Sorry bit boring I know but I didn't want to make any reference to spot as I don't want to jinx her and have her baby come early, then it would be my fault. Also didn't want the mad rush at the end of the thread. This way we've had plenty of time.

OP posts:

EffiePerine · 21/12/2010 16:39

Oh no JJ! Any chance of a partial fix? Or emergency heaters?

DeidreBarlow · 21/12/2010 16:47

jj That is rubbish! Do you have any small camping heaters or anything? My mum has just phoned and their heating has broke! Its only 2 yrs old though, and British Gas won't get to them till Thursday.

My nan will be in for at least the next 10 days, so defo in at Xmas. But Mum says she is okay, very weak though and the consultant says that all being well she should make a full recovery and can try and have it reversed again in 3 months!

jam that is great about NY!

deckthehallswithvagolaJahooli · 21/12/2010 17:49

Hi ladies haven't caught up but just to let you know we are all fine no series delays, love our snow tyres. Have just spent two nights in oxford now staying near stonehenge for the solstice.

SummerLightning · 21/12/2010 17:52

Hurrah veggie has been on facebook sounds like she got where she was going fine!

Jj that is rubbish - What are you going to do - are you in cambrdige for Xmas? You can come and stay here if you like - we will be away though! Well hopefully anyway depends on snow situation

JumpJockey · 21/12/2010 18:02

Right - they can get parts (praise the Lord!) but don't know when - so at least it can be fixed. He did say we'd need to replace the whole thing in the next year or so, I reckon we should just move house and not tell the next people (like wot Clive our predecessor did Hmm) but that's perhaps a slightly extreme measure.

Am feeling a bit cheered up now, have had to come into work for my late shift and there's a big tin of Quality Street :)

So, catch up time.

Deids - sending big strong recovery vibes to your Nan, thanks for updating us.

Jam - definitely think sending a text is a good idea just so she knows you're thinking of her and able to talk if she needs you.

vaggie - hurrah! So glad to hear from you and that you arrived safely. Stonehenge must be pretty fab in the snow.

Effie did I recall thatyou were asking about getting your chimney fixed? We had ours relined with Eldfast aka fireproof concrete as the original victorian chimney hand't been touched, if you think you might go for it I can find out how much it cost. Was certainly easier than having a metal lining as that would have involved bashing holes in various walls Shock And it does mean that while the heating's buggered we can at least have a fire! :)

Rubes Xmas Grin to the sleepy DS - can you pass some of that to the rest of us please?!

spot good to hear you've been getting some constructive advice re poor little T. And also good to hear your mum's gone and peace is restored Wink

and finally some good news for the festive season - you remember my mate C who lost her baby at 11 weeks earlier this year - she's PG again :) AND my pal with the kiddies in America is booked on a flight back on Christmas Eve, apparently they're going to be on the 6pm and 10pm news so keep an eye out :)

Rubena · 21/12/2010 18:06

That's rubbish JJ - not ideal at all.... My BIL's an ex Brit Gas boiler guy. if he was closer I'd send him over. Hope you get a solution.

Very true Lady, very true.

Well dh slept it off most of the day - it was exactly what I had and he is much better now. Gone out to get more coal / wood and taken ds so I can get a chance to disinfect the house Grin

Oh looks like they're back...

Hi Vaggie!

LadyThompson · 21/12/2010 18:32

JJ, that's good that the parts EXIST but in the meantime can you get thyself to Argos to buy some supplementary heating in the meantime? Thsy sell all sorts, quite reasonably. It was me with the chimney. Still waiting for more quotes and sadly I think we do need a metal liner...Like your good news at the end!

Hi Vag, glad you are safe!

DB, that sounds wholly more positive.

Rubes We have a tree! Yes. DP very manfully got one from the farmshop which has reopened. It is very small but size isn't everything! It will be groaning with decs before the evening is out Grin

LadyThompson · 21/12/2010 18:33

Oh and none of my cards will arrive as we haven't had post in or out since Friday. But what can one do?

LadyThompson · 21/12/2010 18:34

And glad your DH is better now, Rubes. Right, must go.

EffiePerine · 21/12/2010 18:36

Hello Vaggie :). Glad to hear you got over safely. Isn't there a lunar eclipse as well as the solstice tonight?

Jj: it was Lady with the chimbley problems, though we do need to have our swept again soon. Good to hear the boiler is fixable, if only temporarily.

SummerLightning · 21/12/2010 18:37

He he xposts with vaggie making me look a nobber.

EffiePerine · 21/12/2010 19:30

Hooray for a tree LadyT :). I like the image of your intrepid DP as The Barrister Who Saved Christmas.

EffiePerine · 21/12/2010 19:31

Nah Summer you just look like you're abreast of the vital news of the day :).

Rubena · 21/12/2010 19:38

Grin @ Effie! Too funny! So pleased for you Lady. I will expect a photo on FB Grin
I meant to say earlier dd hasn't had cradle cap (yet) but I remember ds getting it quite bad but can't remember when (quite young I think) I washed his hair in that dentinox stuff which I think did zilch, and then I smothered his head in baby oil. now I'm a picker, so it got really really soft with the oil on it and I remember scraping it off with my finger nails (yuk I know) but it all came off and never came back after that and I kept using the CC shampoo for a bit after.
Oh and my SS got a substitute present as the original isn't going to arrive in time so I sent something else - I wanted them to have something as I was quite late sending so hope it's acceptable Smile

SummerLightning · 21/12/2010 19:42

Whoever is my ss don't worry as I am going away for Xmas tomorrow so if it's not posted I will get it in the new year anyway!! Am saying nowt about whether I have posted mine or not as don't want to give the game away.
Hurrah for lady's tree!

JamInMyWellies · 21/12/2010 19:53

Hurrah Vag is not a snowman!

RUbes glad DH is feeling better.

Another hurrah and mucho Christmas cheer for Lady's tree.

And a hot hurrah for boiler parts. Get thee down to Argos or tesco for some electric heaters.

I have texted my friend the poor girl is still in labour. They initiated it on Sunday. She is understandably exhausted.

Must just tell you a little cheerfull thing. DS1 was being naughty on Sunday. DH was downstairs with him and I heard him say Archie it is not funny. Mummy will be very cross with you... To which he responded with, well Daddy it is a little bit funny. Xmas Grin

SummerLightning · 21/12/2010 21:27

You poor poor friend Jam Sad

Archie is a cheeky monkey though, that made me smile Xmas Grin That's my first attempt at a santa grin.

Oh I meant to say I like all Lady's suggestions for names. Alistair is nice, and I have a friend with a T and also a Freddie, so I like that too as a combo. But I still think Samuel as both me and Rubes had that as our boys name so the thread needs a samuel. Is it rosmera/tilly who had a Sean? Oh and I ALSO like Nicholas. For some reason DH vetoed that for us though.

spotofcheerfulness · 21/12/2010 21:57

I like Samuel too, just need to convince DP as he has a fear of alliterative names. So that would be the same for Sean. Love Alistair, could retry that one. Benjamin and Joseph are also contenders.

Jam am v sad for your friend, I can't begin to imagine how awful that must be for her and her DP. So, so sorry.

Vag glad you're all safe and sound. Enjoy Stonehenge, you nutter, wrap up warm Smile.

Good news on the tree, Lady, hope it's some compensation for not being in your lovely London pad.

Deids that'll be tough for your poor nan spending all that time in hosp but glad it sounds as though they're optimistic enough to try the op again. The very thought of going through it all again though must be very daunting.

Anyone had any experience of turning an OP baby? MW today told me mine was wrong way up, and said if I couldn't turn him by getting on all fours and wiggling my arse then I'd have a long and painful labour Hmm.

Glad you've got some better news on the boiler front JJ, enjoy the choccies! I have already eaten the contents of my advent calendar plus all the choc tree decorations so am most likely to give birth to a chocolate santa...

Rubena · 21/12/2010 22:11

Spot - go with Samuel or Benjamin!! Xmas Grin DS was so nearly Samuel but we both also liked B so mil was pushing so hard for S that we went with B Grin and were planning on calling dc2 S as we were convinced she was a he!!!
Awww I'd love another little B on here too Xmas Grin
I was told to get on the edge of the sofa and do kind of a hang upside down off the edge Hmm not because I needed the baby in a more birthable position (obviously) but because I was having some pain with the wrong position she was in. She turned really late though, by herself.

EffiePerine · 21/12/2010 22:19

Spot: Benjamin and Joseph = DH and BIL. Good names both of them. DS1's middle name is Joseph :).DS2 was going to be Maximilian Frederick but we thought he might have delusions of empire so he ended up with Daniel Charles as middle names.

LadyThompson · 21/12/2010 22:19

Don't have any knowledge of turning an OP babe, Spot, I do hope someone else does. (Yes, SL, it was Tilly with a Sean).

I will try the picking option with the CC, Rubes Grin I am not really a picker but I will man up.

I am so sad for your friend, Jam. It is quite shocking what some people have to go through Sad But I will report a nice thing re: some people I don't know very well, but still - a colleague of DP's in chambers and his wife had a baby girl this afternoon. Nothing remarkable about that you might say but they have had so many miscarriages over about ten years and spent over £50k on fertility treatment. Yes, you did read that right. Our children are so precious (I know we all know that anyway).

Yes, Vag, please keep warm!

deckthehallswithvagolaJahooli · 21/12/2010 22:33

Gosh I'm so sorry I caused so much worry. My friends broadband was down and DHs 3G was so slow I couldn't open mumsnet at all. I resigned myself to not being able to contact Lady and meet up but just realised I could have texted. I so wish I'd at least been able to check this thread as I've been in oxford since Sunday with a big car with snow tyres so could have brought you anything you needed!!!! I'm so sorry Lady but glad your valiant DH saved chrissie and stopped DS2 from starvation.

We still have limited access here but there is a little chef with WiFi next to the hotel and if I go outside and stand next to it I can get access so will type this then pop down and do so.

Spot I'm thinking of you and your niggles.

Lightening DS2 is the same, and refuses to say sorry when he does something to his older brother. However tonight he threw my phone onto the floor and I looked cross at him and said I didn't like that he did it and it made me cross. I then walked into the bathroom to help DS1 with something and DS2 picked up the phone and brought it to me and said sorry! I think eventually they work it out. Now I just need him to stop biting chunks out of his brother.

There is a lunar eclipse tonight but not sure we could see it, or the sunrise over stonehenge tomorrow, but will be nice to be there and be so close to the stones. Going to have a look at woodhenge afterwards.

Rubes I was hoping to still drop in but your DS sounds so unwell not sure its a good idea as DS2 has a little cough so don't want to make DS worse. I have to drop DH somewhere so he can get public transport into kings cross. Do you know if reading trains are running? If I have to I'll drive him into town but he needs to be there around lunchtime so thought train might be quicker. What do you think. I might FB you Rubes with my number then if we can catch up you can text me. Actually ill just tell you now its 0031653149114

Deids love and white light to your nan, I'm more than a little Xmas Hmm about her treatment, soft?!? Pain is what they should be closely monitoring to assess if there has been a problem with the surgery.

And thinking of your friend Jam and text def a good idea.

Right better sort out to send this loads more to say but will catch up.when we have better internet.

deckthehallswithvagolaJahooli · 21/12/2010 22:39

Gosh cross posted but can't write much as am standing in the cold next to a now closed little chef to get this internet access. Spot good luck with the turning a friend had OP baby but while it started off painful her baby turned whilst in labour and she actually had a fairly fast waterbirth.

I'm so excited about tomorrow but better get in before my fingers freeze. No chance on.getting on.FB now so glad I already posted my.number Rubes. No need to text f you don't want to but if you fancy s visit and I don't have to drive DH into Kings cross we can sort it.

SummerLightning · 21/12/2010 22:53

Blimey vag you are one dedicated lady posting to us all stood out in the snow

spot I think at my vbac course they said as well as the hands and knees arse wiggling stuff try not to slouch backwards on sofa and lean forwards keeping your hips forwards. Sit on a birthing ball. Play with your toddler on the floor! All the things you really feel like doing whenheavily pregnant hey!? Have you got a pregnancy yoga DVD? You could do that think they have bits that will help

DeidreBarlow · 22/12/2010 06:47

vag Standing in snow is the least you can do considering how worried we wereXmas Grin
