Thank you all very much for the well wishes and good advice about my friend's wife. They know what strain of bacteria it is so she is on her high dose anti-bacs. Her husband keeps being told various things along the lines of "oh, well if it was even more serious then, x would have happened" so is taking them all as encouraging signs (as he should). He even has the strength to joke about the hideousness of her pink hospital gown (she works in fashion). I'll let you know how things progress.

Yesterday afternoon I did indeed intend my DP's work people lunch thing. Now you may have noticed my general chippiness and disdain for anything I deem too middle class (can be anything from dress sense to etiquette). I realise I am ridiculous. My DP is the very epitome of Tory posh boy but over the years I've managed to get him to ditch the deck shoes, chinos and blazers. He does however work in the wine industry - which can be like an gathering of the Bullingdon Club Old Boys Society. So in honour of yesterday's event I dyed my hair bright red (really really red) and wore a floor length leopardprint chiffon dress - with shedloads of vintage style makeup. Being already hugely pregnant I looked like a galleon with sails at full. It was actually very nice fun. My outfit was a hit (all the other women had opted for jeans - something I never do) and of the 16 or so people there most of the men had been to Eton (or at the very least Westminster). Most of the afternoon was taken up with a wine and cheese pairing (hosts are in wine trade and catering) - which was delicious but the most middle class thing i have ever done. Ah - gone are the days when I'd spend Saturday afternoons sleeping off the night before, having just got in from clubbing.

BG great news on steps - it doesn't take long. From a couple of steps my DD was about a week till confidently striding across the floor.

scones the tiredness is awful isn't it? Do you get the second trimester energy surge though? Personally I think it is less a surge - more the lack of bone-crushing exhaustion of the first tri.

PenguinArmy · 06/03/2011 06:36

evening all

thanks for all the b'day wishes, it meant a lot

here is our day It was glorious weather in the end. Skimpy dress and sunglasses came out (though cardi was on by the time we got to the beach as was 3:30)

Cake is now made and ready for the morning :)

Not sure I can survive work if I get that again.

stangirl thinking of your friend

abs happy birthday for your DD tomorrow (am assuming it is technically Sunday over there now)

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/03/2011 08:13

Happy Birthday Abs DD!! Have a wonderful day.

LOVE the birthday pix, PA! She looks like she had a lovely time. DD enjoyed looking at them too.

Love the image of you dressed up for your wine do, Stan! Any pix??

I've been lucky so far with pg stuff - last time round I felt a bit odd first trim and had to eat very regularly or I felt wrong. I had maybe a fraction less energy than usual, but was otherwise fine. This time round, I actually feel a lot better generally, no noticeable tiredness etc. and apart from a tendency to want to eat cream cheese (!) and the insomnia (which - fingers crossed - seems to be starting to settle down a bit).

Well done on the driving, Scones - I must admit, I've hardly driven at all these last few years and I do worry I might have lost my nerve a bit. I s'pose it's like - ah - riding a bike??!

Love your payoff, bethy "bollocks and goodnight"!

Good to hear your DD2 is feeling brighter, CS.

Hopefully your DS is feeling a bit perkier too, SB.

BG, that walking sounds like it's getting rather good now!

Ooh, meant to add - DD slept for over an hour in her buggy trundler yesterday - and slept through overnight, too (after taking half an hour and a certain amount of whingeing to actually get off to sleep Hmm)

Marvelous Smile

Morning all. I'm hiding in the study again, trying to write a couple of articles while DH has the girls downstairs.

DD2 is much better. She perked up after lunch yesterday, hasn't been sick since Friday night and is now crawling, playing and chatting as normal. What a relief! DD1 is also a bit better, and they both slept through last night (which should make this morning's writing a bit easier).

PA glad you had a nice day for Esme's birthday.

IC well done on the sleep - did you sleep better?

stan glad the work do was OK.

Right, allergies...

BabyGiraffes · 06/03/2011 09:38

Happy Birthday AbsDD and belated happy birthday again Esme (sorry, PA, meant to post yesterday, but only wished an early (on FB) and late happy birthday now Grin. Mind you, with the time difference to yours I may not be too late now... Sweet pictures, and I am very Envy of your fantastic weather Envy Grin.
Stan pictures please Grin. The do sounds wonderfully posh Grin

PA fantastic pictures! Smile I am with BG Envy Envy Envy

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 06/03/2011 10:30

Why is everything in bold???? Confused
one more Envy for the beach

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 06/03/2011 10:31

stan thinking of your friend, hopes she gets better.

BabyGiraffes · 06/03/2011 10:44

Shock dd2 just managed to topple a large heavy standing mirror Shock. I have never moved so fast in my life! I saw it come forward in slow motion and almost flew across the room to catch the top of it before it ended on top of her. She was flung backwards but unhurt and just looked puzzled. I feel like I need a lie down to slow down my heart rate... That child needs watching every second. Never knew how lucky I was with dd1 who was a cautious sensible baby who listened to 'no' and let things be. Phew.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/03/2011 12:41

BG Eeek!!!

OP posts:
StoneBaby · 06/03/2011 18:29

PA great pictures

BG phew!

DS is better today, I think he's over the jabs now. Just need to see if he develops a rash in the next 14 days (one side effect of mmr) Confused

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 06/03/2011 18:31

BG IC puts it well: EEK!
Nervous laugh though. I have one of those too but DD1 was also like that and I was pre warn by my mum as I was the same. So everything which can toppled or moved or climbed on as been removed or secured. But that still not enough as they always find ways to express themselves.
I found DD2 on the table top licking the salt Hmm. She also pushes a chair onto her highchair then the 2 onto the side board to get on top of the TV or uses her ride on as a 1st step to go on the window sill. I am actually thinking of removing the chairs for a while Confused, I didn't have any in japan! DH is not keen Grin
No second alone for the next 2 years!!!! Don't forget to warn any potential babysitter (including close family).

StoneBaby · 06/03/2011 18:38

Give a glass of Wine to BG and schro and hope that their blood pressure is not rising too high (or alternatively that you have a good hairdresser to hide all the white hairs yor DDs are giving you Smile )

DS can climb on a few things but he seems to be quite cautious so I'm hoping it will be fine.

BabyGiraffes · 06/03/2011 18:43

Thanks schrodinger and SB... glad to accept the fanning and the wine Grin
IC love the video clip on your blog of Rosie's new style naps Grin
[waves at everyone else and rushes off to put rice on to go with Thai green curry... yummy]

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/03/2011 19:39

Ha ha ha, very quick at spotting that, BG!! I'm impressed that you follow so diligently - and touched.

Here if anyone else fancies a gander at the Buggy Trundler in action Smile

Thanks for asking, CS, I did sleep a bit better last night. Still woke loads (and needed to pee several times....bloody pregnancy) but generally managed to get back to sleep, which is a big improvement on lying awake for hours.

Evening all, thanks for you your comments regarding DD and my pictures. I finished the cake finally, sorry to being exhibitionist and link to the blog again but at the bottom of the current one is a link to some photos of DD enjoying her cake. The frosting was a bit of a disaster though but was very yummy.

It's going to take us a while to eat it all. Would I be a bad mummy if I let her have a slice a day for the rest of the week?

Again good luck for tomorrow Abs

StoneBaby · 07/03/2011 07:21

Happy birthday Abs DD. I hope you'll have a fab day

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/03/2011 07:22

Oh whoops, was I a day early?

Happy Birthday Abs DD!!

OP posts:
SconesForTea · 07/03/2011 09:38

Mmm it looks delicious PA!

Happy birthday Abs DD!

IC where did you get the fab cloak-thing that Rosie is wrapped in?! Want one!

I am Shock and EnvyEnvyEnvy that you two don't have 1T exhaustion; I thought everyone got it. Most of the time I feel like I've been given a sleeping pill and then told on no account to go to sleep. Double Envy to IC for feeling better?!?!

BG yay on the steps and Shock at the mirror incident. !!!!

CS glad to hear your girls are improving.

DD seems to have decided that one wake-up per night is the thing, at 4 or 5 am. She still wants a feed, but is protesting less when I offer water instead, and (touch wood of course) resettles quite quickly. I suppose I can live with that. I'm not even sure what I could do to change it, anyway.

Right I must go and be productive or I could quite easily spend the day on my bottom.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/03/2011 09:47

Better than the previous pregnancy, Scones - not better than normal Grin
But you're right, I seem to be getting away with it (so far...)

The cloak-thing is actually an official Bebeconfort foot-muff (bit of a misnomer, that!) - but I imagine it would fit other pushchairs, although you would probably want to check dimensions/holes for straps etc.
I haven't seen a better one, I must admit - having the hood and the wrap bit for the arms is ace - and you can unzip the bottom bit for when they grow out of it too.
I don't recall it being especially pricey, either.
And I love the colour - although if the next baby is a boy, he may not thank us (!)

Not quite ten yet and so far dd2 has bitten my thigh for fun, stuck toast in her ear, styled her hair with weetabix, unrolled a toilet roll, put her bath toys in the toilet, stripped wallpaper off the wall, emptied my underwear drawer, pulled the phone off the table and dialled Tokyo (possibly), tried to eat a piece of coal, tried to eat my mobile phone, brushed her teeth with her hair brush... and been utterly adorable Grin

BabyGiraffes · 07/03/2011 10:18

Oh, and while I was typing she deleted all messages from the answerphone Smile.
She also laughs like a drain when I say 'No' to her (as in 'Who are you kidding Mama? I'm the boss here!]

BabyGiraffes · 07/03/2011 10:32

IC that was a complete fluke by the way that I spotted the new video clip... I am not stalking your blog, honestly Grin Grin

chinook · 07/03/2011 13:31

politely declines cake while salivating polishing halo as have just been to Weight Watchers and lost another 3 lbs. Sounds like I was a similar size to you fc. I never lost all my baby weight between dd and ds and it was a mistake. I have a loft full of gorgeous size 10 and 12 clothes and I shall be wearing them again by the summer. I am determined.

Exhausted here today as yesterday was dd's 5th birthday party. Dp was absolutely fantastic and entertained 26 little ones for 2 hours. I actually think I fell a little more in love with him, seeing how much effort he made for dd. He even made a frame, covered it with netting and filled it with balloons. They had to crawl around in it to find the colour ball of the team they were in, and they loved it. I really think he should be thinking of being a teacher rather than me.

stangirl hope your friend's wife is improving? How awful for her and her family. Loved the description of your wine and cheese party. Reminded me of when I did my solitors exams at Law College. It was full of toffs. Lovely though most of them were, my friends and I just giggled at them for the year we were there. Of course they ended up with all the top jobs because they had the right connections, even though we had better degrees. So the last laugh was on us..... Such is life.

Lovely birthday pics PA and Happy birthday Abs dd.

PA definitely ok to let dd have cake. Ds is only 2nd percentile and most of the time refuses his meal after 5 spoonsfull. I let him have cake/biscuits more often than most would I reckon, just to get calories down him. I try to bake them myself, but don't always succeed.

Better go as the front room is buried under a pile of presents and needs sorting. Dd got 3 Barbie's and 5 make your own friendship bracelet kits. Would it be rude to ebay some of it?!
