Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TribbleWithoutACause · 09/04/2011 11:10

We've ended up at the Docs again this morning as DS got a rash and a raised temp.

Doc said he's got that Slapped Cheek virus. For a minute there with that rash I thought the worse. It's so hard not to worry isn't it.

We're back home now armed with yet more calpol and baby neurofen. I can't wait for this to be over.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 09/04/2011 14:57

Sorry to hear your DS has slapped cheek/fifth disease. I do wonder how they get it. I hope he feels better soon. Cool flannels dipped in chamomile water on his face may be soothing.

tiredfeet · 09/04/2011 19:02

Oh tribble you are having a bit of a time with it, poor ds. I would have worried too.

Can I ask what peoples day time routines are like now? Ds seems to be going more like three hours betwwen naps, so just to naps a day, but this has happened all of a sudden these last few days, so not sure if its just because there's so much going on as we're away.

TysonSnowflower · 09/04/2011 19:12

Ok have to think re routine,
Sophie wakes at 6am, has a bottle and clean nappy then sleeps till 10am.
10am she has her brekkie and more milk, stays awake for a couple of hours, so about 1pm she goes sleep for about an hour and a half, then she has a bottle, dinner abit later and bed by 7pm, she has another bottle at 10pm +
Im pretty chilled out regarding routine though as i go with the flow, learnt that with ds :)

HarrietJones · 09/04/2011 19:27

Poor DS tribble.

HarrietJones · 09/04/2011 19:29

SeaShellsHasSandInHerShoes · 09/04/2011 20:36

Hello! On holiday and poor Internet so just flying thorugh to say love the name changes :) dd is fab and the in laws are smitten (phew) Grin

shieldbug · 09/04/2011 20:59

hello all! Have just spent so long catching up with the chat I've hardly got time to post!
Ds is doing well. Was christened on Mothers' Day and my folks were able to come across, so it was the first Mothers' Day I've had with my Mum for ages. The whole weekend was so special and ds smiled at everybody.
I'm struggling to keep up with some of the name changes. I won't be changing mine because I'll only confuse myself!
HJ sorry to hear about the PND- hope you fee3l better soon. Look after yourself.
NoHUn Maverick looks so like you! He's gorgeous.
I've started weaning Harry (he's just over 5 months), but we're going very slowly, so it's just baby rice at the mo. When did others progress to more exciting food, and when did you go to more than one mush feed in a day? He's so keen, he's been making chomping noises every time we eat, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to give him too much too soon. I'm also not sure how much to give him each feed as he noshes as much rice as I offer.
Sorry, lots of newbie Mum questions!

TribbleWithoutACause · 09/04/2011 21:15

Normal routine is:

6.15amish: Wakes for feed.
6.30amish: Either goes back to sleep or plays with Daddy for a bit before work.
8am: Feed
8- 9am: Nap for twenty minutes.
11am: Feed, we're normally out at this point so it's coffee/cake/play time.
11.45am: Nap
12.30pm: Feed.
12.40pm: Playtime
2pmish: Feed
2.30pm: Could nap potentially, but may stay awake to play.
4pmish: Feed
5pm: Highchair time, I cook tea
5.45pm: Sometimes has a five minute doze
6pm: tea time for us.
6.30pm: bath time.
7pm: Bed time, feed.
10 - 11pm: dream feed.
4.30am: wakes for feed.

NoHunIntended · 10/04/2011 00:56

Never heard of slapped cheek - doesn't sound nice though. Poor babies. Hope your DS gets better soon, Tribble.

shieldbug, your Mother's Day/Christening sounds perfect. Lucky you.
And ah bless you re saying my baby is gorgeous! Thank you! I think so too! Though I don't see much of a resemblance to me or his father. Think he has my mother's nose for sure though, so he must be my baby!

Started BLW today, on DS's six-month birthday! He was given a small vegan-bacon sandwich, carrot and houmous, and pizza (not all at the same time!)! He seemed to be teething a bit worse today though, so didn't attack his food with as much gusto as I think he will under normal circumstances.

Re routine, we don't really have one, we are very laissez faire, but generally, we are lazy, go to bed late, and get up late! :) By late, I mean DS and I are not normally in bed before 1 a.m., and then up at around 11 mid-morning - we co-sleep so he may have a feed or two during these times, but I don't bother checking the time, and it barely disturbs me. Staying up late suits us, as it means DH gets loads of quality time with us when he gets in from work. And I have always been a night owl anyway.
I feed on demand and don't pay any attention to the time.

SpringFlowers · 10/04/2011 08:53

We sort of have a routine but tend to go with the flow...
Wake up 6am
Milk somewhere between 6 and 8 depending when I fed in the early hours She also has some kind of baby breakfast at this time
8 am sleep 45 mins
Awake playing/talking etc til 11 ish - more milk
Sleep for a couple of hours maybe til 1
Lunch - some kind of purée and milk
Awake and playing
The rest of the day is a bit more random - she will sleep again for a total of about 1-2 hours but not always at the same time
5 pm bath
Between 6 - 7 she is usually ready for bed - we put her down on her side if our bed
During the night I often feed every 2/3 hours but it's a very sleepy sort of feeding!

HarrietJones · 10/04/2011 09:31

Nights sound like us spring

Fromage frais, rice cakes and banana for breakfast. She insisted on keeping the spoon for the fromage frais & went through 6 in the end, kept wanting more! Love how enthusiastic she is

TysonSnowflower · 10/04/2011 18:47

Hello, just want to complain,
I have just packed like a whirlwind all day as we are moving house in 4 weeks. Now my back is killing.
But on an up, Sophie enjoyed sitting in her Bumbo today watching me struggle Grin

HarrietJones · 10/04/2011 19:27

Ooh good luck with the packing.

We've spent the day in the garden again. Think the tent will be my home for the summer.

SpringFlowers · 10/04/2011 21:10

Good luck Tyson - we moved three weeks ago and it was tough. At the time I thought it was ok but once we'd moved the tiredness really hit me. Take it easy and try not to overdo it.

I'm going to hospital tomorrow for the pre op stuff prior to my surgery next Monday. I'm dreading the whole thing and wish it didn't have to happen. I'm really worried about R and how she will feed/sleep too. I can't feed her for a day as the anaesthetic has to be out of the milk. I'm expressing ready but she won't take it out of any cups or bottles. I'm going to try her with watered down juice at the end of this week on the hope that she will like it and dh can give her some to prevent dehydration. I'm feeling quite sad about the whole thing.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 11/04/2011 08:08

Sad Springflowers. She will cope and adapt. I was away from DD for 2 daytimes at the end of Jan and she took a bottle from my mum when she was pretty reluctant to take it from me. She apparently dived upon the expressed milk and was very happy about it. If you don't mind me asking, and sorry if I missed it before, but whats the op for?

Tyson, I hope that the move goes well. I've moved 7 times in 9 years so I know how you feel.

HarrietJones · 11/04/2011 09:07

Spring, are you sure about anaesthetic? I've had GA for sections and fed asap. So you may be able to feed if dh brings her in if you ask for a different one? Understandable if you aren't physically up to it.

NoHunIntended · 11/04/2011 19:13

Spring, I think I missed it if you mentioned this op before too. Best of luck, hope it went ok today. And hope R feeds/sleeps well. I have no personal experience, but what Mock says makes sense to me - they do just cope - survival instinct is strong, and if she is hungry, she'll eat! x

Good luck with the move, Tyson. Are you going far?
Mock, seven times in nine years??? Yikes! I've been here for seven years, want to move now! Served me well when I was young, free and single (well, two out of three!), but not ideal for us with a family. We are having a major de-junk in order to not have such a horrendous packing job when we ever eventually move (not that we are even seriously looking, not on the cards for at least a year).

BLW is going GREAT! DS has chomped some broccoli and pasta, pizza, houmous, carrot, um, maybe some other things, can't remember now! Want to make him pancakes too, he looked so keen on those when DH and I were eating them the other day!

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 11/04/2011 19:18

I was thinking about doing DD pancakes as well NoHun. She's 6 months on Thursday- it'll be like a mini birthday Grin. Out of interest- whats in a vegan bacon sandwich?

EggTYmer · 11/04/2011 19:34

Hi its Tyson, easter changing name,
Dont know yet nohun, down to the council.
Dd has a cold so just as I was getting into a feeding solids routine, she is going to sleep for hours and be grumpy when i do wake her.

SpringFlowers · 11/04/2011 19:50

Thanks for messages. I don't know if you remember, when we were pregnant I grew a cyst in my ovary. Unfortunately it didn't ever go so needs to be removed. I've had a few scans and it seems it is in my Fallopian tube and not ovary. It's the size of an orange so big enough. I can't breadtfeed after a general anaesthetic for 24 hours - everyone knows I am breadtfeedingso I assume if there were another option I'd have been offered it. Luckily we have private healthcare so it is at least being done in comfort. They gave been brilliant about Ruby and very considerate regarding feeding her and expressing milk. It's key hole surgery so three small holes in the tummy. The appointment today was reassuring but I'm very nervous.

I'm really squeamish about blw so am doing a combination of purees and finger food. R doesn't like the food going down and I can't bear seeing her gag. I don't want her to associate food with panicking. She seems romping weetabix and spinach in particular - although not together!

HarrietJones · 11/04/2011 20:41

ARRRGGGHHHH! Iphone down, cant get hep til tomorriow!

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 11/04/2011 21:02

SF I thought it was the cyst but I wasn't sure. Good luck- as its keyhole, the recovery should be good.

Thats not good Harriet Sad for you.

sam12 · 11/04/2011 21:35

Hi. Just popping in to say hello. Getting very confused with all the name changes- I've been wanting to do mine for ages I must get round to it soon.
Nohun, tribble I can't believe your LOs are in 6-9- mine has gone to bed in new baby pjs tonight and they fit fine! Have started dressing her in some 3-6 clothes but only because I was sick of seeing all her 0-3 ones!
Good luck with the moving Egg.
Spring good luck with the surgery hope it all goes well.
DD has been poorly so last week was very tiring- she is fine now just got a really chesty cough. DH is off to Docs in the morning so he is taking her with him to get it checked out. She was really into food before being ill and now she is just not interested. I'm trying not to worry and just keep offering her things but I am like you Spring and get a bit worried doing blw especially since she has made herself sick choking a few times.

SpringFlowers · 11/04/2011 21:37

Don't know where the romping came from. Once handed iPhone posting while feeding is not good!
