OK, so I sneakily added the word 'thread's', but went with SGJ's suggestion Grin

love the new name btw Grin

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 22/06/2011 16:16

Blush forgot had changed it for the wimbledon thread

Fenouille · 23/06/2011 13:50

bunny you could make millions Shock ... I demand a finder's fee Grin Had to use your patented 'big stick' drove him round in the car today to get Norry down for his first nap. He's currently resisting his afternoon nap and I'm resisting finishing the packing

LOVE the name Lainey, although Roger F is more my type :)

4mad can't help with the quantities as we're still bf here, but I'm planning on introducing breakfast while at my DParent's and dropping his 9.30 feed (he normally gets up around 7.45, bf at 8 then again (or 180ml if at CM) at 9.30 before his morning nap. We have lunch and bf (or 180ml) at 12ish, then another bf/180ml at 4ish. Then dinner and bf at 6.30ish. He normally has one night feed too so I think I should be OK cutting out the morning feed. It mostly seems to be to help him to sleep anyway

Anyway, it's only in the last couple of weeks that N's started really being interested in food and eating anything in any great quantity (he's 7.5m now). I was not exactly worrying but rather hoping we hadn't made a fussy eater when he suddenly started eating well after a good month of eating only a couple of spoonfuls with a distainful look on his face.

Argh, got to go, nap has been successfully resisted by the sound of it.

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 23/06/2011 15:14

Naps not a problem here, pretty predictable ( for the moment at least) he has just gone down for his afternoon nap, giggling one minute, asleep the next.
Now if we could just figure out why he cries out 3-5 times a night, I will be happy. He seems to stay asleep through the crying and now I have learnt nOt to leap out of bed at the first squeak, generally he is the least disturbed by it all.
Could it be night terrors ( someone stealing his milk in dreamland perhaps?). Can't compai really after the dodgy week we had lasat month, but am such a light sleeper these days, it is quite annoying.
He just polished off a random concoction carefully thought out and prepared home cooked poached cod (1/4 fillet] sweet potato and tomato for lunch. Definitely loving food right now.

IdDoAndyMurrayInAHurry · 23/06/2011 15:15

just -like his mum--

hmmSleep · 23/06/2011 19:27

Lottie is down to 2 half hour naps a day, one around 9:30 then another at 12ish, means I never seem to have time to get anything done. I'm not complaining though so long as she sleeps at night!

2half hour naps? Shock no wonder you find it hard to get things done

hmmSleep · 23/06/2011 22:08

I know, the problem is she doesn't 'transfer', so if she falls asleep with me holding her I can't put her down, if she falls asleep in pushchair with it moving she wakes when it stops, same with car. The times she naturally wants to nap I'm always having to do various school / playgroup / club runs with the older 2 so can never actually put her down for a nap in her cot. I'm hoping come September when Ds is at school all day with Dd1 I'll get a bit more of a routine going Hmm.

Ds had his first afternoon settling in day at school today, he looked so tiny in his uniform.

Annabels up to three meals a day, and a snack :) but down to two 3/4 hr naps so i feel your pain hmmSleep

bunnygirl80 · 24/06/2011 01:41

4mad sleep is definitely 2 steps forward and 730000 steps back with sleep in this house at the moment. We've had 5 nights with only 1 wake up, then last night he was up 3times for an hour each time with his blocked up nose. He ended up sleeping on my chest, so I got little to no sleep either. He's now crawling around the lounge getting into mischief as if he's not ill at all, while I'm struggling to keep my eyes open.

I think I've finally reached a zen acceptance of having crap sleep forever - even if he does eventually sleep through it's not going to last - he'll be up for teething, colds, when he's a big boy and we take the side off the cot etc etc etc. There's always someone who has it worse - my friend's 18mth old DD is only letting them get 45mins sleep a night at the moment Shock She jumped the side of the cot the other night, so it was swiftly converted into a bed, and now she's making the most of the freedom to run around her room all night long.

fen I'll give you a finder's fee if you and Norry accompany me on my book tours to give glowing testimonials of my skills

hmm two half hour naps Shock

SGJ · 24/06/2011 08:20

Jessica is another one who generally only has 2 half hour naps but then she does make up for it by sleeping for about 13 hours each night! She goes down about 7.30 but the last couple of nights has been waking around 9.30 in hysterical fits, literally hysterical - tears, dragging deep breaths etc... teething? She still has no teeth (6.5 mo) but I think this could be the reason??

Also, she is a giant hieffer, apparently (19lbs) - HV told me she's put on too much weight in the last 10 days but (in a classic display of HV conflicting advice in same sentence) that I should be feeding her MORE meat, fish & pasta and less (clearly low calorie) veg & fruit purees... oh, and not even considering dropping any milk... I know they're all bonkers, I just fancied getting out of the house in the break between raining episodes! Smile

hmmSleep · 24/06/2011 13:36

Oh dear, they can be a bit bonkers can't they. Last time I went with Lottie the hv noticed her eczema and asked what I was doing about it. I said I've repeatedly been back to the gp and tried various creams both prescribed and over the counter, the epiderm and aqueous creams just aggravated it but aveeno followed by sudocrem were both working really well at controlling it. The HV said, oh, don't use those, sudocrenm won't help at all, use the Epiderm. I smiled and nodded and kept doing what I want anyway.

Another one here with lots of random waking in the night. Crying is usually just a whimper though so will have to take andymurray's advice and try to leave it for a bit and see if he self settles.

Has anybody else's little darling started pinching them? When I'm holding him if he's upset / tired / frustrated he grabs handfuls of my arm and squeezes really hard over and over again in the same place and it's blimmin painful. I've had to put him down a couple of times, which I feel awful about when he needs comforting.

And those with blocked up noses, I can recommend Calrub, seems to be stronger than baby Vicks, I guess because it's for 6+ months and Vicks is for 2+ months.

Mibby · 24/06/2011 17:27

Annabels done the pinching thing to DH several times :( She also likes pulling hair

bunnygirl80 · 25/06/2011 08:06

Well William gave us quite a scare today. After getting conjunctivitis yesterday and still being blocked up he had a hugely bad night's sleep. Would only sleep upright and in 30min blocks so me and DH ended up taking it in turns to pace the floor with him.

Got up this morning and he was really overtired - he lasted an hour before needing his first nap, but he slept for 90mins in his pram. He got up and fed but then just started whimpering and wanting to be held the whole time. I put him down for about 5mins while I got dressed, and he'd normally roll over and start crawling around, but he just lay there. I then picked him up and he was burning up and he just flopped in my arms while still whimpering in a really strange way. Took his temp and it was 38.9 so gave nurofen as he'd already had panadol, and stripped him down to his nappy, and he just flopped and fell asleep in my arms (which he hasn't done since he was a couple of weeks old). Took his temp again 30 mins later and it was still climbing Sad

I then started to really worry about him, as whimpering and being floppy like that are very very unusual for him. He was also breathing really fast and very shallow. DH rang our local equivalent of NHS direct to ask whether we should head to the emergency GP or A&E and while he was on the phone the cheeky little monkey woke up, started giggling and acted like he'd never been ill at all. They told us to just keep dosing him up with panadol and nurofen, and see how he is tomorrow. Within an hour of me having been pretty much ready to bung him in the car and drive to A&E he was crawling around like nothing had ever happened Confused

I think maybe the flopping and sleeping was just a symptom of him having only had about 6hrs sleep overnight. Fever seems to have gone, so hopefully we'll have a better night tonight [fingers firmly crossed]

4madboys · 25/06/2011 11:14

can anyone give advice on my thread?

Wallace · 25/06/2011 20:24

bunny - scary! so glad he is ok.

Wallace · 25/06/2011 20:26

4mad - sorry had a look but can't help xxx

4madboys · 25/06/2011 20:40

thats ok wallace, she took her last feed of after refusing it at first, and i think she has a bit of a temp so maybe its ajust a bug, am going to see how she goes tomorrow and take her to the drs on monday if need be :)

and what a fright bunny! cheeky little rascal, they know how to raise our blood pressure thats for sure!

Fenouille · 25/06/2011 22:12

bunny sounds scary but glad he's feeling better now. We'd be delighted to come on tour with you as long as Norry doesn't actually need to do any sleeping Hmm He had an hour long screaming fit tonight which wasn't helped by my dad telling us that he was 'playing the system' and that we should just leave him to cry it out

Fenouille · 25/06/2011 22:13

Sancerre N also pinches, including chins, cheeks and boobs! Ouch!

4madboys · 25/06/2011 22:40

i know fen, i SHOULD know it all with five you would think! but she is only my second bottle fed baby and ds4 was a milk guzzler, he still has a bottle now before bed at three years! and these babies have a habit of throwing a curve ball at you, they are all different! she has slept fine this evening and i am about to sort her bottles etc for her 11pm feed and the 5am feed and head off to bed with her, fingers crossed for a reasonable night, last night she was awake 4am-5:30..not good, so something is def bothering her! she wasnt unhappy tho, just awake and eventually fell asleep in the crook of my arm and slept till 8am, shame the boys didnt sleep in tho Hmm

dp should be home in a bit, am glad he will be home to help out tomorrow!

btw merryn giggles in her sleep and sometimes cries out, as does ds4 and ds3 talks in his sleep! the other night he was saying Rhianna, Rhianna, the name of one of his best friends!

4madboys · 25/06/2011 22:41

we dont have pinching but merryn is a hair grabber and is developing a fascination with my piercings, nose, tongue and bottom lip! she hasnt managed to get a good hold and yank yet tho, thankfully!

sancerrre · 26/06/2011 01:19

bunny that sounds terrifying. I'm sure I'd have been jumping up and down in A&E if I were you. Glad he got better before you had to take him there.

4mad just read your thread but am a clueless first timer so unable to help I'm afraid. I hope she gets her appetite back soon. I was really surprised how quickly William's nappies changed as soon as he went on solids, literally within a week from baby poos to grown up poos so thought he must be taking in more than I thought he was. Am now thinking maybe small amounts of solids fill them up more than I thought they would. Obviously you have far better idea of this than me though so would know if this was the case with Merryn.

Thanks Fen and Mibby for the reasurrance that I don't have the only pincher. I think I might have a particularly vicious one though! He does the hair pulling too, it's in a constant ponytail but he still finds those really painful ones on the back of my neck to swing from. With that and the post pregancy moulting I'm not going to have much hair left soon!

bunnygirl80 · 26/06/2011 01:31

4mad William started fussing like mad over feeds when he was getting his ear infection - he'd start off fine then completely refuse after a minute or so. I think the sucking hurt his ears and put him off continuing. He was ok once we realised he was ill and started treating him though - he more than made up for the lack of intake. He was really snotty again yesterday afternoon, and refused his 3pm bottle, his dinner, and his bedtime BF. Ended up waiting for him to be fast asleep and sneakily latching him on without waking him - he took a little bit but didn't drain the boob. He then woke at 10pm and 3am and had absolutely massive feeds, and has taken his milk and solids as normal this morning.

So perhaps she's just feeling a bit under the weather with something? Maybe give her a bit of calpol 30 mins before a feed

fen I'm thinking that if I'm going to convince people that I have magic baby sleeping powers then Norry might actually have to be sleeping peacefully some of the time Grin

I've had the "just let them cry it out" arguement discussion with my parents. I think that was part of the reason why we had major problems with his sleep when they came to stay - I became determined to never let him utter even a whimper so he got used to being picked up as soon as he stirred

lainey Will has cried in his sleep a few times. It's horrible to watch as he seems so distressed, yet he's fast asleep so not much I can do without waking him.

Will seems to be on the road to recovery now - don't know why he was suddenly so poorly yesterday, but it seems like that was the worst of it as he's much happier today. We had a relatively good night (if you ignore the food refusal aspect) he only had 3 wake ups, and he resettled quickly. His nose is still stuffy so he's mouth breathing, and he's started talking in his sleep Hmm I was woken by him squawking 3 or 4 times in the night and he didn't seem to be stopping after 10mins so I went into his room, only to find him fast asleep and mumbling to himself. He did look like something out of a horror movie when I got him up this morning though- the gunk from his eyes had kind of merged with the gunk from his nose leaving his whole face covered in dried on green goo Grin
