Or maybe piddling whilst giggling is just me? Blush
It's so sunny here I feel Spring has sprung - where's that daffodil emoticon gone? Had a friend round this morning for a natter and cake - muchos snot and tears but all good. Think I might go for a little bike ride now to blow the cobwebs away.
And no vag - not a chance!

Decamped not revamped!

LadyThompson · 11/05/2011 11:52

AH, JJ, so glad you are sounding more chipper. At least DD1 KNOWS she was being naughty.

Arti, I'm not on Metformin at the moment as I have to come off it when I'm pregnant and I haven't gone back on it this time. I do need to go back to the endo though. I am amazed that my diet sounds extreme as it's typical of what I have been eating for months (barring the occasional lunch or dinner out). I don't eat sweet stuff cos I'm not into it and don't drink every evening, perhaps 3 out of 7...I am going to start keeping a food diary, recording every morsel that passes my lips. But a disgusting pig is exactly how I feel. I am a size 14 at the moment, though I do have some 12s but I suppose they must be big ones. I get despondent when I see how everyone manages to lose their baby weight apart from me. I scarcely put any on with DD2, it's what's there from DD1. Anyway...dull I know.

Yes, I agree that The Apprentice is not a good (or probably accurate) advert for business. I thought there were a couple of sensible ones. I find the women worse, I don't know why. I guess they feel they have to be extra aggressive to prove themselves.

Mom, DD2 keeps getting flare ups of eczema and as you know she is ff. The GP said she would only give something stronger if it was getting scabby, but just to bath a lot and moisturise...Hmmm. The flare ups don't seem to have a pattern to them (not one I have worked out anyway).

Spot, an airing cupboard - er...well, it's a cupboard, often containing the immersion heater, where people often seem to store towels Grin At least, that was how it was in the house I grew up in.

Jolly, that hymn's a real belter. Lots of singing goes on here. I have taught DD1 'Land of the Silver Birch' (one for you, Mom!) The words sound so funny in her baby voice, especially "High on a rocky ledge, I'll build a wigwam..."

Oh yikes, look at the time. Must hop. Hope your DS is feeling better, Trudy.

JamInMyWellies · 11/05/2011 12:22

No time no time, just a quick dash on.

JJ big hugs advice given already fantastic. Chin up my love only another 16-18yrs before they leave home. Grin

LAdy I saw mention of what you eat. My god woman that sounds terribly restrictive and tiny. You must eat more!

Right off to pick up the monsters who this morning as we were about to walk out the door dropped a china soap dispenser all over the toilet floor. When I say they both dropped it obvuiously I mean Knife boy (thanks Rubes). Actually need advice on a strange skin thing on him will be back later.

Right must dash.

JamInMyWellies · 11/05/2011 12:24

Oh and Effie sorry for being so rude did get your text forgot to respond defo up for some new park action. Maybe next wk?

MomOrMum · 11/05/2011 13:00

Love 'land of the silver birch'!

Thanks all re: eczema. I hope you're right as cheese and pastries are dietary staples for me! It already looks heaps better after two applications of steroid cream.

Very bad morning here with lots of screaming from both DSs culminating in me dropping DS1 at childminder with him howling and holding onto my leg and me pretty much telling them both to shut up. Feeling better now after a nap with DS2. Think I will collect DS1 early, poor chap. He was crying saying "I'm shy Mummy" and I just dumped him anyway.

Must run and try to unload the dishwasher which I've been trying to do since yesterday. My house is a tip!

Will definitely be watching Apprentice but had to record it as it was on at the CRAZY late hour of 9 pm.

LadyThompson · 11/05/2011 13:17

Well, you always pop into my mind, Mom, when I sing it as you are the only Canadian I know!

Urbane, I am glad things are looking calmer with the new niece. How are you feeling at the mo?

To those of you with two DCs, are most of you sticking at two? Like I have said on many occasions there are so many compelling and sensible reasons why we should stick at two, and we probably will, but I do slightly worry about regretting it. Mind you, most of you are younger than me so have more time. Quite apart from affording it and the practicalities (BIG reasons) I worry about being older, about the recovery (heavens, 'twas ghastly enough after that second section) and those early gruelling months after. Anyway, it is extremely likely we won't have any more but I am curious as to what others think (I know Rubes, DB, Vag, JJ and Summer are decided)...

Beans33 · 11/05/2011 13:23

Lady - I'm a size 14 with the odd size 12 that I squeeze myself into (that look a bit strained across the crotch and bum!) and I actually have come to realise that I look ok like this. I used to have massive issues with my weight with bulimia and crash diets and general body abuse (factor in a fair amount of cocaine in my 20s, which I thoroughly enjoyed but half of that was because it surpressed my appetite) and I know DH does prefer me slimmer, but the honest truth is, I am a comfortable size 14. I'd LOVE to be a 12, but I'm not. And if I dress well, I think I look good like this. My theory is, I can't see my arse, so who cares? My gut is grim, but it's been jolly useful for carrying two babies in and that's what Spanx are for. Plus, really, who cares what everyone else thinks? You are gorgeous. I look at pics of you on FB and you always look like a yummy mummy and I would love to scrub up so well on a daily basis. I spend most of my days looking wretched with sick or snot on me - usually the children's, sometimes my own!! When I do make an effort, I think I can look absolutely lovely. But a few years ago, I'd have been horrified at my size now and thought I could only look good if I weighed 10 stone or under. I'm now just under 11 stone and I like myself. Finally. Plus DH still wants to shag me, and that's the only person I care about shagging me, so bugger it.

I didn't eat the second Magnum, by the way!

JJ - do they ever know how to push buttons? I feel terrible as I sometimes want to hit DD1 so much, it's depressing! BUT I love the idea of bursting into a strong song - I think I might do Jerusalem as my way of letting off steam! Or No Limits by that group No Limits!!! Hee hee! No no, no no no no, no no no no, no no there's no limits! Count em - that's the right number of Nos, I think!

Spot - I did snirt at the thought of you weeing during your star jumps. My friend did the same the other day when she did some skipping. I have decided not to try it! Just in case. You know, I do sometimes slip a bit out when I sneeze... Today, though, I can't stop pooing. Quite extraordinary. I think I'm making room for that 2nd magnum....

Ooh ooh, boring potty training - DD1 managed not to do any wees in her knickers at nursery yesterday, but did crap in her pants. Quelle surprise. I did tell her again to do her poos in a potty, but she said "No no, in my pants, Mummy", like I was some thick idiot. Think it could be a while before I cure this one!

Went to see a friend with her 3 week old baby this morning and the maternity nurse I had with DD1 was there! Was so nice to see her and I had a good old gossip with them both. Very good fun indeed!

xx

Beans33 · 11/05/2011 13:30

Lady - cross posted with you... re 2 DCs... I think we've decided to stick with 2. I certainly only wanted 2 until we looked at our finances and decided we couldn't afford 3, so should stick with 2 - of course with reverse psychology - and probably because DD2 is so gorgeous at the moment - I now want a 3rd one. I don't think we will though and I will always feel a bit sad about it, because I love being pregnant and I'm good at giving birth - the only thing I've ever been better at than my sisters! And I love being a Mum too. But two is good. DH and I can look after one child each, we don't need a 5 bedroom house or a mahoosive car and it's cheaper all round. BUT we're both one of three kids and we'd both love a third in some ways. V hard, but think we're coming to terms with just 2. And they are a lovely pair!!

LadyThompson · 11/05/2011 13:56

That has made me feel better, Beans. I am amazed that you are a 14 because I would have guessed that you were easily a 12. I think you look great. The weight on me I don't think I carry so well! I wish I could be happy this size but I just want to be a 10 again. It is slightly shocking how much it bothers me. It actually makes me want to socialise less, which I realise is nuts, and as I said before, I have never been a particularly paranoid person but I do feel like people might be judging me or think I have let myself go! If I didn't make an effort with make up and so on I could get quite depressed about it. I feel clapped out and out of things but that is about more than being fatter than I used to be, it's partly about not being at work or living in London. But that makes it sounds like I regret having the DDs, which I definitely do not. And although it's a bit isolating and hard work sometimes, I do genuinely enjoy being at home with them, as well.

I am just being a bit self-pitying and shallow tbh. Which is stupid cos I am really lucky in loads of ways so I need to get off my arse and get more on top of everything and try harder! DP still finds me attractive but he has his own terrible relationship with food/weight to contend with. Rather pathetically, I miss compliments and appreciation (nothing more!) from other men which is a little shameful at any age but particularly so when one is a 39 yr old mother of two....

LadyThompson · 11/05/2011 14:01

X-posted again! I think you have it on the nail about the reverse psychology - I do think it's partly because we aren't going to have one that it becomes immediately appealing and, also, like you, I find my DD2 to be such a smasher. But yes - the 5 bedroom house/massive car/restrictions on overseas travel/secondary school fees...and just the having less time for the two we have already got. Ho hum.

Artichokes · 11/05/2011 14:05

V quick as I am catching-up while eating a sandwich at my desk and I am HUGELY busy and there is no excuse for being on MN at all (except that it is a fab procrastination tool!).

Lady, re two children, I too worry I will regret not having a third. And I love the idea of three older kids bustling around a busy house. But my attention is stretched thin as it is, and I suffered with a very bad temper when I had two real littles, and I hate being pregnant, and we can't afford to keep paying a nanny (we are going to limp on paying her until DD2 gets a full time nursery place). So really it would be stupid to have number three but somehow that never 100% convinces me. The other night I was watching a scene of a big happy family with lots of kids joking around and generally looking very close and warm and I practically chucked the condoms and jumped on DH then and there. It would be crazy though... Not much help am I?

Spot, I am with you on the star jumps, another reason not to have number three!

LadyThompson · 11/05/2011 14:20

I know, Arti, I always think of jolly family Christmasses with three kids, which just has to be the most illogical reasoning of all time Grin As you know, my Mum had ten sisters (nine of which are still living). Now, that IS too many...

Beans, I meant to say, you have done brilliantly to overcome all those issues and be on an even keel now.

MomOrMum · 11/05/2011 14:58

Come and hang out with DS2 today and it would curb your urge for 3 in an instant! He's doing my nut in today!

MomOrMum · 11/05/2011 15:11

Spot, did you say that it will just be you and DS2 for the meet up? Trying to decide if I should bring both boys. Just checked trains and it is an easy 15 min bus and 1 hour train with easy change, so it may be possible to bring both.

TrudyVotion · 11/05/2011 16:56

If star jumps cause you a problem I caution against a trampoline - even with a pre-bounce visit to the loo I always ended up wetting myself to some extent Blush

DS is our second child, DH's fourth, and definitely the last for both of us. At first DH didn't want a second child as he's a very involved dad and felt he couldn't stretch himself far enough to be a good father to a fourth child. Each skid has lived with us since turning 11 - no grand plan, that's just the way things worked out with their mother's life. I accepted it but I was raw with resentment as it felt like the price I had to pay for "taking on" the skids (dreadful phrase but who actively wants that set up?). I went through the usual mill of feelings you have when you want another ut aren't allowed, until one day, out of the blue, DH changed his mind. I was 36 by then and had two mcs before we conceived Max but we got there in the end. I don't do newborn very well and ended up with anxiety attacks and so on, although they went after six weeks or so and I didn't have them before or since. Max has been harder work in so many ways - he still wakes at night several times a week and I feel so much older and more tired than I did with DD. I love the romantic idea of having a tribe of delightful children at my feet, but no way do I actually want more children. I'm too selfish, too stressy and just too OLD! It's bad enough with six of us in the house and affording it all - the prospect of seven or more brings me out in a cold sweat.

DeidreBarlow · 11/05/2011 19:50

I'm bloody knackered, we are going away for a couple of days tomorrow (in tent - pray for good weather) and I've only just sat down since I finished work at 2.30pm. Why am I not a size 8! Beans I have only seen you in photos but I would have said you were smaller than a 14, as I'm a 14 and I look much lardier than you.

More Apprentice tonight woo-hoo!

Mom are the DC's in bed now, I hope your day got better.

Vag, great time on your 5K. I'd love to be able to get near 30 mins but I'm trying to focus on distance at the mo soI'm not as bothered about time iyswim. When is your min-tri btw?

Lady I have to say your comment about getting a flattering comment or two struck a chord with me. I'm no supermodel but back in my thinner days I feel I occasionally turned a head. Would be so nice to feel that confident again, now I just shuffle along behind my slimmer friends.

ZuleikaJambiere · 11/05/2011 20:23

Suddenly there's loads of chat again, it's lovely. But hard to catch up, like Deids says, RL gets in the way!

Blimey Beans, I can't believe the fun at your house at the weekend! What an amazing and equally terrifying situation to be in. It's a shame that the baby wasn't a boy, as he could have been called John or Lewis in honour of your towel! Was it your friends first? Because I've been lurking and reading in a random order, I thought Vaj's question last night, asking whether you ate it, was about the placenta Hmm. Was v relieved she was talking about ice cream!

And congrats to Urbs for your new niece, she sounds to be doing well. I hope she's home very soon. BTW, I smiled at your worries about DS arranging his toys in colour order as I was the exact opposite and thrilled when DD did that and showed it off to everyone, a little OTT I think!

Did T do ok in the big bed Spot? Enjoy your holiday

Hurrah for sleeping through Rubes. I remember we got there at 9 months too, DD was finally crawling and I think tiring herself out. Long may it continue

Princess Colin Grin, love it Poison. Not quite as good as that, but DD has started calling DH "Daddy Smith", not sure where she got that from but it seems to raise a few eyebrows among those who know what our surname is when she shouts it in public!

Those canoes sound ace Vaj. I'm a water baby and love stuff like that, but DH is adamant he can't swim. I suspect if I chucked him in a swimming pool he'd manage it rather than drown but he says he'd drown. I wonder how far he'd go to prove me wrong Grin

LadyT I was overjoyed to see your prompt that the wonderful Chris and Pui are back (actually I worried myself how excited I was, must get out more). Please don't be so harsh on yourself, as others have said, the first thing that strikes me about you is your beautiful face and super glam clothes, plus I must admit to a bit of cleavage envy. I'm with you on secretly missing the odd compliment though Grin

Does anyone have our baby list they could repost? I thought Trudy would like to see it and add herself to it, and I always love an emotional trip down memory lane

Trace are you back doing your full hours at work now? Have you settled back in now?

I saw a scaremongering report in the news last week, of the type that I normally ignore, about toddlers who still have milk at bedtime being obese. I don't for a minute believe it, but it did get me thinking about whether DD needs any milk before bed. I've just never thought not to give her some. Is anyone else still giving milk at bedtime?

Ok, I'm going to post this and stop faffing with my phone, and fire up the laptop instead. Much easier. Back later

JollyBear · 11/05/2011 20:33

Hello,

urbane I've emailed you with a ramble about premature babies! I couldn't PM it for some reason, most odd. Hope it is useful.

jam Sorry you asked about the P&T. I'm finding it fantastic thanks! A bit heavy going up the massive hill we have foolishly moved to but that is down to DD1 I think! I'd recommend one to anyone who has to walk a lot with two. I'd never have managed without it.

ZJ My parcel containing kenwood bits arrived today. Thanks so much! When I posted about my missing items I never expected any of you to say you had a cupboard with spare kenwood attachments in. Another reason to love this thread!!

Welcome trudy nice to have another person on board.

beans What a lovely post about being happy the way you are. Good on you!

ladyT I'm sure no one thinks you have let yourself go at all, in your post-CS photo you look more glam than I do in everyday life! I think your diet sounds tiny too, maybe avo is right on the PCOS thing, or your body thinks it is starving and is holding onto the calories.

deids I'm sure you turn heads just as much now with more junk in your trunk Wink.

On the number of children front, I've always had a hankering for three (being from 3 myself) but no way after this last pregnancy. I had about 5 minutes between the end of hyperemesis and the start of pre-eclapmsia when I felt ok!! I couldn't risk another early baby, I feel like I've aged about 5 years in 5 months.

vagolaJahooli · 11/05/2011 20:45

JJ you seriously want to be me? I have to call my son biscuit to get his attention, and I wore my top inside all afternoon today whilst out & about. Also managed to up end DS2's curry while I was setting it down. It somehow went all over the table though it was only an inch above the surface.

Lady I think you think you don't carry the weight well because you are not used to seeing yourself like that. When I'm not looking at myself in a mirror I always assume I look like I used to when I was thinner. Then I catch a glimpse of myself in a shop window or try on some clothes and get quite a shock. I have almost gotten back to the weight I was before DS2 but that was 13 kg over the weight I was before DS1 and still 8 kg above the lowest I got down to between DS1 & 2. I have to admit that I do like my curves now. I had no hips or boobs before getting pregnant and while I don't like the wobbly bits I do like having curves.

I think I will regret not having a third, but I think for our family two is right, and I can't bare the thought of DH regretting having a third if I pushed him for one. Like Jam I think I'm quite good a birthing and would quite like to perfect my technique, but mostly I just think we make gorgeous children, is that really shallow.

I'm shattered too DB, and also going camping this weekend.

vagolaJahooli · 11/05/2011 20:59

Oh I missed those last two posts.

ZJ DS2 still has a feed at bedtime and DS1 still has a drink of milk before bed. I thought it was specifically from a bottle and was more about giving a toddler a full bottle and it glugging it down even though it maybe didn't want it all.

Urbs forgot to say on the line up fronts, DS1 used to line his cars up according to colour, then graduated to lining up his animal toys according to species Hmm

TrudyVotion · 11/05/2011 21:13

ZuleikaJambiere the baby list sounds interesting, and a useful crib sheet for me! I still give DS milk at bedtime, like you it never occurred to me not to. It's such an entrenched part of his bedtime routine I wouldn't fancy my chances of with-holding it. He's a milk monster too, he'd happily drink several pints a day if I let him. I'm Blush to admit it but it's only a few weeks ago that I stopped giving him milk during the night.

This weight thing is such a bind. I don't think I'm ageing well (am 40) as the skin on my face is showing the damage now from all the steroid cream I slapped on in my teens and 20s - as if I wasn't going to trowel on the miracle cream when it made all the difference. So if I can't rely on my looks, I'd like to have a decent figure. One of the hardest things about getting older is realising that you fade into the background. But, having a 9 yo daughter who is blessed with a very pretty face and absolutely enormous brown eyes with floor-length lashes, it feels okay to be passing on the baton. I think if I didn't feel so tired and so stretched and worried about money and the business I would look 10 years younger!

I've just seen the trailer for tomorrow night's Cutting Edge - has anyone seen it? I can't cope with that sort of programme any more, I can't take anything about hurting children. I only just got through Phillippa Gregory's The White Queen with Elizabeth Woodville losing her sons Sad

Beans33 · 11/05/2011 21:46

lady, I forgot to say one other thing... Probably one reason you're not getting the compliments/comments that you used to is that you're pushing/carrying two small children, so are clearly unavailable, rather than because you're less attractive. I miss snogging the odd random man because, superficially, it made me feel like I was sexy! Actually, it probably meant I was an easy Snog!! But god it was fun!! Don't think sometimes I don't wish I was thinner, I do, but I am crap at putting in the effort so have to be happy with my weight!
ZJ I still give DD1 milk at bedtime. She loves it and I won't dream of taking it away from her until she goes nappy-free at night, only then to prevent wees at night.
I've just eaten loads of lasagne. Delicious!
Watching The Apprentice. Crap telly, but I LOVE it!

ZuleikaJambiere · 11/05/2011 23:13

Here comes part 2 ?

Arti your DD1 is adorable. To think you were worried about her at school not long ago

And Poison your DS is hysterical with his dramas (clearly not the right response, but I can?t help myself Grin)

Blush I genuinely thought airing cupboards were designed for storage and not anything else. When we knocked our house around I had ours enlarged and hanging rails put in for optimal storage ? I love it (and the collection of dust balls at the back of it)

Now you?ve spoken to the HV Nolda you?ll probably find that the rule of sods law means that next week DS will discover 1,000 new words and use perfectly formed sentences and grammar. His understanding sounds like he?s just biding his time

I hope bedtime went better tonight Jump? All I can say is that I am mighty impressed that you showed restraint with S and was consistent with the boundaries you gave her. I?d have failed on both counts

I love your idea of singing loudly Jolly, must get practising ? and 8lb 8, fabby!

What is that diet app Effie? My most (only) successful attempt at weight loss was doing Weight Watchers online and being religious about logging my food and weight (and the geek in me got turned on by the tables and charts), but it?s too many £££s for me to sign up at the mo, so an app would be cheaper. However I don?t have any scales at home (deliberately, as I would get obsessed) so need to measure myself, or something like that, instead. I?m going to a trial session of some wobbly machine thingy (TM) tomorrow lunchtime, which several work buddies love. Apparently I just stand on it for 10 minutes a few times a week and it wobbles me around and I will magically tone up. Its not one of those power plates that are in gyms, that you do exercises on, this one you just stand there. It really appeals, as I only get 45 mins for lunch, which isn?t long enough to change, exercise, shower, change again and eat something, and I?m always dashing via nursery in the mornings or evenings. I hope it works as it sounds magical. I?ve also got out my birth ball and found a website with different exercises for that, but have just looked at it so far

Talk about the camera adding 10lbs, or not. I think all your cameras must work in reverse and take the weight off, as none of you look like you are the size you say you are on your photos on fb. I did something really quite daft last week, and ordered a size 4 dress online instead of 14 ? has anyone seen a size 4 dress in real life? It arrived yesterday and it actually is doll like, DD has larger frocks

Grin at Mom sucking DS2s dummy! But the sleep deprivation is very unfunny. As is the eczema, poor M. I?m sure I?ve said this before but we found that oat baths really made a difference to DD ? wrap a handful of oats in some muslin and put it in the water, squeezing all the oaty goodness out and wash him with it instead of a sponge. Also don?t worry about baths everyday, and get some fresh air and warm sunshine on his skin (try to avoid really hot sun though, so you don?t need to use suncream if you can avoid it). And finally try a different detergent for washing clothes. Of course these are only what worked for us and I?m sure others will have some other tried and tested remedies

On the number of children, I?m getting v broody for number 3 and don?t even have number 2 yet! I loved being pregnant and the thought that I will only do that once (if I?m lucky) more really makes me sad

And I love that my Gran?s Kenwood bits have found a happy home Jolly, not at all what I expected when I first logged onto MN!

Have fun all you happy campers

ZuleikaJambiere · 11/05/2011 23:24

I've found the list on an old thread. I think this is the latest version, I can see Mom and Kiwi on there. Sadly we don't hear from a lot of people on here now, and then we have a load of name changers too - so probably will only confuse Trudy rather than helping! Should we update with our new nicknames, do you think?

Whilst searching through the threads I found one for Dec 10, that was started when their babies were born and still isn't finished. For some reason I found it really sad that that thread has fizzled out so soon, and I'm v grateful for you lovely ladies
