Totally's original thread was for TTC after MC. It continued long after Totally herself graduated, and is still going strong. Totally's grads was set up as a thread for pregnancy post MC - i.e. anyone who graduated from Totally's thread and anyone else who had experienced MC and was now pregnant. It, too, is still going strong.

Now, more and more of us have graduated from Totally's grads - including LouiseSH, whose Georgie was born asleep. I suppose that makes us postgrads. We have travelled together for a long time and would like to stay in touch, but the pregnancy post MC thread is starting to get very big, and I think it should be allowed to keep its focus on pregnancy post MC. May it be as wonderful a place for support for current "members" as it was for us.

So this thread is a place for us to keep in touch, share experiences, and provide support.

(This is the first time ever I'm starting a thread - hope it works out...)

Toomuch congrats on the quiz!

Magic welcome Smile

Back home now, ciara a little grump - i think having had tons and tons of attention from all my family she finds DH and I not enough! Tomorrow should be fun Smile. She hasn't been doing great with feeds lately but hopeful today is going better.

Alba that sounds tricky re whether to get the injections.. i'm in the same boat, ciara due her 12 wk injections on wed but she is teething city, drool city and a v snuffly nose but like she has been snuffly for 12 weeks so I'm not sure. Would be interested though if you get any clarity on it..

Gilda how are u?

Meita how are u feeling?

Happy, crossed posts there... Sounds like we're both thinking along the same lines about the jabs. Don't suppose the snuffles will go till summer arrives (soon please!). I can't shift my cough either, poor little chap is so used to it he sleeps right through it! Thankfully I haven't broken a rib from it yet though - that sounds so painful Meita! I think I cracked a rib falling whilst learning to ski back in April, but since they can't do anything I didn't bother with xrays to confirm as I hoped I may be pg, thankful I didn't since I was! I was in a lot of pain for quite some time though, comiserations, it must be worse with a baby that you have to keep picking up and Ianto must be quite a weight by now.

Anyway... Time for Sunday evening 'who hasn't finished their homework' nagging session (oops, meant to say checking in with the kids...)

HappyGirl1 · 06/03/2011 21:22

that was meant to say 'a little grumpY' - NOOOOT a little grump!! i'm mortified at that typo! just gave her a bath - she is happy to be home i think Smile

HappyGirl1 · 06/03/2011 21:25

alba great the new sling is working a treat Smile! i had the baby bjorn while flying back today and she cried once she went in it, it was the only way i could manage her down the plane steps (DH flew back yesterday) and 4 people helpfully said to me she doesn't like the sling does she! I was like well i guess not but it's my only method of managing little baby plus a bag down an aeroplane stairs! so helpful Smile

ive just seen some photos of myself from yesterday on bookface and hellooo do i have weight to lose. i was going to have a rather delicious M&S choc dessert but think it's just a glass of water for me now, i must have about 2 stone to lose i reckon.

hope everyone is having nice sundays.

hope the homework check went well alba

Meita · 06/03/2011 21:40

lol happyG at your little grump Wink

feeling much much better here, DP has really been a star this weekend, feels like I had a proper holiday. Now heading for my third early night in a row, it makes such a difference when you've had enough sleep. Alba, TMT and everyone else suffering - hope those colds move on soon.

RHG I wondered too, at times, if it was normal for babies to sleep that much... at the time, every feed was taking me nearly an hour, so it was pretty much either feeding, nappy changing or sleeping. Perfectly normal I'd say. I believe the 'schedule' for growth spurts is at 6 weeks, and then every 4 weeks. But beware - your baby hasn't read the book... And then there are other things like sniffles, 4months sleep regression, jabs, and so on, that can upset your tentative routine.

Welcome Magic8 and cutest spiderbabes! Lovely birth story, sounds like an amazing experience.

OP posts:
clareanna · 06/03/2011 22:25

RHG growth spurts happen at around 2-3 weeks,6 weeks
and 12 weeks.

alba glad to hear the sling's working its magic! I've had DS2 in the baby bjorn once so far - he seems a bit small for it still (Despite being a suitable weight) so I might treat him to one...

magic wonderful to see you here - I have lots of probably stupid twin questions!! Do they sleep together in the same bed? Do they like being in the same position they were in you (very comfy) womb? Does their presence comfort each other?
questions questions...! How is DD1 doing?

I have managed to arrange for people to come over for lunch three days in row next week - WITH THEIR TODDLERS... This means that the house will be completely trashed - what was I thinking?! Still, after this I'll be straight to the GPs to get signed off as safe to drive! When did you other c-sectioners start driving again? TBH, it's not the driving that worries me, it's the lifting of the car seat in and out of the car (very high) I'm still not overly confident in picking up heavy things. ..

Gi1da · 07/03/2011 08:15

Oooooo Toomt what a TRIUMPH!!! Bloody brilliant news, hope there's been much proud brandishing of the winners cup this weekend! How lovely that you'll be down as the village champions in J's first year. SmileSmile

Happy lovely to see you. All good here. Can't believe how quick time is going and how much little Ren has changed already. I'm nostalgic for his cute newborness already! Someone at work last week was cooing over his 'tiny' feet and I just thought 'Tiny? They are huge! You should have seen them 2 months ago!'

Meita blimey, a cough? Hope you get well soon. I guess the lots of raw garlic cold treatment wouldn't go down too well with DS, garlicy milk, yeuurch! How's the BLW going?

Muser how's the feedathon, any let up? Have you had a chance to use both knife and fork yet Smile

Alba hope it goes well today. We have the 8 week check on Weds, I haven't made an appointment for the jabs, not sure if they do them then or if I need to make a separate appt. Not something I am champing to do Sad.

RE JABS for those who've had it, how were they afterwards? Also why the heck are they now doing BCG on babies? I had that in early teens. Saw a friend's 6 month old, she still had a horrid sore on her arm from having it at 3 months.I hate that it is so hard to get impartial advice on vaccs, all info and discussions seem to get pushed into either of the extreme Yay or Nay camps.

Clarea good luck on the toddler invasion this week! Another Mobi fan here, R goes out like a light in it. DH bit wary of it though, thinks it's too fiddly to get on (despite never trying himself and seeing me put in on in seconds) so we might need to get a baby bjorn or similar for him.

Well it is an absolutely stunning morning here right now. I hope the sun stays. I think I've been suffering from blues at bit. Had a few days where I just couldn't bring myself to do anything, feeling exhausted and lack of interest. Bit crap when I ran out of milk early on but just couldn't make it out to the shop Sad. Am sure a bit of sun will help.

Big waves to everyone. Great to see Magic here. Amazing birth story too!

Gi1da · 07/03/2011 08:17

Clarea I think it was about a month before I drove? As you say, it's not the driving itself, it's all the stuff!

clareanna · 07/03/2011 10:22

gi1da ds1 has been fine after all his jabs, I did give him a bit of calpol (drugs are good) and fed him straight afterwards. If anything the worst jab was the one he's just had pre school as he's very aware of what's gong on- cue 30 mins of wailing "why mummy? Why did they put a screwdriver in my arm? It huuuurts!!"
my decision on jabs was that I had them and so did all my friends and family and we were ok so I decided to trust the medical profession in this instance to stop me worrying. That said, if I felt ds1 was slightly under the weather I did cancel the appointment. It is a very emotive issue though.
toomt just had a vision of you in years to come when j has had her first baby and is complaining about lack of sleep you can make the type of comment my mum and grandma loves - "of course j when you were a newborn your father and I were village quiz champions!"

My lovely 94yr old grandma is famed for this type of comment- yesterday she said to me- "ds2 is lovely, well done, but I wonder what a girl would have been like? Perhaps the baby you lost was a girl- we'll never know now, what a shame..." [shocked] this is the exact thought I have had and locked away as being too dark to pursue especially when I had a beautiful bundle of gorgeous right here with me. I had to leave the house to calm down for a bit!

toomuchteaching · 07/03/2011 11:29

Grrr DH left me no bread and no milk Angry Cue enforced trip to the village shop. Tell me other people have thoughts of leaving their LO safely tucked up in her basket and just quickly running round to the shop because it would be sooooo much easier than loading her up for the sake of less than 10 minutes out of the house!? Call the social on me now! I didn't leave her behind by the way, but the cold air woke her and she demanded a feed so I still haven't had any breakfast.

Sorry on your grandmother's behalf clare... I come from a whole family of insensitive commenters so know where you're coming from. A highlight was being aged about 15, coming down the stairs and mum saying "Oooh, looking a bit fat today" (I was a size 10!) I'm still mad with her now [note to self - do not repeat mistakes with own daughter].

Thanks for all the quiz congrats... I'm still laughing about it to myself. Thankfully J waited til today to learn a whole new volume. Seriously, it's unbearable.

Redheadgal · 07/03/2011 11:59

at Clareanna's grandma's comment. No wonder you had to leave the house for a while. Of course we all think what our lost ones would have been like, but as you say we lock those thoughts away.

Also enjoy your week of utter madness Clareanna with the toddlers! Having said that we have the joiner and the painter back in. Although on balance, even with the sawdust and dust sheets they they probably make less mess than toddlers.

That's quite a cough Meita. Although I did know someone who cracked a rib taking off a jumper... Hope the pain eases.

I'm also fan of the Moby wrap. We have one of those 'for the house' and a Bjorn for 'outside'. The idea is the Bjorn is just that little more masculine and DH doesn't feel a total ninny wearing it. He always said he felt very self-conscious taking DSD out in it so rarely did it.

Thanks for all your replies regarding growth spurts. I'm sure she's pretty average, I just wish we saw more of happy wakey baby than we currently are :-(

Enjoy the sunshine everyone and hope people's colds clear up!

Meita · 07/03/2011 12:07

Gi1da, re- jabs, Ianto was fine for the first and second lots, but really screamed and screamed after the third. We didn't have any problems except with the sleeping... he had been sleeping through (as in, 11pm to 6am) for a whole week, then there was the jab, and he hasn't slept through since.
He got the BCG at birth (that is, as soon as he got off the IV antibiotics), they offer it here because we're near Heathrow, but one of my NCT friends who lives a couple of villages away wasn't offered it. Unless things have changed, they only offer it on the NHS if you live in an affected area. Still, you can choose not to have it. Unless you have close, enduring contact with someone carrying, the chances of catching it are slim. The highest risks are still, as ever, for teenagers, and the shot now won't protect them as teenagers, they will need a new one anyway. The only reason we chose Ianto to have it is because I had Tb as a baby (we lived in Pakistan then) which automatically puts any of my children at higher risk.
It's true it gives them quite an ugly bump. They say it lasts for about 6 months. Ianto's is still there but appears to be healing now. Still, it's kind of a shame, such beautiful pure baby skin, marred by an ugly scab...

OP posts:
toomuchteaching · 07/03/2011 12:24

Sorry clare I just read my post back and didn't mean to be flippant in comparing your grandmother's comments to my fat day, not how I meant it to sound at all... Blush I'd've needed to leave too, like RHG says I think we've all locked those thoughts away.

Do Moby wraps get the vote? I'm looking for a wrap at the moment. I was given a pouch sling but J hates it, she doesn't like lying sideways. We've got a carrier that DH uses, but it's got way too many clips and straps for my liking. He feels manly in it though! So is Moby the way to go? I'm looking for something easy and comfortable... please give me your advice.

I had no idea babies are offered BCG. We're jabbing next Monday and I'm dreading it.

Meita · 07/03/2011 14:16

TMT I don't have a Moby, but a different wrap. It's basically just a long piece of cloth. I find it very easy to use, have been all over London with it (would hate having to go to London with the buggy), never get a back-ache or anything. Ianto is happy in it too, when he was littler he would go straight to sleep, nowadays he loves to look around and see what's happening.

OP posts:
clareanna · 07/03/2011 14:53

TMT- that's EXACTLY the type of comment I was talking about!! No offence taken!

Gi1da · 07/03/2011 23:18

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the vaccs Meita and Clarea, good to hear first hand.

Alba I hope your appt went well today and X is settled and snuffles improving.

Reds shiny gold star to you for use of ninny Smile. I am making it my aim to use it in conversation with everyone I speak to tomorrow. Though that's not saying much, I went shopping today so technically don't need to go out tomorrow. If the sun's out though we'll go on an adventure...

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 08/03/2011 00:57

Quick wave, been feeding pretty much non stop from 6-11.30pm Confused and I am completely shattered. Thank you for your welcomes - will be back......soon!! x

AlbaDeTamble · 08/03/2011 09:27

Hope you got some sleep in the end Magic. I was asking a friend who has twins how she managed the endless evening feeds and she told be she fed lying down with the girls on top of her, biological nurturing style, and once she was used to it she could snooze whilst they both fed. But she also mix fed, sanity saving top ups (got onto this when I was so worried that my top ups would lead to switch to formula, it didn't for her, just kept her sane).

I started replying re jabs yesterday but lost the post. My experience with DS1's jabs almost identical to Clareanna's. It's far worse when they're three. But X hasn't reacted yet. If anything just sleepier than usual. No howlywails last night! Hurrah! I did have to be lying next to him from 8pm onwards, but I'm so tired at the moment I was quite happy with that. Haven't needed the calpol, which I'm pleased about, maybe just because I was all prepared with syringe at the ready... I remember struggling terribly with a spoon with DS1!

On the deep hidden 'what if's... Clareanna I go through the maybe they were both girls in my head. I'll never know, maybe they were. It was worse whilst I was still pg. Now, I really wouldn't change a thing. Which I'm so relieved about. I remember an early post from SamB saying she wouldn't change Ruby for the world and I worried so much that I wouldn't get to that place. But I have Smile

AlbaDeTamble · 08/03/2011 09:31

Crikey, now I've written that I'm feeling really teary remembering my little lost ones.

toomuchteaching · 08/03/2011 09:54

I asked DH about six months after my MC if he ever thought about whether the LO was a boy or girl and he clearly couldn't see what I was on about, but in my head I'm absolutely convinced it was a girl. I don't know why I just feel it. When I was pregnant with J, and even now, I don't really link the two, which is odd. But like you say Alba I wouldn't change a thing now.

J cried all evening again yesterday, well except when on one of our shoulders. DH put her down for a while and she screamed, not cried or howlywailed but properly screamed. Could it be pain from wind? It made me come running, it was horrible. She wanted to be upright all day too. It's weird though because after the 10.30pm feed she happily lies down and sleeps. I can't wait for my (newly ordered) sling to arrive because it would make the upright thing a lot easier. We also didn't get any poo yesterday, it's been 36 hours at least, so I wonder if that's linked?

I went for a woven sling in the end as I read a bit about stretchy ones not being so good when they're heavy and J's already getting big. I figure if I've never tried a Moby (and they look great) I won't know what I'm missing!

Muser · 08/03/2011 10:03

I have a Kari-Me sling, which is like a Moby, but am a bit confused by it. I'm going to a sling meet tomorrow to help me figure it out. What do you all do about bags when you're out and about using a sling? Does it not get a bit heavy carrying baby and bag?

louisesh · 08/03/2011 10:15

Magic lovely photo arh......XXX

Hi all XX

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 08/03/2011 14:41

Hello! The girls did go off and I we gave them a bottle in the night which went down a treat and thankfully we got some sleep. Back on the boob with a vengeance this morn Grin

Hi Louise how you doing?

Muser I know nothing about slings Confused I think a sling is going to be a no go for me but I was kindly given one of these car seat straps which will make my life easier.

Toomuch ah bless that is horrible when they properly give out!

Clare they do sleep in the same moses basket and will continue to sleep together until they start disturbing each other, rolling etc. They do comfort each other and you can see them looking across the room for the other t'is very cute. They also squeak at each other in the moses basket if they are awake. They generally sleep face to face and usually one ends up with a hand in the others mouth or having her face sucked Grin They were in a funny position at the end one was curled in a ball and the other wrapped around her. Very cute. They are fascinating to watch.......how did you get on with your lunches?

Alba I hate that when you lose your posts this has happened to me a few times when I have been updating on my phone so have given up trying.

Re Jabs, DD cried with all of them which I found really hard so plumped DH with the job after the first lot as I couldn't stand hearing her cry like that. She needs her mmr booster and I am dreading taking her now she is 4 1/2 as she knows what is going to happen Confused Sad She never really suffered any side effects thankfully just a little grumpy. The twins have had so many blood sugar tests in their heels while we are in I am used to their little squeals already. Didn't know about the BCG though I thought I saw something in my PN notes, will have another read.

Ok, there is some fussing going on and I think it is feeding time...........

Hope you are all enjoying the lovely spring weather :)

SamanthaB123 · 08/03/2011 15:19

Sorry for total lack of posting - loads going on but hopefully will be able to catch up soon.

Muser I have a Kari Me sling. Search on You Tube for video to show you how to use it. I love it and so does Ruby!

Regading jabs, no side effects here at all. We've had them all for a while and nothing happened. No calpol needed.

Magic your babies are just gorgeous, congrats again.

Sorry to those with the crying, hope you're bearing up. I find wine helps, it must go straight to my ears Grin.

Meita Ouch! Hop you are more comfy now.

I read at night when I'm feeding but too sleepy to post. Moving house Saturday, can't wait now!
