Happy Christmas MMMs. This is my gift to you!

Blessed, I am so sorry to hear about your friend - how awful Sad! There is (still!) a terrible knife culture in Glasgow and my DH deals with stabwounds quite regularly; usually in young men. It is all such a terrible waste and so so sad for all involved.
And you being so far away cannot be easy either. I hope you can get some strength and comfort from those around you.

siamese, yep, I am aiming for the 1 year mark or so to stop BFing - with DS3 it was in his 14th month Grin. If, if we go skiing in early April and my parents mind the 2 littlies then that would be a 'natural' stopping point. I kinda cannot wait (new bras!!) and am a bit sad at the same time - no pleasing me, is there?!

Sleep - DH declared today that Joe seems to do '1 good night followed by 2 bad nights' and that seems about right - not a peep out of him last night from 8pm to 8.30 this morning after two absolutely shocking nights Confused - I am not aware of doing anything different...

We had 2 of DS2's friends round here today - the noise, the chaos, the injuries dramas GrinShock. I know one should never use gender prejudices, but I just cannot imagine an afternoon with a house full of girls being quite so.... hm, physical? Boisterous? Violent?? Thank goodness, one of the other mums stayed for a cup of tea and helped me referee.

We are all tired out - early night for boys and me Smile.

Dalrymps · 06/02/2011 21:28

Sorry pressed send before I finished.

Blessed- that is so so sad. I am so sprryypur friends life has been cut short, not fair and so cruel. It really does seem that sometimes there is no justice in this world. I don't k ow why people can be so horrible to one another. Hope time helps and you take comfort in the happy memories you had of him ((hugs))

Siamese- I would like to also stop bfing around his first birthday or at least only be doing it at night. Not sure how though, he still feeds during the day about 4 times and a few times at night too. I'm concious he still has to get milk for his weight as he's so teeny. I've been trying to get him used to a cup of milk but he hardly drinks any Hmm

Had the longest stretch of sleep for a while last night, 9.15pm- 4am, hope his sleep continues to go in this direction!

Sorry for lack of shout outs, thinking of you all x

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2011 21:35

Just back from Cork and wanted to say Happy Birthday to Evitas' gorgeous boy! The first of a wonderful bunch of babies. And Evitas, I hope you've enjoyed the day too.

No time for other shout outs. DS has had a shocker of a temp today, so a stressful time flying back from Cork (especially when a load of horrible Chelsea fans got on the tube at Hammersmith and caused so much noise
that DS woke up in his buggy!) resulting in us calling NHS direct for the first time. God, but the nurse we spoke to was brilliant. And now the neurofen (finally) seems to be working so he'll be off to bed soon.

But big waves to everyone in the meantime.

BlessedAssurance · 06/02/2011 21:39

thank you for your kind words, when we took the holiday in dec, at first we wanted to go via SA and spend a few days there but it would have been too much so we didn't, and i regret it now because you never think your loved one is suddenly going to die, he never met DD and i regret that a lot,,anyway i have been in contact with the other members of our group and we keep saying ' i can't believe it, well we better, and the worst part was i found out before they did, and they are in SA while i am here, much closer to him than me, so the phone calls were weird, because they thought i had been drinking or something..

FlipFantasia · 07/02/2011 03:54

Just back from A&E with DS (who is now thankfully asleep in his cot).

His temp kept on rising despite ibuprofen and paracetemol, so on the advice of the out of hours doc we headed to the hospital. Where everything is fine (thankfully). It appears to be some sort of viral thing (I was just relieved that the awful cough he's had for nearly 3 weeks now wasn't anything serious!).

It was quite a lovely paediatric A&E I must say, clean and bright and with lovely staff...though the hour and a half I spent trying to get a urine sample from my sleeping (on the boob) baby, while my husband snored next to me, with a programme called Hotter Than My Daughter on the TV in the background, was just horrible...

But I ramble on...

Blessed I am so sorry to hear of your friend. Tragic news, and it must be extra hard on you being so far away. Big (((hugs)) for you at this terrible time.

OK, off to get some shut eye. Night all.

SiameseCatWoman · 07/02/2011 07:43

Crikey flip hope you've got some sleep! How's DS this morning? How do you get a urine sample from a baby??

Dalrymps · 07/02/2011 08:01

Oh flip, you must be exhausted. Glad it's jot serious, worrying for you all the same. Hope he's on the mend.

PacificDogwood · 07/02/2011 10:03

Flip, I hope you all had a good night and DS is ok today Smile

Dalrymps · 07/02/2011 10:08

Jot?.. Not!

FlipFantasia · 07/02/2011 11:48

Morning ladies [yawn]

Thanks for good wishes - temp still high whenever the ibuprofen or parecetemol wears off, and generalised narkiness and clinginess, but we all got some sleep (albeit not much!) so just got to wait for DS to get over whatever this virus is.

Siamese getting the sample involved keeping his willy in the sample pot for as long as it took. Am sure it would be more complicated for a baby girl!!

Right, off to get showered and get some laundry on and try and get some semblance of normality around here!

Sariska · 07/02/2011 15:57

Shock and Hmm at having to keep his willy in the sample pot, Flip. (It's not the same but I remember following my dog around the garden with a plastic margarine pot waiting for him to cock his leg.... Wasn't fun.) Anyway, I hope he's better very soon.

Last full week of mat leave here Sad. How has this year gone so fast???

DD treated me to her best ever night last night: 7-2.30 (in her cot - yay!) and 2.35-6.00 in our bed. If she does that regularly I might just cope with work (on a sleep level, that is). Thing is, it was probably just a fluke and may have had something to do with the cocktail of medicines (baby cough mixture, nurofen, bonjela and carvol capsule) that I imposed on her before bed. Not for the hell of it, I hasten to add: she is snotty, teething and running an intermittent low temperature.

My friend had her baby this morning - EMCS. Unfortunately no chance of seeing them soon (she doesn't live on the UK mainland) but I am very excited anyway and only a little broody.

evitas · 07/02/2011 20:38

Flip hope DS is getting better.

Blessed so sorry about your friend

My mum is leaving tomorrow :( so now is DH and I to look after DS - we'll need to very organised!
x

slimmingsarahandco · 08/02/2011 09:44

Grin morning all x

hows everyone doing?

Arcadie · 08/02/2011 12:47

not too bad but a bit of a fresh bread addiction developing here... oh and Simmy's fine. I fear tooth2 is about to make an appearance.

How's everyone else?

SiameseCatWoman · 08/02/2011 14:15

Sister finally had her baby at 1203pm today. A whopping 10lb 3oz by emcs. A little girl with no name as yet, continuing the trend in my mums family of No Boys for 5 generations so far..

evitas · 08/02/2011 14:33

10lb 3oz?! Shock

Flisspaps · 08/02/2011 15:33

evitas happy belated birthday to DS! Our first one-year-old!

Blessed how terrible about your friend, thoughts are with you.

slimming not too bad here - DD decided that when she woke up for her 11pm bottle last night, she didn't fancy going back to sleep and would rather sit in her cot laughing at me, but screamed if I left the room Hmm Finally went off in our bed (which she can get out of, double Hmm) at about 2am. Felt shockingly fresh this morning though. Tooth number 8 is visible under the gum but she'd had paracetamol, ibuprofen and dentinox so don't think pain was the cause of her crying.

Siamese - they have to 'let' you go over as far as you want (or at least until the placenta fails or fluid level drops dangerously low). And IIRC from the induction threads on Childbirth, no-one has ever gone over 44 weeks Wink Bet you're delighted that your niece is finally here though Grin As I bet you are about your friend's baby Sariska

Flip Hope DS is feeling much better by now :)

Arcadie · 08/02/2011 16:02

Sorry she had to have emcs but HURRRRAAAYYYY for you being AuntySiamese! Congrats to Siamsis.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 08/02/2011 16:30

Congratulations, AuntieSiamese, what lovely news Smile! I hope the emCS was not too much of an emergency and that mother and daughter are doing well. What an impressive size Shock.

FlipFantasia · 08/02/2011 16:48

siamese congrats to your sister! Hope she and her daughter are doing great! It's so lovely that your DD will have a cousin so close in age to her Smile

Still in high temp hell here. Day 3 of all the ibuprofen and calpol we can give and still temps up to 105 F. Poor old DS, he's not himself at all and I miss my smiley happy pal.

But since he's now asleep (again, though this time in his buggy rather than my arms) I'm off to try and get some stuff (like having lunch) done!

scooby26 · 08/02/2011 19:59

Yay auntie Siamese! X

BlessedAssurance · 08/02/2011 20:41

congratulations siamese you are an aunty,,yey

evitas happy belated birthday..

sariska congrats on your friend having a baby..

Dalrymps · 08/02/2011 20:50

Ah ha so this is what the Hooray was for!Grin

Congratulations Aunty SiameseSmile fantastic news! Shock at the weight! Bet you can't wait to cuddle your newborn nieceGrin

evitas · 08/02/2011 20:57

Siamese I'm so sorry... I was so impressed with the weight that I forgot to say congratulations!! Blush

MandaHugNKiss · 09/02/2011 17:31

Congrats to AuntySiamese ! Oh, and I haven't even begun a rehoming process for Pippa. I don't know if she suddenly realised she'd overstepped the mark so utterly (doubtful) but she hasn't done it again in some weeks now. Hmmm. I guess I'll see how she goes. And definitely hold out for the best home you can for Monty - you know you won't forgive yourself otherwise. Have you tried feiway for him? It might help him adjust?

You know thinking about evitas ds turning one obviously got me thinking about the fact James will be turning one... but then I suddenly realised that DD is turning sweet 16 a few days before his birthday! How did I manage that?! Two mile-stone children 15 years apart!

She has kinda asked me for a tattoo for her birthday. It's small and tasteful (I say this as someone who has never wished to have one at all, ever. But my sister is covered in them!) and connected to music (a clef and treble clef arranged to make a heart (so one is upside down) which is her passion - she is going to be starting musical theatre at college in september all being good. Legalities aside, I don't know what to think. She's a sensible young lady and my heart feels to let her have her wish even though my head says no (because I'm SUCH a stickler for 'rules' and the law prescibes an age of 18 before you can be tattooed). Ugh. What do you wise MMM's think?
