A few first birthdays left, then we're full tilt into walking/talking and a mountain of mischief Smile

She weighed a massive (for us anyway) 16lbs 3oz at nearly 12.5months. That puts back between 2nd and 9th. All that cake worked Grin

He was really nice actually (although he told me I could BF for as long as I wanted Hmm, but I appreciate the sentiment). He was reassuring about the food saying it's normal for them to only like one food group or food for a few weeks/months and they'll change to a new one.

BUT, she bit me in the middle of it, right on my arm Shock. I'm hoping it was a one off as she was scared.

IC How are you today?

Schro have been thinking about you as well, glad to hear a lot of your friends had moved on, but fingers crossed for the locals. We have a couple of Japanese people in our group and I have a friend in Tokyo, it has been interesting and :( to hear so much from them. We have been asked to double check our labs to earthquake proof things as some of our new stuff hasn't been done yet.

StoneBaby · 16/03/2011 18:24

PA good news on the weight.

DS bits too. He has bitten another kid at nursery today! Shock Blush

Is there a way to make them stop bitting?

I already see him been excluded from nursery at 13 months! [grin

PenguinArmy · 16/03/2011 18:31

The nursery should have a policy, but alas it as a stage and at this stage they are also quite young. I think nursery staff should kinda follow him for a bit to stop him before he bites (if it turns into a problem) and the two of you should come up with a strategy together.

They should already have experience with this. From reading other posts it seems a good thing to apologise to the other kids parents, just to acknowledge that you know your son is doing this and reassuring them you have a plan in place.

StoneBaby · 16/03/2011 18:44

Nursery has a policy but at the moment DS is too young for it (sigh of relief to that news). Both there and at home he gets told off, no, that it is bad and nursery put him aside for a few minutes to reinforce the message. DH thinks he bits because the others kids may be bothering him but I am not sure about this.

Hopefully TTSP to quote IC

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/03/2011 19:14

Hello Everyone

Good news on the weight, PA!

Bad news on the biting - but yes, I think it's a phase a lot of children go through. Not much fun at the time, but SBs quite right, TTSIndeedP

Well, I'm back home now and very touched by all your good wishes, thanks Smile
The ERPC went fine, Hospital La Paz (where DD was born) is very good and it was all tremendously efficient and I was well treated. I actually enjoyed the siesta part and being able to have an uninterrupted read of my book...!

Emotionally and physically I feel OK. A wee bit delicate and like I'm having a period, although the most painful thing is where they stuck the drips into the back of my hand Grin

Also, the doctor said I should be fine to breastfeed DD, so long as I expressed the first lot of milk and chucked it to eliminate any remaining anaesthesia. So in a mo I'm going to put her to bed (she's had a bit of a late night, but had a late nap and has been an angel all day for DH, bless her).

I feel better now the procedure it done and the pregnancy is officially over, even though it's a shame it ended this way. Next time lucky, eh?

Love to all

Hi IC glad you're back home and feeling okay. You're right to keep your spirits up. Now time to either have a Wine of port (unless you drunk everything yesterday) or go to bed and have some rest.

BabyGiraffes · 16/03/2011 20:21

IC Glad things went okay Smile

bethylou · 16/03/2011 22:50

IC Sorry I haven't been on since my post the other night to say how sorry I am that you have lost your baby. I'm glad today has gone as well as it could do and hope you will continue to feel physically well and that you and DH will be able to support each other with the emotions that you will both be daling with. From your description of your DH, he sounds fab and I'm sure he'll be a tower of strength when you need him to be. Sending lots of love.

CS as one who comes into contact with lots of DC who are late walkers, it is only considered to be an issue if they are not showing any interest at 18 months. However, if you've got any niggles about it, then do get her checked as early intervention is best for any problems that do exist. Personally, I don't value the opinion of my HV and would see the GP - yours might be better!

SB Our DS1 liked to be helped to walk up the stairs like yours is doing - maybe there's something in their name?!

Supposed to be working tomorrow as an extra day (and for the rest of the month) but my SIL is stuck in Oxford with a broken down car. We're awaiting news from Mr RAC and are contemplating what we do tomorrow if he can't get the car going. Bugger!

bethylou · 16/03/2011 22:52

(SIL is supposed to be minding DS2 so that I can work. My mum has been bitten by her dogs in a fight today so she can't help either!)

StoneBaby · 17/03/2011 08:03

DS is very clingy at the moment. Crying as soon as I leave him but fine within 2mn if he doesn't see me.

IC hope your night went well.

bethy maybe it's in the name or it can also be that he is sturborn, determined and so adorable! Wink that we are not stopping him doing it.

StoneBaby · 17/03/2011 08:04

bethy hope you managed to find a solution for your child care today.

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 17/03/2011 11:05

Yoohoo Shamrock St patrick! Pass a Guiness around, exactly what you all need!

Good to hear it went well IC. I hope that you have some support locally (both you and your DH), if not there is the MC threads here with some lovely ladies.
bethy! IC's DH is lurking he is going to have an inflated head Wink

SB DD2 is physically advanced, for the rest she is definitely a 1 yo if not younger. If I lied about her age, I would have more Hmm. Grin

bethy hope everything has been sorted. Bitten by her dog Shock, is your mum OK?

DD2 has bitten a lot (mainly me and her sister) it has taken several months to make her stop.

IC, and all of you, have you heard of miniland educational? It is like the spanish version of the ELC but without the sicky pink everything.
I just bought a doll for DD2 described as latinoamerican (looks more indian to me but he!) very cute and no phtalate. They have boys as well and most skin colors. I bought it for DD1's sake though as she stated that black people are ugly Shock. But then she never met one here and romanian are really racist too Sad.
You should see how they treat the gypsies Blush.

oops dd2 is awake

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/03/2011 12:51

Happy Shamrock everyone!

Thanks bethy. I reckon DH and I will get over it fairly quickly. DH said he felt a wave of disappointment when he realised what the scan was showing us, but after that his primary concern was that I was alright.

Heh, yes he does lurk, but not usually on this thread unless I give him express permission...!

My night was okay, thanks SB. DD woke once, but resettled without too much messing about, so I got a reasonable amount of sleep and physically I was fine.

I had another upset today when I realised I'd lost my wedding ring in the course of yesterday's doings at the hospital. It's not the end of the world, of course, but not exactly what I needed right now. It was my own fault for not putting it somewhere properly safe, but even so.....

No, haven't heard of that Shro

I hope you got it sorted OK today, bethy

OP posts:
SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 17/03/2011 14:56

forgot the link miniland
sorry about your ring, can you check with the hospital?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/03/2011 15:24

We have...unfortunately I'm fairly sure it fell out of the little case where I'd put it and into one of the bin bags they gave me for my clothes and shoes. I expect they will have simply scooped up the used bags and chucked them straight in the bin without checking them first (they would have looked empty anyway, to be fair)

OP posts:
SconesForTea · 17/03/2011 15:25

IC glad to hear it went well for you. Sad at the wedding ring. Do contact the hospital, you never know.

bethy hope you got your childcare sorted (how is your poor mum? Shock).

I'm afraid I'm feeling very sorry for myself today. Tired (of course Hmm), feeling sick, chilly, I need to snap out of it. I've just had Brew and Biscuits which should help.

Happy Shamrock is anyone celebrating? I was meant to be heading to London to go out with my family, but have pulled out (a night out? No way!).

SconesForTea · 17/03/2011 15:25

X posted IC. Sad

dd2 made me laugh earlier. She stood at the coffee table (well, blanket box) and did a poo, then looked behind her (!!), then grinned and patted her nappied bottom ('It's alright, it's all in there mama')Grin Sometimes wonder what goes through her mind! She still doesn't say much but clearly understands quite a lot.

BabyGiraffes · 17/03/2011 20:16

Shamrock Smile

Schrodinger Sad you dd probably hears a lot of that attitude in kindergarten. I find it quite sad.
Thanks for the link, too. Would love to get dd1 a marble run but don't think my nerves would cope with dd2 trying to eat them!

IC glad you are feeling okay, all things considered. What a bummer about the ring though!! Sad

scones try to get as much rest as you can (difficult, I know). I think I was 'lucky' being pregnant with dd2 because I had just been made redundant and was at home but dd1 kept her (workplace) nursery place for a few extra weeks (because they thought I'd get a new job pretty quickly). If I remember rightly I spent quite a bit of time just lying down and feeling sorry for myself Smile

bethylou · 17/03/2011 21:03

IC what a disaster. I lost my engagement ring for a week at one point and was gutted, so know how you feel. If it really has gone, DH will simply have to help you choose a replacement. Glad he is being his usual lovely self.

For a little light relief, here's how we resolved the childcare issue today:

  1. Waited up till 11:45p.m. for RAC man to rescue SIL - told her what we told her 3 hours earlier - i.e. that it couldn't be mended on the side of the road.
  2. Went to sleep for an hour before DS2 coughed himself awake and then played loudly in his cot for an hour.
  3. Went back to sleep till 4a.m when he repeated the earlier night shuffles.
  4. Got up at 6a.m. DH ambled round the house in his normal laid back fashion and then drove like a maniac to Oxford to collect SIL.
  5. Cue Bethylou attempting to get both boys up, washed, dressed, fed and out in under an hour to get DS1 to nursery and DS2 back home to await DH and SIL's return. (and managed it - I am offically a superhero Grin!!)
  6. Got to work with 3 minutes to spare and had great work day.
  7. Got home and then made tea and looked after both boys until sleep time while DH drove SIL back again.

And all of the above with a migraine.

I might have got paid £180 (before removing childcare, tax etc..), but I'm not sure it was all worth it!!

It's amazing what you can do when forced (and sponsored by coca cola, which seems to help my migraines!)

My mum, having won a second and fifth at Crufts last week (with her dogs, not on her own!), split up a fight between two of her rat-sized dogs and came off a lot worse than they did (but they are probably worth more financially than she is Wink) She has 6 proper, albeit small, dog bits on one hand and one on her other thumb)

.

Stangirl · 18/03/2011 00:21

IC I have only just caught up with your sad news. Like others on this thread, I too have suffered a mc and know just how awful it can feel. In my case I tried to let it happen naturally - a big mistake - it was a twin miscarriage and I ended up in hospital 3 times through a combination of extreme pain and excessive blood loss over a period of weeks. Wish I'd gone straight for the D&C - you chose wisely. Like many others I went on to have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and birth - in fact thinking about it, all my friends with kids have experienced a mc somewhere along the line. Thinking of you and your DH.

Had an awful scare today. DD had a rough night - woke twice, wouldn't settle. No other symptoms. Gave calpol in the morning and took her to nursery. Nursery phoned at 1pm saying she was running a temp of over 40 and was convulsing. Rushed her to walk in GP as her temp dropped and she seemed a bit more comfortable. GP examined her and ordered ambulance to take her to hospital with suspected meningitis. She was started on IV anti-biotics and is now in St Thomas' for a couple of days. She seems fine now though and it's probably only a throat infection. I'm at home as I have my 22 week scan early tomorrow. DP will now miss this as he is in hospital with DD. As he said "Our little drama queen here has already started to scene steal from her sibling".

PenguinArmy · 18/03/2011 02:06

Oh my word SG Shock

I hope everything is alright and good luck with the scan tomorrow.

I got sent a carton of formula in the post yesterday. Am assuming my details came from the obst. I have yet to see. Considering I am still in 1T. The landlady if she had of seen it would soon have figured it out. I will be having words when I see them next week. I am also going to refuse an internal as they seem keen on doing those over here, but at the same time I would like confirmation that I am pg. I assume I am far enough along now for an external ultrasound.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/03/2011 07:27

Shock Oh, SG, how terrifying for you. I'm very relieved to hear it doesn't look too serious after all. Poor little DD, I hope she recovers quickly.

Your twin mc sounds grim too, poor you. I must say, I wasn't given the choice to just wait it out here - I think the Spanish are much quicker to use a medical procedure when it comes to pregnancy than in the UK. It's the same with C sections. They have one of the highest rate of C sections in Europe - but also one of the lowest infant mortality rates, so I guess their approach of not taking any chances pays off in that regard. They also scan much more often during pg as well (every time you see the obstetrician, as well as the "main" scans, which you have with a proper radiologist).

Hmm on the formula delivery, PG - sounds rather cynical to me. As you say, good job you were able to intercept it.

Well done on managing those complicated logistics with a migraine and not enough sleep, bethy! Blimey, you deserve a medal for that lot.

Grin at your cheeky DD2, BG

Well, DD was a bit wakeful again last night - once at around 23.30, but settled back fairly quickly after a feed, then again at around 02.30, but only did a few intermittent wails, so I left her to resettle herself, which she did after about 20 mins. Naturally I was wide awake the whole time, though. But noisy neighbours (upstairs was entertaining) and barking dogs aside (the ones that live below us were being a bit excitable for some reason) it could have been worse Smile
