Busyalexsmummy · 16/12/2005 12:10

Enthusia-have you joined our yahoo group yet(sorry, getting muddled as to whos joined or not!) if not, CAT me and I'll invite you in, you can then post pictures on there xx

Diege · 16/12/2005 13:36

Afternoon everyone . Haven't had chance to use computer the last few days, so just catching up. Everyone is fine, and Libby is back to just the one night waking (always 3.30 on the dot!), but for the life of me I can't get back to sleep until 6ish, when everyone wakes up! Pretty frustrating when she is peacefully snoozing in her basket! Fitting in well with her routine now, but agree Elclose that GIna for first timers would be tough - have to say it worked like a dream for me with nos 2 and (touch wood) 3. I think from all our experiences, at the end of the day books are just books, be they GF or BW, and if they work great, if they don't, great too! Have the dreaded injections on MOnday, so maybe I should make the most of a bit of routine for the next few days.
Must start Christmas wrapping this afternoon!!
Love to all,
Diege.

twinkle1 · 16/12/2005 13:48

hi all
Diege know what you mean, every time i open a cupboard it rains unwrapped xmas pressys on me But im so busy with xmas concerts party's etc there just seems to be no time!!! Josh went to the xmas party at toddler group and met santa for the first time!!!! the pics are too cute (but i am biased)

twinkle & Joshua (5 weeks today)

Enthusia · 16/12/2005 13:54

Milk banks???? This is going to sound really stupid, but what do they use the milk for, I mean who does it go to? Good for you though, glad it is going well!!!!!

twinkle1 · 16/12/2005 14:15

hi enthusia,
My milk go's to a central bank in a hospital where it is fed to premature babies who are really sick or who's mums cannot produce enough milk for them.Makes me feel like im doing something usefull
Before you donate they test you for every illness known to man so they know your milk is safe for the babies. But other than that there is nothing to it they even supply all your bottles etc

At last! A moment's silence.

LilJ - I'm sorry to hear about your DH's mother. It's good that you'll have some help/company in his absence though.

Nova - Also sorry to hear about your mum's health. Have you planned to see her over Christmas?

Enthusia - It's a tricky one! Can't offer any advice as I really couldn't say. Do you have to give them an answer now? It's full time right? How do you and DH feel about that? Financially I imagine major relief having another income (that wd be our case anyway) and good to be back at work I guess, however, we both know the workload involved in teaching, not just a 9-5 where when you come home you're done for the day..worth thinking about perhaps. There's so many arguments for and against IMHO, what exactly have they offered you? And are flexi hours an option?

Baby has got really bad wind Was up a lot last night and he has only just gone down after being awake since 10am! Actually he won't go down in cot so is asleep in grandpa's arms. What I'd do on my own I do not know! Admiration emoticon to all those on their own and with other kiddies too!!!!
Any of your babies suffering from wind? And how are you coping? Baby chews my little finger off for a while followed by a mini explosion in his nappy then promptly falls asleep! Lovely.

Can't remember who asked about spots etc.. My little one has some red blotches on his face and has v.dry skin. Does anyone recommend olive oil for dry skin? Feel that even the organics i'm using are just too advanced for his new skin IYSWIM.

My Baby Whisperer book went missing the day I got it, have hunted high and low for it. Very strange indeed, so never got started on that! Have been playing by ear and so far so good.
Baby latched on from day one, I pestered the m/w's non stop after leaving the theatre to make sure i was doing it right and thankfully it all went well. I believe that after a rough pregnancy and a traumatic experience with childbirth something worked out right...at least for now anyway. I will have no qualms with top ups or switching if it causes either of us distress or if i just get too tired. No one should feel guilty. For pete's sake Enthusia, stay off the b/f threads!!! Had a butchers at it last night and is not reading material for those who chose another option! Geeeeh!

Right best go and be a good little wifey while baby is asleep x

tessnutsroasting · 16/12/2005 16:39

Afternoon all! Just trying to catch up again whilst baby asleep and Tessa in front of CBeebies (what would we do without it )

Busy, BEKS and all of you with toddlers have a look at Behaviour/Development - What has been your favourite tamtrum? - sorry, don't know how to do links. It rings SO many bells!

Re routines: I must admit I have tended to go with the flow rather than with any advice from books and it has worked well so far - Tessa worked her own way into a reasonable routine and Ash is doing the same, though he does have to fit in with what's already there a bit more. I once asked my Mum how she coped with a 2 year old (me!) and twins - 'a closed door and a loud radio' was the answer and I can fully appreciate that now

Nova - Mmmmm, port, I LOVE port. I'm with Golden on the bad, drinking bf Mummy front. Far better a relaxed Mummy with the occasional glass in her hand I say!

Enthusia (and anyone else) - AVOID bf threads. You do what works for you and your baby and sod anyone else! I'm sure there is some sound advice out there but I don't do most of what you listed, especially this time round, (really liked the 'try not to do anything else in your day' - with a toddler on the go, I think not!!) Only thing I think I could tick was 'reading whilst feeding' but I don't think they meant Paddington and Bob the Builder did they?

Seems there are a few windy babies on here now. We haven't had it as bad as some of you but used Infacol with Tessa which worked well. However it didn't make much difference with Ash so we are on to the Gripe Water which seems much better. We also use the little finger method ChaCha. And we used olive oil on Tessa's skin - made her smell like salad but helped the dry skin

Right, need to make tea before boobs required again!

Busyalexsmummy · 16/12/2005 16:49

hehe, just added some more pics from this morning, ooooooh he looks soooo cute! hehe

ChaCha · 16/12/2005 16:57

Hi to Tessasmum and Busy.

Just a quickie...a suggested sling for my 2 week old please. Thanks x

Papillon · 16/12/2005 17:12

Chacha this thread about slings might help you
this -

see you had a c-section - me too. rest up as much as can, it helps the healing. get as much help around house as possible so you can rest and concentrate on bf your baby etc. no heavy lifting... over 10 kgs for 6 weeks.

and all the best

goldenoldie · 16/12/2005 20:22

What a bunch of cute babies - just added mine to the Yahoo group.

Kristingle · 16/12/2005 22:24

Hi all

BAM - I tried to CAT you about posting photos on teh yahoo group. But it said they dont have a talk user called busyalexsmummy! Weird! Have you just changed to a Christmas name or soemthing?

Chacha - i also use olive oil for baby's skin.

Twinkle - respect & admiration for the milk donation

Ok - CS questions here - if my baby's head is only 10cm, why is my scar 17 cm long? Is it normal to be bruised all the way across and all the way down to my pelvic bone? Are the sharp stabbing pains on my sides (near the hip bone) from the tubal ligation ?

LIL - so sorry about your DH having to go away. You are very understanding

goldenoldie · 16/12/2005 22:32

Kristingle - I had a cs and I don't/did not have any bruises. Don't and did not have any sharp stabbing pains either.

goldenoldie · 17/12/2005 09:38

Have added my 'double football hold' pic. PS. socks on hands seemed to work better than scratch mitts.

goldenoldie · 17/12/2005 09:39

Morning - where is everyone?

novabrandybutterpowder · 17/12/2005 10:37

Kristina - i think talk names are case sensitive so make sure you spell it with a capital B.

Maybe they have to cut a bit wider to allow room for the surgeons hands/ forceps?

DH is off for two weeks now - hurrah. However, he's out today, tomorrow and monday! Again he did the night shift for one night and this morning I got 'I'm sooo tired' from him - lol.

It always happens, I'm just about to get DD to sleep somewhere other than me for a day nap and she does a big poo which wakes her up (rolls eyes). She's now on the bed in our room and touch wood I might get away with it until her next feed.

twinkle1 · 17/12/2005 10:59

morning all,
KRISTINGLE
Lots of bruising is normal, how much you get depends on how much the surgeon had to pull/push & tug to get babe out, posistion babe was in,and how gentle/violent the surgeon was!! etc. Also if it was emergency c/section they tend to be more violent!!
As for lenghth of incision not just babes head to get out, surgeon has to get hands, retractors, forceps & clamps in there as well!!!and grab hold of the babe which in my experience of working in theatre is not always easy!! even with a c/section they sometimes still have to use forceps to get babe out depending on posistion.
I have had 3 sections and they were all different.Post op is more painful after ligation, you often get refered shoulder pain and sharp pains. You have extra trauma because not only have you had an incision into the uterus but trauma to the tubes (which are very sensetive)It will settle just take it easy, its 5 weeks since mine but i know when i have overdone it remember just cos the outside is healed up the inside takes a lot longer!!
hope this helps
twinkle & joshua

Kristingle · 17/12/2005 11:21

Thanks twinkle - I was thinking I must be a big wimp, as i'm on prescription painkillers and you said you were just on paracetemol by day2.All the pain is high up on the sides, so must be the tubes.Todays MW has just left - she said she had a sterilisation last year and the pain was much worse than her two CS, so that made me feel better too.

I'm following your advice about the arnica cream too.Poor Dh applies it twice a day. Bless....he's been great. If he coudl just do the Bf I woudl be redundant

Actually most of the pain I have is from two badly cracked nipples, but I tend not to worry about that as I've had it befroe and I knwo it will go soon. Whereas i worry about everything with the section as its new to me IYSWIM

Enthusia - hope you are feeling better about the feeding. i knwo I feel guilty about EVERYTHING at this stage. you just want to do your best for your baby and there is always soemone or something that makes you feel you are not....

Kristingle · 17/12/2005 11:25

OOOh Nova - you are so clever - that must have been it as the CAT worked this time. Looking forward to admiring your new babies. Although I know that none of them can possibly be as gorgeous as mine.......

BEKsmum · 17/12/2005 13:52

Afternoon all, haven't really had achance to catch up properly, but hope everyone is ok.

Chacha, once baby is a month old you can give him Gripe Water to help bring up wind, you can also give cooled boiled water on a spoon from any age. The other option is Infacol given before each feed but have found with Thomas that it just seems to make things worse.Hope that helps

Enthusia unfortunately we couldn't afford to go to Spain for the new Year in the end, but Mum and Dad are here for Christas and they have given us £200 so we are going to put it towards flights at the end of January instead. Hope you have a great time though.

Right got to go as have been out all morning at a party with Ben so had best go and take over.

Love to all Beks

Diege · 17/12/2005 15:19

Afternoon all! Not much of interest to report, but have enjoyed reading tips on windy babies, and will try out some of them. I always find it hard to get a burp up in the night, but fine in day? Maybe I don't give it as long ! Am placating toddler at moment with the dreaded felt tips! Fell asleep on sofa last night and slept thorugh 10.30 feed. Woke at 12, fed her, and she didn't wake till 5, so I think 5 hour stretch is becoming the norm. Very greedy though, and want more!!
Chacha:have always found gripe water to be good, though a bit of a faff with the spoon (you can get medisoothers though - dummies which you put medicine in and they suck out - good for calpol too later on, and they also do temperature dummies). Twinkle mentioned another brand of anti-colic drops other than infacol. Began with a 'd', which she says is good? It will come to me later .
Well, looking forward to x-factor final, if we can get them off to bed earlier enough!
Diege.

Diege · 17/12/2005 15:20

D for Dentenox??

ChaCha · 17/12/2005 15:28

Thanks for all the advice re: baby's wind. I really hope it gets better - feel so sorry for him. Thanks to grandpa managing to have a break, baby does not go down at all and only sleeps when being cuddled/held close so between that and the b/f not much time for anything else. Finding it hard that DH is at work from so early until so late and can barely keep his eyes open once home. Can't be easy for him either being away from us for so long but I can't help feeling grumpy when he comes home so late. Only another week of late hours hopefully.

Kristingle - I'm so ignorant don't even know how they get baby out during a c-section. I must read up on the procedure I had some v.sharp pains in my right side about a week after op but they seem to have calmed down now. Hope you're feeling okay now.

Thanks for sling advice too. The link you gave Papillion is great. Think i'm going to opt for the wilkinet. Looks good.

Will post some baby pics on group shortly x

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 17/12/2005 15:31

Hi all.

Kristina, hope you're managing to get plenty of rest. DH sounds very supportive with his arnica applying. How are you managing to keep the other 2 entertained?

Chacha, we have lots of wind in our house too! Although, TBH some of it is from me... I have to wind Ella twice to make sure she gets it all up. Might try the finger-sucking to see if it works. I bought some Colief then discovered it has to be mixed with milk before it's given. I don't have any sterilising equipment or a small container to mix it in so I haven't used it. Might try gripe water once she's a month old.

Enthusia, I take my hat off to you for persevering with the bf with all the problems its thrown at you. Do you think arnica would help the bruising? Also, have you fed Sam lying down in bed yet? That way, his top & bottom lips would be "hitting" a different part of your nipple. It's very comfy feeding in this position, I find. I always fall asleep.

LilJ, oops, I was wondering how you managed it & I think I spoke too soon. Hope Nathaniel settles into a good pattern soon.

Twinkle, Wow, I'm full of admiration for you & your milk donation. How much time does it take up? Do they collect it or do you have to drop it off? We'll have to rename you "Wet Nurse Twinkle" from now on!

Well, it seems my initial thoughts about Ella being a Textbook baby (BW) have had to be reconsidered. She's clearly a Spirited baby instead. I remember Kristina telling me ages ago that one of her LOs kicked a lot in utero & turned out to be a handful. Well, that seems to be the case here! She has been quite inquisitive from a few days old & has a few good chunks of the day awake & looking around. This sounds delightful until it's time to go to sleep. She refuses to go to sleep despite showing all the classic signs according to BW. I'm determined not to feed her to sleep if I can help it but at 3 in the morning you'll try anything. won't you?

Anyone else got a spirited baby & how do you manage?

ChaCha · 17/12/2005 15:54

Hi Karma

Just saw your pics Busy, Golden & Nova. Lovely!!!!!!!
