ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 17/12/2005 23:44

Where is everyone tonight? Probably all watching X Factor or that dancing thingy.
BAM, I've sent you a CAT so I can join the group.

Well, DP is out with his work colleagues having their Christmas night out. No food. Just alcohol. Anyway, I shall expect him back in a poor state. Guess who's doing the first nappy tomorrow?

goldenoldie · 18/12/2005 09:17

Anyone else addicted to 'deal, no deal'? old Noel Edmonds - makes me feel 12 years old again!..........

twinkle1 · 18/12/2005 11:26

morning all,
how do i view photos's????? whats the CAT thingy?? sorry im having a real dense phase at the min
Karma, expressing milk takes no time its remembering to put pump in the sterilliser!!! the bottles come ready sterilised from the milk bank.I then label them up and stick them in the freezer. Some time soon a midwife should drop by and take them to a collection point for me.It seems like such a small thing to do after you have seen/delivered/worked with premie babies and seen what a struggle it can be for them. And if you express regularly you build up your supply to incoporate the bit u express.
We are having a lazy day baking with kids Im also going to have a go at casting josh's hands and feet today with help from DH should be interesting and alittle messy

LilJ · 18/12/2005 11:30

My current addiction is Weakest Link - I can't believe how stupid some people are and how little money they win in the end. I am shocked at how bad daytime telly is though - I'm going to find other ways to pass the BF time ...

Nathaniel has now slept through the night for two more nights in a row so I'm nicely rested. And I'm beginning to get the hang of the whole BF thing but still topping up which I think may just remain part of the routine. DS has had diarrohea for the past few days which I'm a bit worried about, but midwife is coming over today so I'll talk to her about it - he seems perfectly healthy and happy otherwise.

Have had lots of visitors this weekend with DH in the States - my brother has been staying over and I've had my cousin over on Friday, my best friend over last night and my aunt coming over today to cook a good Sunday lunch, so am handling DH's absence very well, but really looking forward to his return Tuesday morning.

well gotta run as DS is indicating that he might need a good nappy change and my brother is going to learn the fun of changing a baby right now!

goldenoldie · 18/12/2005 13:22

LilJ - I'm impressed your nathaniel is still sleeping through, can we swap? My Nat for yours!

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 18/12/2005 22:07

Bit of a quiet day on here today.

GO, I've just got into Deal or No Deal recently. He hasn't half aged since Swap Shop, hasn't he? Do you remember his hideous sweaters? And those old fashioned phones they used. Were they called Trimphones? I REALLY feel old now.

LilJ, good job you're getting some sleep if Nathaniel has diarrhoea. Sounds like you've got your visitors well trained! You can send your Aunt up to mine, if you like.

Twinkle, I think I might get round to expressing now that I've read your post. Ella sometimes has a short feed & I know there's quite a bit left so that would be a good time to express. I didn't do it at all last time so I'm a complete novice. I've been reading the Expressing Clique thread to pick up a few tips, but I might come to you for advice too, if you don't mind.

Had a traumatic bathtime incident tonight. As I was putting her vest on afterwards, I accidently dragged the 3 poppers down her face & they've left 3 red lines on her forehead. My God, did she scream! I feel terrible. She looks like Voldemort had a field day with her.

Did anyone watch The F Word this week? It was discussed on a thread on MN as it contained a brief mention of BFing in restaurants. It was cited as being a pet hate of restaurant-goers. Have any of you had any problems BFing in public, or had difficulty finding a decent place to feed?

SharonTW · 18/12/2005 22:20

Hi Ladies and babies just a quick hello to let you all know I'm still alive, Sam still feeding every 2 hours and is now 11lb 2 oz !!! Having a problem downstairs too might need my stitches redoing !!!!!!! Find out tomorrow - all I need
Hope you're all well nad happy and hope to catch up soon
lots of love
Sharon and Sam 3weeks +5

tessnutsroasting · 18/12/2005 22:37

Evening all! Trying to persuade baby to fall asleep so thought I would try and catch up - again!

We use a little 5ml syringe to give gripe water (and Calpol) You can get them from the chemist for about 80p. Have only been using half dose, 2.5ml, and it seems to work well, much better burping and very little complaining before he lets rip at the other end now as well

Karma - never had a problem feeding in public, only positive comments (usualy from old ladies!) Then again I haven't had the awful thing where everyone touches your bump either. Being 5'10" may have something to do with it though

Right, off to try and lie this, currently sleeping, baby in his bed. We may be back!!

Kristingle · 19/12/2005 09:02

Morning ladies. Have just come on here to gloat that my clever baby has slept trough the night these last two nights. yes I knwo its jts a new born thing and a fluke but PULLLEEASE let me boast anyway

Kristina - no longer pregnant
Poor nameless baby boy - nearly 7 days old

LilJ · 19/12/2005 09:04

Hi all.

Well I'm feeling very blessed as DS has slept through the night again! I'm wondering how long it will last, but it's been fantastic while DH has been away.

Had a good talk to by midwife yesterday about using a dummy - she told me that I could miss signs of hunger using one, which I find hard to believe as DS is constantly hungry when awake. So yesterday I tried to feed him every time he made any noise and boy do my breasts hurt now! They feel bruised. But it did seem to make him more settled, although I still had to top him up with formula before we went to sleep and didn't completely stop using the dummy.

Does anyone else use a dummy? Or is it a big no no? DS is such a sucky baby that he tends to hold on to my breast without really feeding until he falls asleep, so a dummy seemed the best solution to allow me a bit of time off.

Oh and how do I get to see all the pics of your lovely little ones? And post my own?

J xx

goldenoldie · 19/12/2005 09:27

Advice please ladies - Ezra has bad reflux, sicking up lots of feed after every meal, breast and/or formula. Seems to be worse when we wind him and wonder if it is the jigging around that makes it worse. Should we try not winding him and just sitting him upright in his seat for a bit instead? Have tried gripe water and infacol, helps with the burps but not with the being sick.

Karma - the biggest problem I have is accessing shops/resturants with double buggy. Even award winning, so called, 'child-friendly' places like Giraffe are nearly impossible if you have a double buggy - can't get past the first row of seats. I suppose it is the same for wheel-chair users, now I know what feeling excluded is like................And some of the worst places are public/council building like doctors surgery and libraries which all seem to contain stairs and no ramps/lifts.

Love the F Factor - I would'nt kick Gordon out of bed..............

Thought he was a bit mean getting his kids to eat the turkeys they had kept in the garden.

LilJ - I'm using dummies, but try to avoid using at night as they drive me round the bend when they keep falling out the whole time. Useful for when they both want feeding but I can only do one at a time!

Welcome to this side Kristingle.

ChaCha · 19/12/2005 09:32

Morning everyone,

LilJ - we started using a dummy from around day two! Something that I never thought I'd do but DH insisted that we try it as like yours, ours is a 'sucky baby'. I hardly use it now, my little finger seems to do the trick but it is on standby just in case. As for posting pics, CAT Busy and she will send you an invite to join the group. Once you receive the email you can start posting your pics etc.

Sharon - Hope everything is okay with your stitches. Good to see you post again.

Kristina - Boast all you like!! Can I join you? Baby slept straight through too for the first time, didn't even stir for a feed so had a good few hours - can't say i'm ever really in a deep sleep though, I wake at every little wimper.

On my own today but have a friend's daughter coming round to help me - managed to get showered, dressed and tidy up a bit before DH went out to work so feel that I'm half way there. No doubt will be knackered by the afternoon!

BTW, Boots Olive Oil works wonders!

See you all later

ChaCha · 19/12/2005 09:34

Cross posts Golden - Hope you are well. Loved the pics of the twins - they're just gorgeous. Do not know how you do it!! I'm a bag of nerves going out with just the one at the moment - have worst case scenarios going through my head the minute I get him ready. Hmmm! Any tips?

Enthusia · 19/12/2005 10:50

Morning all.

Things going well here. Dad's gone back to Spain, DH is at work, blokes are fixing roof, I have ab ultra busy day including two friends, shopping, present wrapping and the doctors yet I feel sane and happy!

Sam is definitely fitting into routine now and we do the same things at the same tiome everyday, although we have been able to deviate a little now, so went to an xmas party in London with him last night. He was the star attraction. Was looking around at everyone and wooing all the ladies!!!!!

I have got the hang og the bf in public, just don't ask anyone. To begin with I asked in restaurants and they either said 'no' or were really off with us. Now I just get on with it. Must be doing it quite discreetly though as people come over and have conversations with me whilst I'm doing it and they don't seem to know!!!!! Noone has commented so far!

Has anyone tried using an old infacol bottle for the gripe water. Take the label off, wash it and steralize it and it is then easier to carry it around (no glass bottle) and you have a dropper to feed with.

BAM, did you get my CAT, had some problems doing it!

Right drs calling, back later

Enthusia and Sam 5 weeks ish

novabrandybutterpowder · 19/12/2005 11:04

if you CAT busy she will invite you to join the exclusive members only club for the november ladies. it's a yahoo group, so we can share our pics in private.

jen - Nat nearly strangled me yesterday, swift hit right in the windpipe! and yes i do get clawed/ hit/ headbutted when she's in a tizzy. just have to cut her fingernails every day!

we use a dummy when nat wants to go to sleep, it comforts her, but we don't put it back in when it falls out. otherwise she also gets my little finger but that means i can't do much, and my arm goes to sleep.

well, i'm going to stand up and say nat has no intention of sleeping through the night. we get no more then 3 hours at a time, and she wakes pretty much every hour from 3 onwards. but i'm not going to complain as she goes down well at 8.30 and gives dh and i time out, for which i am entirely grateful. when she does sleep though she's really noisy, esp. after a feed.
