New thread for our little handfuls!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PavlovtheCat · 13/02/2011 20:43

nope. I can't hear a thing. I refuse to hear it.

PavlovtheCat · 13/02/2011 20:45

that is the sound of this hopeful bubble bursting. Last night was clearly a Once in a Lifetime event.

Fruitpastels · 13/02/2011 20:51

Could he be teething pav? There is still hope that he will sleep through tonight, even after a rocky start.

scarlotti · 13/02/2011 20:59

Pav yay, then not so yay... am sure it's just a blip - take heart.

We're back to dreamfeeding at around 10:30 but then at least he'll go to 5:30 so not too bad. Amazingly, he's now decided to crawl as well as bum shuffle! Am going to give up trying to second guess him.

Feeling bit down today - guess the positivity isn't so strong today.

Fruitpastels · 13/02/2011 21:09

Sorry you're feeling down scarlotti. I'm sure you will have up and down days. Great that I is crawling. C does a mixture of bum shuffle with a crawl. He keeps launching himself when cruising, thinks he can run before he can walk! He has two physio appts and a scan next month for his hips. Nothing I feel to worry about as he is moving in the right direction. We haven't seen a specialist for a while so I'm hope they will be happy to discharge him. How are your kittens settling in?

I feel I've been living through the longest 5 days since DH went away. C is getting better and last night he only woke once. But I've gone back to co sleeping from around 3am since all the illness began. Hoping to get out of that habit once C is on mend properly.

scarlotti · 13/02/2011 21:17

Yeah, guess it's to be expected that it will be a bit of a roller coaster. I is funny as he'll crawl a bit but almost shuffle too. He seems to be getting more physical now, and working out what his body can do which I'm pleased about.
The kittens seem to be doing really well. They've ventured into the lounge this evening to have a look around and they seem happy so fingers crossed they'll soon feel at home.

Glad to hear C is starting to get better, you must be dead on your feet. Hope you manage to get some time to recharge your batteries once your DH is back - is that tomorrow? Don't worry about the co-sleeping, you can sort that once everyone is well again.

Fruitpastels · 13/02/2011 21:27

I hope you wake up feeling brighter tomorrow scarlotti. Take one day at a time. What does I think of the kittens? C loves animals and we have no pets due to my stupid allergies Sad DH is back tomorrow after school, phew.. We have parent evening on Tues. I'm looking forward to it. How is your DS1 getting on at school?

PavlovtheCat · 13/02/2011 21:54

scarlotti sorry to hear you are feeling down. Maybe it is the sunday feeling compounded by your emotional rollercoaster journey? I hope you feel better tomorrow.

fruit glad that C is on the mend and bet you can't wait til DH gets back tomorrow! I hope he is able to give you a decent break and chance to unwind a little.

I think Roo is teething yes, as he settled after 15 mins, but the cry he had was not so much a sleepy cry but an uncomfortable cry. He has just squealed in his sleep a moment ago, a short high-pitched one off squeal, which reminds me of teeth pain noises from DD at this age. I just went in to see him and he is sleeping very deeply, breathing quite heavily, bum up in the air and has kicked off his sleeping bag. I have to say he does not look too peaceful, but then I don't normally get to see him when he is in such deep sleep as I am too scared of waking him up! I normally see him when I first put him down and he looks lovely and calm and peaceful and lightly snoring. He has also been off his food, dinner in particular and is more fussy/crabby at mealtimes at the moment, only really eating pasta, bread, ready brek.

MsInterpret · 14/02/2011 18:52

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Well, not the most romantic for me. Went to bed super-early last as felt all snotty and achy. Had an awful night tossing and turning and this morning couldn't go to work as felt like I'd been run over by a bus and that I was going to be sick. Luckily managed to stay in bed this morning as DH took Rosa to nursery but when I hauled myself up there to collect her, I was SICK! How embarrassing! It was the smell of the disinfectant/handspray which I never normally notice and I was just trying to get out the door when I thought Oh no, this isn't happening...' and had to mumble, 'er, don't feel very well...', thrust Roo at the receptionist and race to the staff toilet. Blush They were very nice and looked after me!

How did everyone's else's day of Lurve go?!

A good day for DH to return fruit! Hope you're having a well-earned rest.

Hope you've had a brighter day today scarlotti. It was sunny here today which always helps to cheer me up. What about in Brighton?

pav - how did Roo sleep last night? Poor little teether. Rosa wouldn't eat her dinner tonight either, wonder if we have some more teeth on the way.

PavlovtheCat · 14/02/2011 20:00

Oh No miss! Shock how horrible for you! At least I guess, you did not puke over their floor. But still not very good. are you feeling any better now? I love that we both have Roo's Grin

Roo slept til 5:45am, which is ok. I fully expected him to wake lots, but he didn't after his initial wake-up. I guess I am so used to it ending up a wakeful night I did not dare to consider it to be anything else. And so it goes for tonight to, because...he went to bed with no boob Shock. DH got him ready for bed while I put DD to bed, as I had promised her a story just me and her, and when I came down the stairs (DD is in the roof) he was in bed! crying mind you, so i went in for a cuddle, thinking i would need to feed him and he cuddled into my neck and went to sleep! Ah it was so lovely. I put him down, he opened his eyes briefly and went back to sleep! It does mean he is likely to wake up any moment...but for now...

Oh and he likes/loves fish and chips. Well, chips and fish batter to be precise. Tonight, for tea, he mostly stuffed his face with them. And Bad Mummy that I am i let him. He loves using his fork and just constantly stabbed them with it and shoved whole chips into his mouth! Hilarious. Talking of which I have a video to post on FB when I get around to it, from chinese new year. He was stuffing his face with prawn crackers and sweet n sour sauce, dipping them into it!!! He does love his food. Just becoming a bit particular about what he likes now i think.

PavlovtheCat · 14/02/2011 20:03

Sorry ms i called you miss Grin makes you sound younger Wink

Valentines Day - we don't celebrate it. A complete and Utter waste of our money IMO. Designed to make card shops, restuarants and supermarkets money in the quiet period mid christmas and easter. There is no reason for it whatsoever, we can celebrate it on any day of the week. And we have two offers of babysitters on other days too so we can go out when I am not very busy at work, like next week when I have time off . I told DH not to buy me a card under any circumstances. 2 x cards = almost a bottle of wine fgs.

PavlovtheCat · 14/02/2011 20:05

oh sorry, one more thing...my friend is in hospital about to have her second baby, very excited for her but also very scared for her. She has diabetes and her sugars have dropped, placenta is breaking up or something, she is a month early so they are giving her steroids for baby's lungs to strengthen and have a CS planned for wednesday, hoping her sugars will stabilise enough to allow them to wait for steroids to do their stuff. Both she and baby are fine, but she has nothing prepared!!!

MsInterpret · 14/02/2011 20:38

Oh I quite agree re Valentine's Day pav. In principle that is... Wink

Actually DH made me a breakfast of crumpets and jam made into a heart shape. Now that's romantic and not pandering to the market. Tick and tick!

Unfortunately it was before he or I realised quite how unwell I was and he ended up eating it himself. Ah well.

Am feeling a lot better now but still got a cold and weak and feeble from no food today, moan, moan, grumble, grumble.

Wow, sounds pretty full-on for your friend. I have no experience of any of those things but they do sound quite scary. Hoping she and baby will be just fine.

skorpion · 15/02/2011 08:59

DH got me a small bunch of flowers. First time ever for Valentine's Day (we pretty much share your opinion, Pavlov). I think he's being extra nice because I've been feeling so crap lately. Still feeling sick every day, starts at noon on the dot and doesn't go away all day. Lucy's sleep still patchy, she has conjuntivitis and snot to her waist again. MMR jabs on Friday look like they will have to be cancelled...

MsI Poor thing! As Pav said, better that you caught it early enough to rush to the loo. Hope you feel better soon. Funny you should mention the smell of nurseries, I thought it was just Lucy's. It smells of cleaning stuff and poo (toddler toilets right oposite front door). Luckily it's just the hall, not the rooms themselves.

Pavlov, hope all goes well for your friend, exciting and scary.

helips · 16/02/2011 01:52

Hi all, been reading but not posting as not much to report here!

Millie is still teething and waking at night for feeds, but I have got her day time feeds down to just morning and bedtime. I don't know how I'm ever going to give up breastfeeding when during the night it's the only thing that will get her to go back to sleep. If I don't feed her she goes mental, her cry is so loud and she just doesn't stop. In the end I always give in and feed her. Oh well, I suppose it won't last forever...

Hope all the poorly babies and mummy's feel better soon...

longwayaway · 16/02/2011 05:55

fruit hope your LO is recovering from the pox and you can rest a bit now that DH is home. Truly awful timing!

scarlotti kitties!!!! Grin

Pav Thinking good thoughts for your friend, any news? I have much sympathy on the sleep front... Maeve has decide to cut about five teeth at once and apparently she needs to be awake for them to come in! She's typically a champion sleeper but teething got the best of her. She's also eating a lot less than usual.

MsI ugh ugh ugh! Sounds miserable. And now I realize, to my great embarrassment, that I've lost track of who's pg and who's not on this thread! Is it MS? Or were you ill for some other reason?

A friend of mine in Cambridge has just had her 2nd - crazy story. She called the maternity ward to tell them she was in labour and wanted to come in but they told her to take a paracetamol and wait 30 min. So she ended up delivering her own baby in the tub while her DH rung the ambulance!! Shock Shock Shock Mother and LO doing fine now, thankfully :)

PavlovtheCat · 16/02/2011 14:32

omg a scary time for my friend and her DH and new baby today. during cs she had a ruptured/torn uterus and extensive bleeding, v worried about her, baby was born healthy and lungs are fine, in scubu for a while to monitor. DH just spoke to friends DH after a panicked conversation with friend's mum, and he said it was touch and go for a moment with friend, he said he thought for a moment it would just be him and the children. He is feeling very emotional about being a dad again and about his partner being ok now.

She is still poorly, but out of danger.

Poor thing. This is the second cs to end up badly (last time they let her labour too long as a diabetic not a good idea, so she was exhausted, also left it too long after breaking her waters before cs so she contracted strep b infection, was very poorly for weeks).

MsInterpret · 16/02/2011 19:52

Bloody hell pav, your poor friend and her DH! And baby! An emotional time. Makes me realise how lucky I was in labour though was pretty awful by many standards!

longway no, I'm categorically NOT pregnant. I know this for sure since, to add insult to injury, my period arrived this morning right on time I had some kind of vomitty bug on top of a horrific head cold, the latter of which is till with me, urgh. Can barely breathe!

And shocker indeed about your friend having her baby in the tub! What is it with midwives refusing to believe women are in labour? Hmm Although on One Born Every Minute it sometimes looks as though they are hanging around for hours doing nothign much!

scarlotti · 16/02/2011 20:14

Pav your poor friend, hope they're all ok.

MsI hope you're starting to feel better soon.

Gavin and Stacey are just so cute, have settled in so well and seem very happy here. Even sat and watched me hoover the kitchen without getting frightened!

Thanks for the words of support the other day - grey cloud has now gone and am back to positive thinking.
Now if I could just crack this sleeping thing... will be interesting to see what happens tonight as he's eaten loads today. Tempting fate now though obviously!

MsInterpret · 18/02/2011 17:01

Eeek, we just went 2 days with no posts! Shock

Has that ever happened before?

Ah, for the halcyon pre-baby days of 3 pages of MN before breakfast...

scarlotti · 18/02/2011 18:31

What are pre-baby days? It's been so long I'm not sure what they are...!!

Off out to dinner with a friend tonight, boys at DH's and nothing to get up for tomorrow apart from the vet at 10:40 ... maybe that's a halcyon pre-baby type start..?! WinkWine

MsInterpret · 18/02/2011 18:37

Oh scarlotti, what bliss. Enjoy!

I'm expecting my friend off the train from Edinburgh any minute. We're going to have some jacket potatoes comfort food then ensconce ourselves at the local pub for a good natter!

I'm nearly better AND it's half term! Grin

Hope everyone else has a good weekend too.

scarlotti · 19/02/2011 14:31

Well, turned out to be a fab evening with far too much wine.. for which I am paying slightly today! Great food and great company though so well worth it.

DH decided to leave Ioan and see how long he'd sleep, rather than dream feed, and he went through to about 4:30/5 ShockShock Will try it tonight but I bet I won't get the same response but fingers crossed.
Wondering if maybe I should just give water if he wakes up before then - thoughts ladies?

Also, took Gavin and Stacey to the vet to get checked out and jabs .... brought home Gavin and Smithy! Stacey was a boy!! Quite like having another two boys though Grin

ursigurke · 19/02/2011 16:08

Haven't posted for a while.
Pavlov what a scary story about your friend. How is she now? And the baby?

scarlotti, well I heard many times about giving water instead of milk (or even watering it down gradually). Whenever Paula woke up and I offered her water she wouldn't want it.
So I'm not sure if it is not better to just go cold turkey (if it is "only" about eliminating the last remaining night feed). If you do not mind me asking, are you sure it is about being hungry/thirsty or rather a habit? I'm quite sure in Paula's case it has been a habit for the last couple of weeks if not months. She still wakes up several times, even if we stopped night feeds two weeks ago. So actually, it might just be best to not listen to my opinion Wink

MsI, I hope you had a lovely evening. Glad you are feeling better.

helips, I think feeding Millie at night while she is teething is the only thing that makes sense. I am really sure that nightweaning only works when they feel well and happy. Hopefully, she will soon be there.

fruit how are things in your family? I hope everything is back to normal and that you had time to finally rest as well.

skorpion, how are you feeling? I hope already a bit better. Did you actually already have a scan as you don't know how far along you are?
I am feeling much better since a couple of days (I'm 11 weeks), even enjoyed my food, which is really very similar to my first pregnancy. Therefore I expect next week to be terrible again but then it should be over.
I'll have my booking in on friday and only then they will give me a scan date.... hopefully soon. I look ridiculously pregnant and it doesn't quite make sense to not tell people yet.

DWB, how are you? And how many weeks are you again?

Even more importantly, "katster", how are you? I lost a bit track of time but you must be already there, isn't it? Or are you even already a mum of two? I hope to soon get an update for you so I know if I should wish you luck for the birth or wonder how your life with two little ones is :)

Not much to report from here, PILs are here, and it is all about the greatness of Paula (surprisingly she could not deal with the jigsaw for 3y+ though which they brought her Wink ) but at least it gives us time to rest so not too bad.

I hope everybody else is enjoying a nice weekend

ursigurke · 19/02/2011 16:08

I meant katster
