CS Grin So sweet. dd2 did a similar thing and handed me her sleepsuit when I closed the curtains and took her shoes off and got her ready for her lunchtime nap. She got the time of day wrong a little but still...
I may have to watch myself more if I know dd2 is listening... esp in the car because I can have rather strong opinions of other drivers Grin

InmaculadaConcepcion · 25/03/2011 15:23

Fingers crossed, bethy...

Aw, BG, CS - so cute! It's kind of fun interpreting their ways of expressing themselves at this age, isn't it? DD has started indicating she wants to get up onto a sofa or bed by pointing, babbling, then laying her cheek against the piece of furniture. She hasn't quite reached the sophisticated level of communication of your DD2 yet, BG!

Anyone else got silly family nicknames for their LOs? Our DD is Pookle, Pooks or sometimes Schmooks for some reason....

I envy you the good night, SB... DD decided to be awake for around 1.5 hours overnight. I suppose it could have been teething, as her first molar was showing through the gum this morning, but she wasn't showing any teething signs and didn't appear to be in discomfort, just fidgety.

I don't think she was overtired, as she's had exactly the same pattern of broken nights after two naps. Just one of those things, I guess. This transition nap period is a bit tricky, though. It's hard to find the balance between too much/too late napping and not enough/too early...

PenguinArmy · 25/03/2011 15:53

also thinking of you bethy

we call DD monster, which seems apt

we've been awake at least 3 hours (sum) in the past few nights, but there is evidence of two new teeth starting to emerge.

nappy rash had got a lot better but has flared up again. Seems like she's pooing not long before she gets up which is doing some damage. hopefully it's related to the teething

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 18:33

PA same situation with the rash. I was quite pleased mid week as the blisters were looking like healing but they were bleeding again this morning. So tomorrow it's nappy free time as much as I can.

bethy thinking of you and DS1

IC PA poor you, hopefully the night will be better.

BG amazing how they have their own way to communicate. DS is very good at babling and pointing saying 'da'. The day he'll start speak for good we won't be able to sg=hed him up! Grin

I call DS chaton (kitten), monstre (monster), little terror or boubou (don't know why).

BabyGiraffes · 25/03/2011 18:50

beth hope the afternoon went okay

I have just threatened to go on strike and not make dinner if I don't get a glass of wine with it Grin. I think it's all your talk of you dh's leisure trips work, Stan Only joking, I am just cross that our wine rack is empty and dh can't decide on what to stock it with (erm, bottles? Grin)

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 18:52

BG you definitely have to go on strike if there's no wine!!! Shock I'll do the banners!

PenguinArmy · 25/03/2011 19:22

That's a MN campaign right there

PenguinArmy · 25/03/2011 19:22

Thanks SB

Hope your little man improves again soon

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 19:24

Thanks BG he's fine and most of the time undisturbed by the rash.

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 19:25

Sorry PA Oups!

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 25/03/2011 19:32

SB I call both DDs "booboo" It was how I said "bebe" as a baby myself. DD2 is crazy baby or crazy dog. Actually DD2 is booboo, DD1 was "sacacaca" ("poo bag" in french).

I realised DD2 understand much more now than when she did her 1 yo review.
That was one of the question of the peadiatrician. I was Hmm not much . Now she actually gets quite a lot. Getting her coat and shoes if I say time for park or get your sister from school. but then it is almost 2 months later!
She can't say "woof" but says "ffffoooo" to any dogs (or indeed any moving animals) . The doves are "oohooo oohhooo" (they try to get indoor through our bathroom window so very exciting!)
If I say "hot", she blows.
We had a tantrum because I said "where is "rabbit"?", and she ran to her cot and it wasn't there. So, yes!, be careful of what you are saying.
Annoyingly she is also loving songs, so she waves her hands saying "dana" (dance, I guess) and I have to do an endless singing.

She also mortifies me by going to every strangers in the park to chat or have a cuddle Hmm and waving goodbye to the all the subway truck when we exit.
"Da" means "yes" here and I think she is using it in context.
IC do you have some spanish words creeping up? I also have "haide" (go). She is regularly expose to 5 languages I wonder what she she can get from it Confused

CS glad your dad is out. It must be tough not knowing though.

I had a few beer'glasses so forgot about the rest BG go on strike! Wine
to BC bethy and abs

Stangirl · 25/03/2011 19:34

Nicknames: we call DD "Little Woo" - her names's Winter, and sometime Foxy (what we called my bump). Also Winter Wonderland, Winter the Squinter and Bubble. We, well I, also have lots of songs I've made up about her - waking up, nappy changing etc etc. At one point we did a cheerleading routine for her Naming Day which involved me and DP twisting ourselves into the letters of her name.

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 25/03/2011 19:37

Shouldn't post when having a bit! some of those sentences don't mean anything, sorry!

PA Hmm Grin there is already enough nonsense MN campaigns already! Wink

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 19:37

schro DS does understand both French and English and I think 'tries' to speak both. I can kind of recognise 'au revoir' but he only says the vowels and also say hiya.

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 25/03/2011 19:52

SB I expect DD2 to pick up both french and english which are the family languages. I am a bit surprised that she seems to pick up external languages as well like romanian, she is exposed to only in the park or at home with the cleaning lady. Her "god"parents speak in danish to her and she has regular exposure to turkish as well. It will come to a point when she will say something (truly) and I won't understand Blush.

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 25/03/2011 19:53

stan "little woo" is really nice

Bearcrumble · 25/03/2011 19:54

We have so many stupid names for DS - "Teppiten" is the main one - because when we first got the door bouncer he was taking little tentative steps in it so we saying "Steppin'" all the time and that became "steppin teppen" and somehow morphed into "Teppiten" or "Teppen". Also Mr Welland (I forget when that came from) so sometimes he is "Teppy Welland" and we sing "tep teppy ten teppy tep teppy welland" to the tune of La Macarena.

I shall stop now because you will all think I'm barking.

My mouth is clearing up - it was oral thrush (THE GLAMOUR) so nystatin is doing the trick.

Shroedinger I laughed at Sacacaca - I love that.

PA and SB Hope those rashes go soon - PA I agree it sounds like hers is teething related.

CS Glad to hear your dad is home - I hope they work out what happened and get him the correct treatment.

Bethy Thinking of you and DS1. Hope you are ok.

BG Yes, go on strike. Hold out for champagne. Sounds like DD2 is understanding a lot.

DS has really started pointing at everything too to get his wants understood even if they are a bit strange. Today he wanted his dinner served in a (cold) wok rather than a bowl - he was pointing like mad at it and I couldn't believe that was what he was after but when I balanced it on his tray he started getting really excited and put his toast and other bits of food in it and then ate them out of it. Bizarre.

I do feel more now like there are three people living in the house rather than two people and a baby.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 25/03/2011 19:55

Love the image of you and your DP cheerleading, SG!

DH and I both speak to DD in Spanish some of the time and of course our friends and neighbours and the people we meet in the street do as well. DD will often wave if we say "hola" or "adios", but she hasn't articulated any Spanish yet. Or much English, TBH. Mama and Dada is about it still.

Get the wine sorted, BG!

Aw, rubbish about the recurring nappy rash, I hope it clears up soon PA and SB.

CS yes, pleased to hear your Dad is out of hospital. Frustrating that there's no definitive diagnosis though.

Well, one nap today clearly wasn't enough as DD was so overtired by bedtime it took her 45mins with much fidgeting and intermittent protesting to actually get to sleep. It's a bummer because I can't seem to win. If I make sure she has two naps, she also takes ages to get off to sleep because she's not tired enough.

And either way, it seems she will still wake at night (although we still get the random sleep-throughs, so that's something).

Hopefully things will settle down again soon.

Oh and Froggy Maloo is another name - we don't use it so much now, more when he was a little tiny thing and his legs would go all froggy, you know how they do.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 25/03/2011 19:59

Sorry, X-posted Bc!

Hah, no more barking than the rest of us, anyway!
I'm glad your mouth is getting better again. Thrush is annoying, but luckily fairly quick and easy to treat (usually). I get the - um - down below variety quite a lot. Canestan cream is always to hand in our bathroom.
Cute about the bowl!

StoneBaby · 25/03/2011 20:00

bc good to hear you've finally getting better with your mouth.

Bearcrumble · 25/03/2011 20:03

x-post with you there IC - sorry you had a difficult time getting her off to sleep this evening.

I'm in the same boat really - occasional sleep throughs but most nights he now needs boob once and sometimes twice and is getting up really early (5.45 this morning).

I think maybe the thing to do if they are on two naps is to wake them once they've done an hour so they have two hours max in the day? I dunno.

SconesForTea · 25/03/2011 20:05

bethy thinking of you all today. Really hope it goes well with DS1 today ((hugs))

bc hope you're feeling a lot better. Keep with the early nights, hope your little rascal lets you get some of that much-needed sleep.

SB hope you're feeling better too. It's finally the weekend, yay!

CS glad your dad is out of hosp.

All the thread talk of nappy rash has made me feel lax in my attitude to DD's poor bottom, so I took her to the doctor today and she has thrush. I feel very bad for soldiering on for so long when there was something other than nappy rash wrong with her. We're now applying canesten as well as barrier cream .

How often do your LOs poo? DD manages to poo four or five times a day, nearly every nappy is dirty, and they are not solid poos but sort of pastes with bits of undigested food in. The doc didn't seem concerned. But if she would only poo less often, her poor bottom would have a chance to heal.

Enough poo. I call DD pickle or little lady. She understands and obeys "take your dummy out" and will pass things when requested (sometimes). And she'll give us a kiss when we ask her to, finally!

I'm enjoying a relaxing evening by myself while DH is out at a raucous karaoke party. When not pg (and, ahem, drinking) I'd be right up for it but at the moment I can't imagine anywhere I'd rather be than my own couch Blush Does anyone else sometimes think that having children makes them a bit dull?

Bearcrumble · 25/03/2011 20:09

Thank you both - it was horrid, really painful. I'm celebrating being able to eat again with cheap fried chicken!

I meant to explain about the nap theory. Today DS slept just over an hour this morning and would have slept more but I had to get him up at 11 to go out - he didn't really complain about being woken and was fine until three-ish when I took him out for a walk and he slept about 40 mins.

I reckon if I'd let him sleep two hours in the morning he wouldn't have got tired until about 4.30 and then that would have been such a late time for him to have his afternoon nap that we'd either skip it and he'd get overtired or we'd have it and then have to put bedtime back.

SconesForTea · 25/03/2011 20:12

X posted with bc glad your mouth is better.

I get thrush a lot too Blush particularly when pg - had it almost constantly last time. I don't find that the cream does anything at all in getting rid of it. I have to take several pessaries or the internal cream. All jollly nice.

Re sleep. I was labouring under the delusion (?) that there is no such thing as too muc sleep. I thought you should never wake a baby from a nap for instance. Perhaps my perspective is skewed as DD still takes very short naps (although afternoon nap an hour 20 today ) and I want her to have more daytime sleep, not less. Also I thought that daytime sleep begot nighttime sleep so more of one was good for the other?! Got most of this from a particular sleep book but I've read it in a few of them.

DD has been waking between 6-6.30am this week (with our without nighttime resettles) so we're going to leave her on GMT when the clocks go forward, put her to bed at 7 instead of 6 and hope she wakes up at a more reasonable 7 or 7.30. That's the theory. If it doesn't work I'll put her bedtime back to 6pm as she is always knackered by then.
