I enjoyed watching the wedding. Its always nice when they seem to genuinely love each other.

Mine went back to school today and had a street party in the playground

Phoenix · 03/05/2011 22:58

Hi, I'm still around and reading :o.

I never get a chance to post.

Do any other little ones still have milk from a baby bottle. Over the last few days we've tried Noah with numerous lidded cups and with milk warm and cold but he will only entertain milk warm from a bottle. I gave in at bedtime today and gave him his bottle back and he downed the lot and wanted more.

Royal Wedding - I didn't want to watch it and even volunteered to work 4 hours overtime between 1 and 5pm. But I ended up watching it all before work and then the highlights on bbc 24 once I got home. I even had a little tear in my eye for the balcony kiss and i was listening to it on the radio at work :)

Hope everyone's ok and I will try post more instead of just reading :)

I wish Alfie would take a bottle Grin he is being equally stubborn about weaning off breastfeeding though
I keep up with your goings on via facebook :)

Misspaella · 07/05/2011 07:44

Hey all
Jetli how is it with 2? You sound very chilled. Smile

Phoenix DD (who is 4 in June) drank milk in a bottle for over 3 years. We tried everything and I just left it. She drank water etc in a cup but milk morning and night was in the bottle. I would leave it if Noah eats ok. Maybe it is a comfort thing?

QF no tips on stopping bf. Tristan dumped me at nearly 16months (and there are times I wish I was still bf just to tame/comfort him). Alfie is nearly 2 and what a great achievement to get to that milestone. Maybe things will change then?

We are off to San Fran on Monday. I am excited and anxious. There is so much to do before we leave!

Funny thing happened - my gf left my cafetiere outside my home in a Liberty's bag and it was stolen! She had borrowed it and returned it by just knocking on my door and left (she had left her car in the middle of street and had to dash back to it). Who would take it? I has mad me weary of leaving Monday for our hols so we are leaving laptops/bank books etc at my inlaws whilst we are away. There are times when I think maybe we should leave London (and we live in a fairly good area of North London). It is so busy and there are so many opportunists.

Moan over.

Well ladies. I may pop in while we are away but if not, happy May. I hope the good weather holds.

alibobble · 08/05/2011 15:41

miss: [sock] at nicking your cafetierre or however you spell. Am also lurking and reading too x

alibobble · 08/05/2011 15:42

or Shock even. I think a [sock] icon would be good for me today. trying to catch up with the washing now it's raining. thank goodness for the tumble dryer. previously I had to put the heating on with the thermostat on 30! :)

JetLi · 10/05/2011 12:17

Hi MissP - hope you have a fab time in SF & sorry about the cafetiere - what a bummer Shock!! We're loving having two - its extra busy but not nearly as stressful as it was & to be honest, I struggled more when I had 1 & was heavily pregnant. Would dearly love to have another baby if I'm totally honest Blush

I think my periods are coming back Sad have had wretched perido-type pains over the last couple of days. I could weep. Milly is tending to go a long stretch overnight which is fab on the sleep deprivation front but lest welcome when it comes to periods... Bugger!

Hi to all the lurkers - come post some news Grin

Phoenix · 13/05/2011 10:13

Hi everyone

QF - No advice re stopping breastfeeding sorry. I'm sure he'll do it when he's ready but that's not good for you.

MissP - Have a wonderful time in San Fran :o

JetLi - :( for periods coming back but :o for Milly sleeping. I've had the Imlanon implant for a year now and after about 8/9 months of on and off spotting/bleeding/brown discharge (sorry TMI) I haven't had a period or anything for quite a few months and it's great :o

Hi to everyone else :o

Nothing much going on here. Noah is still having his bottle and we'll leave it til he decides he doesn't want it. He drinks water and juice from anything but milk has to be in a bottle.

Bit of sad news from work on Wednesday. One of the lads passed away. He found out only about 6 month ago that he had a brain tumour then after tests etc. was told nothing could be done because it was too near his brain. He was having radiotherapy and on steroids to try shrink it but he passed away early hours of Wednesday morning in his sleep. It's awful, he was only 44 and had 3 little children age 9,6 and 1 :(:(

Hi all Smile
I have been lurking for ages as I never seemed to have the time to post!
Now Sam is nearly 2 I actually have a chance to post again Grin.

QF: I reduced the number of feeds I gave to Sam on the boob and eventually I was only feeding him once a day on the boob. It got to the point where because of the reduced frequency I wasn't producing enough milk and he just migrated onto a cup and Aptamil toddler milk at the age of 13 months (but not before biting me repeatedly because he wasn't happy at the amount of milk I was producing!). I have no idea if that is the correct way to do it mind you Confused, have you tried your local BFing group?

MissP - Enjoy SF, supposed to be a fab place to go Smile never been myself but very good friend has and says it is great Grin.

Phoenix - That's so Sad especially as he was so young and had a young family. That has made me realise (in conjunction with the programme on Beeb 1 last night) how precious life is and that I we all need to make the most of it.

Ah, first time I post in ages and Sam decides Mummy shouldn't be on the PC!! Time to go, ttfn [waves]

JetLi · 13/05/2011 13:54

Hi, hi hi...

Quick stop. So sorry about your friend Phoenix Sad bloody brain tumours Angry. Lost two friends to the same thing & it's an evil cancer (not that there is a non-evil kind though). Both left young families behind. Makes me cross that when Emlyn Hughes died of a brain tumour, Weston bloody Park spent the funds raised on decorating the consulting rooms!! WTF? There is a research fund in Sheffield that could have really put the cash to good use, but no, they spent it all on emulsion paint instead Hmm

Hi Lillabet Smile

Couple of quick questions - where is everyone at with teeth? DD1 has so few still, only 4 molars in total plus the 4 front ones, top & bottom. We seem to have been like this for months now - no signs of any more. Her eating is erratic at best and non-existant some days and I wonder if more teeth would help - mind you, it's not like I can magically make them appear! What are your more successful toddler meals? She absolutely refuses pasta in any form which is a pain in the bum. Eggs are hit & miss, as are baked beans. If she had her way she would only eat tomatoes, broccoli & slices of cold butter, with any consistency!

QueenFee · 13/05/2011 22:04

Pheonix so sad :( always makes it worse when young kids left behind.

Hi lillabet lol I am the local bf peer supporter! Most of them just encourage you to let them self wean. I am suprised to find myself still feeding at nearly 2 let alone to continue till 3! However af made her first appearance today so I may finally get pregnant! Which was one of my main reasons to want to wean. He has also started sleeping from 12 till 5 30 so that was another reason to wean noe no longer there :)
Alfie has 12 teeth. He is a brilliant eater and he will eat just about anything. Fin however at nearly 5 will still eat only a narrow selection of things. I would say dont stress about it and it will improve over time. It certainly has with Fin

JetLi · 14/05/2011 08:40

Yay QF to the return of AF! Smile

JetLi · 14/05/2011 08:41

DD2 had me up every 2 hours from 8:20pm to 8:20 am. Maybe my periods aren't coming back after all...!

Lillabet · 14/05/2011 09:20

Hi,

JetLi: Sam has a fair few teeth, but getting a look in his mouth to check is like getting blood out of a stone! Grin Off the top of my head, he has 8 on the top (although the molars aren't fully erupted yet) and 8 on the bottom. I know he suddenly realised he could chew stuff properly and make it easier to swallow, but then it did take him a little while to work it out Smile.
I do count myself very lucky that there is very little nothing Sam won't eat. Eggs are a bit hit and miss too as he won't eat fried or boiled! He loves cheese, have you tried smothering stuff in cheese sauce? Smile My DSiL recommended that one Grin. I can tell you that your DD1 eats more than my DNephew, who exists on bananas, a few dry cheerios, Carrot Stix crisps and formula Shock (he's 3 in October)! I might add this is despite DB and DSiL's best efforts!! As QF said, don't stress about it, it will get better. Actually from all the nanny/tanya byron type progs I've seen the more you stress the worse it gets Wink.

QF: Thanks, it's nice to know I did it vaguely right without actually realising Grin.

Right, as the DH has returned some 8 hours earlier than expected as it's too windy to sail Hmm we are off out for the day Grin.

QueenFee · 14/05/2011 16:44

Alfie kept waking last night crying and pointing to his mouth saying ow hurts :( think its the last eye tooth which is halfway through.

alibobble · 16/05/2011 14:45

hi all, teeth causing a fuss here too. Becca getting all 4 eye teeth (canines?) at once and has been up and down in the night for weeks now. I'm starting to look like a zombie. Plus she's turned into a snot monster! Still at least they are all nearly here now. Beth was an early teether and had all hers by now which was HARD work but at least over with quickly.

Food Becca miles more fussy than Beth ever was who would eat pretty much anything except cauliflower. She was a human waste disposal system and the size of a house when she was little! She's more fussy now but only since hearing other people say "i don't like xyz" at school. Becca refuses potatoes in all forms except chips but will eat pasta. Won't eat toast most of the time but will eat bread but not rolls! Refuses pretty much all veg but I just keep putting it on her plate and think ,"well she's not starved to death yet" She would however exist on a diet of bananas (pretty much her first word!) blueberries and strawberries! (so there is hope)

brain tumour my dad dies of that when he was 37. Yes it is evil. I know the money raised could have gone to research but my mum spent a LOT of time in consultation rooms with my dad and I supposed until the miracle cure arrives it might be nice for the wards etc to be more inviting seeing as people spend literally hours and hours of their lives there.

Hope all doing well. I'm excited as I'm going to help on beth's school trip to a local farm. I'm not sure who's more excited, me or her!

Phoenix · 16/05/2011 18:25

Oh Ali, sorry to hear about your dad :(. So young :(

OP posts:
JetLi · 16/05/2011 19:15

Sorry about your dad Ali. Its terribly young.

My friend was 37 too. She left behind husband, sons aged 10 & 12 and a daughter aged 7. Never a day goes by, that I don't think about her, especially now that I have my own children.

Phoenix · 16/05/2011 19:44

That's the hard thing isn't it? Thinking about the children left without a parent. I didn't know the bloke from work that well, just to say hello to really and the odd chat, but I just find it so sad that he was so young and had young kids :(. I had no idea brain tumours were so bad. I've never known anyone with one before. And hopefully I never will again.

Teeth - As far as I can see (ie. when he lets me or I trick him into letting me) Noah is awaiting his bottom fangs and his very back molars. Neither of my boys have really had an issue with teeth. Noah did dribble and moan more than Lewis ever did but i bought him a teething necklace. At first dh and my mum thought i'd wasted money on it but they were both forced to admit that it did make it better :o

Noah is finally starting to say some words. He says - moon, star, daddy, bus, ooo ooo (as in a train choo choo lol) Buzz (as in Toy Story) Diddy (is Woody from Toy Story) He says Yee Haa for Jessie in Toy Story. Btw he is very obsessed with Toy Story and we are forced to watch 1,2 and 3 several times a day :o. Please note that mummy, mama or any other way of saying it is not on that list. My child says buzz and woody before mummy :o. He calls me and Lewis baba :o

Hey all.
I am prob going to be mia for a while. Came back from San Fran Thurs to find the flat above on fire (we live in maisonettes)! Our road was blocked and had 4 fire engines, helicopter and police. Our place has no fire damage but terrible water damage from the hose and stinks of smoke. We need to find a new place to live for the next few months. Sad All this to arrive to after an 11 hr flight! I laugh, cry and just act numb.

Sorry for bearing shit news. But after hearing the bereavement stories on here I am counting our blessings. No one was hurt. Nothing priceless such as photos gone. Hearing young parents dying is worse.

Re teeth Tristan needs just 2 more molars and that's it. Phew.

Any advice on how to tackle insurance claims and keeping my chin up gladly received.

Lillabet · 22/05/2011 13:21

Ah Misspaella what a particularly crappy thing to come home to! Sad When it comes to insurance companies/claims - breathe, have a Wine to hand for after all phone calls and remember that this too shall pass Smile. I'm sorry I don't have any practical advice for you, as we have been lucky enough never to have to claim, but I am sure there are plenty of people on MN who will Smile
Hope it all goes as well as possible and look forward to your speedy return. Grin

Phoenix · 22/05/2011 22:19

Oh no MissP that is awful :(. I have no insurance advice either but hope you get sorted out quickly.

We're on holiday in Cornwall at the mo. We got here yesterday but haven't really been anywhere yet, we didn't get into our cottage til 3pm yesterday and we'd been up since 2.30am and today we've just chilled out around the site. We've paid for the boys (mainly Lewis who has a big fear of water, for some reason) some swimming lessons while we're here. The pool here is warm, the teacher is qualified and experienced and she charges £20 for a private 40min session (for up to 3 people) so I thought why not give it a go. By the end of today's lesson he was ducking under (shallow) water to fetch various toys. He normally panics and screams when we wash his hair and water goes in his face. She's doing bits with Noah but mainly focussing on Lewis. We're booked in for tomorrow and maybe Tuesday so we're hoping to see a big difference in him. My parents are driving down to stay with us from Wednesday so I'm looking forward to that because they can take on their grandparent duties and take over with the kids ;). Fingers crossed for hot weather for the rest of our week please :o.

Hope everyone's ok :)

OP posts:
alibobble · 23/05/2011 13:28

miss that's awful :( thank the Lord you're all ok. What a thing to come home too. No insurance experience here I'm afraid. I hope you find somewhere to stay. Keep us abreast of the details when you can. Thinking of you.

phoenix how great about swimming lessons. Hope it pays off. Hope the rest of your time away is great.

teeth discovered why becca has been giving us a hard time with her teeth .Been thinking that she's getting canines and putting bonjella on etc but it turns out that her sneaky second molars are at work first so she has a whole new tooth at the back we had no idea about. She did this with her first set of molars. We couldn't understand why her last two bottom front teeth were so bad but it turns out hey weren't the cause of all the problems!

Jobapplication am applying for a new job :) Seen an advert fro a library post in a private school Shock which is full time (8.30-4) but has all the school hols so I'm going for it. I used to work in schools before I worked in the library so I hope that I am perfect for it ;) I'm so nervous I feel sick. My mum is still looking for work but has lots of experience with application forms so she's coming tomorrow to help me check it through.

new hob sorry if being gleeful about this is in poor taste as miss has a water damaged house but I've saved up for over a yea and my new hob is coming tomorrow to be fitted. I'm so excited as I hate my current one. I'm getting an induction one so I'll let you know about the fabulousness of it later as long as there are no hiccups getting it fitted.

Hi to all. Hope all is well for those who are lurking.
