sharp bit in his bottom gum when he let me put my finger in his mouth. Does it mean it has broken through or can you feel sharp bits before they cut through? Any idea how long it will take until its through fully and pain has subsided and eating solids might improve?

Finally, been looking at the aquapods that mothercare sell, anyone got one? any opinions? Need a bath seat, but not convinced by the safety first swivel one which seems to dominate the market as it looks tricky to get them in/out of (DS has a tendency to lock his legs whenever you try to put him in or out of anything) and also looks like it'd be harder to clean nooks/crannies in one of those?!

bunnygirl80 · 12/07/2011 10:47

looopy strange how we all get given different advice - my early childhood nurse (similar to a HV) told me that it's perfectly normal for babies between 6-9 mths to geniunely be in need of one night feed. They still have tiny tummies so it can be difficult to get enough food into them during the day.

I've had some success in reducing Will's need for milk in the night by feeding him pretty much constantly during the day. We now do 7am milk, 7:30 brekkie, 9am snack, 11am milk (but he only takes 100ml), 12pm lunch, 1:30pm snack, 3pm milk, 5pm dinner, and 6:30pm milk!! Before I started giving him decent sized snacks he was taking another 150ml of milk at about midnight, but now he'll sometimes resettle without, or only drink 30-40ml before remembering that he's not actually hungry and going back into his cot to resettle himself.

lainey William has been doing the crawling around the cot. I keep having to go in to him because he's got his head stuck up against the bars at one end. He also gets stuck on his tummy and requests rolling back in the middle of the night - he's perfectly capable of rolling himself during the day, but he seems to get tangled in his sleeping bag and blankets in his cot.

Fenouille · 12/07/2011 22:00

Looopy If it's any consolation Norry needs feeding at least once at night more often than not.

We have rolling, tummy sleeping and near crawling here too :) It's always a challenge to find N in his cot at night as he's moving around so much! But I'm obviously a delinquent mother as the tummy sleeping doesn't bother me particularly Blush

CardiCorgi · 13/07/2011 10:39

No time to post! A is on the move - crawling, pulling herself up on things and, in a desperate attempt to get at the phone, a couple of steps whilst clinging on to the sofa. It's nice to get to work for a rest!

4madboys · 13/07/2011 14:17

wow moving babies! merryn is nowhere near crawling tho she is rolling more and sitting up well, also eating well :) and not having milk in the night, tho we have had a few unsettled nights, maybe teeth? tho she was screaming with her eyes open the other night, but not awake, almost like she was having a nightmare, i had to get up out of bed and walk around with her and sing to her to calm her down :(

Mibby · 13/07/2011 15:33

Hi all . im here, reading when I get chance but not posted in a while. DD is bum shuffling around now and eating like its going out of fashion. 24 lb 3oz and 29 inches last week so we can see where its all going. We're in the middle of decorating at the min so slight chaos has taken over. Ill try and come back later :)

Mibby · 13/07/2011 15:34

Oh and still no teeth! :(

Babybean1 · 13/07/2011 16:36

Same here! Read when i get chance by dont really get time to post!

Glad to hear skin is getting better Lainey & Hmm, must be so uncomfortable for them, especially when if we ever get any hot whether!

Afraid to say Lainey that once they master crawling...thats it! Well it is for us anyway! Evie took her first 'proper' crawl moves a week Monday, and now she zooms across the front room! If you saw the video on facebook....she is now double the speed! Im quite amazed at just how quick she makes it to places to be honest and find myself racing to get places that i think she cant get to before her!

She also now has 2 teeth! Went off her food for a few days whilst they were coming through so seems to be a common theme when they're teething.

Loopy i didnt bother with a bath seat. As soon as Evie could sit un-supported i just used a bath mat (1.79p - i think it was!) and it works a treat! Now i know it works well i'll probably invest in one of the coulourful ones aimed at children as this is just boring white! She cant slide anywhere but can still reach for her toys etc. She has now mastered crawling in the bath now tho which is fun! Especially when she crawled off the mat and struggled to get back on causing her to have a little swim on her tummy! Fortunately she loves the water and found it most amusing!! :o

Will try to keep up on here more often!

Mibby · 13/07/2011 18:51

We use a bath mat too but ive got a mamas and papas bath seat we were given if anyone wants it

sancerrre · 13/07/2011 21:06

Loooopy We've got the aquapod, seems to do the trick, probably not as necessary now he's sitting up well but was really useful for keeping him upright when he was first learning to sit up.

You lucky people only getting up once a night! We seem to be going through a phase of either waking every hour or only sleeping while being held. A night of feeding every three hours would be a luxury for me at the moment! bunny same here with the shuffling to the top of the cot and banging his head on it, doesn't seem to know how to reverse.

Still no teeth but seems to be able to munch through most food without them.

4madboys · 15/07/2011 08:32

i have one of those safety first bath seats, the round ones, we bought it for ds1 and have used it with all of them, must dig it out of the loft for merryn. ihave never noticed it being particularly dirty of difficult to clean.........dont actually remember cleaning it, i mean it gets used in the BATH right so its not going to get that dirty...not that i have inspected it closely...its not like they eat off of it 3)

Loooopy · 15/07/2011 13:57

lol 4madboys i meant re being hard to clean the babies nooks and crannies, not the seat ;)

4madboys · 15/07/2011 14:23

ah right well i never experienced any difficulties you can still swoosh the water around them and reach in and wipe around with a flannel etc :)

bunnygirl80 · 15/07/2011 22:37

All this talk of bath seats/mats makes me feel like a neglectful mummy - I hadn't considered getting either. Well, getting a bath mat has been on my to do list for about 4 months but just hasn't got done yet. I just keep one hand holding onto William the whole time so he doesn't slip under the water.

After a week of pretty consistently good sleep, we're back to snotty coughing ear infected Will that we all know and love Grin So we're back to being up every 3hrs or so overnight. His sleep needs seem to have changed again, and he is now really only doing 12hrs at night, whereas up until last week, if he hadn't had good naps in the day I could put him to bed earlier and he'd still sleep until 7-7:30am. This week, if he goes to bed at 6:30 we're up at 6:30am

4madboys · 16/07/2011 08:03

bunny at LEAST you bath will, merryn has had the grand total of TWO baths in her entire life!! Shock i just top and tail her and use wet wipes when necessary, now she is sitting up i will stick her in with the boys more often but she didnt like her last bath and it was def a two person job with 3/4 of them in the bath! so wont be repeating it in a hurry!

sorry sleep is not good, ours is ok ish, we seem to have two good nights followed by random crappy ones and merryn also has decided that 6am is the start of the day, complete with a poo first thing, this morning i made dp get up with her and deal with the poo whilst i went back to bed for half an hour... but was up before 7am, had done bfast and dealt with another poo explosion by 7:30, lie ins are a thing of the past it seems....yawn.

4madboys · 19/07/2011 10:27

where is everyone?!!!

hmmSleep · 19/07/2011 15:52

I'm here Grin!

I'm doing wake to sleep with Lottie at the moment to try and stop the early waking.

OP posts:
Lainey1981 · 19/07/2011 17:02

I'm here too!
Ooh hmm will give that a read, Not sure if 6 am counts as early waking to anyone but me though?
I'm not an avid bather of Finn, maybe twice a week if he's lucky. Am sure that once he starts toddling about and getting himself dirty rather than just ruining his clothers, I will do it more.
We have got a place at a great nursery, oustanding ofsted report. It's based at the university where dp works. We initially asked for 2 days as a week as
I don't have a job yet ans didn't want to have to pay the Shock prices for 5 days til I find one. He starts on 6 sept. I must get my bum into gear and find something. I have no idea what though,
I was a business analyst, but my favourite part of the role was the negotiating, business facing side, hate documentation. Confused if only
I were pretty I could sell myself Wink the world of job hunting is a much scarier placem than it was when I last looked 6 years ago.
Dp and I still not getting on great Sad just arguing over stupid stuff all the time. Apparently i don't do enough around the house and am generally all round rubbish
Sorry ramblimg.
Hope those with dc on schol hols are enjoying it
Ooh random question, anyone planning to have another dc in the v near future. I only ask as accidentally clicked on oct 2010 post natal and ended up having a cheeky read, a few of them are preggers already Shock

Lainey1981 · 19/07/2011 17:02

bunny hope poor Will is better

4madboys · 19/07/2011 17:06

merryn has been a fan of early morning recently as well, but generally after 6am which i can cope with, we have had the odd 5am start and i have handed her to dp and gone back to bed!

merryn is being a bit of a pita with her naps at the moment, not reliably having much daytime sleep at all, not settling well, waking up screaming etc, BUT today i have put her down in bed upstairs rather than in the pram and she has gone off fine!! so fingers crossed that may be the solution which would be good with it being school holidays so she can sleep upstairs whilst boys play downstairs/outside :)

good luck with the job hunt lainey xx

and def NO more babies here! ihave done my share!

Babybean1 · 19/07/2011 17:16

Here too :)

Evie has a bath everyday as I love just how yummy she smells and its so nice to have cuddly time after in her Jims jams. She also really loves the bath, it helps tire her out, and also helps her sleep I think. Sure does me after a nice warm bath anyway....not that I need much help falling asleep of course!

Lainey don't want to tempt fate by saying it....but we are considering another DC pretty soon. Took so long last time that I'd rather just go with the flow instead of actually 'trying' and see what happens!
Hope things with your DP aren't too bad :( Have you had a night out together without Finn? Perhaps that would help?

Off to see to the beef casserole chucked together loving prepared for the little lady! Not really my choice of meal tbh...& I know why! It smells VILE! Hope it tastes better than it smells!

hmmSleep · 19/07/2011 17:30

Lainey I got pregnant with ds when dd1 was only 10 months, I think that's when hormones kick in telling your body and tricking your mind that you're physically up to the job again, and also when our gorgeous little ones seem to be growing up all the time making us yearn for a tiny newborn again and our memories of what pure exhausting hell it was have faded. I actually think it's a really nice age gap. Having said that I'm sticking at 3 probably . Good luck with the scary job hunting and tell your dh to f-off from me Wink

Interesting to hear about Merryn's napping 4mad, Lottie sounds similar so may follow your lead and see if I can put het to nap in her cot over the holidays.
