Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SocietyClowns · 11/07/2011 22:12

Rainbow ahem, didn't quite work that way here even though dh spent lots of time with our girls... it took us just three weeks after dd2 was born Grin

SocietyClowns · 11/07/2011 22:16

Anyway, talking of new babies, I have been to a baby group recently where someone brought their two week old new baby along.... I was so incredibly broody I considered taking him home Grin

SocietyClowns · 11/07/2011 22:16

Right, I'll shut up now because I appear to be hogging this thread tonight Blush

rainbowweaver · 12/07/2011 07:02

Ooer, that's disconcerting. We had a breakin a couple of years ago when we wre living in Swindon. The thieves just leaned in via an open top window - they must've been very thin - and unlocked the kitchen door. Yes, we left the key in the door Blush. Snce then haven't felt safe in that old house, luckily we moved.

Hehe, speaking of broodiness. DH says he feels like he's only wanted as a sperm donor whenever I mention we should get "started " so we can produce #2.

SocietyClowns · 12/07/2011 07:56

dd2 is in a bossy mood today! At breakfast she demanded a piece of my bagel by pointing at it and saying 'Bread there. Mine!' Grin Now we have to work on the word 'please'...

SocietyClowns · 12/07/2011 11:10

dd2 is on a roll today. She said two new words over breakfast and I just very distinctly heard her say 'bore da' which is Welsh for er, something ('good day' I think)! I had no idea she is now trilingual.

SocietyClowns · 12/07/2011 11:48

rainbow tell you dh that you only need one (sperm) and not to be so stingy!!! Grin

BigBadBear · 12/07/2011 13:47

I'm losing track of this thread, so I'm marking my spot...

LBH hope you are doing OK. Sleep deprivation is a killer, and you have nothing to be ashamed of in struggling to cope. You have a brave thing in asking for help.

stan hope you are OK too. I hear the first couple of days post-section can be pretty nasty, but FX that you and your new LO are happy and healthy.

mous are you going to the Ambassadros' Party?! (Sorry, it really reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher advert.)

sonces you have my sympathy with HMRC. I found out this morning that the reason they hadn't paid my £5k tax rebate is because they miscalculated. I only found out by phoning them, they hadn't bothered to tell me, though they had previously insisted that the payment had been made to my bank account. Grr.

IC how are enjoying life back in Blighty?

Soc hark at you needing a bedroom lock. No such joy here (though it has been slightly more frequent than rainbow I think). Things had got better, but are not good again - I won't bore you with the details.

DD2 is a bit under the weather again. She's very subdued, and has a slightly runny nose, but that's it really so she's gone to nursery. I'm hoping it's just teeth. The one good thing is that she is sleeping well - around 13 hours a night at the moment. She has started letting go when standing, which is a huge thing for us. She only does it for a couple of seconds and only when she's in the mood, but she's so proud of herself when she does it!

PenguinArmy · 12/07/2011 15:58

A road trip is far too tiring for that kind of thing Wink

LBH Lack of sleep is a killer when you're already at full capacity but huge well done on the making contact. I used to find the hardest part was just saying the first thing, so once you're over that

StoneBaby · 12/07/2011 16:24

LBH I hope you've managed to sleep better.

Nothing here since April 2010, and I don't dare speaking to DH about it as I fear what his answer will be Confused

DS had a sty at the weekend and the chemist recommended to mature it by putting warm compress on it Hmm I bet she doesn't have a child! But it is getting better.

BBB I hope your DD2 will get better soon.

rainbow I would tell the Police about it just in case it is not an isolated incident

BigBadBear · 12/07/2011 16:37

Stone by a bizarre coincidence, I'm currently updating some training materials for pharmacy staff on eye infections and the warm compress treatment is what is recommended for styes. If it doesn't clear up after a few days, you can get some antibacterial eye ointment from the GP. But as it is going down, it sounds OK.

PA nice to hear from you. I'm afraid I never get round to reading your blog, but I hope your road trip is going well.

PenguinArmy · 12/07/2011 16:47

That's fine BBB No offense taken. We're writing it for ourselves, which I'm very glad of. Someone commented that they liked a photo and we'd almost forgotten we'd been there Grin

StoneBaby · 12/07/2011 17:39

BBB it's an odd one! It is reducing so I'm not too concerned for the moment

SocietyClowns · 12/07/2011 18:10

Quick alert: status update on FB from stan! She and baby Atticus are well and happy Smile

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 12/07/2011 18:36

Thanks soc
Congratulations stan! Hope you are both doing well. Is atticus scout father in "how to kill a mocking bird"?

soc I will go on holidays on my own it has always been the plan so my parents can see the girls.

I might go to the embassy, no "ferrero" though Wink and it is a 14th of july ball so really casual, we get to finish the nice food left by the VIP, and then it is yogurts, ice creams and rum ... fun though! a bit like a beach party.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/07/2011 18:50

Huge congrats, Stangirl! And welcome to baby Atticus. What a brilliant name!

Yes, Mous, you're quite right, Atticus is indeed Scout's father in TKAMB....

Gotta go.....

OP posts:
StoneBaby · 12/07/2011 19:07

Congratulations stan

Bearcrumble · 12/07/2011 20:35

Congrats, Stangirl.

BBB Hope DD2 is back to her normal self soon and that it is just teething.

Soc Scary about the potential burglar. I think you did the right thing - hopefully he was just an opportunist and won't be back. Well done on DD's talking - very impressed with stringing words together.

DS slept a bit later this morning - 6.15ish. This felt like a lie-in to me.

We went to this place today www.tdlp.co.uk it was really good and they do very nice food.

^"?Tea Dance for Little People? is the new family dance café opening in Brockley aimed at 0-5 year olds and their carers.

Brockley mum Sally-Anne Donaldson decided to combine her profession as a dancer with her love of coffee and create a space where you can jump on the sofas. This is a café with a difference. Enjoy good food and drink whilst specialist dancers, musicians and artists encourage physical and creative development with your little ones through play, exploration and interaction. The space will surprise you every time you visit.

Nowhere else in London can you get healthy food, good coffee and top quality activity for your children all under the same roof."^

We loved it because so many things for their age group are just full on with loads of toddlers screaming and ride-ons racing around and this was just quieter and more laid back and suited him a lot better. He is ok at the crazy busy toddler groups for about an hour but then he just goes over to the door and needs to get out and be somewhere quieter.

He loves going to our local woods - we went on Sunday and he was happy for ages just sitting on the ground playing with sticks and leaves and his digger while I sat on a fallen down tree trunk and read my kindle.

Yesterday we went over to my neighbour's parent's house (she is housesitting while they are in the States for a month) - they have the loveliest, most massive garden full of fruit and veg and a big lawn and her dad has made a sandpit and a sort of water-play table with bits of hose and bowls set into it and they have a paddling pool. It was idyllic. I was very Envy.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 12/07/2011 20:50

Very Envy BC DD2 loves woods too but it is all about exploring, climbing and running. no time to read my kindle.... gggrrr

It was too hot this week end so I went to a softplay, on the 3rd floor there was a 20cm plank to walk across the void with netting around of course that is where DD2 wanted to go! her legs fell through the netting 1st 2 time and then she got it

SB I hope DS eye is better

soc it was a bit annoying, may be not a thief though.

LBH

Bearcrumble · 12/07/2011 21:04

It's funny, it's the one place where he will sit still - normally he's all over the shop.

AbsB · 12/07/2011 22:06

Hello!!!!!!!!!!! Waving from our new house in Oxfordshire... will post soon... Congrats Stangirl, love the name, it's so sweet! I hope you and baby Atticus are doing well.
I can't even remember the last time I posted but things are a nightmare! Just briefly, and three mortgages later, the day we completed on our house, a planning application went up on a post next door to demolish the pretty cottage and build a HUGE MODERN millionaire's retreat. We have been in a battle ever since and are just completely exhausted... so we are not enjoying rural bliss but fighting with council, lawyers, etc. A complete nightmare... sorry more of a rant than a post but I keep meaning to say hello. Haven't read anything on here since but just saw that Stangirl had had her baby.
Big hugs to all of you!!!

SconesForTea · 13/07/2011 09:10

Abs come back! Tell us more! It sounds horrific. You poor things.

Congratulations Stangirl! Atticus is a lovely name, I'm now mightily jealous I haven't thought if it myself

Bc I am so Envy of you sitting in the woods reading your kindle. Now that sounds idyllic (as does your neighbour's ps' house to be fair).

BBB get well wishes to DD2. And to DS SB.

Mous you must go to the party, it sounds great!

PA I think it's just fab that you've got the energy to write a blog on top of actually doing the road trip! Great memories, good for you.

LBH I can sympathise on the lack of sleep, I have bad insomnia myself at the moment. It makes everything so difficult. I hope that you've heard back from the counsellor.

A question about cleaning LOs' teeth: do you let them do it themselves, or intervene? I've always just let DD have a go but I think she may be getting build-up on her teeth [really bad mummy emoticon] So I've started to brush them for her but it's a screaming battle each time and I wonder if she'll get a phobia about it...

SocietyClowns · 13/07/2011 11:05

Scones my two are allowed to brush their teeth themselves after breakfast (which means chewing on the toothbrush and eathing the toothpaste mainly...) and then I clean their teeth properly at bedtime in the evening and there is no negotiation at that point. They don't like it but have got used to it, give or take the odd struggle.

StoneBaby · 13/07/2011 18:26

My little werewolf was out of his box last night. So because of a bad night (according to our standards) he's gone to bed early tonight.

Full moon is on Friday

SocietyClowns · 13/07/2011 20:34

Waving at everyone.. very tired today because dd1 was up half the night for one reason or another. I think she finds it quite stressful to finish nursery (they took down all art work and sent it home), knowing she'll go into reception in September.
I feel like I have an echo at the moment. dd2 has suddenly turned into a parrot and tries to repeat every last word I say.... Grin Quite amusing to start with but can get a bit annoying as the day goes on... She's also a stickler for routine and instructed dh to put his shoes on first, then kiss us all, then wave bye bye when he went to work this morning Grin. She's turning into little miss bossy.
