Just popping in to say hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I won't ask if Santa was good to you as I know we all have the best ever gift sleeping in their cot.

Well, some of them are sleeping!!! My little angel has had me worn out trying to get her to go to sleep. I'm full of cold too & my sneezing keeps waking her up just as she's nodding off. She has bf lots today which sounds like a growth spurt. My arms are aching & it's going to get worse!!!

I'll try & get us all off to bed now. Does anyone else's dh/dp snore like a bloody Harley Davidson at full throttle??? He can even do it when dd is screaming her lungs out! What is it about men & their ability to sleep so well. I'm soooo of him.

babyonboard · 27/12/2005 22:42

Hello everyone...
hope i am still welcome after my long and unexplained absense..
first things first,
congratulations everyone!
hoorah!
our baby oskar samuel was born on the 28th of november, weighing 6lb 5oz. the first stages of labour lasted around 8 hours and i wasn't even sure that it was it, then it got bad so we dashed to hospital only to be told i wasn't in labour at all..that really p**ed me of as it blodody hurt! my dp went to call my mum who was dissapointed and while he was gone i was examined and told i was 8cm dilated, he came back to find me yelling for the midwife and after 20 minutes of pushing oskar was born. no time for drugs at all..argh!
only problem was a retained placenta but it was a small procedure and i was so happy i didnt caRE...
anyway..i wasn't online for ages as we had a few personal problems then our computer died and as i'm now a busy mummy (my god how great is it ladies!) i couldnt get to an internet cafe.
now everything is back to normal and i will try to skim through and read up on all the excitement of is it isn't it labour pains and birth announcements..
i really felt i'd missed out, and i missed sharing it all with you
also looking forward to having people to blah to about baby concerns etc
hope you are all well and settling into your new family life, can't wait to see your pics!

Welcome back Bob and huge congratulations. Glad all is well as we have been worried.
Welcome to the one-handed typing club

Tessasmum and Ash (7 weeks 1 day and feeding for Britain!)

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 28/12/2005 10:50

Good to hear all is well with you, bob. How about renaming yourself Babyinpram?

BEKsmum · 28/12/2005 11:18

Morning all, welcome back Bob, Congratulations on the birth of Oskar, glad everything went well even if a little faster than you expected.

Like the new name for Bob Karma, very clever!

Well we must have all been busy the thread has been quiet for days. We had a great Xmas, Santa brought us the best present ever (after my boys of course) Ben didn't get up until 9am!!! - what a lie in and Thomas was happy to be put back into bed with us after his 5am feed which kept him quiet too!

Ben was so excited to find his stocking at the end of the the bed that he was literally shaking and all I could hear from his room when he saw it was "Yes, yes, yes" which was fab, not so sure those are words I'll want to hear coming from there when he's a teenager though

He was lovely on Xmas Eve too as he said I had to wait up for Santa to tell him that Thomas had arrived and that he must leave him some presents as well, which I thought was really kind of him.

Needless to say both boys got more toys than you can shake a stick at, but can you guess what Ben thought was the best thing in his stocking? - wait for it............. an orange I just know that when he goes back to school in the new year and they ask him what he got he is going to say this bloody orange and not mention the ton of toys he got too

Right best go as I'm supposed to be laying the carpet in Thomas's room, which is only the size of a postage stamp, which is why we're doing it ourselves. Hope you are all enjoying your Xmas break. Beks

happynovayear · 28/12/2005 11:21

aaahhhhhhhhhhhh BoB, soooooo good to hear from you, we were worried . Looking forward to having you join us again - we've missed your tee hee's. How about trying BoB as your name?

Hope everyone is enjoying the festive break, I feel like I haven't sat down for days, and it's only the three of us!!!

Natalie certainly did well out of Santa, lucky girl . She suddenly seems to have changed, much more child like and less baby like. Her vocal sounds are coming along very well, but her motor skills are a little behind the average. Looking forward to the first giggle, it can't be that far off now as she does it in her sleep.

nova and natalie (10.5wks)

ChaCha · 28/12/2005 11:41

Hi girls,

Hope you're all enjoying the holidays and have had a wonderful Christmas.

BoB - We were worried about you, great to have you back, a belated congratulations are in order then and we look forward to catching up on all your news.

Beks - Sounds like Ben had a great Christmas then and LOL @ the orange. Typical!

Karma - Maybe some ear plugs will work? Mind you, i'd never get any sleep using them worrying about not hearing the LO.

Nova - Great name!

What is everyone doing for the New Year then?

back later, DS woken

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 28/12/2005 12:24

Chacha, I've just posted on your bf thread. Hope it was useful. I wonder if its a boy thing as my ds loved his boobytime a great deal!!

Beksmum, wow, a lie-in! Forgotten what they are. Christmas is truly magical when you've a small child at home. Did you get lots of photos? I've some video footage of ds when he was 3 one xmas & I love watching it. BTW so does he & he's 9 now! We have a good laugh together at him recounting what Santa brought.

Nova, sounds like Nat is coming along nicely. Reading about her development helps us know what to look forward to from our LOs.

Well, I think we've got thrush. I'm going to see the hv this afternoon to discuss it with her. I need her on my side before I see the gp as he may not be aware of the correct protocol for threating it. I've been following a thread on this subject & I've looked on the kellymom.com website so I know what I should be prescribed. Isn't mn wonderful?

karma & ella (5wks)

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 28/12/2005 12:26

oops, treating it

goldenoldie · 28/12/2005 12:49

Good to hear from you BoB.

Feeling knackered after all the festivities. A tad too much champers and Baileys over the last few days - not together in the same glass!

Boys went from 8pm to 3am without a feed yesterday, and then demanded feeds every three hours to make up for it!

Ezra's reflux has got worse and worse. Had to go to GP and get some infant Gaviscon - hope it works.

Missed my post-natal check up, and my diabetes check today - just too knackered. Will re-book soon.

Found a great baby group - run by a couple of speech and language therapists, loads of nice toys, singing time, community midwife pops in for a chat, and, best of all, you can leave baby with nursery nurses and go upstairs for a yoga session, or you can take babies to baby massage. All free - thanks to Surestart.

Love my twins group tho - nice to see what is coming..............

Anyone else found any good groups?

Diege · 28/12/2005 16:41

Just a quick post to wish everyone lots of festive cheer, and to ask if anyone can help with a feeding problem? Libby is a 'lazy' feeder, and will only take 3 ozs or so at each feed (should be 5ish) - not interested in feeds really, and will happily go 5 hours between. Have changed to nmedium flow feeds which has helped a bit, but anyone else experienced this? Also, she will start feeding again after a break when put in car set/chair. I woukdn't personally br too worried as she is ahppy, and very alert, but have one of those health visitors! (she dropped a percentile).
Apart from that, have had a great xmas, and good to hear from BOB - dare I mention the mother in law??

Diege · 28/12/2005 16:43

sorry for very poor typing - meant 'meduium flow teats!!' Fidgety toddler on knee

ChaCha · 28/12/2005 17:34

Hi Golden, Hope the gaviscon works for him. You've got me thinking about groups now, hadn't even gotten round to thinking of any yet.

Karma - Am just popping over to the b/f thread now, I seem to have so many questions at the moment.

Diege - Can't help but lots of festive cheer to you too!

Does anyone actually catch up on sleep when their LO does? I keep meaning to but ending up catching up on chores, seeing visitors, or spending time on the net (minimal time might i add). For someone who used to LOVE sleep it's amazing how little i'm surviving on these days.

happynovayear · 28/12/2005 19:24

Diege - My HV was concerned that Nat had jumped a centile, so I don't think we can win. I'm sure if she's fit and healthy she'll take as much food as she wants, rather than what she 'should' be. If it helps, Natalie takes her bottle over the course of an hour, so she'll take a bit then we'll change her, then she'll take some more, then she'll play, then she might take a bit more. I find that keeping her tanked vup during the day helps her to sleep a bit better at night. She feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, which usually spans 4am-8pm (although she goes back to sleep staight after her early morning ones and we get up about 8.30).

happynovayear · 28/12/2005 20:15

oh - and thats with 5oz feeds Diege.

ChaCha - sleep...hmm..sounds familiar...yep sure I've heard it before...sadly my baby hasn't heard of it yet

Diege · 28/12/2005 20:17

Hi ChaCha and Nova, and thanks for the advice and reassurance! Sometimes take up to hour with feed too, though it's never finished. Does help to change mid-way, but only rewarded by a few more sucks! Actually she was a little better today, but dreading HV visit tommorrow (10am )Oh well, we'll all be worrying about gagging on lumps soon ! Sounds like you have a good routine going there Nova - wish I had been as organised with my first!
LOL Chacha re: sleep. I manage to dose a bit in the evening when she's in bed, before last feed, but never in day as it seems such a waste of precious time to get things done. I wake her at 10.30 for feed, but never know if I should go to bed before this, knowing I'll have to get upin a few hours. End up dosing on sofa and then I can't get my contacts out .

BEKsmum · 28/12/2005 21:20

Ahh sleep, now there's a thing I remember well, but I mustn't complain, Thomas and I had a lay in till 10:30 this morning after his 7:30am feed!!! DH took Ben off to play and have breakfast, so I'm making the most of having him around as i'm finding Thomas very hard work at the moment and don't feel I'm bonding particularly well with him, but that's for another time.
I don't normally sleep when Thomas is sleeping as during the day I am dealing with Ben or catching up with the housework and in the evening it feels like a waste going to sleep only to be woken up again for the next feed. Plus if I slept everynight I'd never speak to dh who has his head buried in the pc from about 10ish onwards!!!

Diege, I was thinking about your feeding issue, have you tried a vari flow teat rather than a number 1 or 2 flow teat? The reason I ask is that a friends little one who was also born in November was told by her hv that because she was sucking so hard at the start of the feed her little girl was wearing herself out, so with a vari flow it means that you can get the first part of the feed out to her quickly, thus getting more into her and then just turn the teat around in her mouth to slow her down once she has had a good part of the bottle - might be worth a try.

Karma you're right Xmas is truely amgical with a little one in the house, we did film Ben opening his presents and his favourite saying at the moment is "It's just what I always wanted"
I did take some photo's but I put two films in to be developed on Christmas Eve thinking I would get some of Thomas for my mum & dad only to find I only had a couple of him on there I just hope I've taken as many on the digital camera as I think I have otherwise I'm going to be gutted as he really has changed a lot in the last couple of weeks. It's true what they say about you taking less ofthe second child.

Right best go as I was only supposed to be checking the local council site for rubbish collection, speak to you all later
Beks

happynovayear · 28/12/2005 21:24

well..as you can probably tell I'm at a bit of a loose end tonight as DH is out watching footie and DD is in bed...

Had a lovely day today, went to Holland Park for a walk and to feed the squirrels. Some of them are really tame and take the nuts from your hands. It was good to get out of the house for a bit, and the snow/sun combi made it look even more beautiful.

Anyone else disappointed with the sales? Admittedly we only went to John Lewis, but it was rubbish. As they said on the radio, remember - it's in the sale because no-one else wanted it!

Also, I got some Huggies due to finally joining the Boots club, and they are rubbish too! Anyone else find that? The free starter kit thing that you get was disappointing too. I did however pick up some half price Molly & Jack clothing whilst I was in there though which I was very happy with.

Can you believe that novadandypowder was already taken on Yahoo!! There is only one!!!!

BoB some of us have joined a yahoo group to share our pictures in private. If you want to join CAT Busy and she will invite you.

Very upset as everyone thinks DD is a boy. The poor little mite looks too much like her dad. I would put her in more dresses but they are so impractical for babies and always end up around her armpits. Will have to get some t-shirts printed with 'I AM A GIRL' on them...

Any news from Londoner? She's not been on for a while did she go away for christmas?

Well, better be off, must try and work out how my new ipod shuffle works.

babyonboard · 28/12/2005 23:39

hi ladies..and any babies peeking over shoulders right now..hehe!
hope you all had a lovely christmas and again, congratulations!
i'm so glad to have read up on all your news (gran is here so i get a bit of time off..teehee)
i missed all of you, hope that isn't sad, but in the last leg of pregnancy and first weeks it would have been so lovely to share it with you and know when and where and how it all happened for you after we went through it all together.
sorry you were worried, i was a bit of a hound on the nov. thread, but then had no chance to get to a computer with all that happened. i missed you all.

oskar is amazing, he's such a content baby. he had lots of hair at birth but its receding now..hehehe
i have benn fomula feeding since we left hospital..hope none of you are the breastfeeding army types! i tried breastfeeding on and off but it wasnt happening and its nice to start regaining my body now...

i will write agian when my brain is working properly..(hehe.)

nova...we sould meet with my lonely cousin and babies in notting hill soon..
golden..bless you..i don't know how you can do it !
chacha..send me some nice recipes for dp to cook..hehe

babyonboard · 28/12/2005 23:46

and as for sleep..
i should be doing that right now but am spending time sending belated xmas emails and pictures...
they say sleep when baby does but maybe thats for people with a nanny cleaner life coach accountant and secretary..hehehehhee

babyonboard · 29/12/2005 00:01

oooh..and one more thing...
we had midwife up to 2 weeks, then our health visitor on day 17, after which she expects me to go out to baby clinic, which is a bus ride and big walk away, between 9 and 10.30 am..
that's such a mission with a baby to actually get both of us dressed and out
is this the case for all of you?

babyonboard · 29/12/2005 00:09

goddam..you know i'm back with the constant p.s 's...heheh
diege..i have the contacts you can keep in constantly for a month..they are the best..i just know thesedays i'd end up sleeping in them and geting them glued to my eyeball if i was wearing normal ones...
don't know if your eyes suit them but if so i really reccomend them

has anyone else not suddenly realised they havent brushed their teeth for two days as you're so busy loking after the tiny mites needs?

Kristingle · 29/12/2005 10:08

Thnaks Nova for the new list. Our baby is Max - after a 10 day flirtation with Alexander. In the end i thought i woudl get fed up contstantly telling people " No its not Alec its Alex!".Also Max is a family name ( and not so popular here as it is in England)

He is doing ok although feeding for hours on end which is very tiring and a bit sore on the nipples. Thought I had thrush yesterday as was getting stabbing pains after feeding so went to get the relevant meds from GP, who was surprisingly well informed!!! Like you Karma, i went expecting to have to argue my case. Now I am nt so sure, but glad to have teh meds anyway as Gps will be closed for 4 days and teh treatment takes so long to help.

Big brother Thomas (19 months) is coping well .Doesnt seem to care about Max BF, even though its only 4 montsh since he was weaned. He DOES mind in a big way though if Daddy picks up teh new baby!!

( sorry typing not improved by BF baby on lap)
