bananacurry · 11/06/2011 15:40

afternoon all! Ds1 is at a friends for the day, Dh has taken Olly to B&Q so i'm home alone Grin

Ollys started giving kisses. well, headbutts but if you say "give us a kiss" he launches at you! I love it. He's also started copying sounds & said "o oh" on holiday. Can we class that as his 1st word???

I'm going to see my new neice tomorrow. I'm very excited. Hope it doesn't make me broody!

Cinnamon Hope your friend & baby are ok. 4lb isn't a bad weight for 34weeks and its only 2 weeks off term.

sassy34264 · 11/06/2011 17:49

congrats chelle
i know exactly what you mean saoirse. im the same with my mil. we went to the carvery this week with sil and her ds who is 3 months older than jacob and isobel and she gave him some wine!!! Shock i think she did it to show me that he likes it. [hmmm] she had jacob at one minute and next thing she didnt- im like wheres jacob?!! she'd put him down undwr the table on the floor. when i said he'll eat things off the floor, she said " its ok im watching him" didn't bother to point out that as he doesn't walk yet he's going to be crawling through good knows what-spilt alcohol, food, peoples outdoor feet debris maybe even sick stains. argh. got sil to hold isobel while i picked him up. she keeps saying- when they stay with me........ god im dreading it. she lets them play with her keys and mobile - im not ocd but how much germs are gonna be on them? im just glad im pregnant and therefore i never go out anywhere!

bananacurry · 11/06/2011 18:19

Oh no Sassy can I have another bad mummy tick?? Olly plays with keys, he was chewing the buckle on the plane seatbelt yesterday! I can see where you're coming from but they need some exposure to things like that to build up their immunity. I don't give him wine tho! Why would you do that?? a baby liking wine is not something to be proud of!

Does anyone know about ear infections??? Olly has a smelly ear. Its been like it for ages. He often rubs it but I thought that was his teeth. I'm now wondering if I'm being rubbish & missing an infection!

sassy34264 · 11/06/2011 18:34

to be honest banana its not so much the keys as the doll key ring on it. it looks about 10 years old and im guessing its never been washed. im ok with them being exposed to some germs and i use to wash all of chloes dolls, mats, toys weekly when she was little. i havent washed anything unless they've sicked on it, so i know im not completely fanatical. but i really cant have them crawling around on a pub floor. i wouldnt do it myself, so defo dont want babies doing it.
jacob had his 1st ride in a supermarket trolley last week and i caught him licking and sucking the trolley. i did think yuk but i know it wont kill him, i just wouldnt give him the trolley to suck- iyswim?

bananacurry · 11/06/2011 18:49

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I don't mind him crawling on hard floors but I'm not a fan of public carpets. you can hoover but you can't clean! The most minging thing ollys had in his mouth was sea water and sand! he kept splashing in the sea, putting his hands in the sand & sucking them!!! I'd have been sick! My friend found her dd with a slug in her mouth [yuk]
Oh and hospital floors! I hate seeing babies crawling round on hospital floors!!

saoirse86 · 11/06/2011 18:57

sassy I understand! TBH I think Orlaith picks up a lot of germs with the crawling about and she likes to lick everything Hmm but I don't give her dirty things to lick. She gets enough colds without me helping matters.
I meet up with some other mums at our local wetherspoons every monday afternoon (just because it's convenient, not because we all like to get drunk with the weirdos there). I have started to let Orlaith crawl on the floor there but only because it's a quiet room we go in and the carpet gets cleaned on monday mornings so I don't think it's quite as disgusting and because she annoys me wriggling about on my lap! Grin
Seriously though wine?!?!?! Shock As if anyone would do that. Confused My SIL and PILs often say things about "when she's with us..." but they don't seem to understand that these things they say and do are actually stopping me from letting her be with them so much.

sassy34264 · 11/06/2011 19:53

its even worse than you think as my nephew was born with an enlarged kidney and mil told me only 2 weeks ago that it is still enlarged- cant imagine wine would help! im presuming thats not the 1st time hes had any either. sil did say no mum about 3 times but she didnt take her on- may hace something to do with the fact that she is only 19yrs old. mil did say to her friend who was also there that she darent give my two any as i 'll attack her(jokingly) but i wouldnt put it past her to do it if i wasnt there. luckily, dp isnt that close to her and would totally agree with me and back me up if the need arose. god, he doesnt even want them having juice or snacks- its water and fruit all the way. im like you saoirse the more she does the more it stops me from letting her have them. im lucky (in every way) with my mum, i trust her more than i trust anyone, shes more safety, well being conscious than me, so i know they are safe. infact i think she would do a better job than me! so i have no issues there.
banana i mentioned in a previous post about taking jacob to the docs (fri) cos he was pulling on his ears and she said one was inflamed a bit but just gave me calpol. chloe had a spate of suffering from ear infectins after we got back from a holiday in tunisia when she was 7. and from my recollection they made her very ill, with pain and a very high temperature. for peace of mind though i would just take him. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 11/06/2011 20:45

Me too with giving them keys bananacurry, they are Luke's favorite thing to play with although my mum doesn't approve! Dh put Luke on the floor of a pub when we were on holiday and I was a bit Hmm about it but with 4 cats, a dog and what feels like hundred children passing through my house each day it's probably no cleaner Blush. He also gives him empty cider cans which worries the life out of me but I suppose I should give him credit for his previous experience!

Luke pulls his ear when he's tired and one does smell more than the other but I wonder if it's just that the pulling produces more wax? I would expect an infection to involve a high temp and significant pain too.

I would have stood up for myself more at 19 than now sassy34264, I was a pretty bolshy(sp) teenager!!!

Seen my friend she is going to be under general anaesthetic and they've said they'll do all they can to save her womb. She can stay up to 10 days with baby even if shes well enough to leave before that. So strange to know the day your baby will be born!

bananacurry · 11/06/2011 21:52

Cinnamon i had also noticed its more when he's tired. I might take him to work & check him myself! Our gps are very antibiotic happy and I don't want him to have them unless very necessary!

I'm with you all on the mil thing! She's got the "i've had 3 children (all over 30) and 6 grandchildren (3 who she doesn't see!)" attitude!

sassy34264 · 11/06/2011 22:10

off to bed now. just had a look back over the threads and realised i missed a few things out!
banana glad you had a nice holiday. im very jealous as i can only dream at the minute.
debs sorry that lucy is ill. ive been lucky so far and apart from a sniffle each when they where newborn, neither of mine have had anything. but reading on here and fb, there does seem to be a lot of ill babies/children about. think mine have been protected by the fact that they go nowhere. Smile Blush hope lucy is better soon.
oh and im due on mine and dp's anniversary banana 26th oct. although when i told him he hadnt got a bleeding clue what the day was! its bloody 9 years this time, its not like its only 1 or 2! ( whats the fecking point emotioncom) Grin

saoirse86 · 12/06/2011 10:06

My MIL has that "I've had 3 children" attitude but she's had no grandchildren and her youngest is 29! Whenever I say Orlaith can't have/do something or how I want to do things with her, MIL always pipes up with the old "it didn't do mine any harm". How do you know? They all have strange issues with food, lack the ability to be affectionate, are quick to get angry about things... these are all things I don't want Orlaith to inherit. And how can it be that they'll accept medicine has changed in the last 29 years but not childcare? Angry

Sorry! Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 12/06/2011 10:20

I am in the process of persuading dh we should see his parents for only the second time this year but he doesn't want to! I think it's sad that the boys don't see much of their other grandparents, although mine make up for it and dss see his mums parents pretty much every weekend he's with her. I know it's hard when they are so troublesome but try to focus on the positives of having grandparents that love and care for Orlaith (even if it's in a way you don't agree with). Or perhaps I should just be happy to have inlaws that are far away Hmm

comixminx · 12/06/2011 12:05

Aphra often rubs her ear but I don't think she has an infection - though I might have a sniff and see if anything smells... She's doing a lot of standing and taking the odd step, but only just starting to cruise really. She grabs for so much that I often do let her have what she grabs for - not knives or forks though! She loves crumpling paper so I give her junk mail or old ATM receipts. I'm sure she does get access to plenty of germs though there are definitely lines I wouldn't cross (pub floors would normally be included).

Patito, I meant to say that I followed the link to your blog - good stuff! Great that it's bilingual too - are you totally bilingual or did you both write the text together? I worked in Madrid for a year and my spanish is good but I know I couldn't write it to that level.

FriggFRIGG · 12/06/2011 18:53

hellooooooo!

what have i missed??Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 12/06/2011 20:37

Teeth, cruising, bum shuffling, cuddles, 'mama', mother in laws, work, illness, holidays, milk, food and poo! How's things with you?

beaditAli · 12/06/2011 20:40

Back from hols yesterday so need to do a monster catch up!!!
Lil man grew 4 top teeth in the week we were away. Poor lil thing but the only time he really made a fuss was during the ceremony at the wedding we were at on Thursday! How bl---y typical!? Hmm

Hope all ok! Going to catch up now..................

FriggFRIGG · 12/06/2011 22:05

Right,wow.
i should read back then....Smile

well,Arlo has two teeth, and two that are BULGING and have been for ages! poor kiddo!
he still sleeps on my lap in the evening,
he says "Dadyda" (No sign of mama though!)
he has finally got into 'real' food, and is now scoffing everything in sight!
he put's his arms up for a cuddle,
he waves hello and goodbye,
he bundles and wrestles his sister to the floor for cuddles and kisses,
he crawls faster than lighting....

and he can WALK!Shock he took 6 steps this evening!!

right off to catch up!

bananacurry · 13/06/2011 09:08

Saoirse exactly! I have to say, my mil is better this time than she was with ds1. I think she's realised that by pushing her views on me its actually not working in her favour but also, I'm a lot more confident around them this time & state what I want & why in a matter of fact, no discussion way. I think I've cracked her, she's always giving me clothes that "I bought but they don't fit!" and when they came back from turkey this time, instead of expecting me to pay for every little thing they brought back for me, she wouldn't accept a penny!

Sassy i've given up on anniversarys! dh is the same. Although I did get him back this year on his birthday, it was while we were awar so he opened cards & pressies before we went. It took me till 10.30am to remember it was his birthday! oops!

Cinnamon I like you're little summary!

Well, my Neice is absolutely beautiful and I'm pleased to say she didn't make me broody at all! We've also been asked to be her Godparents so I'm extra chuffed. She's been given my name & I'm her Godmother. I think that shows my sil likes me!

saoirse86 · 13/06/2011 12:48

banana like you say, your SIL wouldn't do any of that unless she liked you! Smile

frigg walking?! Shock You poor woman! [wunk]

Well my SIL's DP had a pregnancy test this morning (I don't know if it was a HPT or blood test at the hospital) but it was negative. Sad I really want to think it could still be too early but I suppose it's silly to try and have false hope about it. I feel so sorry for them. I don't think DP and I relaise how lucky we are to have had Orlaith so easily.

sassy34264 · 13/06/2011 13:06

hello frigg hope you are well. i think jacob and arlo are at the same point- jacob walked yesterday from middle of living room to couch (about 5-6steps) isobel can do 2 but she falls on the 3rd! much like jacob did up until yesterday. im dreading my clarks shoe bill! chloes are expensive enough.
saoirse so sorry for your sil and her dp. my clock was screaming at me when i turned 35- i read all these stories about fertility dropping drastically at this age and how 1 in 5 even become infertile and i panicked and i already have a child, so cant imagine how awful it must be for those who want one and dont already have one. how many tries do they get?
well ive spent my morning going around a big trade yard, looking at doors, velux windows, hearths etc trying to have everything ready for the builder who starts a week today- gulp. ill have nothing to do in about 3 weeks time and my poor mother will get a rest! Smile

saoirse86 · 13/06/2011 16:13

sassy They paid privately for it so they have to save up for their next try. They can go on the NHS but have to wait 2 years and then only women with fertility problems can get it on the NHS so it would have to be SIL doing it. She's got lots of health problems, is very overweight and would be 40 by then so her chances would be even slimmer! Sad

On a brighter note, 3 walking babies?! Shock I can't believe how soon all this is happening!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/06/2011 17:13

Luke is 9 months today it is all happening very quickly saoirse86, too quickly. I am feeling a bit sad about the next 3 months, summer will be over, my baby will be 1 and my big boy will be at school all day :( need to slow it all down!!!

This will make you laugh, my neighbour just knocked on the door with her dd with a toddler/booster toilet seat on her head! I shouldn't have laughed as it was stuck and she was really crying but it looked so funny Blush. I managed to pull it off, she didn't scream at me as she had been with her mum Grin

It's been raining, windy, cloudy, sunny and really warm here all in one day, very strange. Luke was up at 5.45 today so I'm feeling knackered :(

sassy34264 · 13/06/2011 17:44

saoirse heres hoping they get lucky next time.
cinnamon isobel and jacob are 10 months today, so they are exactly a month older- funny that they will be a whole year ahead in school years though.
well i have heard a few of you talk of the mumsnet curse but i think i am experiencing it myself. and i'm blaming debs Wink
since the poo conversation where i said isobel poos about twice a day, she has done one in nearly every single nappy. definately since fri anyway. she now subsequently has an horrific red private area, im talking red, blistered and bleeding. ive been putting on sudocreme every time but it doesnt seem to be making any difference. has anyone got any better solutions than sudocreme? she's not crying though even when i have to wipe her, but she is a bit nails!

newmum001 · 13/06/2011 19:12

Sassy when grace had nappy rash the HV had a go at me and said I should have got her checked out for a fungal infection and she'd have been given antibiotics but sudocreme cleared it up in about 2 weeks. She wasn't uncomfortable with it so didn't see the need to go to the doctors!

Saoirse really sorry about your SIL's hopefully they'll be successful next time! Also if Orlaith is still stuffy have you tried putting the shower on really hot, on full blast so the bathroom gets really steamy and taking her in for a couple of minutes? Just take her clothes first so she doesn't get too how!

We've had a really shit few days, my uncle died yesterday. He was 87 and has had a really lovely life and we knew it was coming but it's still very sad. DP's step dad was also rushed into hospital in the early hours of saturday morning and his cancer has progressed very quickly. They are making him as comfortable as possible but have said he's only got a matter of weeks left :( MIL is utterly devastated and there is nothing anyone can say or do for her. She's got her sisters with her tonight but I've told DP to be there as much as possible as the thought of her being on her own is just so sad!
