RodeHoHoHo · 22/12/2005 14:19

Just read this and thought you might find it funny cos I did. It was on a thread about controlled crying....

By ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta on Monday, 19 December, 2005 10:13:44 PM

Apart from all the clinical evidence, I have irrefutable anecdotal evidence:

My uncle was brought up Truby King style and left to cry.
My dad (born a few years later, the advice had changed) was brought up Dr. Spock style and picked up.

My dad is a very chilled, pleasant and gentle chap.
My uncle is a miserable old f*cker

goldenoldie · 22/12/2005 15:36

Oh dear - as I can't possibly pick up two at the same time, it looks like I am destined to have at least one misery guts then...............

goldenoldie · 22/12/2005 15:37

Or maybe that example only relates to singletons? - it's just different for twins!

SleighlasandSethsmum · 22/12/2005 16:17

Thanks all of you for your good wishes for Seth. thankfully he is now loads better than he as on monday and definately over the worst of it!

Anyone got nay experience of bronchiolitis? How long are they infectious for and when is it sensible to start taking them out to mix with other kids again? I was guessing that saturday when he'll be 7 days from the first signs of it will be ok for venturing out?

Finally mamged to upload some piccies onto the board. Thanks Cha Cha, Zayn is gorgeous to lovely eyes!!

In fact I think we should all be very proud of the beautiful bundles we've managed to create!!

Must try and wrap some xmas pressies before next feed ( if DD will let me)...

twinkle1 · 22/12/2005 17:17

errr how do i look at the pics?????? I know im having a dense phase!!!

ChaCha · 22/12/2005 19:27

It must be my lucky day!! He slept for three hours this afternoon woke up for a 30minute feed and is asleep again! Yippeee! Just sifted through those freebie bags that you get in hospital (lots of washing tablets, are they trying to tell us something) and spent time on ME for a change instead of worrying about housework. Let's hope this pattern continues into the early hours!

Twinkle - You can view the pics by becoming a member of a yahoo group that Busy has set up. Just CAT her and she will send you an invite to join.

Rodeo - Had to laugh at your 'stimulation conversation'! Can I admit to laughing at your unwrapping pressies to check battery status? You've learned the hard way I see!

JenJam · 22/12/2005 21:27

hi all, BUSY could you invite me to see the piccies/post some piccies - all this chat about gorgeous babies - I wanna see!!!

mum came over to babysit. Came back from the shops to find she had washed my baby's hair and given him all of the breast milk i had left. really. (quite amusing really, before we had a baby she used to come over and clean my toilet..now she has something else to obsess over.) she also suggested i introduce a dummy or 'soother' as she calls it...i'm so tired i let her just to see what would happen and it's like magic!!!!!!!!!! Finn is STILL happily sitting in his bouncy chair thing - sucking away - he's been awake and quiet in it for 2.5 hours total today - i've got loads done AND had my feet up. am now feeling GUILTY and checking on mumsnet that i am not in some way being a bad mummy .... is it okay to give dummies to solely bf babies ??? Am I silencing the poor little person in order to get my own stuff done? shouldn't i be dedicating myself to gazing into his lovely big eyes.

Plse verbally slap me if i'm being silly.

now, could someone tell me how to view the piccies? or do i have to wait to be invited?

hope you are all feeling christmassy

novabrandybutterpowder · 22/12/2005 21:45

You need to CAT busy JenJam and then she can email you an invite to her yahoo group

Rodeo - The Wilkinet is far more comfortable to wear than the Baby Bjorn, just got to get the hang of it so I don't keep squishing her against my chest.

I know what you mean Chacha, I miss DH too . Going to look into babysitters in the new year so that we can go out together.

Find it amazing that DD is 10wks on saturday! She's started to chew both fists, is this just her discovering that she can bring both hands together or the first signs of teething? She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort or off her food, so I'm guessing its the former. It's very cute. I'm a bit worried though that she's forming a strong attachment to a musical bee that we have hanging over her change table. It's guaranteed to make her smile everytime and she can spend ages looking at it.

JenJam · 22/12/2005 22:07

hi nova, yes did cat busy (it prob feels like you are repeating yourself as you did say this was the way to go a few days ago) just did again as wondered if i gave wrong address but don' tthink it will allow you to send a mail if you log in wrong.

yes 10 weeks has flown-and it's mad that Natalie will be 3 months old in a couple of weeks. re: fist eating, finn is doing the same i thought maybe it indicated 'growth spurt?? and hunger'.

there is still no peep from finn with his new dummy. am feeling really very guilty now - he doesn't normal. i've discovered something very very addictive and my evil easy life tendency is gravitating towards it.....

ahh there's a cry he must has spat it out.

JenJam · 22/12/2005 22:18

nova what do you prefer about the wilkenet over the bjorn? i have bjorn and it kills my shouldersg

novabrandybutterpowder · 23/12/2005 09:16

JenJam - I find the same with my shoulders wearing the Baby Bjorn. I've only worn it around the house, but the difference with the Wilkinet was amazing, no pulling on the shoulders at all. It can feel a little tight around the waist for the first 10 mins but that may just be my bad tying. The Baby Bjorn is better for putting on in a hurry though, but the Wilkinet is a lot less bulky and there are no straps hanging off you. It's only £36 (£42 with next day delivery) so I would def. recommend getting one. It also lasts until you physically can't lift them anymore as you can wear it on your back. It also comes in lots of colours, although I went for black!

Think you might be right about the fist chewing - she's always hungry.

IMO go for the easy life

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 23/12/2005 10:41

Morning ladies.

Jenjam, don't feel guilty about the dummy if it makes you & Finn happier. If it makes the very hard job of being a parent easier, go for it, I say!
Nova, I'm very mpressed at your sling use. We've just got a Mothercare one &we've not used it yet. THat info that Paps provided about slings was good, wasn't it?
Sethsmum, glad to hear he's on the mend, it must have been an awful time for you all. Sorry I don't know much about bronchiolitis.
Chacha, lets hope Zayn has discovered a routine that he likes! It's great to get a bit of time to yourself once they're asleep.

Well, last night DP & I went to pub for a Christmas meal & we tried to get Ella fed & off to sleep in her car seat before we went. However, she had other plans! We took her out in the car for 10 mins to get her off to sleep & this lasted until the starter was eaten. She then hollered the place down. Luckily, some of our friends were in too so they jiggled Ella to keep her entertained. I managed to eat the rest of the meal then I brought her home to feed &was planning to take her back to rejoin dp. Again, she had other plans! Needless to say, we didn't get to the pub. I have to admit, the half glass of wine I had made me very sleepy & light-headed so I was secretly glad to stay in. Yes, just half a glass did me in.
Off out to finish xmas shopping. Anyone else still not finished?

ChaCha · 23/12/2005 12:09

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas ladies! Hope you all have a fab holiday!

Was up with the little one from 4-7am. He has been feeding constantly since - no joke. My back is aching, need to find a more comfortable position if i'm to be b/f like this for much longer, I cannot believe that something so small can feed so much! He is milking me dry. When he finally stopped feeding and had a sleep he woke us both up with a fright - the biggest explosion to date! Geeeesh! Where does that come from?

Nova - I'm reading about the Wilkinet and kind of wishing that I'd chosen that one instead. My huggababy arrived this morning - am still trying it out, not sure about it though. Like everything else in this baby business - will perceveire!! Am also planning to get out with DH at some point soon. When we visit the inlaws I think, sometime between now and the new year, then there will be plenty of eager babysitters at hand. Well we can hope!

Explosions happening in the background followed by startled whimpering....best dash.

Happy Christmas to you all ladies.

cpl of tips...

TO VIEW PICTURES-
go onto group, sign in, see rectangle box on lefthandside,7th item down says "photos", click on that, it will then show you a page with everyones albums on.
click on picture or name to view that album,it then comes up with a view of all the pictures in that album, click on the first picture, you can now view them larger, and above the picture is "next" which you can click on to see the next one in the album.

ADDING PHOTOS-
to add pictures to your album, click on your album, at the bottom of the page in blue writing you can "add photo/create album/rearrange" you can click on the appropriate one.
dont worry about the size of your pics as yahoo will automatically re-size them anyway.
after clicking "add photos" then "browse", pick the picture you wish to use, click once, then click "open", this photo will then be uploaded, you then have the choice to add a name/description for the photo.

hth x
will try and check in properly when this constant feeder is asleep for more than 10 mins!- guess what-weve lost a leg for xmas tree, so am sorting through piles of junk in our huge attic trying to find the blooming thing-like looking for a needle in a haystack!..........

Diege · 23/12/2005 15:29

Afternoon everyone! Just back from shops with dd and bubs - a bit mad, but that's the last of the shopping donre.Poor pram nearly had it though 10 times more baggage than baby!Had a good one last night, with Libby going from 11 to 7. She did stir about 3.30 (usual feed time),but just settled herslef back to sleep (and I wasn't going to persuade her otherwise!)Pleased because she had stopped feeding well in the mornings, so may be showing signs of being ready? Not convinced it will last though, as we've been here before! .
Agree Nova and others that bjorn is a bit of a killer on the shoulders! Not too good either when trying to get small change out of your purse on the bus (you can imagine...)

goldenoldie · 23/12/2005 15:30

JenJam - yes dunnies are a help if you have a sucky baby. It certainly helps with the twins as there is always one that has to wait for something, and for me, using a dummy is better than having them scream the house down!

Anyone else watch the baby channel on Sky (channel no:285). Interesting slot today on attachment parenting - I think that is what it was called. Essentially about recognising your babys signals for when they want a wee/poo and not needing nappies (which are not used in most non-western parts of the world anyway). A very (apparently) sane woman, mother of three, was advocating it - saves a fortune in nappies and is good for the planet. It is not for me, but made interesting viewing.

Twins a bit unsettled today. They usually have a kick around and nap after their moring feed, which is when i have my long, hot bath, tidy up, do the laundry, phone calls or whatever needs to be done. They had other plans this morning and started grizzling almost as soon as they finished their feed.

Spent a good hour and half trying to figure out the problem - hungry/dirty nappy/bored/need a cuddle/too hot/too cold, and so on..............

In the end I just decided that nothing was wrong and they were just fussing. Put them down and let them exercise their lungs - loudly in their cot. 10 minutes later both were fast asleep.

Horrible hearing your babies cry tho, but sometimes they just have to get it out of their system.

RodeHoHoHo · 23/12/2005 16:44

Golden - sorry didn't mean to offend anyone with the snippet, it was the calling her uncle a miserable so-and-so that made me laugh. Of course you have to leave them to their own devices just to get things done, so it must be doubly difficult to get things done with twins (obviously), think you've been nominated for the Nov mums 'supermum' anyway

I don't think it's any firm evidence though. My mum sadly had terrible PND after she had me (which she recieved electric shock treatment for) and fully admits she had great difficulty bonding with me. I was also a difficult baby who cried and was sick alot, and I was left to cry alot too (otherwise I think my mum would have gone insane). My sister on the other hand cried a lot less, fed well and my mum didn't get PND (was a bit of a dream baby TBH). Now we're grown up the 3 of us are really really close. Me and my sis are very similar (our voices are the even the same) I think the only difference is she's a travelling type and I'm a homebody! So bit off the subject there but I hope you get my drift!

I saw the nappy-less woman too Golden, she was on This Morning a few months ago! She was very normal though, I expected her to be a nutcase. She was brought up in Africa wasn't she and learnt from the mothers there?

Did my christmas food shopping today, didn't go mad though, just got what was needed! Well done Annie!! Bought the batteries too!

I'm off out with my mum and sis tonight for a nice meal, dp is in charge of the baby! Although he did really well last time, I went out at 7, he fed her and put her n bed at 9 and she didn't wake for me til 3! Only thing he forgot to do was change her nappy and put her in her pyjama's, the poor thing. She got terrible nappy rash and he felt awful! At least he'll remember for tonight!

Right well if I don't get on before Christmas.....

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hope all the babie's have a wonderful 1st Christmas too

JenJam · 24/12/2005 02:18

yay! thanks busy for invite to see the piccies. all your babies are indeed very gorgeous, and your more grown up children too!

it's late so will be back on tomorrow,

before i go i have been using the dummy on and off all day while out and about at the doctors, at the baby clinic and then in mamas and papas where i went to buy a mattress for the cotbed - can conclude that the dummy works, i should not feel guilty - thank you all for making me feel better about using it. I'm being sensible about it though - plan to use it only as a desperate measure, and not every time he whimpers. mum and i had a bit of a row about this point this even, as i wouldn't let her put the dummy in when he was yelling during a nappy change, i feel sorry for him if he is not freely allowed to vent his spleen! but lying on doctors bed having stitches checked counted as emergency situation when dummy helped alot. not sure if this is related but finn was sucking differently on my breast this evening (kind of not latched on properly and up till now have had very few latching probs) so am going to need to keep an eye on this i think.

tis the night before the night before...

are you excited?

novabrandybutterpowder · 24/12/2005 09:34

I'm actually more excited than I have been in previous years, it makes such a difference having a child around .

We got Natalie a silver teething ring from Tiffanys, as it's something useful that she can also keep in her keepsake box.

twinkle1 · 24/12/2005 14:18

Evening girls, just logged on to wish you all a fantastic Christmas.

Have been to visit relatives today and Thomas has yelled constantly, so I'm feeling a bit drained tonight, Ben has been a very good by all day but is completely over excited so hate to think what time he'll get up in the morning!!!

Well my friend has just left and I think I can hear the jingling of sleigh bells so off to sort out the delivery

Love to all especially our babies - enjoy your first christmas little ones! Beks

tessnutsroasting · 24/12/2005 22:56

JenJam · 25/12/2005 06:22

i feel like a kid again. i am all alone downstairs with the treelights on setting a glow around the room
outside, for once, the busy road is silent

i am watching cartoons involving mice, wolves and little piggies.

....and i am aware of a 12 pack of krispy kreme doughnuts sitting all alone in the kitchen

i've half filled the express bottle - as i'll be making champagne milk at lunchtime!

the stockings are filled (we got finn one of those whozit whatsit pram toys)

i have a little angel sleeping upstairs

could life be any better?

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE (this makes me want to sing that song by slade) ...IT'S CHRRRRRRISSSSTMAAAS!

p.s. will post a piccie of the three of us on the yahoo site

JenJam · 25/12/2005 07:21
