evening ladies, quick one

skyler- omg! that must have been very very scary and all by yourself too. hope you feeling better now.

had lovely weekend, this last day of dh extended weekend off. but today am a bit out of sorts, woke up having had the most bizarre dreams, jumped out of bed in a daze took me ages to recover.

dd doing well i am pleased to report
she loved the train when we went out on monday, she also seemed interested in other babies, she seldom sees other children close by but monday starbucks was breastfeeding central, lots of babies around her age and she was most curious.

scrapbooks- i kept a pregnacy diary which i will keep for her and my MIL gave me a baby book which i have been filling in. i saw a lovely scrapbook type thing at Paperchase which i thought i could buy and add pictures and notes from my diary too. who knows what she will make of it but maybe when she has children of her own...
i am also putting together a disc with pics songs and film, guess that will be more than one...

all this future talk reminds me i have to sort out my will

hope you all ok, sorry not much time to catch up yet

oh lynny- lovely to know you got something beautiful out of your childhood, its precious

Skyler · 01/11/2005 20:37

Hey there, Coop here .
Thanks for the kind words. I can't get over how quickly dd escaped. Or the fact she even went off wandering without me . Scary.
SFX - Glad you and dd enjoyed your outing.
Welshie/Jonah - Glad things are all falling into place. I sometimes think it is amazing what we worry about and then get proved wrong about. The things I worried about with dd1 and proved unfounded could fill a book!
DD2 is in bed smothered in Vaseline for her cradle cap. Hope it works. The oil just hasn't been up to the job.
Right I should be in bed. DD1 has creche tomorrow HOORAY!!!. Two hours off for me and dd2. I will be spending it shopping (just for food sadly). Sleep well all, especially those babies of ours.

bubbaloo · 01/11/2005 20:49

Evening all,

Uki-Nice to see you.Know what you mean about trying to keep up with this thread.I tend to lurk more than post here these days.

Skyler-What an awful fright you must have had. Can't even imagine how you must have felt-glad your'e all safe now, though. Also shame about the dates. Is there no chance of them changing it again and coming home earlier?
Btw...As good as it gets is the one where he has OCD and falls in love with the waitress at the cafe where he goes everyday!

Mrs W-Glad you enjoyed your hols and good to hear your ds is getting over his cough.

Uwila-Sounds like you had fun trick or treating last night. We bought lots of sweets and had no-one knock.Think Dh was secretly pleased as He was a bit nervous about opening the door to some scary looking kids.

Jonah-Totally agree with the messy veg.Ds's favourite thing at mealtimes is to ram his hands in his mouth just after I've fed him a big spoonfull of Brocolli-lol!

Lynny- Your brother sounds fab!
What a great poem, with lovely words. You must both think alot of each other which is lovely.Loved the piccie too-there's something about old photo's that just makes me go all nostalgic. On the scrapbooking front-I'm not actually doing one but a friend of mine is.She makes cards and is very "crafty" and insisted on doing a book for Ds.I have been emailing her all ds's photo's,along with the dates and where we were and she's doing everything else. She told me to forget about it for about 2 years, then she'll give it to me.I cant wait and have already sent her over 300 photos'.
I think it's a great idea and I know she gets alot of her stuff in Hobbycraft, but I think they're quite pricey. If you've got sky tv,have a look on channel 634 when they do their craft hours,as they're very reasonable!
Might also be worth asking the mumsnetters on the arts and crafts threads for ideas.

Mandy-Ds has also just started to blow raspberries too-isn't it funny? When I want himn to do it though,he never does-lol!

Welshie-Congrats on the bottle-yay!!!!!!!!!

Took Ds to see the consultant about his head yesterday and the good news is he has now been discharged,he said he is fine and that his funny shaped head is also fine and absolutely nothing to worry about.I'm so pleased-one less thing to worry about.Just hoping that when he sees the "foot" specialist in December we also get a positive report.

Mushed up some Butternut squash yesterday and was really shocked to see seeds in it-lol!
I've never bought one before.Tastes a bit like sweet potato,I thought.
Ds now has about 100 cubes of different veg in the freezer,so this is where the fun begins.

bubbaloo · 01/11/2005 20:53

Skyler-x posted there!
Would be interested to know whether the vaseline works.Ds also has cradle cap and the oil doesn't seem to work.We have been washing his hair everyday recently(in the bath)with dentinox and it's helped a little bit.Was also told that if you put a hat on after the oil,it's meant to help, but cant get ds to sleep in a hat!

bubbaloo · 01/11/2005 21:24

Blimey,I dont come on here for a couple of days and now I'm becoming a seriel stalker-lol!
Just posted a pic of Ds on the Yahoo site, taken today in his Bumbo.
Sorry,but couldn't resist.

MrsWednesday · 01/11/2005 22:00

Will go over and have a nosey at your DS next Bubbs. Put a picture of DS2 up yesterday at long last (DH found his digital camera hidden in my jewellery box where he'd put it 'for safe keeping' about six months ago).

Glad the weaning is going well for everyone. I've bought some baby rice and will get started very soon I think, having been inspired by you all

Coop, what a horrible experience, not surprising you felt sick. I hope your heart has stopped beating at a hundred miles an hour by now.

Jonah, what feed did you start with when swapping over to formula? I need to start doing something similar I think. Work is looming ever closer - I'm intending to go back in January and will be going in to talk to my boss tomorrow about hours/role etc. Until last week I was absolutely dreading it and was even thinking about stopping altogether but have changed my mind again now! Welshie and other second timers, are you intending to go back to the same hours you were working before? I'd love to reduce mine down from 4 to 3 days a week but am not hopeful.

Meant to say yesterday, glad things are looking a bit brighter Katz.x

Well DS2 must have been reading this site, because today, to prove a point, he found his feet! Oh and he's also found a very piercing shrieking sound that he enjoys making all the time, much to his mummy's delight. He is such a lovely happy little soul now he's feeling better, I could eat him all up

Right, off to bed. Having a week of healthy living, no snacking etc and blimey the evenings seem long without wine and chocolate

MrsWednesday · 01/11/2005 22:06

What a lovely picture He looks so grown-up!

bubbaloo · 01/11/2005 22:42

MrsW-What a lovely pic of your ds too.
Trib-I've only just seen yours.I love that cheeky grin.

Skyler · 02/11/2005 05:15

Morning all
Bubb, Trib and Charley - Gorgeous new photos on the Yahoo site. I must down load some of the dd's from my camera.
Today my challenge is to finally choose which Stocks and shares option to put the dd's Child trust fund into. We have decided to go for the high risk option as it is bonus money and we are not adding to it. I think we will then transfer it as the children get older.....if we remember . Don't have a good track record so far!
Mrs W - Glad you are having a better time of things and are feeling upbeat about your return to work.
Bubb - Great news about ds
Charley and Katz - How you doing?
So where is Tea? On hols?
Right had better be off and start our day. I did all the ironing last night but didn't actually put is away so that is my first job before dd1 trashes it all .
Have good days all.

uwila · 02/11/2005 06:08

Morning everyone! Can someone remind me where this yahoo site is? I want to post my cuties.

I went back to work full time mostly because my job isn't really one I feel I can do part time. But, perhaps you might want to make a request for flexible working? The only thing is if it is accepted then it's a permanent change and you have no right to go back to full time if you changed your mind.

mandymac · 02/11/2005 07:41

Morning All

I will be off to check the yahoo site shortly. I might even try uploading a recent picture of dd if I'm feeling techie.

Well after the clocks changing, its taken a few days to shuffle bedtime back, but we are more or less there and dd didn't wake until 6.45am for a feed this morning - yay! [grin

I have a day jam packed with excitement, well - sainsburys are delivering and I am meeting a friend for coffee - a veritable social whirl for me!

Catch you later x

Glad your DB is keeping in touch Lynny and good to hear your other half is occasionally 'challenging' - it keeps us on our toes doesn't it. Mine has so far avoided doing a single night feed and is just about starting to get involved with solids.
He made me laugh yesterday - he came home looked in the fridge and then gave me a massive hug and said I was the best wife in the whole world.
Was it because I'd done childcare all day and all night?
Was it because I'd done all the shopping and food preparation? Washing? Kept the house clean and tidy?
Or was it my ability to stay glamorous - well at least have no baby sick on me?
Oh no - I'd rememberd to put a few beers in the fridge.....

mrsflowerpot · 02/11/2005 10:03

Morning all

Lynny, I know exactly what you mean about your dh and the screaming/whinging (from the baby obviously, although my dh does his share too). DH cannot cope with it, just cannot do it, he'll be holding her with this pained look and then after about 30 seconds he hands her over to me. And I want to say 'so exactly how do you think this is easier for me??' particularly as I'm usually doing something else at the time and all he has been required to do is hold dd. Not good at doing more than one thing at once, isn't my dh. Lovely poem from your brother btw.

Welshie, so you can't tell me if Broken Flowers is good then??? I really want to see it but I'm not sure if dh will enjoy it. He's a bit put off Bill Murray in thoughtful comedy since Lost in Translation, which he just didn't get. I watch it on DVD pretty much any time he goes out in the evening. He is more of a Bill Murray in Ghostbusters type of chap. Anyone else seen it at all?

Well ds is in school full time now. The house is very quiet. I can't remember what I used to do when ds was a baby. I think I used to know people... have found an NCT coffee group here but it's not on this week so I'm sort of wafting around. I do have a stack of stuff to sort out for dh's business which hasn't been touched since dd was born really, but that does not sound fun. I find it so hard to get motivated to do that sort of thing when it's just me and a PC. When dh was still self-employed we worked together and that was fine but sitting in the spare room doing the VAT return is not my idea of interesting times. I quite fancy going back to work proper, maybe next year if dh gets his act together and decides what he's doing. Having moved all the way down here, the job is not going brilliantly - new big boss who is making life very difficult, has sacked the guy who recruited dh and wants to do all sorts of stuff that dh doesn't buy into. So now we are considering self-employment again. Hmmm. I want to run away and join the circus.

Sorry, haven't done very well at catching up today. Feeling a bit random , think I need coffee. Will do better later.

BTW, have changed PC and lost the link to the yahoo site - could someone point me there and I will post some pics??

Morning all
I have been LOL at all these posts this morning!
Obviously not at your DH's work probs though Mrs F . That really is a pain. I hope you get to meet some nice people soon too. I am sure you will. I know what it is like to move somewhere new, although I am lucky that in forces circles people are generally quite friendly and welcoming as we are all in the same boat. I do think it is healthy to have some non forces friends too though otherwise that is all you talk about .
Welshie - Well done on the beer! Now you know that is the only effort you have to make!
Mandy and Uwila - Hello here is the link (I hope).
Lynny - Ny DH is very similar and I am sure it is because I hover round him suggesting ways of doing things if I ever let him loose with the baby. He has really come into his own with dd1 though and will usually persevere and get dd2 off to sleep after I say I have tried everything and it is his turn. Thankfully that hasn't happened for a while now.
Well someone is smiling on me today. DD1 had a great time in creche and dd2 and I had a great time whizzing round the shops. I bought myself a lovely bead necklace in our craft shop and a new moisturiser. I have been using Clarins out here because it is half the price of the UK in our Naafi but my tastes will have to change a bit so I am trying a cheaper day cream by Simple to see what I think. I will be stocking up on Clarins before I return though! DD2 fell asleep in the car and dd1 was full of love and kisses. When we made her lunch together she gave me a big 'Thank you Mummy' and kiss every time I put something on her plate. The cherry tomatoes went on one by one . She then happily went to her room ostensibly for her nap but I can hear her happily playing with her teaset. So sweet. This is another reason why I love my bungalow. She can be in her room but that is only next door to the sitting room so I don't feel like I have shut her away (she can also stay in the front room while I shower as it is five steps away if I hear her yelling for me). I am going now to read about the Child trust fund and then to wash up. I have got myself a microwave curry tonight and have dd vegetables from yesterday to have with a sausage. easy tea! And I am half way through DH's course already. It is going quickly apart from the lack of adult conversation. I love my toddler but the feedback isn't quite the same as that of an adult!

katzguk · 02/11/2005 12:27

Hi all

Well i have to say i'm feeling a hell of a lot better far more happy, my mood seems to have improved.

i had a trulymadlybaby party last night whihc was fanstatic. 5 girlie friends cane over and we collectively managed to spend just short of £200. i got a fab pressie for hosting a year of photos thingy, where we get to have 4 photos taking professionally over the next year.

the scrapbooking - i buy from lots of places, QVC, hobbycraft, local crafts shops, ebay. Anyone who's thinking about it ELC have got a fab kit out at the mo which is great and reasonably priced at £10

haven't caught up with the messages so will post again later when i have

OP posts:

must dash!

JonahB · 02/11/2005 18:54

Just a quickie, as i'm on tea duty tonight..

Mrs Wed, I started DS on Aptimil (sp?). DS seems to have taken to it without any issues at all, which is one less worry for me.

Katz, glad you're feeling better today.

Lynny, I can sympathise with DH comments. My DH is totally fantastic with DS, until he starts crying, then it suddenly becomes my job as DH loses the ability to cope with the situation. He seems unable to calmly comfort DS without getting impatient or stressed. I hope he can sort his patience levels out soon, as he'll be looking after DS from Jan.

Oh and you have all totally inspired me to sort out a proper scrapbook for DS. Can i recomment a look on the Hobbycraft website. There seem to be a few good ideas and methods on there.

Right, off to make a couple of more recipes from Nigella. Wish me luck girls....

welshmum · 02/11/2005 19:01

RHM and SFX - I'm still up for Monday - what time and where shall we meet?
We're on Aptimil here too - I've started replacing feeds as of today and

sfxmum · 02/11/2005 19:09

just quick one
rhm and welshie- still good for monday, hope weather holds.
going to waterloo then walk or take bus to tate
about 11.30-12? where meet flexible

post later

Uki · 02/11/2005 23:57

Hi All
Well putting bub to sleep is geting better, we are doing the no pick ups just sing and sit thing.

Lynny I have done a picture pregnancy diary and a baby book type scapbook thing, I know you can buy hreaps of stuff on the interenet but I try and recycle stuff and keep it cheap-i keep all the wrapping papers from presents and use these and plain coloured paper as well as some stickers. I find nail scissors great for cutting out words and things, and some watercolour paints make great backgrounds.
You can buy plain bobks from art shops and then cover them in fabric.

Oh talking about books has anyone read 'lovely bones' it's beautifully written and hauntingly sad, my dh couldn't put it down and he never reads. i haven't finished yet have and two illnesses this week tummy bug now cold, so a bit behind with it all
cheers all

Skyler · 03/11/2005 05:39

My sister bought me Lovely Bones a couple of years ago. It is really excellent isn't it? The topic is such a difficult one and dealt with in such an interesting way. I really enjoyed it.
Well I spept very well last night (in between feeds of which I think there were only two . DD1's nappy was dry this morning too when she woke me at 6.30 to say she needed a wee. I have finally chosen a Child trust Fund for the girls too. Just have to do the very simple form now and post that off. Phew.
I was told last night that we have been allocated one of the very best houses on camp so that is quite exciting. Quite why they are giving it to us with a dog and two children under 3 is a bit bizarre but I am not arguing.
Right have to go. Musical Tots this morning so need to get moving. Have great days all.

sfxmum · 03/11/2005 08:35

morning ladies
bit of a catch while dd entertained. last night dd was extra tired and dropped off early, only 2 feeds during night so i am a happy bunny.

katz- glad you feeling better. i am still looking for my energy, guess will come when i manage to start running again.

skyler- fellow clarins addict, i do get cheaper stuff but always end up going back, i think its the smell. btw you doing great by yourself. know what you mean about adult conversation, sometimes at the end of the day i just want to talk but dh wants to switch off so i talk and he pretends to listen, so a happy marriage work

mrsF- hope work situation gets resolved, its stressful

bubb-100 cubes!! full of admiration iam

jonahB- dh will also be in charge of baby on days that i will be working, he is ok with the crying but not so great with the relentless nature of job i think, he thinks he must provide non stop activities. he is also yet to master the skill of watching telly or listen to radio while effectively paying attention to the child.

uki-not got to that book yet but mil recommended, last year i read a lot of very good and also very different books, like snow and the half brother. since baby arrived i have only read 2 books in 5 months very unusual for me

yahoo- updated pic of dd had look of lovely babies- charley cutie- who is the one with mum?

ok i need breakfast now also dd making strange noises...?
