Here we go, down the slippery slope of parenthood. Slippery thanks to the poos, wees, leaky boobs and goodness knows what else :o :o

We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

Ok own up who's taken my little man and replaced him with the Duracell bunny?!?! He's been awake for ages, this better mean he sleeps lots tonight Grin

Crystyclear · 19/02/2011 23:31

fuzzy the bunnies stole my baby too!!

he's been awake and feeding on and off since 7pm. sleep best be coming soon!

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 20/02/2011 05:06

lol you two! Hope your wishes came true fuzzy though you know that logic doesn't apply to little people :o L woke up shouting the house down about 10 mins ago, less than 2 hrs since last feed but seemed starving. Latched on immediately and fed like mad for two minutes then did the most impressive fart and zonked out again Hmm :o Hmm Going to try putting him back down. Wish me luck!

Fuzzywood · 20/02/2011 05:54

Tee hee, your boy sounds as classy as mine Bubba I was woken up 15 mins ago by an incredibly loud poo from Evan. A pretty good night here only up at 1.30 and now (so far), maybe the duracell evening was worth it.
Crytsy hope the same thing happened for you.

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 20/02/2011 06:25

wow half one till 6ish is impressive. My classy boy doesn't believe in letting his mummy sleep for long but I did get a 2.5 hr stretch last night Woo!! :o :o

Crystyclear · 20/02/2011 07:57

Bunnies disguised as babies officially suck! 2.30 before any sleep, then back awake at 6. Two nappy changes and an awful lot of shrieking. Try together hump nod off now... Something
isbothering this lo

Crystyclear · 20/02/2011 07:59

Hmm... Baby gibberish. Apologies

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 20/02/2011 09:55

lol at hump together nod gibberish! Sorry your night was disturbed but at least he slept till six when he finally succombed to the sandman!

Pootle78 · 20/02/2011 10:54

I think I gave birth to a bat. He screams from 10pm til 2am sleeps for 2 hours feeds at 4am then woke at 10am fed again, almighty fart, huge poomagedon and now he's asleep again! Who taught him to tell the time?!

Crystyclear · 20/02/2011 12:40

lol @ pootle and your bat baby!

Just got an extra 3 hours nap and fed baby and he's back asleep. progress!

no idea where the shrieking has suddenly come from though. he's quite placid, so this is a bit freaky - though I'm sure you'll all say it's normal! Smile

and lol @ all the the poomageddons! especially Lachlan's... makes me imagine what he's going to be like as a teenager!

SaraL77 · 20/02/2011 13:11

Hi there,
thought I'd check in after a looong absence- I don't know how you guys find time to log on and catch up- I'm either feeding, knackered or dealing with DS1 etc etc! Oh and I'm ill for the 2nd weekend running (dodgy tum), so finding it really hard and not looking fwd to looking after both tomorrow when DH is at work.

fuzzy I also have a duracell bunny! He hasn't slept properly since around 5am this morning?!! He just fidgets, cries and won't settle- wtf? I thought they were still supposed to sleep most of the time at this age? We had a major screaming session last night, thought he was hungry (already giving more formula than recommended for his age) and then when we tried feeding him he didn't finish it!

gallic interesting to know how much formula you're giving- ours varies from 90-120 every 3-4 hours so I guess its about average. Reuben is just very 'sucky' and often cries afterwards like he's hungry- so we've resorted to a dummy. Sleepless nights thing turned around for me too now he's on formula (not that thats the reason I stopped BF) a bit more sleep is heaven!

Crystyclear · 20/02/2011 13:56

hi sara i think we find time to be on MN because we all have brilliant cleaners and nannies are total slatterns that don't do housework!

Grin

nice to hear from you, but sorry you're poorly! i've only got my new arrival, so this is no where near as draining as I imagine it would be with two LOs to look after.

Xavi is now snoozing again rather happily... what a funy child. hope he does manage to sleep through at least some of tonight, or there will be tears... MINE.

gallicgirl · 20/02/2011 16:01

I have time to be on MN because I neglect my baby have a wonderful partner who does lots for us.

saltnvinigarcrips · 20/02/2011 18:04

lol at gallic comment.

Well the wedding was lovely yesterday and I managed to bf in public (well I did leave the table when everyone was eating) and sat in a quiet corner but for most of it didn't really care. I had a shawl that covered me up and it was really nice - like being in a tent (I probably looked a bit odd with myhead under it too but I like to watch him sucking Hmm )

Anyway the previous night he didn't let us get any sleep so we were both exhausted and lasted till about 8pm which is pretty good seeing as we left the house at 11:45 am! Tbh though I hated the journey there (through central London on tube nightmate!) and then once there I just wanted to be back home on the sofa curled up with tea, chocolate and baby - something DH didn't really understand but I guess they can't ever really understand? Probably because I was dreading the journey back but in the end we just got a taxi.

Anyone else got a worse chocolate craving than before? I thought it was bad when pregnant but seriously I've turned into a fiend and panic if there's none in the house in a way reminicent of when I used to smoke and i'd run out of fags.

Okay going to stalk bubba and check out latest pics :)

saltnvinigarcrips · 20/02/2011 18:07

OMG bubba he is too cute. I love his cheeks - and he looks so happy and smiley doesn't he. Right, I think I'm going to go into school first day of summer term when it's an inset day so would be really nice to see you and Lachlan if you are free.

Right, DH's got out the ginger biscuits Biscuit so enough said have to go.

CupcakesHay · 20/02/2011 18:46

aaaah bubba Lachlan's way too cute!

DS (and I think the D should be emphasied) was a terror in day yesterday but angel at night - got quite a lot of sleep in the night - and i spose it's better that way - although back to being a bugger today.

After m/w telling me off for not swaddling, don't think jesse likes the new blanket over him, rather than tight on him - so not sleeping in day. I gave in earlier (a la rock) and let him fall asleep on me for 2 hours whilst i watched glee (although i got a lot of twitching from DS when i sang alongHmm)

So then when I treid to put him down he refused... feels like i've spent most of the day feeding him and my bloody nipple is sooooo sore!

On the nice side, took him out for walk (for an hour) and he was asleep whole time. was so lovely to be out walking with him - and pram is a dream, so very happy with it Smile although not so happy with c-section scar, which is now killing me after the walk.

salt pleased wedding was good and well done on the breast feeding in your tent shawl Grin and sometimes the tube exhausts me let alone with a baby!

As for chocolate craving, if i've said it once, I've said it a million times - MN need to do a piggy icon! I've gorged on chocolate cream eclairs today... Blush 3 of them!

I've been a bit teary this weekend. Trying not to think about Dh going and being stuck here with mum and dad - just want to be home now! On the plus side one best friend visiting next weekend, then brother then MIL (but other best friend coming same weekend... then DH back. So I can cope! As long as DS really will be perfect! or if not perfect, please let him be not perfect in day - can't cope at night!

Right - sorry for boring post - steak for dinner and i'm STARVING! Grin

PS.pootle Jesse always does MASSIVE farts during feeding. Dh is pleased as he can sneak them out at same time and blame jesse Hmm

saltnvinigarcrips · 20/02/2011 20:08

aww cupcakes sorry to hear you've been teary - it's probably exhaustion. cupcakes how come you are in Blighty so long? Is it that you are waiting on lo's passport? [nosy icon]

gallicgirl · 20/02/2011 20:37

I hope you enjoy your steak Cupcakes and also that you get more sleep tonight. I've found that I don't cope well emotionally with the daftest things when I'm tired so I'm sure lack of sleep is contributing to your teary state. Why don't you kick awake ask DH to help with night time feeds? My lovely DP slept on sofa with DD in living room with him so I could get a lovely long sleep last night. I've done the same for him too when he's needed it and we both function better for the extra sleep.

Alternatively, extra chocolate works wonders Grin. My health visitor suggested lots of healthy snacks I should be eating while BF. I just nodded whilst thinking about the giant bar of Dairy Milk in the fridge.

Surprised the MW suggested you swaddle. Nobody has suggested how I should wrap or cover baby and I didn't think swaddling was recommended any longer. I figure as long as baby is safe, do whatever they're comfortable with. I even tried co-sleeping last week and would definitely do it again if DD is refusing to be put down.

Morning all. DH sent me to bed at 10 yesterday, and then after feeding Jesse at 11.30 - Jesse wouldn't sleep so Dh sent me back to bed again and rocked Jesse to sleep in his arms. And then did nappy change at 1am and 5am - so feel quite refreshed.

salt you are allowed to be nosy, I count you all as friends. I need to wait for my 6 week check up before I am given "clearance" by the Foreign Office to return back to syria. So need to stay in Devon til then and then I promised the MIL a week in London... seems like forever though doesn't it! Thank god I can stil MN in in syria Grin

We've decided on half swaddling - we're using cellular blankets and leaving the arms and top of chest blanket free. DS seems quite happy with that and i feel like it's a good compromise.

jjkm that's so great the girls are going to be allowed home soon. Early march will be here before you blink! And then you won't get time to mumsnet it Wink Aaah i'm so pleased for you!

gallic/jjkm weird how all the advice is so contradictory Confused - i've had some midwives say stroke chin to get them to gulp and others say don't as it confuses them! No wonder first time mums find it so hard!

gallic as for chocolate just scoffed half a chocolate orange...!

jjkm what temperature should babies be? I might take temperature to make me feel better.

Also - are everyone else's little boys almost constantly weeing on them when you change nappy? I try best to put muslin over willy when changing, but sometimes forget and I get soaked. although i do smile at DS when he starts crying - like he didn't know he was going to get wet himself! Grin

And are you all using activiy mats for your babies? Is it too early at 2 weeks?

Right - need breakfast now... maybe I'll be good and have fruit Hmm or frosties Grin

ThreeBubbasAndManyBumps · 21/02/2011 10:28

Great news that your little ones might be coming home soon jjkm - you must be so relieved to hear that plans are in place! :)

I swaddle L at night but not for his daytime naps, although last night he was in bed with me again as he was attacked by the duracell bunnies again! Hmm

salt I'm more than happy to be stalked!! It'll be great to meet you and little Henry at INSET :o

blinking computer and electrics and leaking shower problems here! :(

And don't worry cupcakes - a terry's chocolate orange is clearly half-fruit so no problem there!

Love your midwife for trying to encourage health gallic - they must know they're barking up the wrong tree with most new mums, surely?! :o

jjkm that's good that the hospital check their temp so often- with DS1 they swaddled him put a hat on him then the next day took his temp and said he was overheating! As a first time mum I didn't realise and felt so bad! (no idea why they put a hat on him as I know that this is a big no no indoors) I swaddle Reuben this time round though am more aware of checking his temp- I find sometimes he doesn't like it though so stick mainly to doing it at night. Anyone using slings? I borrowed some from my neighbour last night and was a godsend this morning when R was restless and DS1 wanted attention (though DS1 still didn't like the fact that I had 'baby' near me)

sod the healthy snacks- I was really miffed to discover we're out of biscuits this morning...

and I didn't mean to sound like you lot are lazy spending time on hereGrin far from it- I think it's good you all log on -it's great support- esp after long sleepless nights!

I spoke too soon re: formula making them sleep better- R was a nightmare last night- woke nearly every hour- I feel like a proper zombie today....

Fuzzywood · 21/02/2011 12:53

Bubba I think Lachlan must have been on the phone to Evan to tell him that waking only every 4 hours was not the way to do it, he's fed at least every 2 hours for the last 24 hours!
I've decided I don't like half term, I normally take DD to a toddler group on Monday afternoon which means I get to sit there and drink tea while she runs off some energy then she generally sleeps for a while. But it's not on in half term and she's already bouncing off the walls. Think a cold and wet trip to the park may be in order.
JJKM it's great to hear the girls should be home soon.
Gallic your mw is clearly mad if she's thinking you won't be eating chocolate Grin
I got sent to bed early last night too for what it was worth as I just ended up cat napping but bless DH for trying.
Bought an electric expressing machine this morning (3rd off in Sainsburys) so planning on trying it out tomorrow when DD is with MIL. How's everyone else doing with the expressing? I found it quite hard last time but feeding seems easier so hoping it will also be easier this time.

LadyBuzz · 21/02/2011 14:24

Sssshhhhh both babies are asleep Grin
Wonder how long it will last Hmm
DS1 has gone to the cinema with his friend, so I am sneaking a quick read on here!

jjkm great news about the girls

Kali has just gone up to 120ml, I was hoping she would go longer between feeds but she still appears to want fed every 2 hours or so.
She is definately filling out now!
