Well, some are here!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
goldenoldie · 12/12/2005 22:11

Enthusia - good to hear from you. Brilliant weight gain for Sam, my munchkins have only put on 1lb, 8oz in a whole month.

New rug just been christened ny Nathaniel's projectile vomiting - nice.

Busy - the boys kept me on my toes last night too. In the end I let them get it out of their system by howling for a bit, then they had a feed and promptly conked out.

beartime · 12/12/2005 23:43

Enthusia you poor thing, no wonder your nipples were bad if he was feeding that much. Don't you want to just do something to all the people who say 'the only reason for sore nipples is bad positioning' - what rubbish!!!!

Your labour sounds like mine - also 17 hrs, I got stuck at 5-6cm for 7hrs, also ended up in stirrups and also less than 24hrs on the ward (DH was desperate to get me out of there!) but I had loads of stitches! Oh and they did pull mine out - with a ventouse!

JenJam I think I remember reading that bfed babies grow at diff rates. Mines half a pound a week too but I'm happy with that.

Karma you made me feel so much better with your jeans story - I can't get my loosest prepg trousers up much past my knees!

JenJam · 13/12/2005 00:56

chacha what pump are you using?
i find the amount i can express is all over the place. if i do one in the morning i can fill up 150 ml! and if i do an evening one it could be only 20 ml.

apparently if you think about your baby (or other peoples babies? you produce more milkwierd concept dont you think? a bit like 'porn' for breastfeeders!!!! uegh.

also if you can manage it try expressing one boob while you feed your baby with the other...i find hte flow is quit4e good.

enthusia..i now think i have mastitis on the way. went out with some girls on saturday night. got quite tipsy on white wine (i love white wine and abstained for whole pregnancy as it's just too moreish...fell into bed at 11 pm, forgot to express and woke up with boulders on my chest at 3 a.m. next day i pumped and dumped what i thought was the bad stuff and defrosted some more frozen breastmilk. since going through this palarva (sp?) i've got stacks and stacks of milk, breasts feel very heavy. don't thinjk it's a good idea to mess about with the programme just to sort of hang onto a bit of my pre-baby lifestyle...boo

Enthusia · 13/12/2005 10:07

Morning all

Thought I had a bad night when Sam decided not to sleep between 2.30 and 4, but I'll take that back after reading some of your experiences!!!!!!

ChaCha - I use the avent pump and it is brilliant, doesn't hurt a bit. Mind you first time I used it I only got 2fl ozs and was at it for 45mins, next time though I got LOADSSSSSSS. Expressing in the morning is meant to be better apparently!!!!

I too can fit into my prepregnancy jeans, ok they were never a size 10, but I was so proud. Bit of a wobbly jelly like stomach happening at the front, so a bit bumpy, but they did fit. Can't wait to get on my rowing machine and sort that out!!!!!!!!

Beartime, how funny about the labours!!!! JenJam, I really wasn't kidding about pulling him out either. I had a real go at DH for keep on saying I was doing great and he could see the head. I really didn't bloody care at that point. But seeing the photos afterwards I can see why he was so excited!

JenJam, my mastitis came on very quickly. One minute I was BFing normally then my whole breast went red, really hot and I felt freezing. I started shaking and feeling dizzy. DH had to take Sam and I put on 4 jumpers and sat infront of the fire. Tried to BF again but DH was worried about Sam overheating. Then I couldn't stand up. Ended up phoning NHS direct and being sent (3 hours later) to hospital. Mind you the antibiotics kicked in and cleared it up just as quickly as it came. I just have a lumpy bit I need to massage.

As for the nipple, it looks horrible, looks like an open wound but only hurts when I feed, probably not helped by my tensing!!!!!!!!!!

Sam only lost 40g of his birth weight and has shot up since then, he put on a pound last week and one the week before, will see what he is when we go to health visitor on Thursday.

Sam currently has a blocked tear duct, very green eye discharge that has now crept into other eye, took him to Drs and they said just bath it!!!! Anyone else had experience of this?

Haven't taken Sam to bed, just because after reading that bloddy 'baby whisper' book I have this image of him at 15 still there. That women has a lot to answer for in my thought patterns. Both my mum and Dh want to burn the book. Does have some good tips that work though!!!!!!

Is there a thread with all the baby names, birth dates and everything, really want to catch up on everyone and is taking me ages reading threads, need a summary!!!!!

What is everyone doing for Christmas?

Anyone else going to a cranial osteopath, we started two weeks ago and it is brill!!!

Well better go, speak soon.

novabrandybutterpowder · 13/12/2005 10:55

I've heard that breastmilk is good on eye problems, maybe try thst?

I got a lot of useful tips from the baby whisperer, but i don't follow her system to the letter.

Natalie is still not being very forthcoming with her smiles, maybe we just have a very serious baby on our hands..

Rodeo has been compiling a list for us, scroll down and you'll find it. It may just need the last few adding on, but most of us are on there

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 13/12/2005 11:15

Hi all.

Decided that 5am is Ella's "witchy hour". After her feed she struggled for ages with her wind, wouldn't go to sleep, was happily wide awake & looking around the room, needed a nappy change which woke her up even more! Tried a bit of booby to soothe her (I know, I know!)which didn't work. Left her to cry it out in her basket. She wasn't having any of it. Mummy's magic powers not working so Daddy came to the rescue & took her downstairs to sit in a dark room until she fell asleep. I felt a bit of a failure for about 2 mins until I fell asleep myself. Bliss!

Still, not as bad as BAM's Alfie or Beksmum's Thomas. I count my blessings. But it is helpful to know that it's not just your baby that's acting up.

Beartime, just seen a pic of your little cub, he is scrumptious!! What a lot of hair, too!

Jenjam & Chacha, have you seen the thread on expressing? I'll post a link to it for you. It's a long thread but it has lots of helpful info on expressing. I've got a manual Avent pump but I haven't started using it yet. Need to build up a store so that DP can share some feeds.

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 13/12/2005 11:18

Here is that expressing thread link.
here

ChaCha · 13/12/2005 12:19

Morning girls,

I've got the Avent Isis Pump as well. Will take your advice and try either a)Pumping in the morning or b) with baby latched on other boob, hopefully will get more than I did on first try. Was actually contemplating formula for nightfeeds as DH really enjoyed giving him his milk and it gives me a welcome break but I've just read a bit about it and will try to perceivere for just a few more days. Feel a bit like a milking machine at times.

Jenjam - at 'porn' for breastfeeders!! My thoughts exactly!

Well, he slept inbetween us last night from 11pm through until 4.30am. Woke for a feed and went back down until 8am. Was given another feed for which he stayed a whole hour and was then promptly given to grandpa to let me shower/dress/make-up.
He has had terrible wind for the past couple of hours, I've been told to give him a few drops of Infacol before next feed. He was crying so much it actually made me cry and my boob started leaking which i thought odd but read is a reaction to baby crying. He only seems to cry when hungry or when I change his nappy and doesn't last long so was on the phone to m/w straight away..his little legs were all uptight and he was really uncomfortable. M/W suggested a bath and tummy massage but I'm skeptical about bathing him just yet while the stump is still there. I should have asked about that.

For those who have had c-sections - how long till you were out and about pushing pram? I feel ready to go out now (10 days later) although a quick drive to mothercare two days ago left me a bit wobbly.

Oh and Busy, had to laugh at your DP's question. Men!!

ChaCha and Baby Zayn (10 days old)

LilJ · 13/12/2005 13:55

Hi all!

Just a quick post while Nathaniel takes a break from the breast ...

Settling in OK with Nathaniel only waking up a couple of time in the night and being quite good at having a feed and then being put straight back down again. So have been able to get some decent sleep.

Have been having a terrible struggle keeping him fed though (he's a BIG baby) so have been topping him up with formula once or twice a day. Was feeling terrible about it at first and felt like a failure, but have realized that I can only try my best and breast feeding may not work out. Tomorrow I'm going to start trying the Gina Ford routine and start expressing and see how that goes.

Well I'm going to try and take a shower now that he's fast asleep again - he just woke up from a 4 hour nap and that's only because I woke him up. Somehow I don't think this bodes well for tonight ...

Hello - not sure whether or not I count for this thread? Am new to MN - only joined the other day - but am finding it a godsend, people to "chat" to whilst ds is sleeping - hoorah, another housework avoidance technique - am great at finding these!
Having not been on here much, was trying to find where exactly to fit....Had ds 2 and a bit weeks ago on 25th November - does this mean I qualify for this thread, or should I buzz off somewhere else?

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 13/12/2005 15:43

Welcome, browniechick! We're happy to have another mum on board. I've only been on MN since September but I was made to feel very welcome. They're all a great bunch. BTW, our final Nov lady was induced yesterday so we should all be complete by now. If you scroll back you'll find a list of Mums & baby's birth dates compiled by Rodeo1, or Rodehoho as she's known for Christmas. Tell us about your little one.

goldenoldie · 13/12/2005 15:54

ChaCha - re: c-section, I was out and about within a couple of days, pushing pram and loading up at Sainsburys, but that is just me - fast healer.

Jen - I've got a dual electric breast pump, that is still in the box! I need motivation to use it, I'll have to get you to pop round and help me give it a go.

Hello LilJ - it's funny how much newborns sleep. I'm looking forward to my two being a bit more active.

Enthusia - My Ezra had a yellow discharge/gungy eye. My HV said breast milk, but I wanted to clear it up quickly, before Nathaniel got it too, and got some antibiotic cream from GP. It went in 48 hrs.

Welcome Brownie.

Nova/Jen/LilJ - are we meeting up for lunch again before Christmas?

novabrandybutterpowder · 13/12/2005 16:37

Welcome Brownie, we're a friendly bunch here, the only problem you might have is keeping up with all the chatter!

Golden - this week is out for me, but may be able to do tues or thurs next week, without DD as DH is off work

Got some samples of re-usables today, totsbots, motherease, imsie vimsie, and bumkins. Quite looking forward to trying them, got some very helpful advice from the staff at Green baby.

goldenoldie · 13/12/2005 17:26

Nova - you must bring DD!

Diege · 13/12/2005 19:53

Just a quicky as she's screaming! Had a great time with Twinkle today in manchester - Joshua is gorgeous, the spit of his mum . BTW Twinkle, ended up having to get off tram in Mosely st.?, and walk to next stop - how could I have got it wrong??!! Also, had panic with lift getting back up to main station? Can you empathise or just me this time . Will keep quiet about the tram door experience . Hope you got back OK, and look forward to doing it again soon.
BAM: lol re: black and white top! I actually liked the look of one in DPs, but was also put off by non-flattering stripes - have to say I didn't think about baby visuals! Hope you have a better night tonight!
Good luck LILJ with the Gina Ford - Libby is doing well on it (she says as she tries to ignore screaming baby!. Better go and investigate!
Diege.

browniechick · 13/12/2005 21:13

Thanks for the welcome - I hope I can keep up with the chatter, it has been keeping me occupied for much of the day when ds is asleep.
DS - Thomas Henry, was born on 25-11-05 and weighed a healthy 7lb 11½ oz. He is now just over 2 weeks old, and we haven't got into any form of routine at all yet - just when we think we may have it sussed, another sleepless night brings me back to my senses!
He seems to be guzzling milk down like there's no tomorrow - didn't attempt to bf - whole idea sent shivers down my spine - so opted for formula from the beginning.
Not sure what else to say really - stitches were a nightmare in the beginning - but all seem better now. Bleeding is slowing down, but having read some of the earlier postings - this may catch me out and all start up again!
Hope to speak to you all soon.
Just about to watch the second part of Secret Smile - and it is confusing me already!

Busyalexsmummy · 14/12/2005 07:06

Morning, not a bad night last night, ended up sleeping with him tucked down inside my Pj top for the first half of the night, but managed to get him back in his cot after the 2am feed-yay!!
His vtech sweet dreams activity cot light arrived yesterday, he loves it, and it provides just enough light to feed him-think that was what the problem was, the lamp is too bright so he wakes up fully and thats why i cant get him back to sleep!

nova & chacha, got your CATS and have invited

not up to much today, did about 6 loads of washing yesterday as I didnt do any for 2 days and it piled up quicker than i could say washing powder, have caught up again now, so will try really hard to do at least 1 load a day to keep on top of it!
hopefully get round to mopping the floors as they havent been done since the wednesday before Alfie was born

will check in later x L

goldenoldie · 14/12/2005 08:35

Busy - glad I'm not the only one who seems to have the washing machine continously on. If I miss a day, it looks like I'm running an industrial laundry service.................

Busyalexsmummy · 14/12/2005 08:38

hehehe

Diege · 14/12/2005 09:53

Morning everyone!
Welcome Brownie ; LOL re: 'Secret Smile' - thank goodness for the 'explanation' at end!
Hello Bam and Golden - our washing machine broke a few weeks ago, and I felt like crying! Still haven't got to bottom of washing basket since last Easter - no chance now, I might as well just chuck it out!
Odd night last night; bubs woke at 5, but had been crying non-stop from 8 till 11, so only slept longer because she was worn out! Hmm, think I prefer 3 oclock waking as at least I can get back to sleep again. Feel mean doing controlled vrying just yet re: evenings crying, so ended up taking her downstairs, but then she was wide awake? Not used to evening crying (I..am..a...Gina...robot...), so any advice would be appreciated!

Kristingle · 14/12/2005 10:47

Hi just a quick email to say I had a baby boy on Modday 4pm by CS. I had gone in first thing to be induced but consultant was concerend about big baby, post dates and the problems with induction last time. So recommneded Cs. i was a bit upset but thought elective preferable to emergency.

Had to wait in queue for theatre but it all went smoothly. baby was 9lb 11oz doenst have a name yet. Came home last night (Tuesday) as antenatal care was terrible and have lots of help at home. baby feeding well. I'm still a bit shocked

Will catch up with all your nrews later

Londoner · 14/12/2005 11:41

WOW Kristingle!

??????????????CONGRATULATIONS!???????????????????

You said you thought you were having a boy the other day!
Well done you, what lovely news. Look forward to hearing all about him. Hope you're feeling better, less shocked, v.soon, sounds like you're being looked after really well at home.

Welcome browniechick!

Busyalexsmummy · 14/12/2005 12:06

kristina-CONGRATULATIONS, Im so pleased its finally over for you after such a long wait!
9lb 11oz-wow!!!! well done you!!
I hope you feel less shocked soon and I look forward to chatting to you when your feeling more human!

LilJ · 14/12/2005 12:14

Congratulations Kristingle!!! Wow what a big baby boy! Look forward to hearing all about him once you're feeling less over-whelmed.

Nathaniel slept for 6 hours straight last night which i didn't know if I should worry about or not, but he's now been awake all morning so maybe he's just going to be one of those babies that has a few long naps rather than lots of little ones. Was going to try to start Gina Ford today, but tried expressing and got nothing so gave up trying to set a routine by 7:15 am! Maybe next week ... or next month ...

Feeling a lot more in control of things today and begining to really enjoy this motherhood lark!

GoldenOldie, Nova & JenJam - would love to meet up some time soon, but probably can't do anything until New Year with relatives beginning to descend on us. Can't wait to meet your little ones!

J xx
