A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

PenguinArmy · 14/04/2011 16:00

thanks scones She has cried before but that a conscious decision. This time felt more like I was wiping my hands of her (last resort and all that). Do they insist on changing your date? I know in some areas they don't if it's less than week difference. No-one will check anyway, so just cross it out Wink

A slightly better night last night (well she wasn't awake for ages) About every 2 hours until 2:30 and then every hour. A few times we gave calpol type stuff and she settled down straight away, so something in that concentrated sugary mixture calms her down.

MrPA is applying in the UK.

StoneBaby · 14/04/2011 18:43

scones happy to hear your scan was fine.

schro is your dd2 drinking milk because it's milk or because she's thirsty? ds has a beaker of water on the coffee table for him to take when ever he wants. I can't really help sorry Sad

IC lovely pixs

DS had a bit of an unsettled night last night. Unusual for us. He cried/whinged at 12am for 20mn then again at 1am for 15mn when I got up and gave him a dummy, he resettled and slept until 6.45am. I suspect the 4th premolar to be responsible for the 'bad' night (his gum is very bumpy and swollen). I went for the easy option but I am so tired at the moment that I need my sleep (even if I was awake until 2.30am waiting to see if he was to wake up again or not Hmm ). I think I may be low in iron, I need to get it checked.

Good luck to MrPA job hunting. Smile

SC SB DD2 might have had a growth spurt for a month Confused she took much less today! She drinks plenty of water, doesn't eat as much as a kid her age could, even less for her size but then she is thriving and more! So I don't think she needs more food, she is feeding herself completely now so might be getting less than she had before when she was still taking food from me too. She will have water for a bit then start crying again but will refused food. As she wasn't that kin on FF I would have guess that she would have stop milk. Confused I don't mind still feeding her on demand though, she is still a baby.

PA you are a saint, I did let both DDs to cry it out by now, due to anger/tiredness/blues.... I just had to get away. None of them seems to be damaged Wink mind you I had to put my finger in my hear and closed all doors in between to recompose myself enough to go back It never lasted more than 10 min before they were asleep or I was back comforting them. What ever you do next, good luck and remember you are not a bad person/mum for doing it.
good luck to MrPA

scones good to hear about the scan going well. Smile

StoneBaby · 14/04/2011 19:00

schro you're right about the growth spurt and self feeding. DS eats a lot a the moment (and want to enter into the kitchen all the time as he knows that's where food is!) and very happily misses his mouth when he feeds. Do what you think you should do.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 14/04/2011 20:34

Good news on the scan, Scones!

Love the self-cleaning baby, Soc! Most impressive.

Yes indeed, good luck MrPA.

DD still won't drink milk, Shro. I offer it to her every now and again, but so far it's always been met with a refusal. She has a load on her porridge and her diet is crammed with dairy products, so I'm not too worried about it. Judging by all the new teeth, I don't think she's lacking in calcium and her digestion seems to be fine.

Yes, DD will only tolerate her porridge being fed to her now - she refuses everything else if we try to spoonfeed or pop morsels in her mouth at other meals. She doesn't seem interested in feeding herself with a spoon though, SB.
Mind you, I now simply take the food away once she's decided she doesn't want it and offer her the next thing on the menu. Touch wood, her eating's been a bit better the last few days, so I think the more relaxed approach to mealtimes is paying off. She stuffed herself this lunchtime, DH and I were agog!

I am so hungover. Haven't felt like this for years. I have been being sick all morning. There are photos of me on facebook performing a sex act on a stone lion outside a bar in Shoreditch. I am a disgrace.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/04/2011 16:33

Poor you! I hope you're feeling better now x

StoneBaby · 15/04/2011 18:17

Yay! It's the weekend. I don't have to get up at 6.30am tomorrow Hmm I know I'll because of DS but still.

bc where are those pictures, I can't see them! The best way to cure a hangover I found is to carry on drinking (not the wisest advice I know Blush )

DS has helped me gardening today by putting one hand/arm at the time into the full watering can. At least he was busy and I was able to weed the veg patch.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/04/2011 18:50

That's cute, SB! (the gardening)

Well, I spoke too soon about the teething being temporarily over. It seems premolar number 4 is being a bit more stubborn than I thought, so we had two hours of wakefulness last night, and DD waking up from her nap with inconsolable crying (until teething gel, ibuprofen and a prolonged breast-nuzzle were all administered).

It's a good job DD gave us a lie-in until almost 08.00 this morning. That's something.

Full moon on Monday, let's see how many little werewolves are going to come out of their den Grin

flyingcloud · 16/04/2011 09:34

Grumpy baby here... Dd screamed blue murder as I took my shower this morning, followed by heaving sobs for half an hour. I've put her down for an early nap and she... Is.... Sleeping!

I thought she was supposed to be having a break in teething, sigh, but her cheeks are red and she still has to wear a bib at all times due to dribbling.

Great news on the scan Scones.

Loving the self cleaning baby, dd does wipe her tray down but enjoys mashing food into her hair and clothes.

Feeding is hard here too, dd won't let dh or I spoon feed her but will happily let the child minder or her babysitter feed her. She feeds herself intermittently, but thinks it's far funnier to feed me.

What do your dcs like to eat? I need some ideas!! Nothing dh or I eat seems suitable for dd so I am cooking separate meals. I have chicken breasts for lunch but not sure what to do with them so we can all eat the same thing (I am low carbing, just to confuse things).

StoneBaby · 16/04/2011 14:57

fc my DS eats at nursery anything from spaghetti bolognaise, beef casserole, chicken and mushroom pie, roast beef, fish fingers...with veg and potatoes. At home in the evening, he'll eat a vegetable dish with lentils, quinoa...
Weekends, if we eat out he'll have a dish from the child menu (they are huge over here!) or a left over from the weekend before which was frozen. Tomorrow he'll have beef and kidney casserole with mash. I always try to have him to eat proteins at lunch time and not in the evening. Tonight he'll have a stew of sweet potato, mushrooms and red lentils.

For the chicken you can cut it in strips that she can hold and grill it. Or a mild curry, or as a strogonoff... I find it easy for DS to eat the same as us but for me it's the timing with is out of sync.

StoneBaby · 16/04/2011 14:57

Sorry I just realised that my chicken suggestions have come too late.

PenguinArmy · 16/04/2011 17:17

Another 4:30-5:00 get up Confused Still waking roughly every 2 hours with a 1 4 hr session (normally at the start) but the resettles are OK atm.

We had a morning sans baby yesterday, it was great :) (but am now a bit sunburnt)

PenguinArmy · 16/04/2011 18:40

Here's what we got up to yesterday

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/04/2011 19:01

Oh wow, PA, lucky you Envy
(The whales, not the sleep. I hope that improves again soon...)

fc DD generally refuses to be spoon-fed (apart from her porridge) so we try and cook stuff in such a way that she can feed herself. She's also dubious about eating most veg unless well-hidden. So lots of things are concealed in egg (omelettes, fritters, pancakes, etc.), also bread pizzas are good (veg goo spread on with cheese melted on top).
We still offer a lot of things in "chip" shapes for ease of picking up, although sometimes DD prefers it if we cut up things so she can pop small morsels straight into her mouth without biting them off first.
She eats a lot of pasta in sauce and likes most potato-y things too (we do Trojan chips - basically, fried potato wedges with veg mushed into the middle of them). Strips of baked potato go down well, including with humus.
Veggie and lentil pie with goat's cheese has also proved popular.

We generally try to give DD an approximation of what we're having and adapt it to suit her preferences. Mostly this seems to work okay! We also have a freezer full of tiny portions of various things that she likes (or we hope she'll like!) so we've got standbys and alternatives if what we're having won't suit her.

We also finish off each meal with fruit - dried prunes after breakfast, various fresh fruit later on. That way we know even if DD's veg intake hasn't been that big, she'll still be getting plenty of vitamins etc.

Sorry that's not much help for meaty things, but I imagine you could factor meat in if any of the above offer some inspiration!

PA I was Hmm when I read your blog as Condor Express is one of the ferries we have between UK, CI and France. Very Envy of your trip.

PenguinArmy · 16/04/2011 21:55

DD tends to not eat a lot of dinner, as like others she is not spoon fed for that one (nor wants to be). She's normally have a few handfuls. If she doesn't eat a lot we crack open the weetabix or yogurt, since I don't feed her before bed time.

During the day she has a slice of toast around 8 (breakfast, porridge at 6). A banana as a late morning snack, a sandwich for lunch and a few other bits of fruit later in the afternoon.

SocietyClowns · 16/04/2011 22:24

Dd2 ill again (still?) since yesterday afternoon Sad. Was breathing strangely in the car last night and I measured 39.6 on arrival in the Midlands... She spent the night restless and all of today sitting on my lap or held on my arm. Her temperature twenty minutes ago was 40.3 Shock. About to check her again to see if another dose of calpol made any difference. Why do these things happen at weekends/away from home?

PenguinArmy · 16/04/2011 22:35

sorry your weekend away has been overtaken with this Soc :(

Hope the temp is under control and ibuprofen is good for temperature control as well.

We're back from the earth day festival (which is mainly a large number of stools but there are a few stages as well). Very hot today, mid 80'sF. DD now napping, a bit worried I had her toddling about too long, but she loved all the dogs (I would never let her approach dogs in the UK but here they are all so friendly and placid, but they are out with their owners all the time, not left at home) and kept trying to steal the other kids balloons, despite having her own (which we lost just as were leaving).

SocietyClowns · 16/04/2011 22:42

Still 39.9 which I guess is an improvement... I got her down to the living room because I don't like hear breathing and want to keep an eye on possible rashes etc (getting a bit spooked)
thanks PA...I am actually supposed to fly on holiday on Monday... Confused

PenguinArmy · 17/04/2011 00:02

Well it's still over 24 hrs for the fever to break. Anywhere nice?

rainbowweaver · 17/04/2011 00:10

fc DD now only feeds herself except when scrounging off my muesli in the mornings. She likes spaghetti, rice, pizza doughballs, sweet potatoes, roasted chicken, used to like porridge for breakfast but seems to have gone off it now, which is a pity as porridge could be enhanced with apple and cinnamon, or pear, or nectarine etc. Also partial to steamed veg (peppers, brocolli, cauliflower, spinach etc), fresh fruit (whole rather than bite size pieces, and for some reason must be in season - pears are the current favourite) and doesn't like things which are too much flavour (e.g. goulash, pasta from restaurants - to our despair!). Though luckily she likes things from dim sum lunches at Chinese restaurants, and Chinese food in general so that's at least a restaurant we can visit. Recently she's been insisting on eating with a fork or spoon especially if she sees us eat with utensils, otherwise satisfied with hands. Will tolerate eggs only if they are runny, loves plain toast, generally anything non-fat :S so the only fat she gets is in her milk. Wondering if we're giving her too much milk - she takes 200-300 mls a day, then supplements with whatever breastmilk she helps herself to at night. Solid food intake reduces whenever she's ill.

IC love the idea of trojan chips! Grin you look fab btw in that black outfit.

socHope your DD gets better soon. Someone advised me once to try applying a wet towel to the forehead - evaporation cools, not tried it yet.

PA sigh looking at your pics takes me back to when I was in California doing just that. Though that was many years ago, and I also got seasick. Must've explained why we had so many fish Grin Good luck re DH's job hunting.

Whole family down with sore throat, cough, colds this week. Getting better, luckily DH only has a weak version. DD and me has it the worst, with poor DD having a blocked nose which wakes her up at night trying to breathe. Sneezes results in loooong snot strings - keeping tissues under my sleeves aat all times!

PenguinArmy · 17/04/2011 00:15

Oh yes I forgot to say IC you did indeed look great

rainbowweaver · 17/04/2011 00:35

chestnut applied conditioner to DD's hair for the first time today. HUGE difference, should've done it a long while back....

Love hearing about what the LOs eat. Getting lots of ideas.
