is S not keen on spoon-feeding himself either chulita?

He needs around 600mg of calcium at this stage. He'll be getting lots via your bm if he's having enough.

Are you also using supplemented oat milk or similar for making up his food?

One of the best non-dairy sources is blackstrap molasses: 2Tbsp provides 400mg but it tastes gross - you could try baking with it tho, eg in fruit cake.

Tofu is a v good source but are you/S avoiding soya too?

Sesame seeds/tahini are a good source but tahini doesn't taste great unless mixed with something, eg it's in humous. Might be worth making your own humous so you can up the tahini levels. A loves pasta mixed with humous and it sticks to it well without getting slippery. I wonder if you could also try sprinkling sesame seeds on other food?

Quinoa is quite high in calcium (and iron and protein) but it;s not good enough as a main source as he;d have to eat too much of it to make it count (A has flaked quinoa like porridge but obv she spoon-feeds herself that so gets more down)

Many types of green veg is high in calcium but it would be hard for S to eat anywhere near enough and his tummy would be Hell if he did!

Might be an idea to think about a supplement as trying to get enough calcium without milk, soya or spoon-feeding runny foods is going to be tricky!

Evening all,
(Please excuse self indulgent start)
I am in a complete downer, my weight is really getting to me. Despite 3-4 zumba classes a week, loads of walking, chasing after rileigh and generally mum stuff. Apart from the shitty day you read on sunday I have been eating well but according to my scales I have gained a stone Sad. I am going to the doctors tomorrow I really need help! On top of that J and ds are at each others throats. Help please

Mlic well done on W's good night what did dh say about the other house?

[Shock] at you and chu on potential pregnancies have to say I would probs be quite envious too!

Cakes your playroom sounds gorgeous.

Memphis glad you got your keys I ewould have been freaking out

Thanks trudyla didn't think iwas being rotten just have to sort out when.

Woods I'd have said the same as cakes if we don't get it quick the dog steals it

kkfairybrains · 27/04/2011 22:18

aw stac that must really be getting you down :( definately go to the docs as it could be thyroid problem. wrt J and dss boys will be boys but that doesnt really help. no real advise sorry!
very excited that chul and mlic are preggers!! brill news!! Grin

CakeandRoses · 27/04/2011 22:25

i love the fact that chulita and mlic's 'pregnancies' are about now one post away from being announced on facebook [cgrin] despite the fact that chul's dh's swimmers wouldn't have even reached the egg yet!

oh stac, things do sound rough there Sad. def worth going to the docs and getting checked out.

i know you said sunday's food was atypical - what kind of thing would you normally eat?

it sounds as tho you're doing loads of exercise - way more than i do.

OP posts:
malibustac · 27/04/2011 22:33

Thanks kk I do have an underactive thyroid but it was checked recently and they said it was fine but somethings amiss. How's you and lady E?

malibustac · 27/04/2011 22:38

Xpost cakes. Well today I had a sandwixch for lunch a couple of bananas and a sald for dinner. Other days its pasta or meat with veg. Think I need some sort of guidance iyswim

kkfairybrains · 27/04/2011 22:47

You need to eat more stac. Strange but true. 2 Meals a day isn't enough. Do you havr a slimming world class near you? i really think its a great eating plan. Doesn't feel like a diet at all. And if you need any help or advise i can help you.
Madam is good i'm not so good. Currently lying on the couch freezing, aching and even sore skin. Dp is minding me making me comfy and making lemsips. Its even too sore for him to cuddle me!

Awww mlic!! thats crap! have you made up your mind yet about whether you'll go again? absolutely fantastic about W. Sounds like he's really turned a corner.
E was in her cot all night for the second night in a row. 3 dummy runs but not even full on crying and dummy in and straight back down.
Is W mood any better during the day with more sleep?

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/04/2011 08:20

Morning all,

D is getting better and better at night, he didnt wake up til 6:20 and then went back to sleep til 7:45.

I think the bad nights were due to his teeth, his second one is peeping through now.

Im having an Indian head massage this morning! My sister's friend has just qualified and needs clients and its a reduced rate today. Im going to walk there so hopefully Dylan will fall asleep.

Chulita · 28/04/2011 08:34

I'm with mlic on the portion size, I eat reasonably healthily but far, far too much of it. Always eat breakfast too, the longer you go between eating the more your body stores because it thinks it might be starving.

Well done W! That's brilliant :) And E too!

S slept from 11pm til 7am which is really good except the bloody neighbours had a 'rave-up' (as my mum calls them) til 4am so we didn't sleep well at all. I wish I was vindictive cos I would go and ring the bell...

CakeandRoses · 28/04/2011 08:41

oooh lots of sleeping babies except here last night Smile. Actually A wasn't too bad, a few dummy runs (unusual) and anbesol applications but not actually awake for long, it was just she tagged teamed with F so I was woken up every time I'd just got to sleep.

i was going to ask the same as kk re W's crying during the day mlic

meant to reply to you re you laughing about my obsessions - i know, i embarrass myself! I always have to have something i'm obsessed with. i'm just thankful it's not house plants now like once in my 20s Hmm

you ok there melissa? been quiet.

A's currently full on attacking F's baby doll and then laughing manically Hmm. worrying.

in other news, Mr F can finally count to ten - and the right way. So his job options aren't going to be limited to demolition man (was counting 3, 2, 1) or Maths teacher (then was doing 2 x table) after all Wink. Felt like he was never going to get there which was odd as he's known all his colours for ages and knows the names of all the alphabet and for nearly all of them, what the sound is for too, altho I have taught him some odd ones (like O is for Olive and G is for Gruffalo), which probably won't go down well in nursery Grin

dashing round getting the house tidy this morning then meeting a friend and her dd later.

might invite some friends over tonight and we're thinking about going to a local music festival for the day this weekend. i guess we'll need to think about ear plugs for F and A (anyone know about this?)

what plans have you all got today/this weekend/for the royal wedding?

OP posts:
CakeandRoses · 28/04/2011 09:22

sorry stac, i also agree with the others that that doesn't sound enough unless your potions are triple-sized!

re portion size, i guess we're all different as i eat HUGE portions but mainly healthy/lowish calorie stuff as I tend prefer those types of food and I also like to feel properly full after a meal - e.g. I'll easily eat 1.5 big bowls (eg pasta-bowl sized) of pasta, veg, lentils and rice etc. Grown men quail at my portion sizes and not just cos it's rice 'n' lentils Grin

do you drink much in the way of sweet drinks, milky drinks or alcohol? that's a common way for people to take in too many calories without realising. Personally, I stay clear of sweet drinks (except the odd hot chocolate for extra calories since bf) and i think after a while your tastes change and you don't fancy sweet drinks.

also, its worth looking at how often do you have a 'bad' day when you binge/eat lots of crap as people can take in a surprisingly huge amount of calories on these days which cancels out the good work of the rest of the week.

anyway, hope it goes well at docs.

Oh dear god ellie fell off our high bed :( i dozed off and dp was downstairs getting ready for work and she must have just crawled off. She has a huge mark going down one side of her face down her forhead and cheek. God i feel crap :( i know it happens but its still not nice

WhatSheSaid · 28/04/2011 09:52

Don't beat yourself up kk, G has nearly fallen off the bed/sofa so many times since she has become mobile. A actually did roll off the sofa when she was 6 wks old - dh was "looking after her" while I had a sleep - I was distraught. She'll be fine honest.

Royal Wedding is on in the evening here, the wedding service starts at 10pm so quite a few people are having piss-ups parties, bit of an excuse to have a few drinks really. I'm not really into the royal family but I will be switching on to see the dress

Chulita · 28/04/2011 09:59

cake forgot to answer re food ideas, thanks for the suggestions. I've always given S a spoon because I'm more blw than spoon but also wanted to get some stuff down him. Tbh it seems he's just being fussy (at 9 months old [rolls eyes]) because he'll throw oranges/banana/raisins/peas down his gullet but I just can't get him to eat carbs. I make stuff with Nutramigen formula but I'm not sure how long I can keep that in the fridge once made. I've started throwing ground almonds into rice pudding/semolina and even if he doesn't eat it, I think it tastes delicious!

kkfairy I made S headbutt a radiator yesterday while pulling his trousers up as he crawled near it. He's got a HUGE lump on his head now but he forgave me for it. I hope E doesn't have a bruise so you can forget about it quicker :) It certainly does happen!

mlic so glad W is sorting himself out, lovely to have a happy baby!

totally TMI so if you're not interested in 'mucous' don't read on
After assuring DH yesterday that I hadn't had AF and didn't feel remotely fertile, I noticed today a LOT of 'egg white'...hmm.

Wedding plans, DH is on call so he'll probably be in work, I'll have the TV on in the background but other than that it'll be as usual I think. I would have a party (any excuse) but I don't know anyone!

Trudyla · 28/04/2011 10:02

Oh no kk. Poor E and poor you. How high was it? Just remember, sometimes they cry so much because they are shocked more than from pain. I hope she is OK now.

That's great news on W, MLIC.

Wow cake, obviously I have no experience, but I find it very advanced that he can count to 10 already. Well done F.

Stac That really doesn't sound as if you are eating much. I agree with cake about the huge amount of calories on binge days and maybe hidden cals in drinks. I find calorie counting works best for me and I can put all my food and calorie intake neatly on a website to make it all tidy and transparent. It might not suit you though, but I can send you a link if you want.

Well done on all the good nights, DH and Chulita and all. M had a very good night, too and I feel so full of energy, it's great.

We're gonna go to the zoo this afternoon with friends. I'm interested to see how M will react to the animals. She absolutely loves our cat and is fascinated by watching her so I'm hoping it will be a huge success.

I like the idea of A laughing manically cake. She sounds a right character.

Ignores MLIC's cold hearted wedding bashing I'm ridiculously excited about the Royal wedding even though I'm normally not into stuff like that at all. I think distance makes the heart grow fonder and I really want to attend a street party and sip champagne. No such thing here though. DP is completely underwhelmed, so I will be sipping alcohol free champers by myself. Have a BBQ planned with friends on Saturday and meeting some other friends on Sunday for coffee and cake.

Oh and MLIC, I love the idea of prince and princess day in nursery [cblush]

Ah you see the iron falling onto the head of one of my dcs would be a nightmare, that's why I don't do any ironing Wink

CakeandRoses · 28/04/2011 10:30

just a quickie as need to get on but just wanted to say kk Hope E's ok. try not to torture yourself over it - they ALL have an accident or ten two. Its's best to see minor accidents as lessons so you can make sure worse doesn't happen. I still feel awful over Aurelia falling off the table but she wasn't harmed at all and it's just made me more paranoid careful since.

eeeeek chul!!!!

OP posts:
CakeandRoses · 28/04/2011 10:31

yeah - another strike against ironing Grin (hope E is ok tho)

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 28/04/2011 11:05

Thanks ladies. I keep crying thinking if it! She's going to have a black eye i think. Aw well these things happen
trudy dont know hoe high but higher than the average bed. And she knocked a glass money jar in the way down
mlic i'm really really made up for you that william seems so much better. I bet you have a good night tomorrow night as you'll feel calmer

CherryPie3 · 28/04/2011 11:30

Morning ladies, hope you're all well [csmile]

kk - I really hope E is ok, don't be too hard on yourself. C fell of the sofa yesterday, he rolled in his sleep. He yelled of course but he was fine after I bribed him with a hobnob five minutes [cgrin]

I haven't read through the rest of the thread yet but I will, I joined flylady and am slowly working through the 'babysteps' to declutter and chuck everything. Shouldn't need to join a stupid website but I did and it's helping!! I was up before everyone this morning at 7am and by 8am I had:

  • cleaned the bathroom
  • the kitchen
  • vacuumed the living room
  • polished the fireplace, tv/home cinema system/dvd player and stand
  • cleaned the downstairs windows inside and out
  • hung the washing out
  • put another load on
  • fed the kids
  • fed the dog

All whilst dh was in bed.

Having five minutes to myself now so off to make a cuppa and grab a scone then will come back and read up properly.

[csmile]
