A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

Something light to end the thread maybe.... question for those who have resumed conjugal relations - we're planning to ttc in the coming months but having not done it for a while it now feels a little strange starting. In fact we still haven't managed it - not sure how to get past DH's not wanting to even risk tasting breastmilk for one thing. Grin any ideas gratefully received!

rainbowweaver · 17/04/2011 00:43

...oh and best hangover cure I know is after all the alcohol, to drink at least 1 litre and ideally 2 litres of water before you go to sleep. You have to wake up early to go pee but at least no hangover!

Bearcrumble · 17/04/2011 07:33

Scones Great news on the scan. Really pleased for you.

SB Very cute about the gardening. He's such a sweetie. There's a pic on my profile page titled (ahem) 'bumming Aslan' - luckily it's only my back.

PA I'm so sorry sleep is still so rubbish. The festival sounds like fun.

SC Sorry DD is ill. Hope she feels better soon.

Likewise get well soon to your family Rainbowweaver

FC DS likes to eat pasta spirals with homemade sauce (loads of veg and a carton of chopped tomatoes - sometimes I add mince and sometimes I add meatballs and sometimes it's just veggie). Also grilled polenta with cheese, omlette cut into strips (sometimes add fried onion and courgettes and boiled potatoes to make a spanish omlette - he likes to eat that with his fingers), fishcakes - mash, poached salmon and frozen mixed veg all mushed together, coated with breadcrumbs and fried or baked although he prefers the unhealthier way. Toasted bagels cut up with philadelphia or houmous on top - pitta pockets with similar - nut butters as well. He likes to eat cherry tomatoes and is getting better at cucumber sticks with houmous to dip them in. Oh and this fish pie - cod and spinach with lemon and olive oil with sliced potato on top.

RW Goodluck with TTC. Maybe he thinks that at this stage breastmilk is still liable to squirt everywhere like in the early days, maybe reassure him that your supply is a lot less er, abundant and that it's really unlikely he'll taste any unless.... you know.

I went to my friend's DS's first birthday party yesterday and I came this close to committing a terrible social faux pas. I am so glad I avoided it. Friend told me she'd met a famous male singer at one parent and baby group, and it's someone we really liked when we were younger. This woman at the party was there with her son and said she'd met my friend at that particular baby activity. I was so near to saying "Oh wow that's where you met BLANK" - thank fuck I didn't as this woman was his wife. When I got home and my friend said on fb "did you work out that was so-and-so's missus" my blood ran cold!

Can someone tell me either not to worry or that I am totally unreasonable not to take dd2 straight to A&E?I managed to reduce her fever last night and she slept reasonably well (we kept her in our bedroom just in case) but then she woke this morning crying with a temperature of 40.1 and promptly was sick after drinking some water... I double dosed her on calpol and calprofen an hour ago and her temperature is down to 39.3. She has also had a few spoonfuls of porridge and huge quantities of cold water and some milk. She seems happy enough now sitting on dh's lap playing... We are still debating whether to take her to hospital but all they do is double dose her and observe her, so I am still reluctant to go and sit around A&E for five hours until they send us home again. My gut feeling right now is to observe her an if she goes over 40 again or is sick again or shows any other worrying signs we will take her to hospital I guess.

SocietyClowns · 17/04/2011 11:55

dd2 seems a little better and had a good morning. Just begged to go to bed so I put her down early for her lunchtime nap. Just hoping she's over the worst. And just as well Stansted have no body temperature scanners... Hmm I am always astonished how resilent babies are. She walked, played and chatted earlier when still with a temperature of 39 - which clearly felt better to her than 40!
Sorry, lots of me posts. Waving to everyone... Hope you all have a good weekend Smile

StoneBaby · 17/04/2011 11:57

SC I would take DS to a&e but I'm a worrier so it would give me reassurance. Have you try to give her a bath (around 37C) to reduce the temperature? If she's taking fluids and keep them in, you may just want to wait?

How exciting! Someone else is ttc Grin

Long time we haven't hear from Abs

I had to fight for DS to have a nap this morning (took me 12mn to get him to sleep), he was so tired that he was falling when walking. He didn't have a good night (little werewolf is out of his box) so he needs the sleep.

StoneBaby · 17/04/2011 12:05

I'm off to make gingerbread biscuits this afternoon!

Have a good Sunday

flyingcloud · 17/04/2011 12:13

SC sorry to hear about your DD.

Thanks for all the menu ideas, will be back later, off out!

Bearcrumble · 17/04/2011 12:13

SC Glad she is a little better. I wouldn't personally take mine to A+E with a temp of 39-ish if they were playing and chatting etc.

Are you just keeping her in a nappy and vest?

SB Yum! I love ginger biscuits.

DS hasn't taken two naps for about a week but has been waking and napping really early. I decided to make him power through the morning and he managed it with really good humour (thought he would get in a real mood to be honest) and conked out in the pram at 11.45. Just got home and parked pram with him still asleep in DH's office downstairs. Am hoping for another hour and a half so I can make pasta sauce and meatballs.

PenguinArmy · 17/04/2011 16:10

erm SB 12 min is not a fight here Grin in fact it seems perfectably reasonable

We'll try some pasta sauce. I've not had as tomatoes aren't in season (and I don't like jars) but I'll give it a go. She normally have plain penne pasta with spinach and pine nuts, but she has shown no interest.

soc It sounds like she's otherwise alert

I'm off to watch DD swim lesson this morning (a make-up session as they missed it in the week) Then off climbing this afternoon and a little night hike to watch the moon rise up the mountain (but there are roads that take you the majority of the way - heck they have roads everywhere here, you can even park on the pier)

SocietyClowns · 17/04/2011 16:37

I am quite relaxed about 39ish in a 14 mths old but dd2 came in at 40.4 just now which makes me very stressed indeed. Given nurofen and wet cloth around her legs and hope for the best. May still need that trip to A&E after all.

StoneBaby · 17/04/2011 18:30

PA I know it's not long but when I'm holding him and that he is crying, those 12 mn seem so long...

DS hasn't really eat today which make me think his gums may be sore as he normally eats anything put in front of him and today only cereals, yogurts and compotes have been eaten easily.

sc good luck.

SocietyClowns · 17/04/2011 19:12

Quick update... I did contact the out of hours GP service who sent me straight to A&E by appointment (bypassing the usual long queue). Was seen immediately and dd2 has a very nasty ear infection in both ears. I got a bit of a telling off, too, Blush because apparently a child this age with a temperature of 40 or above should always be seen immediately... Blush. Poor baby Sad. She's now on antibiotics and hopefully they will kick in quickly.

SocietyClowns · 17/04/2011 19:22

Anyway, something more lighthearted... This apparently is me, according to dd1. Must be on a good day Grin

StoneBaby · 17/04/2011 19:23

sc glad to hear you got an answer to dd2 illness. Hopefully she'll get better quickly

flyingcloud · 17/04/2011 20:04

SC, great that you got it sorted - hope you can still make your holiday?

BC, I love the faux pas that nearly didn't happen, am itching to ask who the pop-star is?!

Thanks for all your tips and menus! It's good to get ideas. DD is definitely a bit slow to eat on her own (no problem to eat cakes and things :) but anything that involves a spoon is pretty tricky). DH can't stand mess and is very reluctant to let her eat on her own. She is pretty crap at eating things that she doesn't like. The big problem is she hates, hates, hates being in the high-chair (have now got a booster seat, which is a bit better, not much) so as soon as she wants to get out, she screams and screams. The screaming is a new thing... but any displeasure and she lets it all out in a vocal tirade!

IC - I meant to say that you looked fab in that photo too, heading out for your night out.

DD has a new cousin, which is exciting. There are now three of them within two years, so hopefully they will be close growing up, although she is (so far) the only girl!

SconesForTea · 17/04/2011 20:33

Hi everyone, hope we've all had good weekends Smile

SC glad you took DD to A&E and have anti-bis. If I'd been on earlier I wouldn't have had a clue what to advise Confused I have absolutely no idea what constitues a reasonable and what would be a total over-reaction to illness. DD has only had a temperature once and we didn't even have a thermometer then Blush Good to know about the 40 limit. Have a great holiday, where are you going? Hope that the anti-bis kick in really quickly.

Is the IC pic on FB...? I don't ever seem to go on FB these days.

fc congrats on the new nephew!

bc hope the hangover passed swiftly. I love boozing and have had a few humdingers since DD was born Blush It is just AWFUL looking after a child with a hangover, I hope you didn't have to. One great thing about being pregnant is no hangovers for the rest of the year (unless I give newDC a bottle on Christmas Day and go mad I suppose). The downside is of course no drinking Hmm

Who was the pop star who who who?! We won't tell!

SB I did wonder if it was new moon soon, it was so bright last night.

rainbow I will be frank, DH loves my boobs and has a good old suck but hasn't had any milk out of them for months he says. Which is before I got pg. I was down to feeding DD twice a day by the new year and I think from then on he stopped getting milk (not that he was after it in the first place Blush I hasten to add, just part of the fun). So your DH is probably safe. As for how to get started after a long break... again if I'm totally frank I'd advise to get a bit pissed Wink Usually makes it easier...

PA your morning sounds amazing. How lovely, and also how lovely for the two of you to have some couple-time.

Finally, food - all your ideas are amazing, but sound a lot of work. I try to give DD whatever we had the night before, but isn't always appropriate e.g. tonight it's a pretty hot chilli. Also she's not great at eating rice as wants to feed herself, and can't manage rice. She loves pasta but the sauce must be chunky or she'll just eat the pasta and leave the sauce. She also really loves scrambled egg and so has that for lunch on a few days per week. It is my intention to make her a stock of fishcakes as she loves those too, but I haven't done it yet. Also some special chunky veg pasta sauce.

Sorry for the essay Blush DH at the pub.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/04/2011 15:22

Thanks for all the lovely compliments! (The pic is on the blog, Scones. I'm not normally one for shameless self-promotion but it seemed an appropriate pic to illustrate that post.
(Did anyone see The Green Wing episode when Joanna Claw flaunts herself outrageously at some workmen, muttering to herself; "Still got it, still got it..." Somehow that picture reminds me of that... Grin)

Congrats on the clan's latest member, fc!

Waves back at IC from the German countryside... Grin Hope you have a fab time!! We managed to get to my parents in one piece and it already feels like a holiday, esp with bright blue skies and 23 degrees Smile

StoneBaby · 18/04/2011 19:28

European holidays! Have a great time IC and sc

Is your dd2 a bit better sc?

We had a much better night as DS slept through again.

Waves to everybody else

PenguinArmy · 18/04/2011 19:37

Now I think she is a bit under the weather BUT DD fed at 21:45 last night. Woke up for a bit at 00:30 but has resettled herself by the time I got there and then woke up at 04:50. I'm in Shock and am not at all expecting it to repeat itself.

I on the other hand had a awful nights sleep, most likely due to the asthma attack I had at climbing yesterday (no night hike for me), had another this morning and am now at home for the day having been at work for all of 40 mins.

Enjoy the sunshine soc my fore head has gone all dry from too much sun at the weekend Blush

SocietyClowns · 18/04/2011 19:51

PA sorry to hear about your asthma problems! Make sure you take it slowly! Mine's quite awful and I am now on tablets as well as inhalers... Sad Hope you get better quickly

sb dd2 was very very hot again this morning but slept the two hours to the airport and was quite chirpy on the flight. I had feared an hour of screaming but she was quite flirty with other passengers (in fact, seemed a little high on nurofen Hmm). She seemed a little better but having said that, since going to bed early she's woken every half an hour or so. I am sure she'll get better soon [hopeful emoticon]

StoneBaby · 18/04/2011 21:36

I think my little werewolf is out of his box. It's going to be a long night!

LittlebearH · 19/04/2011 07:47

Just marking. Still laptop issues/sleep issues.

At work, so will have a sneaky read and hoping to be back on line at home tonight, will post then.

(been up since 2am, CC looks likely for the bank holiday! :()

SconesForTea · 19/04/2011 09:48

Oh dear LBH Sad I thought my night was bad but I won't start moaning about it having read your post.

SC glad to hear DD is on the mend. Enjoy your holidays, sounds lovely. You too IC.
