We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

hi all,

lovely poem rock

sorry people are feeling poorly with stitches etc. i've got the itchiness, but generally ok (except of course for the never-ending tiredness!)

i'd love to bath with DS, but bit nervous about getting in and out on my own. anybody got any tips?

just had a two week weight check and DS has now put on 1 pound overall... blimey! now i understand all the mahoosive feeds and super late nights!!

cupcakes i'm all good to drive and have now done a few trips out and about.. including registering him.

let me know when's good for you both x

right... must take advantage of sleepy baby and go cook dinner.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 25/02/2011 19:11

crysty can't remember if you had a c-section or not? If not, then this is what I do for successful baths in our quite cold bathroom; get the baby towel, nappy and sleepsuit/clothes ready for L on the floor of the bathroom, (and I put the baby towel on top of other towels with their edges hanging over the sides to give more comfort and to add to the wrapping of him later), then I get my towel and clothes/PJs ready and change L on the towel, and carry him with me in to the bath (I often use the DDs' non-slip bathmat). I have handles on my bath too though, which helps loads!
Enjoy a hopefully poo-free bath with L (he often feeds too) then after the bath, we climb out very gingerly (def with bathmats out to avoid slipping), lay L down on his towel, pat him dry and fold extra towels over him too to keep him warm while I rush-dry myself and put PJs on, then get him dressed, nappy first while keeping towels on top of him(so rest of him doesn't get cold) and voila, a happy, stress-free bath :)

Anyone got any knowledge/experience of reflux? L's been big-time sick now about five times in the past couple of days, mostly just in the milky form it's gone in as, but once or twice the more curdled/digested look :( Don't know if it's normal; both DDs didn't even posset unless properly sick/ill.

gallicgirl · 25/02/2011 19:51

I have loads of breast milk storage bags that I won't use so pm me an address if anyone wants them.

I've not only had projectile milk regurgitation several times but this morning, DD squirted a horizontal liquid poo right into my hand, across the floor and into the top'n'tail bowl. eewwww

However had a little walk out this afternoon and found the cutest dress for DD to wear later in year.

:)

Really struggling to get George to sleep in is moses basket at all this evening which does not bode well for tonight.

Every time I put him down he starts flailing his arms and legs around and making huge amounts of noise then wakes himself up almost instantaneously. The longest he will ever sleep in it now is 2 hours, hence I'm not getting much sleep at night any more. Especially as I have to wander around rocking him for a good hour in a bid to get him down in the first place.

He has decided he doesn't want to sleep on me anymore and he no longer likes being put on the bed. I'm really running out of options, is anyone else having this problem?

Crystyclear · 25/02/2011 20:39

thanks bubba will def try the bath, prob with someone else around the first time ... just for peace of mind.

reflux - there's a brilliant thread on the BF forum on here or www.kellymom.com as well. DS gets it minorly. i've found that holding him more upright to feed and stop/starting his feeds to wind him really help.

rock?? that's tricky with sleeping. MW recommended, and it worked, getting someone else to put DS down, as they don't smell of breastmilk, which sends out the "more food?" message to DS!. maybe your mum or dad or DH when you get home could help.

RockLover · 25/02/2011 21:15

Thanks Crysty, that might be a good idea as although I'm FF him my boobs still leak every time he cries.

Also to all those who are feeling itchy down below, are you using anything for it? It's starting to disturb my sleep now, I'm presuming I can use cream for the outside itching, but I am also itching inside, it's infuriating.

Geore is actually asleep for the time being which is good as I am trying to increase the length between feeds, he's generally asking for a feed around every 2 hours or so. According to the instructions on the SMA tin, they should be having 6 feeds in 24 hours, which means George seems to be feeding far too much, I'm getting paranoid about giving him too much.

gallicgirl · 25/02/2011 22:47

rock are you FF?

I would suggest that if you give baby too much, he will just throw it all up so don't worry. If he's eating it then he needs it. Also, don't pay too much attention to the instructions on the tin. 6-8 feeds is fine. How much is George taking?

Alys was having 90-120 ml at 2 weeks, we moved up to 150ml early on last week I think and we've started making up 180ml this week because she started feeding more frequently, but not expecting her to actually take 180ml. She typically takes 130 - 160 ml every 4 hours.

Also, I've noticed a huge difference if she doesn't get winded properly. She won't eat as much or settle. Hope that helps and you get some rest.

travispickles · 26/02/2011 11:26

Hi all!
Well decided to try and get Saskia to sleep in her moses basket earlier last night but we were up and down to her crying. She eventually settled at about half nine and slept til I woke up, looked at the clock and thought "Shit! It's half five, she has slept through." I woke her in a panic. before realising it was 12.25. [crazy mother emoticon]!! Won't do that again! Anyway, got the baby week by week' today and it says that at 4 weeks they are most awake in the evening and there is no point trying to make them sleep early - work round their sleepy time. So rthat has put paid to that notion, thank god! It's a really helpful book, wish I'd got it for weeks1-4!!
Hope you all ok and well rested WinkHmm

RockLover · 26/02/2011 13:29

Thanks Gallic, George is having 90-120ml every 2.5-3 hours.

Ok, scar problem, the skin above and below the middle of my scar has become inflamed and doesn't smell too nice (but not gross either). The scar itself seems to be ok, so I think it's due to sweating too much. My mum is buying me some gauze as we speak, do I need to go to the drop in centre to get it checked?

gallicgirl · 26/02/2011 13:51

I think I'd be inclined to get it checked. If it is an infection and it gets a hold because you haven't had it checked, then it could be difficult to shift. Good luck and I hope it feels better soon.

CupcakesHay · 26/02/2011 14:08

rock - i agree get it checked - mine's itchy but not driving me nuts itchy, IYSWIM. And yes - agree with crysty - Jesse can "smell" me sometimes - so get someone else to ry putting him down. When Jesse was bad the last couple of days - i was rocking to sleep - and passing him to dad and dad putting him down - seemed to work.

Ok - this is AWFUL - DS almost slid off bed yesterday Sad I just finished feedign him and put him down and had my hand on him and was grabbing his blanket to wrap him in and i felt him sliding - luckily grabbed him, btu he woke up - threw up (luckily realised in time, and he threw up all over me than himself) and then i cried and cried and cried as he happily fed away. Sad it was so so so scary. texted DH (even though it was 4am) but still today, feel so bad.

*gallic8 just ordered 25 milk storage bags - but if you still have them going, i'll take them off your hands Wink as planning to express for a while!

bubba bath sounds lovely - think i'm going to try back in syria where the bath is a bit bigger! I lovethe idea of DS feeding in the bath - although not so sure about the poo Grin

Those of you with sons - do you get weed on all the time when you are changing the nappies? Even moving his outfits out of the way i'm getting through 3-4 outfits a day cos of weeing.

travis that's the nutty thing i do - wake up panicking that DS should have cried by now, thinming it's been 6 hours or something and it's only been 30 mins! Blush Hopefully we'll get over it?

pootle pleased to hear Jacob's feeding again - on your nice boob Smile

crysty Rock and i were thinking of Totnes - is that too far for you? And we were thinking the 15th march - but my parents have said they can't take me - they'll be too hungover Hmm - so can we do Weds 16th rock? I know it's so long away but i have packed schedule - well - not really - but next week and week afetr busy with appts/visitors! And my parents can;t cope with change to their countdown/eggheads/emmerdale schedule Grin

My best friend is going to be here at 4ish - i'm soooooooo excited!

Thanks for the advice ladies. Went to the drop in medical centre and was seen by a lovely nurse, I have a fungal infection (ewww) simply because I was not pulling my tummy up enough to clean and was only getting the outside of the scar Blush. I'm totally squeamish about my scar, so I'm going to have to be brave to clean it.

Will need to lie down with a mirror and get it sorted! Nurse gave me some sterile saline solution and some gauzes to clean it with then stick in the crease to stop skin to skin contact. It was gross having to pull my tummy so far up and I was worried it was going to hurt or split the scar, but of course it didn't! God I am SUCH a wimp, but the nurse said if a fungal infection takes hold it can break the skin down and then do damage to the scar, yuck!

On the positive side George is still asleep in his car seat (he came with us), yay! But the little blighter made us late by peeing everywhere and I had to change his clothes when we were meant to be leaving!

travispickles · 26/02/2011 18:39

Well done you for getting it sorted Rock - I must admit I don't pull up the apron to clean it very often! Did you not get any antibiotics or do that not use that for fungal infections? Hope it gets better soon.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 26/02/2011 19:09

Evening ladies :)

Glad you've got your scar checked out rock - are you back home yet?

jjkm running!?! Rather you than me :o

cupcakes I'm not surprised you cried, but we all have to have a scary moment to make us realise not to risk things - DD1 fell off the sofa when she was a baby - only about 25cm drop onto a carpet, and she was wrapped up in a grobag so can't have been too bad but I was a wreck - watched her sleep for the next couple of hours in case she stopped breathing!! (she didn't, by the way :o)

L used to pee all over us when first born, but doesn't anymore. Maybe Jesse just likes the feeling of the air on his willy?! :o

gallic I'm very Envy at your little Alys taking so much every 4 hrs - we're still on 2 - 2.5 hrs here with Guzzler.

crysty good luck with the first joint bath - well worth it - reminds me of when I was pg with L and we were having our quiet time together in the bath where I would chat to him and ask him when he was going to come and play, and what would he be like?

travis rofl, but I've been there soooooooo many times. Stupidness comes with giving birth you know!

ladyb he may have been a lovely DH with that act, but last night he regained normal DH status by yawning repeatedly during the evening because the DDs had woken up before 7am, and as L was fast asleep on the sofa next to me, I didn't want to pick him up to try to transfer him upstairs to his crib so said I'd have to wait for L to wake for his feed (prob another hour or so) - hoping DH would say he'd wait up eith him and bring him up to me when he woke up, but no, he buggered off up to bed himself telling me how tired he was Shock Hmm (don't forget he's in the spare room having completely disturbed-free nights)

harrumph!! :o

RockLover · 26/02/2011 22:24

Hi all. Just changed the gauze on my scar, but my flab doesn't seem to be holding it in place Yay and Bummer to that. There's still alot of flab, but it does seem to be shrinking a little. Now just have the icky job of washing it before bed, yeuch.

Since the nurse cleaned it, my scar has become quite sore and my tummy above my scar is hurting a bit too, I hoping this is just where I have been pulling my tummy up further to get to the infection and not something bad. Are any other c-section ladies still getting some pain in their tummies?

Going home tomorrow, so another massive journey with a baby and a 6 yr old. Luckily DP will be with me as he and hid Dsis are coming to collect us. Dreading the journey yet again, but soooo glad to be going home, I have been so anxious here all week.

Have found that George likes the bouncy chair and is currently asleep in it at the moment, saves me pacing around the room for hours until my arms are dead waiting for George to fall asleep.

Cupcakes the 16th should be fine, but I will need to do the school run in the afternoon. If you don't want to hang around in a cafe, you (and Crysty) are both welcome to my place for a coffee/tea and some biccies, then you can BF in private :), but a cafe is fine too. Whatever you would prefer.

Jjkm - I think that just comes with BFing coz I feel like that quite a bit. I assumed it is to do with using up extra calories?? I try biscuits bananas but mainly making sure you eat well and regular mealtimes.

Fuzzywood · 27/02/2011 10:36

JJKM I get this as I also have low blood pressure, only thing that helps is drinking lots of water. May help as you need more water to b feed.
Rock glad you got your scar looked at, hopefully being back at home will help too.
Well H might be about to become DH again as he's taking DD out for the day so i should get some time to relax.
Weather lovely here so hopefully out for a nice walk with Evan later. Have a good day all x

Fuzzywood · 27/02/2011 12:46

Bugger it's now raining, may have to dig out the rain cover and go fir a walk anyway or I'll get cabin fever.

CupcakesHay · 27/02/2011 19:18

jjkm agree about the water. I always get really thirsty afetr breast feeding. Not sure about the milk free diet - can you maybe make a batch of sugary flapjacks (without butter?) and then cut them up redy - high in fibre and sugary goodness?

8rock* - you need to be BRAVE about the scar. Grin you can do it. Also - dry it with either a flapping leaflet - pulling up tummy lying on bed - or use a hairdryer on low setting. but poor you about the infection.

ha ha *fuzzy8 - is H back to DH?

had a FAB FAB FAB weekend with my best friend - and she also bought Jesse most amazing pressies: She also got Wolverine and Capt America as ew used ot play this nerdy playstation game with super heroes! And she got me Jesse this fab book: Plane book

  • it has tracks for a wind up plane to go! how amazing. And she got me a scrabble mug with an "H" for Hayley on it Grin very very happy girl here.

And we went for a walk with my windy, augustus gloop like son - and played games. Very happy.

Although i'm a bit cold tonight - so going to go and have a nice Brew! x

RockLover · 27/02/2011 23:25

Well, I'm home and effing knackered, would just like some decent sleep lol!

DP has already fallen asleep, he won't know what's hit him when george starts tonight. DD's first day at her new school tomorrow, so we're all up early in the morning. I'll be doing some ironing and making a packed lunch because I can't be arsed to do it now.

I have got less squeamish about scar and can clean it without wanting to cringe now, although feel gross as I didn't have time for a shower today, so must have one tomorrow as soon as I get back from school in the morning.

Right I'm off to bed as I can hardly see straight, doubt George will let me sleep though. Have a good night ladies.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 28/02/2011 09:36

Morning ladies - March tomorrow!! Where did February go? In a sleep-deprived, nappy-filled blur!! :o :o

DH is back at work today (very bad of me but I'm ever so slightly relieved to have things back to the way I like them!!). Got a million and one things to do today, but am still in PJs on the sofa with L fast asleep next to me in the swing chair. The monkey fed every hour Saturday night Shock and only just pushed it to every 2 last night, with one big party in the middle!!

Glad you're back home rock. How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
travispickles · 28/02/2011 11:37

Wow Bubba - how do you cope? I was kept awake a bit Sat night and felt shattered last night. Fortunately she must have picked up on the infanticidal vibes and went down quite quickly!! First day for me without OH, just had friend on Mat leave round and now sat chilling with baby snoozing in vibrating chair. Can I say if you don't have one Have decided to get up when OH goes to work, have a shower and dress while he is around, then go back to bed (I like to take LO into bed with me then) for a bit... (we'll see how long it lasts!)

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 28/02/2011 11:42

lol - not very well is the answer travis - just done a spot of well overdue housework with Lachlan in the babybjorn on me to help him snooze off.

Damn - typing this has woken him back up!! :(
