I've cancelled. I think I'd have to kiss or cough on someone to spread it so Music and Movement would probably be OK but it's loud and I have a headache.

I think swimming is one of the things you're not meant to do with a bacterial infection because the warm water is a perfect breeding ground.

We'll go shopping for a bike for Alex instead. It's his birthday on Thursday and he's outgrown his balance bike so we're getting him a new one with pedals :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/03/2011 10:10

Oh no Blathers sorry you are still feeling so shitty.

Where you going for the bike? We bought Jake one from Toys R Us last year, a dino one and the pedals were really weird, they dont spin backwards without the wheel moving if you get what I mean. Should of took it back really but couldnt be arsed.
My dad ended up buying him one from Halfords, a space one and it's really good. (was loads cheaper aswell Grrr)
The dino one still works so it just means he's a very lucky boy that had two bikes!

Blatherskite · 14/03/2011 14:50

I had a look in Toys R Us and Halford but couldn't find anything nice so I went to a couple of local bike shops too. I think we'll end up getting one from Evans as it's the nicest one I've seen.

Was amazed at how much they cost though! I was thinking maybe £50 but anything not coated in stickers and plastic seems to be over £100!! Shock I want him to have something decent as he rides to school every day and we want to be able to hand it down but that's still a lot of money.

I told DH and he didn't do the sharp intake of breath which is a good sign but then he's the one who insisted we get Alex the Early Rider balance bike rather than a chaper one.

Called the doctors. Apparently swab results are in and doctor has written "dealt with" on them so I guess current ABs must be fine. Still feeling awful - had a headache and pain the throat all day but no where near as bad as I was last week. I went from when the symptoms came back on Monday night to Friday with just pain relief and no treatment though so I guess there's a lot of bug to kill and it might take a while. DH keeps saying 'given enough time, these things clear up on their own' but I've managed not to slap him yet Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2011 17:03

Oh no blathers, that sounds horrid, I really hope they start to work soon. Our GPs, who I find always really helpful, say that you should see some significant improvement somewhere between 48 and 72 hour after starting ABs and if not, then they aren't doing what they should be doing. If you've been on the new ones for 3 days and still feel the same I would ring and go back - it might be that you are v resistant to one type of AB and another might work for you as everyone is different, or they might up your dose or extend it... fingers crossed for you.

I had to collect Imogen today early as she has been sick twice at the childminders - she didn't have much milk this morning compared to usual, had two spoonfuls of her breakfast and then was sick. It didn't bother her though and she played all morning, so cm gave her a banana, she was fine for a few hours but wouldn't eat any lunch, then was sick again soon after that. When I bought her home she hadn't had anything since the banana and although tired she was pointing to the highchair which means she wants food so I gave her a couple of plan animal biscuits and some water, she was sick again, bringing back up the biscuits before she had even finished the second one. I have managed to get her to sleep in her bed and hope she feels better soon - do I bother trying her with dinner do you think or not? I'm also worried about giving her milk before bed too and don't know whether to leave that, or really water it down or something. She hasn't had any dodgy nappies though, although a bit of wind it seems so I think maybe a slight tummy upset and just see how she goes tomorrow? Anyone had this before and have any advice?

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2011 19:26

Thanks Lee, I think I remembered you told me that before. I tried her with a couple of small plain biscuits earlier, but she hadn't finished the second one and she was sick. Not a lot, but she just can't keep anything down. She slept for an hour and a half, got up for half an hour, I gave her lots of sips of water and tried to stop her guzzling it too quickly and then she went back to bed at 6.30 and I didn't give her any food or milk and she only had a quick wail before going to sleep. She doesn't seem to have a temperature or diarrhea (sp?) yet, but there is the whole night to come yet... and of course dh is away, been away on a stag weekend, got back late last night and off to the US again for the week this morning...

Blatherskite · 14/03/2011 19:35

Was going to say the same as Lee about trying to avoid dairy but she's beat me to it :) I think citrus fruits/juice is the other thing to avoid, keep it as bland as you can. Buiscuits was a good choice, sorry they came back up. Hope she sleeps through for you. Her little body will need lots of rest to fight the bug. Maybe some dry toast when she's next hungry?

I'm feeling tonnes better than I did on Friday, just impatient to feel well again now. I've got 3 days worth left so just over halfway through the course now, really hope they do the trick this time.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2011 20:02

Thanks Blathers, I've also got a sore throat (although nothing compared to you!) so was feeling a bit sorry for myself earlier. Hopefully she will sleep through and feel a bit better in the morning - had thought about a bit of toast to see how that went down tomorrow, or maybe try a biscuit in the afternoon again as they really are the plainest of the plain, so much so I would never dream of raiding the cupboard for them!!!!!

I am glad you are feeling a bit better, all of a sudden hopefully you'll feel right as rain - of course the issue is looking after little ones doesn't allow you the rest you need does it!

Thanks Lee - she slept right through until just after 7 pm so that was good. She did cry out a few times, but nothing I had to go to her for. This morning she had eaten a banana an oaty bar and had lots of water and so far hasn't been sick (been 1.5 hours too... so fingers crossed). She is exhausted though, she was up for 45 minutes, ate and went back to bed for an hour, then up for 25 minutes and then wanted to go back to bed again!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/03/2011 09:20

Blue, how are your nights going? Are they getting any better?

Blatherskite · 15/03/2011 10:15

Alex has one of these Lee. It's been the most amazing thing we've ever bought him.

It's so easy to ride that he's been comfortable on it from the very beginning and I think that's really helped his confidence. He takes it to school every morning and loves gliding down the road with his feet up slalom-ing across the pavement :) We looked at metal ones too but DH particularly wanted this one because it looks like a motorbike. I was a bit concerned that it wasn't very unisex but then it's not totally boy-ish either. Just had a look on the website and they do pink ones too. I was considering giving Alex's a quick coat of varnish before it goes away for Catherine as it has a few scuffs and I'm wondering now about painting ours pink too now. We saw some with foot rests when we were looking but I actually like that ours doesn't have one as there is nothing in the way of him getting his feet to the floor, giving him much more control and he's never seemed to have an issue holding his feet up, even now when he's getting too tall for it. They use their feet for propulsion and braking so they're more likely on the floor than off anyway. I've also seen some with brakes but again, I like that ours doesn't have them. It's much more instinctive for him to put his feet down and has meant that we haven't had any 'over the handlebars' type accidents. I love that it's light too. He has no problems picking it up or wheeling it round.

It was expensive but worth every penny I think. Alex adores it. He loves his new bike but will be sad to give up the balance bike I think.

Feeling better today. DH was out last night babysitting for his sister so I had to do bath/bed on my own on top of bike shopping all day and by the time I was finished, I was totally knackered. I was in bed before DH got home and he was in by about 9pm I think!! Still, feeling better for it today. One more day at home I think and then we'll get back to Catherine's activities, she must be so sick of being at home!

Glad Immy slept for you Hercule. Hopefully she's got it all out of her system and will be better today. Hope your sore throat is getting better too.

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/03/2011 11:02

Thanks blathers - glad you are feeling better too.

Imogen has just slept all morning - should I be worried? I am thinking it is her body resting so it can fight the bug and of course when asleep she must be digesting the food she at this morning. She got up at just after 7, was back in bed by 7.45 (after eating a little), then back awake at 9.15 ish and then back in bed at 9.50 and still fast asleep now. I poked my head in half an hour ago and she is just fast, fast asleep. When she woke up she was just whingy which usually means she is either hungry or tired. I am thinking just leave her get lots of rest and when she is awake give her water and some food (not too much at once). She isn't dehydrated, but I might get some diorlyte (sp?) later for her to just be sure. Does that sound sensible?

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/03/2011 23:19

She seems a little better - even more sleep this afternoon, she didn't stay up for longer than an hour!!!! As she wasn't sick I let her have breaded chicken and oven chips and ketchup for her tea - she didn't touch the chicken but enjoyed the chips and ketchup and I gave her one of those Ella's fruit and veg pouches too. No sickness, nappies not as nice as usual (if they are ever nice!), but not too bad. My brother popped over for an hour and played with her and she is starting to do a little bit of walking now - across our front room (which is not v big!) but that was exciting. I kept away from the milk though and gave her diorlyte before bed instead just to be on the safe side. She certainly perked up after the chips and ketchup anyway, and has gone to bed and stayed asleep so far... I am hoping she will be fine in the morning and can go to childminders so I can go to work... fingers crossed!

I was going to ask how old Alex was too blathers!

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/03/2011 23:20

Btw thanks for asking after Imogen and the advice - it made me feel better getting it all out in writing bizarrely, even though it probably isn't all that interesting for you to hear every minute detail!!!!

Blatherskite · 16/03/2011 06:55

We got the Balance Bike in time to take it to Centre Parcs just before Catherine was born so he'd have been 2.5. It was a very early Christmas present. He could have coped with it earlier I think but we hadn't seen them until then.

We got ours from Evans but I think it is a bit cheaper online.

This time 4 years ago, I'd been induced once already! It was another 38 hours until he made an appearance but we were on the way... :)

Glad Imogen is looking better Hercule. Sleeping will have been just what she needed and chips with ketchup is lovely comfort food. Hope she slept last night too

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/03/2011 08:43

poirot Hope Imogen is feeling a bit better today.

lee I'm not sure about the bike, Jake learnt to ride on it so he wouldnt of been able to tell any difference. I shall have to have a look at it and see.

blathers I bet Alex is getting excited now. You'll have to post a pic of his birthday cake if you are doing one. You always make the most amazing looking cakes!

BlueChampagne · 16/03/2011 12:52

Thanks for asking Hercule - our night's aren't much better I'm afraid, but I hope yours are. Thought we might be on the up when I managed to get him back to sleep in his cot in about 10 min when he woke about 12.30am but he woke again at 4 and wouldn't settle, even co-sleeping with us, till I retreated to the sofa with him.

The teething seems to have run into a cough, so it seems he always has some sort of excuse, IYSWIM. It's the length of time it takes him to settle that's the real issue to me. Don't really feel I can do CC if he's not 100% but I'm frustrated enough to be tempted.

Blatherskite · 16/03/2011 17:22

Ah but I don't usually have nasty tonsillitis when I need to make one ABF Sad Although I am feeling much better now.

We're out all day tomorrow so I won't make one for then and we're going to soft play with his friends on Friday so I'm just going to buy one but I will try to make one for Sunday when the family visit. It won't be the one I was planning as I've not got enough time to get all the bits now but I'll do my best to make it good.

I also have pirate cake cases (for Kwazii) and a fish shaped cutter to make Tunip-style fish biscuits Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/03/2011 18:58

Thanks everyone, she slept all last night and I had to wake her up this morning, but she was very happy. Didn't want porridge or toast and jam, but had a banana. I took her to the childminder who was happy to have her (she didn't have any other children during the day today) and Imogen ate most her lunch and dinner so she is quite happy tonight, although exhausted. She couldn't even make it until 6.30 before going to bed...!

Blue, hope your nights get better, there is always some reason isn't there which is v frustrating. Hope his cough goes soon.

Blathers happy birthday for Alex tomorrow, and glad to hear you are on the mend now. I am sure whatever you do about cakes they will be yummy and of course there is no reason not to make a cake any time of year in my opinion!

ABf - how long now until your op? How are things moving along with your new house too?

Lee, I am glad you asked about Kwazii, I thought perhaps this was something I should know about, but don't...

BlueChampagne · 17/03/2011 13:12

Last night was lousy as well, so I called the HV today. My message must have been effective as someone from the team phoned back and suggested we find a date for a meeting - before I've just had advice over the phone. She thought it might be an attachment issue, but I'm not so sure, given that he doesn't settle co-sleeping Confused.

DH going down with a sore throat but still did his bit last night too. Even DS1 got woken up Sad.
