Shiny new thread for Christmas!

I want to be a midwife too! Probably not enough to ever do anything about it though. And we couldn't afford the training anyway.
I loved the male midwife on OBEM too. And did you see that he came onto the thread on here about it!

RMCW How about something like a teaching assistant? The money's not great but the hours are good. Or a teacher (if you have a degree).

It's so annoying that the free pre-schl hours aren't until the term after they're 3. DS2 is going to do a couple of mornings probably from Sept till Jan then will hopefully up his hours a bit from Jan. We just can't justify paying for more than that as he'd have to go to at least 1 of those on a day I don't work so the childminder fees wouldn't go down. Also I don't think it's fair to send him to pre-schl on days I don't work when he's already in childcare 3 days a week. I don't know what we'll do if the childminder can't take him and pick him up.

Got my fingers crossed for you digi, don't know if congratulations is the right thing to say but hopefully I can soon.

RMCW is it you who has decided you shouldn't move while dh gets used to a change at work or was it his idea? Could you suggest putting the house back on the market in say 3 months time if he's still happy at work?

DH started his new job on Monday and seems happy so far. We got everyone out the door on time this morning and hopefully the childminder got ds1 to school fine.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 02/02/2011 14:03

Glad R is enjoying nursery Debs DP generally does the pick ups from nursery and it's like a scene from the Railway children! He goes in, and she shrieks 'daddy, my daddy' and runs over, knocking over anyone who gets in the way. She loves the place really.

And those thinking about pre-scho etc and the costs. Don't forget until they are 5 they don't have to actually go anywhere (and even then you can HE).
So, if it doesn't work for you, don't do it.
DP and I are thinking we might keep C in private nursery until she's 5. It suits our lifestyle and she could go 4 days a week plus one day with nana. Not sure yet but as her pre-school doesn't offer wrap around care, we'd be stuck in the afternoons and I'm not convinced about childminders.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/02/2011 14:09

Wow digi what wonderful news! And great that you're embracing it from day 1. Hope the consultant is really helpful.
DH's flight is still down as 'scheduled' although most of the other flights are cancelled - I think its due to the planes not being able to get into the airport due to the weather, but his is coming from the other side of the country. Just had me a mini-breakdown at the thought of him not coming home tomorrow. My mum has gone now so I'm on my lonesome for the next 24 hours. Actually quite looking forward to a quiet night in with no guests!!

debi that's great about DH's job, so glad he's enjoying it. We're not going to put DS in pre-school before his free place, we just can't afford it while I'm at home to look after them. I'm losing DD to school in Sept, so will just have DS and baby at home which will be really nice, we'll have four months of doing whatever DS wants before he starts pre-school in the January. And then the school run will get very complicated as there's no pre-school attached to DD's school so we'll be going to two different places in the mornings.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/02/2011 14:27

I've done it. I've put DS's name down for playgroup!
I was going to also put his name down at the catholic nursery school DD is currently at, but I phoned and they won't even let me put his name down. They know he won't continue through the school and as they're always oversubscribed he basically won't get a place, so there's no point :( To be fair it was going to be a logistical nightmare with me having to get someone else to pick him up while I get DD from school, but its such a nice nursery it seemed worth it. Playgroup it is then...

Debs75 · 02/02/2011 14:49

Nursery is making Robyn hungry. She had her dinner when she got home and then had a play with us. She has since polished off 2 more sandwiches.
I hope she can wait until tea time before more food, it is DS's birthday so we are having a little party for him. I made him a pacman cake, well DD1 helped as I was feeding Lucy. He'll probably eat the fondant ghosts and leave the cake but at least it looks good. Not Ace Of Cakes good but good enoughGrin

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/02/2011 15:36

We need a picture of the cake debs! And here's a big Happy Birthday to your DS!

RMCW · 02/02/2011 16:07

Its sort of my idea not to move...dh and ds1 really dont want to and thats whats stopped me in the past.

Dh is due to have his vasectomy at the end of this month Grin and what with the hassle at work I not sure its such a good idea....then again, if we sell and get the price we want then I think we will do it. Just not sure in the current market that we will get the price we need to move.

pacita · 02/02/2011 18:36

My goodness, what wonderful news, digi! I've just had a massive catch up due to having been kept away by an ill toddler (chest infection, wheezing, nebulizer and ABs, the whoooole shebang) and a hungry newborn.

...and I eagerly await the news from Star and MrsA!!

Ines is doing great, and the early panic is over (sorry ladies, I did flap a bit, innit?). She has learned to latch and does so with a vengeance. She was weighed on Monday, and at 9 days old she had already put on 120g. She feeds every 2 to 3 hours at night, and I occasionally get a full undisturbed block of four hours, which is a blessing. I think the Starlight marathon hormones must have kicked in, because I'm feeling pretty energetic on the whole. I also think it's the relief of not being heavily pregnant. One really does feel rather rotten and impaired!

I'm also having a bit of a scare. Remember the blocked duct? Well, it turns out that it was not a blocked duct. it is a pesky lump that appeared on my breast in early pregnancy, got looked at, prodded and ultrasounded and doctors said was probably nothing. Then it disappeared (or got masked by my pregnant boob's tissue). When the midwife felt it this time, she sent me to the GP right away. The GP felt it again, and I've been referred to the breast centre at kings. The GP says she does not think it looks ominous, but she does not want to take any risks. I must say that confronting your mortality just after having brought a new life into the world is not a nice feeling. I'm relieved that this is going to get looked at and we'll get to the bottom of things.

Really lovely to see you again, Hopefully. Have been following your progress on your blog.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/02/2011 19:31

pacita, really hope the lump turns out to be nothing. Good work on the weight gain :)

RMCW if the house isn't on the market then you can't sell...so you might as well keep it on and see if you get any offers coz one of them might be high enough...?

OP posts:
Meglet · 02/02/2011 20:06

bookmarking, back after dinner (pasta with tomato sauce and some garlic bread).

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 02/02/2011 20:13

Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies. Just lost a small amount of blood earlier (and af isn't due for 3 days - I know that for certain cos i chart my temps). It's now stopped so I don't know what to think.
To say I'm distracted is an understatement....

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/02/2011 21:01

Oh man...I feel your agony, its the longest few days of your life isn't it? Are your temps still high, or would you expect them to still be high at this stage either way? How early would you test, or do you like to wait til you're properly late?
Mr tesco has just been, so now I can go to bed. Zzzzzzzz. Last night on my own I hope!
Hope dinner was good meglet, sounds yummy :)

Kagey · 03/02/2011 09:32

Congrats Digi I shall keep fingers crossed for you, also for MrsA and Star too - let this be a lucky month for you all.

Carrie I hope your DH makes it back on time so you can get some rest.

Pacita best to be on the safe side and get it checked out for peace of mind for you (and us!).

Happy Chinese new year to you all! I am getting my hair cut today as I look like a scarecrow, I have not had it cut since June Blush.

Update on SPD whilst I am here, it fortunately has not got any worse thankfully, and I know my limitations now. I was given a support band which although does not help with the pain, it is nice and supportive of my huge bump.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/02/2011 09:53

Well news here is no news. Temps slightly up and no more bleeding but temps not high enough for me to get excited.
I would normally test saturday, so see if I can hold out.
Blimmin body - messin with my head!

Hope DH gets home Carries and yes, pacita get it checked out!!

digitalgirl · 03/02/2011 10:11

Thinking of you pacita hope it's nothing.

Feeling a bit blue this morning, symptoms have disappeared.

RMCW · 03/02/2011 10:17

pacita great news on Ines's weight gain...well done! I had breast probs during and after pregnancy with Toby (bleeding etc) Always best to get it checked x

carrie House is staying on the market but just not sure what we are doing now wrt moving. sigh. Its a nightmare.

mrsa Implantation bleed? I had one with ds1. Fingers crossed x

Hopefully has a blog Why do I not know of this?????????? Sad

Feeling very down today. Just realised that all the plans I made for this year...moving house, starting some training so I can get a job when Toby starts school etc are all probably pipe dreams.....cant feasibly move unless we get a certain amount for this house (and the market is heading downwards!) and there is no point training for a job I wont be able to do if dh is away for weeks at a time with his new role at work Sad

Hey ho.

Also really hacked off with the beaver leader too.....I ran the session last night (I am the assistant leader) and it went really well (we did story acting of "Where the wild things are") but at the end I told her to contact me if she needed any help to prepare for next week (we are making valentines biscuits) and she said;
"yes I probably will need you to get the stuff as I am at work all week"

This isnt the first time she has said this - inferring that I have all the time in the world!!!

AIBU to be a bit pissed off at this? Its not like I sit at home on my backside eating malteesers all day!!! (please ignore the fact I am currently on MN!!!! Grin)

sigh. Maybe I should say something? Maybe not?

I have a chronic health condition which I dont tend to tell people about as, frankly, its not of their business, I am my mums main carer (which isnt a barrel of laughs some days), I have a school age child and a very demanding toddler to care for (and up to last year was home schooling too ds1 too) and I also volunteer at beavers and the british red cross.

I really dont feel like I have loads of free time tbh so I feel really cheesed off when prople assume I have, IYSWIM?

grrrrr

pacita · 03/02/2011 11:50

rmcw, very annoying of her. I would just reply in a totally polite tone asking her to give you advanced notice of what she needs, so that you can schedule it in, as you need to do A, B and C. As a mother and a carer your work is as important as hers.

RMCW · 03/02/2011 12:03

meh.

Cant be bothered pacita Sort of dont want her to know she has upset me, you know?

Hope I'm not getting a chip on my shoulder about being a SAHM! Grin

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/02/2011 15:03

digi keeping everything crossed for you. Surely in the early days levels of hormones fluctuate so symptoms come and go. I had very tender boobs yesterday and today they've disappeared (the tenderness, not my boobs!)
I know I'm not pg yet (no bleeding, keeping all crossed) but that could be it.

RMCW could you get the stuff you need delivered by Mr Tesco if you're busy. And I tell you what, I go to work for a rest - SAHMs work harder!

Debs75 · 03/02/2011 16:10

Carrie The cake isn't good enough for a picture. I had an idea in my head of what it would look like but my skills aren't as good as my imagination. we went with a simpler design.
At least DD1's cake will be easier, she has seen a 7 layered rainbow cake where the cake is really bright. I just have to work out how to bake cake 1" high.

Pacita Hope everything is ok with the lump

RMCW · 03/02/2011 17:26

mrsa sigh. I wish. Dh is morbidly against paying for deliveries. Might do it anyway Grin Thank you for your kind words x

I have found today very trying in lots of ways.....took toby out to feed the ducks at a local beauty spot so I dont feel such a crappy mum today Sad

We are supposed to be going to london for the weekend, but I have some tests at hospital tomorrow, have got to put petrol in the car, take it through the car wash, pack for the weekend, do the ironing and clean the house. hmm....better get off MN Grin

Sad
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/02/2011 18:26

{{{RMCW}}} - sometimes it all gets a bit much doesn't it?

I know what you mean about others thinking SAHM have all day to run errands for them and knock up a cake at the last minute for cake sale that no-one told you about - ggrrrr

Also, did you know that Waitrose is free home delivery. I find if I do a really simple basic shop with them it costs no more than Sainsbo's.

I have my fingers crossed for you digi, keep the faith xxx

mrsA - my temp. fluctuations were really really subtle, almost to the point of being really hard to interpret. I hope it's the same for you.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you with the breast lump. Let us know how you get on xxx

What time is dh home carrie?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/02/2011 18:31

Oh, and I meant to say here is Hopefully's blog

RMCW · 03/02/2011 18:38

ILTMIMI Really????? Ocado is free delivery???? This makes me very happy Smile

I think part of it is that the comments that the beaver leader made last night were just the tip of the iceberg.....I have found I am very much "looked down on" for being a SAHM.

People seem to think I am either;
on benefits (never claimed a benefit in my life til CB and I will lose that soon!) or
too lazy to work or
too stupid to get a job
You get the idea.......thing is, if I did work outside the home I am sure people would judge me for not being a SAHM!!!! You cant win, can you?

The beaver leader is a nice woman but she cant really "let go"...she was desperate for help...said the colony would have to close if no one stepped up so up I stepped. I do everything she asks of me but, like last night, she cant let me run a session, she has to keep butting in. Its odd.

She works 30 hours per week in an IT dept. and has a 2 year old dd. She is married (to the District comissioner!) and has been finding it hard to fit everything in, which I completely sympathise with.

sigh. I sometimes wish there were 40 hours a day, you know?

Dh is going to take the dc up to his dads (on a battery scrounge!) so might get 20 mins to myself Smile

RMCW · 03/02/2011 18:41

ILTMIMI
Thanks for that link!

Wow, shes AMAZING isnt she? Smile
