A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

Yay! Sorry a bit over excited about finding the new thread.

Stangirl · 24/02/2011 08:37

Bookmarking. DD better today.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 08:44

Aw, Stangirl, that's no fun. Poor wee thing, I hope she's feeling brighter now. That awful scary feeling in the pit of your stomach.... Part of the territory, I guess but oh..... for you if you need it.

Madrid, PA?!! Ooh, that sounds exciting! If you decide to go for that one, let me know immediately!

We're actually coming back to Blighty for definite in July as DH just got accepted onto a PGCE course in Bristol, hooray! Spain has been ace, but family back up with two LOs will be essential, I feel. Also it's good for DH to get his career going properly, especially with a young family to consider.
You could take over our flat, PA, if you go for the Madrid option! Nothing like the palacial dimensions of your California home, but it's a pretty good flat in a nice part of Madrid, inexpensive, reasonably convenient for the centre and the landlord and landlady are splendid. Very friendly neighbours too and they all love babies and small children.
Pitch over!

I hope your DD2's cough gets sorted out pronto, Shro.

Well, DD didn't sleep through last night - she was awake between 0430 and 05.30 - but after that slept until almost 08.00.
Ironically, I had a much better night, no major insomnia, thankfully. The lie-in was lovely too. I feel like a whole new woman!!!

X-posted...good news Stangirl - babies seem to be remarkably resilient to these things, eh?!

Hi fc! Have you found the FB group yet?

OP posts:
flyingcloud · 24/02/2011 08:52

Yes! I've asked to join - as the group is private, I assume you will know it's me (I have an RBS Badge of Honour on my profile pic, for the Six Nations! Not that it's doing my country much good!)

Great news to hear your dd is better Stangirl, babies are resilient as IC says. I think it takes its toll on us more than them!

IC that's great news about your DH's PGCE (and your sleep!)

OK, must go do some work, am slacking now.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 08:56

fc, you're in the FB group! Good effort, Shro.

Well, I had the first bunch of pee tests and bloods this morning. Only five jabs - last time round because I was a relatively late entrant into the Spanish system they took 13 vacuettes from me in one go!!

testing new thread...

BabyGiraffes · 24/02/2011 11:48

Yipee
Thanks IC

Stangirl · 24/02/2011 12:25

IC I'm a Bristol girl born and bred. Moved out nearly 25 years ago now but I still visit my family there.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 13:42

Wicked, we'll have to get together when you're in town, Stangirl! I had a feeling you were Bristolian when you mentioned where you went to school....

A thread or so ago I mentioned having a west of England meet-up and I'm still on for that.

OP posts:
SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 24/02/2011 13:54

I had a yearly pass for the bristol zoo for 2 years. Grin

BabyGiraffes · 24/02/2011 14:10

Scones hope your interview goes well and you get the job!

bethylou · 24/02/2011 14:30

I could hear the Bristol Zoo lions roaring from my bedroom window for two years!!

Sorry BG -there's the right job out the somewhere. I didn't get several before I ended up in this one and I love it.

Stan Glad DD is feeling better. Should we always take them to a&e at that temp?

DS2 and I have just spent 15 minutes wrestling over a dirty nappy change! I'm convinced he's in training for the Olympic Sumo wrestling! I never had this bother with DS1 but DS2 can contort himself up adn lamost over a shoulder, bum a foot in the air threatening to wipe poo on my nose - nice!!

Then he took 40 minutes to go off for his afternoon nap. While DS1 shut out the noise and went straight to sleep, DS2 and I battled through a load of pick up, put downs. I came down to calm down get a drink, and returned to find he had thrown everything out of the cot including the sleeping bag he had been wearing when I left a minute earlier! That was impressive! I think he is trying to give up the dummy in the day, which is fine as he only coughs at night, but this week I've got so much work to do (mainly as I keep ending up on here Hmm) that I need to him to synchronise sleep with DS1, like he usually does!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 15:36

You're all welcome...!

Sympathies on the nap conundrum, bethy.
DD just refused her afternoon nap - and that after only having 45 mins until 12.00. Ah well. Her lie-in meant she had more sleep than usual overnight, so I guess she just wasn't tired enough today. I'll get her to bed a bit early, though. She'll be too overtired if I leave it until 19.30.
She's being very cheerful at the moment, so that's something.

She had a bit of cow's milk this afternoon, but was still rather reluctant.

IC Brilliant on Rosie mostly sleeping through, not so good on your insomnia Sad. Hope the glucose tolerance test went well? I talked my way out of it with both pregnancies because I didn?t want the hassle (and I could see no indication why I should need it). I did opt for cvs though with dd2 just to reassure myself all was well.
Oh, and brilliant news on mrIC's PGCE
Stan so sorry your LO was so unwell. Hope she is a bit better today. I?m afraid that?s the problem with nurseries that the first few months are full of illness (well, it was for me and dd1). It does settle down though once they?ve had a few bugs?
PA way to go!! You have so many options, I am really confident you will be totally fine and maybe getting shot of your current boss is the best thing in any case (by the way, was it a sniper on the roof? Hope not.)
beth mine's also surpringly resistent when it comes to nappy changes and can contort herself in such a way that she is facing forward while I still hold her feet and bottom in place... Hmm

PenguinArmy · 24/02/2011 16:56

BG alas it just the men fixing the roof leeks

PenguinArmy · 24/02/2011 16:57

also sleeping bags, we cannot use the ones with poppers on the shoulders, she's been escaping from those for a few months now.

Stangirl · 24/02/2011 17:16

IC I can't remember mentioning my school. I never do normally as it has a ridiculous name and kinda makes my anti-middle class stance seem a little daft. I'm nothing if not inconsistent.

bethy I doubt very much you need to take them to a&e at that temp but I don't have a clue about children, it was the first time she had run a temperature and the hospital was very very close. The nursery staff also seemed very worried about her - and i guess they see a lot of problems and know when to worry. The doc didn't treat me like I was an idiot so it was ok. Next time i'll just calpol her and wait 30mins to see if she improves. We learn....

BabyGiraffes · 24/02/2011 17:34

dd2 has turned very shouty here. She is not used to such a busy household so seems to think this is the only way to get heard... I'm starting to get a headache Hmm

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 17:41

Haven't done the glucose yet, BG - I think the Spanish just routinely starve you before any kind of blood tests....! But the glucose is done as standard for everyone here, so I'll have to neck that Lucozade stuff sooner or later. Funny how they do things differently in different parts of Europe...

Wasn't it RM, Stangirl? (If those initials mean nothing to you, I must have imagined it or it was mentioned by someone else).

40 is a bit scary though, Stangirl - our pediatrician said to bring DD in if her temp hit 40 the one time I was worried about it (reaction to the second set of jabs).

The nurse that took my bloods today was the same one who usually does DD's vaccinations. She was very interested to see I'm pg again and was asking about it - she thought a 20 month age gap was perfectly fine, but "lots of nappies" - which is fair enough Smile

OP posts:
BabyGiraffes · 24/02/2011 18:37

IC the age gap is perfect Smile. They will be best mates and play together really well, and your first one won't remember a time without a sibling (important for jealousy). I found my two helpless with laughter collapsed in a cuddly heap on the corridor and it took me a while to get out of dd1 why they were both laughing so much. Apparently dd1 copied everything dd2 did, which made dd2 roll about laughing, which gave dd1 the giggles, which set off dd2 again... you get the picture Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 18:50

Aw, BG - lovely!

There are 18 months between myself and my sister and we've always been close. Obviously the occasional squabble when we were young'uns, but mostly we got along very well. She's one of my very favourite people in the whole world Smile
(she used to be no.1, but now I've got DD...)

StoneBaby · 24/02/2011 19:41

Thanks IC for the new thread

BG aww

stan I have been several times to a&e with DS has his temp wasn't going down. I also found that he reacts better to nurofen to calpol when he has fever.

Congrats to MrIC. IC just as curiosity, will you be able to get back into NHS easily?

We had a big conversation with DH about having a 2nd DC. We both want another but realised we can't afford it at the present Sad

DS is also very good at nappy-wrestling. Plus as he can't stand being lie down he has a tantrum every time and try to escape!!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/02/2011 20:14

Aw, that's a shame SB...
But you're still a young lass, so plenty of time to get DC2 underway when finances are looking better for you and DH. I'm like Stangirl - age not on my side so didn't want to leave it too long before trying for DC2. Even though DH will be a penniless student next year. Trying to get a job is a bit pointless given my condition, but we do have some savings to tide us over.

Good question about the NHS, SB. I don't see why there should be a problem, but once I've got to the end of the first trim I'm going to ring them up and explain the situation.

DD's been having fun walking along the walls today - and even got cocky at one point and walked while holding on one-handed to her pushalong truck. It's quite exciting to see her confidence on two feet growing so quickly.

She behaved impeccably this evening, ate a massive supper and was full of energy and cheer, so I only put her to bed a bit earlier than usual. Not surprisingly, she zonked very quickly, but it was pretty impressive after only one 45-min nap...
