OK, so I sneakily added the word 'thread's', but went with SGJ's suggestion Grin

poor you. have a nice time watching andy tomorrow though!

bunnygirl80 · 01/07/2011 01:50

Iddo hope Finn feels better soon, and you manage to avoid the pox

4mad sounds like Merryn's doing well with her new feeding schedule

I've changed William's routine in the hope of getting a better night's sleep sometime before he's 15 Grin So far he's doing well in the day, although his morning nap now runs from 10-11:30, the exact times that the playgroup I want to start taking him to is on [boo]. Last night was the best we've had since he got sick, so hopefully we're on the way back to some vague semblance of a decent night.

Just have to say how much I love my GP too. Had to take Will yesterday as he can't go back to nursery without a medical certificate saying his conjunctivitis has gone......so of course after 2 days of clear eyes they gunked up again just before our appointment. But my lovely lovely doctor has arranged to see us before the surgery would normally open on Monday morning so she can do his certificate then and we can still get him to nursery on time, and she's not going to charge us either Grin

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 01/07/2011 10:05

4mad glad merryn seems to be doing better on her new routine.
I think so far I have avoided the pox tho my face seems to have broken out in spots but nothing elsewhere, so prob just premenstrual. I shall keep you updated with spot watch lol.
finn is much better now, and his temp is back to normal after 2 days of spiking between 39.4 down to 38.5 with calpol/nurofen. He has lots of spots but they aren't that big, so guess it's considspered a mild case. When do they become itchy? He doesn't seem bothered by them atm which is good. Seem to have had 3 lots of outbreaks, so hoefully he has all his spots now, but they are getting a bit bigger. Do I have to keep him in while they are contagious (5 days?)
bunny sounds like you have a lovely doctor. I love my surgery now after the squeezed us in on weds between surgeries
looking forward to wimbledon today. Fingers crossed andy murray can see off
Nadal.

Fenouille · 01/07/2011 17:20

Hello everyone! Glad to hear the new schedules are going well and that the pox has not treated Finn too badly (fingers crossed for you too iddo). Just found out our CM has caught chickenpox now, it's her third time! So N'll have to go to his other gp's when we get back.

We're leaving him with my parents tomorrow so we can go to a wedding so we've been training them up.

N all of a sudden seems to have got the hang of food, he's shoveling it down now, and his first two teeth appeared yesterday - top and bottom right! Bf is a bit sharp at the moment :)

Currently watching the Murray-Nadal match, very well balanced so far...

4madboys · 01/07/2011 18:00

thanks ladies, another good day today with merryn, tho she hasnt slept as much as normal as we were out at nap time.. but she is happy and has done well with milk and food :)

fenn, ouch for teeth, merryn has her bottom two and i think she is getting more at the bottom, hard to tell but she is trying to bite EVERYTHING!

on the toddler front ds4 is on his fourth day without nappies!! woo hoo and only one accident! the little swine will wait til he is busting and then i make him sit on the potty, but he is doing well, we still have poos to deal with, he tends to do it first thing so before i get the night time nappy off, but quite frankly as long as he is dry at day i care not about that, it will sort itself with time :)

SGJ · 02/07/2011 20:38

Oooooooooowwwwww! That's the sound of me stopping breastfeeding - day 2 now, one side doing fine, other side gigantic & v sore!! Am self medicating with summery prosecco, mmmm...

4Mad - good news re potty training, that's great! And Merryn seems to be following almost exactly the same feeding schedule as Jessica, timewise, must be something to do with them having matching adorable chubby legs!

Lainey/Iddo - any news on spot watch? Almost texted you the other day to see I you fancied a meet up but probably best I didn't!

Have managed to secure Sunday evening & Monday day time babysitter as I was planning to go in to work for the day, but my boss & half my team are off so decided against it & now have that time to myself.... what to do?!? Was thinking of going shopping but with massive boob(s) everything will look odd, likewise gym or massage is out... Anyone got any suggestions to prevent me just spending the time cleaning the house?!?

4madboys · 02/07/2011 21:39

yowch at the boobs sgj, it will be fine within a week tho! if you can bear it wear a tight fitting bra and top that will help and have a bath!

enjoy your day off, go to the cinema, sleep! have a bath, paint your toe nails, go get a pedicure, get you hair done etc etc!

right i am off to bed, have a killer headache and feel yuck :(

ds2's bday tomorrow this time nine years ago i was at the n&n waiting for them to break my waters, they finally found a space for me on delivery floor at midnight! he was born at 7am! 9 tomorrow! scary!

bunnygirl80 · 03/07/2011 11:00

SGJ I feel your boob pain Grin Am now down to only 2 feeds a day and while the right side is coping fine, the left has been rock hard and painful all day, and looking distinctly lopsided.

4mad happy birthday to DS2

I decided on Friday that I was going to drop his morning BF on 11th July and then drop his evening feed a couple of weeks later. Now I'm wavering and struggling to decide whether I want to stop completely or not - I feel sad that he's already looking more like a boy than a baby, and stopping BFing feels like letting him grow up. Might keep his bedtime feed going for a while longer, until I'm feeling happier about my decision.

Went to get some new clothes for him yesterday, as he's now too long for some of his size 0 stuff. Couldn't find any size 1 in the baby section......then realised it's all in the boys' section, so according to clothes shops he's not a baby any more [sob]

SGJ · 04/07/2011 20:47

Sympathy, Bunny, we've got matching boobs (so to speak!!) Right is fine, left is huge & rock hard! Hoping it'll go down soon as it's not hurting as much today, probably as Jessica has been out with my sister all day so no baby to encourage milk hormones! I've been out in the garden all day, got loads done but also got stung by a wasp & discovered the people next door have a massive wasps nest in their garden, right under Jessica's bedroom window, hurrah! Will be spending most of the weekend out in town as I don't want to risk her getting stung whilst they get rid of it.

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 05/07/2011 10:31

sgj glad your boobs are feeling a bit better, hopefully won't be long now.
Eek about the wasps nest. Which reminds me, we had a letter through from our neighbour saying they think we have a wasps nest - quite a few wasps hovering over our guttering by the kitchen window. Shall have to call the landlord.
Spot watch is complete here, think I must be immune which is a relief. finn has had such a mild case in terms of spots and irritability am beginning to wonder if it was a misdiagnosis?
We are now on tooth watch tho Grin he has had an irritable few days, culminating in yesterday (aka worse day ever) where he pretty much cried constantly and chewed on everything including his tongue non stop so I guessed this would be the week where a tooth would finally cut through. Sure enough when he woke up, in a good mood caught sight out a little white in hspis mouth, had a feel and a sharp bit of hid bottom tooth has cut through. Hurrah! How long does it usually take for it to come through all the way? And does this mean we can have a few days of happy baby please?
Me and DP have been arguing constantly over the last week Sad as he still in lot of pain with ribs and I am knackered from crying, constant attention needing, night waking baby. Ho hum.
I introduced breakfast yesterday as seems v hungry after havung 5 days without solids. Went down a storm, so i now have a 3 meal a day baby. Does feel like I am constantly feeding him though ...
Must go and change my name back to normal now wimbledon is over and the dream has been crushed for another year

4madboys · 05/07/2011 10:46

iddoandy, if it helps dp and i had a HUGE row last night! proper shouty Blush not one of our finest moments, combination of tiredness, fussy baby, needing to fork out £300 for ds1's school trip, dp working loads this week etc etc all the usual stuff, but iwas proper 'have had enough of this' argument, i went to bed in the end and he slept on the sofa...he seemed reasonable enough this morning and i got an apology and a cup of tea, we will muddle through as always and they always say NOT to make any major decisions about relationships in the first year of a babies life just cos everything is so topsy turvy and you are tired etc.

re teeth, merryns came through quite quickly, tho have yet to push up properly ifkwim? but she seems ok now they have cut through, tho i think there are more coming.

has anyone else found that solids equal more poo and lots of farting? merryn used to poo every other day, not its twice a day most days and lots of farts, particularly in the night which disturb her sleep and mine... yawn.

4madboys · 05/07/2011 12:06

my sister had her 12wk scan and all is good! baby due 14th jan Grin

AND i have a small boy who is happily using the potty, no accidents for a few days now and no screaming tantrums at not having a nappy on, i think we have mastered it!

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 05/07/2011 13:26

Yay 4mad fantastic news for your sister! You must all be thrilled

4madboys · 05/07/2011 13:51

yep very chuffed! just waiting for her to tell everyone and then i can update fb Grin

4madboys · 05/07/2011 14:31

its all official and now on fb, including a pic of the baby itself!! Grin

dances round the thread singing i am going to be an aunty

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 06/07/2011 12:58

I love being an aunty 4mad I have five nieces!
Had hellish night with Finn, awake between 1.30-4am screaming, only happy being cuddled. Then up for the day at 6. Have just looked in his mouth and tooth number 2 has cut through. So 2 in 2 days. Fingers crossed we get a few weeks off now. Poor little thing, and poor me am like a zombie after all the illness/ crying over the last week

Fenouille · 06/07/2011 21:23

Oooh, congratulations 4mad :)

Lainey I feel your pain as we had 2 in 2 days too. Fingers crossed for you for some well rested nights.

Norry's having fun at his DGPs this week but DH and I have both caught a tummy bug (or possibly food poisoning from my lovely friend's wedding) so we're rolling about at home rather than being back at the grindstone. Not sure what would be worse actually! Oh well, I think I might be over the worst of it although DH is still suffering.

Just a quick question about teeth - I suppose we need to start brushing them? Bunny can you advise? DMIL bought a rubber thing with a brush on it that goes over a finger. Should we just let him chew it for a bit or do we need to actively brush? Do we need to use toothpaste too? Does it need to be special baby toothpaste or is bog standard Colgate sufficient? Thanks!

bunnygirl80 · 07/07/2011 01:58

4mad congrats on the potty and on impending auntiness Smile

lainey hope Finn's more settled now his teeth are through

fen the official advice about brushing is to start as soon as there are teeth, and to use toothpaste. I think the department of health in the UK have recently changed their official guidance to say that you should use a toothpaste with 1000ppm fluoride in it. However my personal opinion, and that of all my dentist friends, is that that is way way too strong a dose for a baby who can't spit out. The risk if they ingest too much fluoride is that they'll get marks on the adult teeth. I think that advice is aimed at the lowest common denominator who brushes their baby's teeth once a year and gives them bottles of juice to go to sleep with.

What I think is sensible for people who have some idea about a reasonable diet and the importance of toothbrushing, is to let Norry play with the brush himself so he gets used to the sensation, and then have a go at gently brushing his teeth for him. At this stage it's important to make it fun rather than a battle in the hope that he'll then be more cooperative once he's a toddler and you really do need to brush his teeth well. If you want to use toothpaste, then just use a tiny smear of baby toothpaste until he's old enough to know to spit it out. Not sure if you have fluoride in the water in France - if you do then I'd skip the toothpaste completely as he'll get plenty of fluoride (assuming you give him tap water in drinks/formula)

I have two exciting things to report about William's progress Smile Firstly he slept through the night last night for the first time ever Grin. Secondly, he did a painting at nursery yesterday that involved the use of copious amounts of glitter, so I was greeted with a very sparkly poo when I changed his nappy this morning GrinGrin

CardiCorgi · 07/07/2011 08:38

Great news 4mad I think I'm going to have to wait a long time to be an aunty.

Thanks for the toothbrushing advice. Aino loves her toothbrush, the main problem is wrestling it off her when we think her (two) teeth are clean enough.

I got vomited on yesterday - was congratulating myself on looking reasonably smart for once and there was a warning hiccup followed by a projectile puke of the type last seen during my college rowing days Shock . A then went back to playing happily, kept her next feed down and her dinner and has been fine since. Is this normal?

4madboys · 07/07/2011 10:41

thanks for the congrats, i am soo excited Grin

cardi fingers crossed for your sister, i remember you saying she is having a tough time :(

thanks for the reminders about teeth cleaning, i do the boys but need to buy merryn a toothbrush, we use baby toothpaste whoever asked? there is one for under two, then ds4 has one for children under 6? and the middle two have one for 6-9 yr old and ds1 just uses adult toothpaste, thats a LOT of different tubes of toothpaste to have in the bathroom...

yay for the sleep bunny Grin merryn is snotty and has a cough, so not much sleep here, well she will sleep if i hold her and jig/rock her... but not much sleep for me, everytime i doze off lying with her in the crook of my arm she starts to wriggle and wake unless i jig her again...

hope you feel better soon Fenn.

and Grin at glitter poo! i am making some borscht soup today it will be nice and thick so perfect weaning food for merryn, so i expect some interesting coloured poo in the next few days!

and merryn shocked me yesterday i grabbed, spinach, swede and apple for her dinner!! it looked like meconium when defrosted and smelt rank, but she wolfed it down!! strange girl!

Fenouille · 07/07/2011 13:00

Bunny DH and I both Grin Grin at William's glittery poo Grin And seriously, I think our children are communicating somehow as the night before last (so 12 hours before Will's epic sleep, if I haven't got my time zones confuzzled) Norry slept 9pm to 8am Shock Could you please tell William to pass on his napping tips though...

And thanks for the toothsome advice, we'll have to go and buy a toothbrush this weekend then! Pretty sure the water's fluorinated here and he's getting plenty of that so won't bother with the toothpaste just yet.

4mad Borscht poo sounds delightful as well Hmm I feel that I am constraining Norry's creativity by only feeding him boring normal coloured food.

Cardi Norry did the projectile vomit thing over me just as we were arriving at the airport to fly home the other day. I obviously can't speak for Aino but I think that Norry was just trying to piss me off express his contempt for BAA and the DfT who confiscated his explosive cough syrup despite it having already transited France and Portugal. Luckily he did it before we checked in the cases though so I was able to change and get DH to hold him for the rest of the journey.

Sorry, better stop now, I'm getting a bit carried away with all the strikethroughs Grin

hmmSleep · 07/07/2011 14:02

Glad you sister's scan went well 4mad, how exciting.

I bought Lottie a toothbrush months ago in anticipation and believe it or not she has already had her first check up at the dentist, even though she is still showing no signs of any teeth appearing any time soon!

Lottie has now started waving, she loves it and waves whenever we walk past someone and says 'na na', she could be copying 'na night' which is what I say at bedtime, but suspect it's just a random noise. She also shakes her head for 'no', normally when refusing food!

Another happy note she thankfully seems to be growing out of her eczema, we're having to use the various creams less and less and it hasn't had a really bad flare up for a few weeks now, fingers crossed it stays that way.

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 08/07/2011 10:06

fen our babies are definitely somehow communicating. I do often MN with Will sitting on my lap, so perhaps he is actually a super super genius and is able to read the thread Grin I think maybe he is actually having Norry's naps as well as his own as he had a 3 hour nap this afternoon Shock I woke him after 2 hours but he was so miserable I gave him a big cuddle and he went back to sleep in my arms, and stayed there for another hour.

4mad hope Merryn feels better soon

hmm I have had Will's first toothbrush in my possession since I was convinced he was teething at 3 months. We still have no teeth, although there are now 4 sitting just under the surface.

That's good that Lottie's eczema is improving Smile

I took Will to a baby sign language course yesterday. I had really only signed us up so I could make some new mum friends in the area. There was only one other person on the course, and it turns out she's a friend of mine anyway Grin Looks like I'll just have to stick with the friends i have already!!

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 11/07/2011 10:59

it's very quiet on here! have we de-camped to facebook?
well, last few days have been hectic. Finn just does not stop moving anymore. i sit him down with his toys, and he throws himself forward, rolls and then gets onto all fours. this morning he managed to move himself forward towards his toy, so while clearly not quite competent, proper crawling can only be a matter of days away eek.let the baby-proofing begin.
I am guessing it will be a while before he is charging round the room?
it is hard work as the former tummy time hater, keeps rolling on to his tummy in his cot while napping. also before each nap he seems to spend 10/15 mins frustratedly on all fours trying to crawl but just getting stuck in awkward positions lol. freaked me out the first time i saw him sleeping on his stomach, but he looked v comfortable.
he also seems to be stuck on repeat with his babbling, ra-ra-ra-ra-ra, adorable the first day, not so much today
i am hoping his waking at 4/5am for the last few days is related to trying to crawl, as it's no fun. DP no fun, just get a grumpy moan about how he has to go to work Hmm
hmm glad Lottie's skin is improving. Finn's also seems much better and hardly ever use his cream anymore. think bathing him less often has actually helped. doctor's orders lazy mother
hope all is ok, sorry for epic post, just can't believe how much they change in a matter of days sometimes!

Lainey1981 · 11/07/2011 11:01

right, have remebered to name change. back to normal
