Sorry bit boring I know but I didn't want to make any reference to spot as I don't want to jinx her and have her baby come early, then it would be my fault. Also didn't want the mad rush at the end of the thread. This way we've had plenty of time.

rubes I have no footmuff for DS either, he's way too big for it. Blanket wrapped around has to make do I'm afraid.

JB if you move to Lancaster you'll only be an hour away from me

Right need DC's in bed asap so I can go too, feel bleurgh.....

urbanewarrior · 22/11/2010 19:58

Avo we've gone for toy kitchen for birthday and going to steal your sylvanian families idea. Although interesting that we too are getting dd what ds has- but because it's ds it's cars of her own.
Going to pub quiz tonight so night off from cocktails - next one on list is a monkey glad Hmm can't see myself cheerfully asking for that very often. But tis important to be thorough about these things.
Rubes am going to look at our phil and teds re:sleeping bag.
Eek train mayhem - better go.

SummerLightning · 22/11/2010 20:30

My DS has a crappy 2nd hand toy kitchen which he loves, and his male cousin is getting one for Xmas (non 2nd hand and crappy) so they are not just boy things!

Rubena · 22/11/2010 20:44

Urbs I think by 'attaches to buggy seat' they mean just by way of the 5 point harness. Didn't see any other way last Winter than that either.
I haven't actually tried the P&T Footmuff on the main buggy seat since he's got big, but he was on the toddler seat on top today and the Footmuff actually fits onto it higher up because the seat is smaller and the straps close together, so perhaps that is the reason it's too small for him and it may work when he goes back in the main seat so will try it tomorrow (difficult to explain) I would not faff around with blankets either.
Have you seen these Deids?

Yes I know Vagooli (Re DH) I agree, and have told him so and I just did again, and he said 'yeah it's not ideal'
I think the bosses etc feel that they are on such a skeleton staffing that the need for them at work even slightly ill far outweigh the risks. I think it's slightly different than nurses for several reasons, one being that there are more of them. I know if I was a patient I'd rather have a doc tending to me with a cold than no doc at all, plus they're pretty well covered in theatre I suppose.

Rubena · 22/11/2010 20:48

Karen Millen dress 16 quid. Ebay. Bargain. Happy days. Grin

SummerLightning · 22/11/2010 20:54

Ooh nice one rubes! I need someting for DH's Xmas party, i think it's black tie, maybe I will look on ebay. I love ebay.

VagolaJahooli · 22/11/2010 22:15

SL I've been trying to find a link for the bike footmuff thing but can't find it. The thing we use on DS2's pushchair now is more like what Rubes posted a link.to.

Rubes when you search for clothes do you type in a specific designer or brand? I've never had very much luck with clothes on eBay, most notably was a quite scary looking pair of maternity jeans. £15 for a Karen Millen dress is amazing.

Right must go to bed.

JB all very exciting about the move. When do you start looking? Was it you who was thinking of buying your parents house?

The good news is he slept through, the bad news is only until 5.15am...its only 7am and I need coffee. I'm trying to hold off until after I get back from the school run but I think I neeeeeed it.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 23/11/2010 06:49

Have the coffee and then another at 7 am. I am languishing with a cuppa and getting a later train - was in early and left late yesterday.

Rubes: I was too tight to get the footmuff, we made do with blankets! In the cold weather I just bundle the DSs up in hat, gloves, coat etc. But then it rarely gets very cold here. I had some great fleece lined trousers for DS 1 which I got from one of the overpriced organic baby shops in Stokey. Can't remember the brand but they were designed to be worn with cloth nappies.

Urbs: I don't like to interrupt your important research, but have you considered the Alexander Cocktail? Yum.

VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 06:53

I need an Alexander cocktail.

OP posts:

Here you go: www.onyxbar.net.au/m-brandy-alexander.htm

Is the no-milk routine going down better, apart from the early waking?

Rubena · 23/11/2010 08:11

Sick. Still in bed. Sore throat. Congested. Great. Vag do you seriously leave the house before coffee? I rarely leave the bedroom without one. Yes def search for size/brand/colour all that on eBay otherwise too much to weed through.

spotofcheerfulness · 23/11/2010 08:47

Eugh, sorry to hear that Rubes Sad. IS your DH staying home so you can get some rest?

Vag I think you should give in to as many cocktails coffees as you can get down you. Good on the sleeping through, but that is early.

T already a lot better though still not totally back on form. Just desperately need to get his immune system back on form so we can get through the next few weeks.

Saw M/W yesterday and she has given me the green light for a HB so will order pool today. My SIL is a 3rd yr student midwife and she's going to be at the birth with me, but acting in a more supportive role than professional.

JB that all sounds positive re- your DH's job and the move. How are you feeling about it all - esp now clackered?

On the pushchair footmuff chat, we have one for the single Maclaren but the sleeping bag for the P&T is way too small for T so just use a blanket. But also need to look into warmer winter trousers. Maybe some salopettes would be good...

Beans33 · 23/11/2010 09:05

Summer

VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 09:05

I might have a look as I can get it sent to our friends in UK and pick up when we get there.

I've got this silly rule Rubs that I don't have a coffee before 9am. I'm worried if I have one earlier I'll end up having way too much. Don't worry though if I'm going somewhere after the school run which won't have coffee I always have one before I go. I really need it this morning. I've actually made a pot rather than just making one with the coffee machine, it's a four cup kind of day.

Effie yeah he is def off the morning feed, he woke up asking for a "duddle" rather than "mook mook" this morning. I hadn't realised how much he was getting from that feed. He only fed for about 15-20mins but after he would only want a slice of toast and maybe a banana by now. So far this morning he has had a large bowl of porridge, 3 cracker biscuits, a clementine, (my) slice of toast, a piece of pear, and he's working through a bottle of milk now.

Ah I've had my coffee now. I got a puncture on the way into school today so was a bit later getting back.

VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 09:11

Ooh cross posted, hello Spot, I'm about to get another.

Rubes sorry your feeling unwell, I guess no chance of a rest. Can you get a hot toddy into you.

OP posts:
Beans33 · 23/11/2010 09:22

Morning all!

Just a quickie to say hello to all. I've just had a decaff coffee. I think my body is rather thick as it seems to give me the same sort of buzz, even though I know it hasn't got caffeine in. V odd.

Wow, Veg - that's a lot of breakfast. I'm lucky if DD1 eats 3 raisin wheats and half a piece of toast! No wonder she's in 25th centile! She weighs 1 stone 10. Not a lot. DD2 also in 25th centile. Oh dear. Mini children! DD1 still in most of her 12-18 month clothes!

Ooh, DD2 shocked herself and me this morning, by rolling from her back to her front. She started doing front to back when she was 6 weeks old! And now back to front at 5 months. V proud. DD1 rolled back to front at 8 weeks, stopped at 14 weeks and didn't do any other form of rolling til she was about 8 motnhs old!

I forgot to tell you all a boring story, but Summer - I feel horrible for you having such a sh*t MIL. I am v lucky with mine. She is a gem. Sometimes she drives me insane, but she's basically a good, kind woman. I think I said this before, but they had a daughter who died when she was 5, before DH was born. V sad and they are amazing about it and to have coped. They do talk about her, which is lovely. She was called Penny and died of Leukemia. V sad as these days she would have survived.

Anyway, DH's uncle told me that DD1 looks very like Penny, but he couldn't say it in front of DH's parents because it might upset them. I was talking to MIL, who I am quite close to and she was talking about Penny, so I asked her if what the uncle had said was true and she said "Oh yes, she looks so like her, it's amazing. She's incredibly beautiful and we love her so much." I nearly wept. She was terribly worried that I would be upset in case history repeated itself with Izzy. But actually, I don't really believe in that sort of thing. In fact, am really touched that she looks like Penny and am really really glad as it makes them so happy. It's lovely.

Ooh, have nearly brought self to tears!

Off to Islington this morning as DD1 in nursery.

Rubena · 23/11/2010 09:30

ok I'm downstairs now. DS spent about an hour tugging at me to get up so I did then he didn't come downstairs! He's at our bedroom window standing on a stool waving to cars as they get backed up on our road and sit there for ages!
He's finally come down and fed the dog for me.
I feel shocking today. Will be reaching for the Day Nurse.
Spot glad T is feeling better. As if dh could stay home to give me rest! Thanks for the chuckle though, but it would be slightly frowned upon at work! He'd call mil over if I was bad. I'll soldier on. I wouldn't want him to to be honest as I'm just as concerned that he kisses arse is being a reliable colleague as he is since it doesn't help you progress if you're not, and I'm all about him progressing! Thank God Sainsbo's are coming, but I still need to go out to the bank - bugger.

I'm going to get mil over for the night and day before we go to Aust so I can sleep most of the day to be recharged for the flight! is that bad?

VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 09:31

Lightening I finally found a link to the little fietsvoetenzak it looks less bulky and straightjacket stylie in reality.

OP posts:
Rubena · 23/11/2010 09:31

Oh and Vag - that lump I have is finally going down (slowly) So must have been a stubborn lymph node.
Gosh I'm sneezing all over....

Rubena · 23/11/2010 09:34

Look away Summer! DD just sneezed and the dog just licked her fair across the face (her snot) about 5 times! That child is building up such a great immune system!Hmm Grim

Rubena · 23/11/2010 09:35

That looks very cool vag - might need to get one for DS. Where from?

VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 09:59

Well I'm glad it is Rubs as it has its work cut out with your latest infection. Your gonna need all lymph nodes running on full power for this one. That is so sweet your DS feeding the dog. He really is a sweet little man.

Beans that is so lovely but can't comment as I'll well up.

Rubs I think that is a brilliant idea. Apart from being well rested you will also be ready to give them loads of attention, rather than being sickofthesightofthem with them at home constantly then straight onto the plane.

OP posts:
VagolaJahooli · 23/11/2010 10:04

Rubs I need your dog to keep my DS2's nose clean. I'm not sure where you could get them from over there. I got one free from a friend who bought it at a bring&buy sale for ?5. She bought it for this winter as her boy is similar age but now she is going to Australia for most of the winter. I'll investigate for you as I could always buy here and send or bring it over at Christmas.

OP posts:
Rubena · 23/11/2010 10:09

Vagooli - come visit us - she'll lick them to death if they aren't scared - or if they are I can lock her away! In fact wanna come on the flight to Aust with us? Grin I think your boys could show ds how to behave Wink
Don't go to any trouble but if you can find one or find out where - otherwise I'll keep searching online.
