Here we go, down the slippery slope of parenthood. Slippery thanks to the poos, wees, leaky boobs and goodness knows what else :o :o

We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

Hey it's past 4pm, I'll take the Wine now :)

Links aren't working crysty

OP posts:
RockLover · 08/03/2011 17:23

Wish I could stay in my PJs Crysty, but have the school run to do in the afternoon and after all the threads on MN about mums turning up to school in nightwear I am not going to make that faux pas lol.

Welcome RedEm, I'm sure you'll love MN, it's a very addictive site!

I have managed to prepare and cook a roast dinner whilst juggling a crying baby and then giving him a feed in the middle of my veg prep. I am better at this SAHM business than I thought Grin.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 08/03/2011 17:24

Hurrah - links work :) Prefer the first one but Shock at the prices!!! We have a very basic one from mothercare which has lots of holes on the arches for lots of clipping possibilities, and it has a squeaker, rustly thing, mirror and flappy bits in the mat itself for floor entertainment. Other than some option to play music (which ours doesn't have), it's done us the job nicely.

Did you speak to your HV about your bleeding btw crysty

OP posts:
Crystyclear · 08/03/2011 17:34

to you rock. me and LO are still dancing round the kitchen in pajamas yoga wear. but have done a bit tidying and sorted out new wardrobe for this growing lad. have got my first bundle of clothes that are too small. Sad

the prices of the mats are def Shock. wouldn't even consider, but i have a voucher to spend... Grin

bubba HV tomorrow and then docs. bleeding appears to have slowed, but def want it checked just to be on the safe side.

RockLover · 08/03/2011 17:35

Ok, so not so great a SAHM, have burnt the parsnips again! I keep forgetting you can't put a tray directly on the bottom shelf of the oven because everything on said tray burns to a crisp!

Dammmit! Now we only have carrots for veg :(.

RunningKatie · 08/03/2011 17:42

evening

Just feeding madam, she's taken to pulling off the nipple which is just excruciating so I've been googling that. She whinged/fed until 11.40 last night, no idea if it's the wind as she;s trumping like a trooper.

Crysty - DPs work gave us this gym, it's gorgeous but at the moment dd can't focus on the higher toys, it doesn't have hooks to add more things but we have looped a few things onto it.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 08/03/2011 19:54

That's really lovely running sooo sweet.

Is it wrong for my children to have eaten pancakes with cheese, ham, blueberries, kiwi fruit, bananas, sugar and lemon ... ALL ON ONE PANCAKE??! Honestly, they're gross :o

OP posts:
Fuzzywood · 08/03/2011 20:00

I like the first one too Crysty, yours is lovely too Running ours is on it's 4th baby now, 2 nieces and DD, but is still much appreciated by Evan. One thing I would say is don't hang too many things on it at once at this age as it freaks them out. Think the technical term is over stimulated but either way it makes them flippin difficult to settle.
Another lovely day at my parents house, have eaten my body weight in pancakes so not planning on moving from the sofa for a while!
Thanks for the eczema tip Crysty if you get time to check out if it can be used on little ones that would be great . My mum and MIL both have aloe vera plants.
Welcome Redem Smile

Fuzzywood · 08/03/2011 20:02

X post Bubba that's one serious pancake Grin. I'm a lemon, sugar and currants girl myself but whatever does it for them!

LadyBuzz · 08/03/2011 20:08

bubba them pancakes sound lush Hmm

DS1 did want all of the toppings together but was otherwise persuaded!

redem welcome to MN, its great Grin

We have solved our evening whinging problem and Kali now goes to bed upstairs at around 7:30 and has so far stayed put for 3 nights!

I'm shattered, i'm now on an excersise kick and have been to Zumba tonight - it is very very hard work but loads of fun!

running that mat is gorgeous, and crystyl I like both of those - hard choice!

rock hope you feel better soon.

gallicgirl · 08/03/2011 20:09

Hi girls, can I ask how much your babies throw up?

It seems to be really difficult to get burps out of DD sometimes no matter how long we try. Think she's ok and then some time after feeding (could be 30 minutes or more) she will just throw up a bit of milk. Well, enough milk to warrant a change of clothes, definitely not just a bit of spit-up. This is after every feed pretty much but I just don't know if it's normal or not. I don't remember my nieces and nephew being like this.

Going to speak to the HV about it when she comes to do 6 week check tomorrow.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 08/03/2011 20:32

Quick reply to gallic L was throwing up quite a bit of milk a couple of weeks back after each feed for a few days, and like you, I was trying to burp him but regardless of whether or not he'd burped, he chucked up a big amount. What I read was to keep him upright for at least 20 mins and that seems to have done the trick with him. Failing that, it might be worth considering reflux... :(

OP posts:
saltnvinigarcrips · 08/03/2011 20:44

Hmm, that's a little like my ds gallic but it is more like spit up than actual sick. I was a bit concerned as fed, winded and then he was napping so I took an opportunity to shower and then when I came out the shower he had spit up over himself and was just lying there. Thank god it wasn't anything more!! Shock
Well I didn't have enough milk for pancakes tonight Sad despite going out earlier and buying eggs and flour so we are just going to have to have our pancake day tomorrow but I am definitely a lemon and sugar girl myself as is dh.

Had a nice day today, finally got out of the house after having spent the past couple of days trapped in doors with clingy whingey baby. We went to the park and I had a hot chocolate, a pastry and some maltesers whilst watching the ducks. Henry was fast asleep and so didn't appreciate any of it despite me trying to wake him up for a cuddle. Never realised how parks are just filled with mums and their prams during the day. It was such a nice day today but I have to admit to feeling a little bit lonely watching all the other mums with their mum friends. I need some other mum friend people in RL I realise so may have to brave another coffee morning!
DS spots are looking better but does have really dry skin but not sure if it is excema (sp?)I thought you shouldn't put anything on babys skin when they are newborn otherwise I would try something. Let me know if aloe vera works crysty.
Also feeling slightly guilty now after realising everyone else has been stimulting their babies with play mats. No wonder ds cries so much - he is clearly bored and needs some fun so I will be getting out my playmat tomorrow and see how he likes it. Tried it in the first week and he didn't even know it was there so thought it might still be a bit early. Anything to keep him occupied while I can get on with things. Seriously don't know how you with more than 1 child manage!!

Hope you have a better night tonight rock and welcome redem. Is this your first dc?

saltnvinigarcrips · 08/03/2011 20:46

cupcakes hope Jesse is feeling less windy. running DS farts like an adult male. The hv told me to stop eating vegetables and fruit and eat more carbs!! I took that as a green light to shove more chocolate in my mouth :)

Crystyclear · 08/03/2011 22:35

just been trying to check the official advice re: aloe vera and newborns.

as per usual... no one has done any proper research as it's a natural remedy.

however, aloe vera gel - aloe + water + glycerine is ok for babies and encouraged for eczema treatment. aloe is also in lots of baby products.

personally, i'd use it. if at all concerned about the potency, perhaps mash the aloe juice with a little sterilised water before application and spot test

i'm also the proud mother of a son who farts v. loudly and often... whilst smiling. i can see the teenager already! Grin

Fuzzywood · 08/03/2011 22:47

Thanks for that Crysty, I've got our 6 week checks on Friday so will see what the GP thinks as well. Though I found with DD's eczema the docs and HV were a little bit non commital, think it'll be a bit of trial and error to get it sorted. It doesn't seem to be bothering him but some if it looks really sore Sad.

My little man farts like a big man too Smile he also did an impressive poo tonight that resulted in a complete outfit change and masses of baby wipes, nice!

Right think I'm heading for bed, fingers crossed for a good night all round.

LadyBuzz · 09/03/2011 08:27

I got my first smile Grin at 3am Hmm

Kali also farts like a man in public so people look at me Grin

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 09/03/2011 08:46

YAY for the smile LadyB, even if it was at fart o'clock (copywrite of that goes to crysty)

L does big gooey smiles at stupid o'clock too. Can't help myself but smile back.

We had bad wind, a bit of sick, leaky nappy and a change of clothing last night - (and that was just the DH :o :o) - so feeling gooooooood this morning Hmm

OP posts:
travispickles · 09/03/2011 09:42

I have been spoilt up til now. Saskia had me awake from 3am. Am utterly shattered. My Dsis is coming round soon - she of the no kids, no idea etc. So that should be interesting!

Crystyclear · 09/03/2011 10:03

ladyb that's lovely! i keep kidding myself that DS is smiling, but it's wind really! Can't wait for the first real smile!

no pancakes for me as forgot to go shopping... ah well. i did wolf about 4 in one go in the last week of pregnancy whilst having a mad craving.

oh and I'm right fussy with pancakes - sugar and lemon juice only. [weirdo emoticon]

still have v. windy baby - crying after feeds and just after he's settled to sleep. he's not sicking up as much, but gallic he was and had less wind.

feel like it's going to be another "can't get a thing done" day. am wondering how anyone coped without online shops and the internet...

Crystyclear · 09/03/2011 10:06

x-post with travis

suggest you hand saskia over and go have a nice bath. your DSis will be fine (and prob love the cuddles) and you'll get a little bit of relaxation.

CupcakesHay · 09/03/2011 10:51

ok - skim read - is that bad? Smile - I have rainforest acitivyty mat - got it from gumtree though. is fab - ds loves it - and it means i can dump him on it and run to bathroom for a quick wee! Blush

Grin @rock burning parsnips!

gallic Jesse exactly same on throwing up front - depending on how much he throws up - if it's not through to vest, i just stuff a bit of cotton wool between layers and put him back to sleep. not sure if that's wrong - but sometimes - needs must!

crysty I wonder how you cope doing anything - i can only get stuff done when i pass DS to a willing grandad or nanny!

I also have windy smiles that i kid myself are the real thing! One day maybe...?

Went to hospital yesterday for pre-appt for lip - Jesse brill whole time til we got home - so can't complain. Off to Bristol with him tomorrow for another appt. God i'm shattered thinking about it!

Had a funny morning - Ds threw up, then weed on himself, then had HUGE explosive poo which got all over clothes (amazing - hasn't happened since he was a newborn!), and then we did a bath and then he weed on himself again! Grin -Does anyone's DC manage to stay in same outfit for more than 12 hours???

salt did you not consider using your breast milk for the pancakes! ha ha! Wink

god i miss coming on here gossiping - i think it'll be easier when i'm back in syria - DS will be older and i'll have bouncy chair to sit him in whilst ignoring him and mumsnetting gently rocking him with my foot.

Bugger - crying baby.... boob machine time!

hello to anyone i've missed and kisses to babies

RockLover · 09/03/2011 11:55

Hi ladies! Travis, my HV and MW said to use olive oil on dry skin whilst babies are so young, so I am doing that with George as he has alot of flaking skin around his eyes and forehead. He also has loads of spots on his forehead, face and neck, but he still looks cute Grin.

Ladybuzz George has been smiling since about 3 weeks, at first I thought they were just wind until I noticed he smiled at specific things like seeing our faces up close and certain brightly coloured toys he has. Even the HV commented on her visit that he was smiling, so I guess it's not unusual for babies to smile early. His smiles are much bigger now and light up his whole face, they are absolutely heart melting. :)

Cupcakes George NEVER stays in clothes for an entire day, mainly because all the nappies we have tried seem to leak pee up his back. I always make sure the nappy is fastened as tightly as possible, but we still get the wet back problem. In fact last night we laid him on the bed to kick about whilst we got into our night clothes and he had a wee whick leaked through the quilt and right down to the mattress.

Cue a change of bedding and having to turn the mattress over. Can anybody recommend a make of nappy that doesn't leak so readily? Unless George has the weeing power of a fire engine hose or something!

And re the parsnips, I think I am steering clear of roasting them for a while, I'm going to use the rest of them to make a soup with the left over roast chicken.

We didn't do pancakes either Salt, the frying pan we have is a bit crap for cooking pancakes (and omelettes as I found to my cost) and they stuck to the pan. So will be off to buy a decent non-stick pan this afternoon before I pick up DD from school.

Right I better go, I have a HUGE amount of housework to do, this place is a bloody tip! Still have all last night's roast pans and plates to wash up, plus the lounge and our bedroom are bomb sites covered with baby mess/equipment. Urgh. :(

RunningKatie · 09/03/2011 16:51

I forgot about pancake day Shock

Been to another breastfeeding club, and got told about another mum and baby club whilst I was there so that's useful.

DP goes away on Tuesday for 3 days, anyone got any top tips on what I can do now to make it easier? I've sorted out madam's clothes so all the right sizes are to hand, and I'm going to get food that's easy to grab. Following week he's away for 5 days so he's breaking us in easily!

Yay for other windy babies, am so glad it's not just us. And Cupcakes - not a chance that she'll stay in the same outfit all day. She likes Mummy doing the washing far too much, I have to be useful whilst I'm off work obviously.
