sounds like the had a feed/sleep association so everytime she wakes in the night she wants to nurse back to sleep. my three eldest boys were like that, i never could get harsh and they grew out of it, eventually!

i put merryn down in bed for a nap this morning and she dozed off on her own! no dummy anything, she woke after 45mins and i resettled her and she has slept another 45mins and is making noise now so i went up but she keeps sort of shouting out in her sleep, not crying but moaning and shouting ifykwim and her eyes are still sleepy eyes so i am leaving her a bit to see if she resettles or not. if not i will try her with dummy or just get her up, its so hard to tell if she has had enough sleep!

gah its a learnign process i think with all of them adn its so changeable at this stage anyway!

shouting now getting louder so am going ot go and cuddle madame!

4madboys · 08/02/2011 11:27

oh actually as i got up the stairs the shouting stopped, peeked in and she was dozing off again, she is definitely trying to stay asleep and if i do anything to help it seems to wake her up more?! all quiet again now so i shall see, it feels odd leaving her to sleep after feeding the boys to sleep but it seems to be what she needs, or at least today it is!

JFly · 08/02/2011 11:51

Hi ladies! I've lurked a bit here and there, but haven't been able to keep up with the thread.

All this talk of sleep and weaning - yikes! DS2 is just 10 weeks today and I still feel like he's a newborn. Maybe I'm wishing he were, since I know he's my last.

We had such a slow recovery after my crash section. And were you all sick over Christmas? I had a couple chest infections and thrush, DS1 had a UTI and chicken pox, then we all (apart from DS2) got the flu. It was lots of fun.

So it's only been the last 2-3 weeks that I've been feeling normal and well again. We're finally out and about a bit more, and I passed my driving test last week so I'm FREE! Walking is great but I really like to drive when I can.

DS2 still feeds very frequently, around every 2 hours in the day, apart from his mammoth 4 hour lunchtime nap. Then about 3 hours at night.

Poor monkey has his first jabs tomorrow. Delayed for various reasons. Not looking forward to it.

Hope everyone else doing well.

4madboys · 08/02/2011 12:08

oh jfly, you were another one ill at xmas :( my boys were all ill as well, we didnt bother with a christmas dinner or anything as the boys were so poorly, flu, tonsilitis and a sickness and diahrea bug!

anyway i just came back to say that little madame has shouted out every now and then, but is still asleep!! I put her down at 9:30 this is amazing, she will probably never do it again, lol.

and jfly, dd is just 9wks and in some ways i feel like she is just a little baby, but she is veyr long and already very alert and awake etc so she seems older and i have had lots of comments to that effect. but i am like you, she is my last and so i want her to stay a little baby!

and CONGRATULATION ON PASSING YOUR DRIVING TEST Grin that is fabulous, esp with a new baby! most impressed!

Rinnyx · 08/02/2011 12:09

Thanks for the info on teething ladies and glad I am not alone, I have calpol at the ready and a teether in the fridge.
Feel sorry for him as he has his 2nd jabs tomorrow also.

Hope everyone is doing well and the sun is shining where you are, lovely and sunny here in old Norwich tho Isaac is sleeping, typical Grin

Rinnyx · 08/02/2011 12:12

Oh I missed it but congrats on your driving test JFly
I am finally having lessons again starting next week tho with a new instructor, I am still trying to get my test money and 2 hours back off my old instructor Hmm

b00kw0rm · 08/02/2011 13:20

Congrats to Jfly on passing your driving test... I've got mine coming up in 2 weeks, but have hardly had any practice, so am not exactly brimming with confidence! Good luck to you too rinny when you get a new test dae through.
James (14w now) still feeds a lot during the day, but more like 4 hours overnight and has been known to sleep as much as 6-7 hours when it suits him (ie. about once every 2 weeks Hmm ) He's another one who settles to sleep better when he's just left alone- the complete opposite of DD who LOVES her dummy and cuddles. Guess as 4madboys says they're just all different!

smokeybacon · 08/02/2011 13:37

Teething????

Weaning?????

WTF? Aren't they all still newborns? Oh god, they're not are they? Where has the last 12 weeks gone? Its going so fast I can't keep up. Sad I want my babies to stay babies and I want DS2 so stay 20 months FOREVER.

Sorry I've been AWOL again for the last two weeks. Its hard finding the time and when I do get on I get distracted (have you seen the lady in America thread who is about to have her baby today after her waters went at 28 weeks? Am GRIPPED).

DTs are doing really well. Nights are getting better as they are getting close to going 6 hours at night. Two nights ago Freddie went from 10.30pm to 5am.

Anyway, I am not doing so well today. Heard last night that my DB has been diagnosed with cancer. He has a growth in his lower abdomen and a biopsy on Monday revealed that parts were cancerous. So he will be starting chemo soon and then an op to remove. He is in Canada.Apparantly, he has the one that if you have c, this is the one to have as it is treatable. Similar to what Lance Armstrong had I understand. I have never known anyone close to me have c before ( i can barely even say the word let alone type it) so am so scared. I just want to get on a plane so I can support him. Its so hard for us here that he is so far away, so imagine he is finding it even harder. We will hopefully know a bit more later on today about treatment and time scales as I think my mum wants to go out to him. So a very Sad time here at the mo.

Lainey1981 · 08/02/2011 14:06

hmm we are only looking to rent at the mo, will be a couple of years before can afford to buy. There are loads of 2 bed flats in blocks which are lovely if you don't have a baby and they are on wrong side kf town. we will find somewhere just always rented in London where there has been so much to choose from!

Lainey1981 · 08/02/2011 14:12

Sorry posted before reading smokeg sorry to hear about your brother. Must be hard for you when he is so far away. Good news that it is a treatable form. Will be thinking of you x

Lainey1981 · 08/02/2011 14:13

Gah i promise i am not totally illiterate, just clearly can't type and can't be bothered to preview

umf · 08/02/2011 20:17

oh, smokey, how worrying! hope the news today is encouraging.

bunnygirl80 · 08/02/2011 23:02

smokey sorry to hear about your DB. Hope you get some encouraging news soon

Jfly congrats on passing your driving test

hmm we're having similar sleep issues at the moment - fed Will at 1, 3 and 6 last night. He easily goes 4-5 hours in the day so I'm 100% convinced this is suck to sleep association and not hunger. He's been worse since he moved from his basket to his cot at the weekend (was only waking once to feed). Am hoping once he's used to his cot his sleep will improve.

Strangely, he settles for daytime naps without feeding/dummy sucking to sleep, it's only at night he wants to suck Hmm

hmmSleep · 09/02/2011 09:22

So sorry to hear about your brother smokey, must be a very worrying time.

Finally gave in and fed Lottie a bottle of formula before bed last night in the hope she'd sleep a bit longer . . . nope, no difference whatsoever. She had 5oz bottle then still grizzled to be breastfed as well then still woke up 3 times in the night. It is decided, she is a monkey!

4madboys · 09/02/2011 11:25

smokey hope you get positive news xxx

and sorry for those having sleep issues, i shant talk about merryns sleep.

but i took her to clinic today, 13lb 4oz!! and she is 62cm long, so on the 91st percentile for her length! i stupidly assumed that with her being a girl, she would be little like me, but nope if she carries on on the same line she will be 5 foot 7inches when she is an adult, so all of my kids are going to be taller than me Hmm

BorisTheBold · 09/02/2011 12:28

Smokey sorry to hear about your brother and hello to everyone else too!

Like 4mad, I shall keep schtum about Astrid's sleeping habits, expect to mention that they are currently surpassing dd1 and dd2s (4 & 6) grrr....

Everything's pretty good here, A is still combination feeding however I will admit she's having more formula than BM now. Haven't had her weighed in ages, I was going to take her today, but she's got a horrible cold (had it for a week or so) and is coughing up green phlegm every so often. GP told me, over the phone that it's not a chest infection Hmm. Will be giving it another few days to improve before calling again.

Apart from that, she's still a really contented baby - which I love Grin - and is pretty much bomb proof, thanks to the antics of dd2 who is a mini-Tazmanian devil. I think she's going to be tall like my other two as she's starting to look a bit snug in 3-6 month sleepsuits at 12 weeks - although that may be more to do with my inability to care about correct laundry procedures!

On the home front, it's now 15 weeks until the wedding day and everything is almost, nearly, just about organised. I'm procrastinating at the moment as I need to look through everything and work out what I still need to pay and confirm. I started going to the gym a few weeks ago, i think the gyn wifie was surprised at my level of fitness when we were doing the induction though. She was shocked at a bodger like me being able to do the various exercises (admittedly, so was I Grin).

4madboys · 09/02/2011 13:02

boris, merryn is also nearly out of 3-6mth babygrows and she is only 9wks!!

good luck with the wedding preparations, i hope we will get to see pics.

and Astrid was a possibility for dd, she was very nearly an astrid! its a lovely name :)

Mibby · 09/02/2011 18:55

Just a quick note; I got referred to as 'Annabel's mum' today, first time, felt very odd :)

Wallace · 10/02/2011 20:51

one ay i'll catch up :)

Fenouille · 11/02/2011 12:14

Hi everyone!

Smokey I'm sorry top hear the bad news about your brother, it's particularly tough with him being so far away. Do you Skype? It might help to be able to see him live, rather than just hear his voice? I hope his treatment goes well in any case.

Congrats on the driving test jfly and good luck for those imminently taking one.

We're currently at my parent's. Norry did ever so well with the journey (first time on a boat!) but he's been a bit disturbed at night. The GP's are really enjoying seeing him though, even with a 4am screaming fit!

I'm enjoying some good British grub too - fish and chips tonight, yum :)

hmmSleep · 11/02/2011 15:20

Yes, congrats jfly!

Here's a recent photo of Lottie to show what a little fatty she's become. Her brother and sister never really got that squidgy fat roly baby look so it's a bit of a novelty, can't stop squeezing her squishy little thighs!

And now I can't stop thinking about fish and chips fenouille, enjoy!

Lainey1981 · 11/02/2011 17:28

Hi everyone

borris hope wedding preparation is going well. The wedding dress must be a great incentive to go the gym.
I have watched am doing the 30 day shred Hmm dp has got really into it. Must make more of an effort. Watching it isn't going to hel me lose the weight i needed to before getting pg.

mibby how lovely, makes you suddenly realise that are a mum
4 mad makes you realise how all babies are proportioned differently as Finn weighs a bit more than Merry and is also v long but still in 0-3 but am guessing onky for a week or 2 more

fen v pleased you made it over to your parents, must be lovely for Norry to be fussed over.

hmm lottie is one gorgeous little girl. Stunning hair too. Finn is currently bald bar comedy tuft at back of head. Might have to invest in some more hats

Not much progress on house hunt, which has now been downgraded to flat hunt as there are loads of those and no houses. Viewing a few tomorrow so fingers crossed,

Redundancy confirmed, will be officially unemoloyed as of 7 march

Got to go someone seems to want my attention Hmm

4madboys · 11/02/2011 22:36

oh lainey it sounds like a hard time, house/flat hunting and losing your job, hope something comes up for you.

poor merryn has a horrible cold and cough, she is soo phlegmy and snotty its awful and she sounds like she has a sore throat :( she is however being remarkably chipper about it, struggling with her feeding a bit but still smiley and sleeping fairly well!

i meant to say to those with babies bfeeding loads at nigth still, i remember that my eldest three boys were all like that, they would go a long time in the day without feeding, mainly because they were nosy and there was too much to look at! and then they made up for it at night, apparently its very common in bfed babies and quite normal for them to take the bulk of their milk in the night, not good for mummies tho. but it is good for your milk supply as it affects your hormones and your milk production more if they feed at night. so whilst its exhausting it is normal and good in terms of milk production, i will say that they do grow out of it, but with my boys it took a while, i feel for you all xxx

is anyone else finding the tiredness and business of family life is leading to arguments? dp and i are normally fine and we are used to the whole small baby thing now on no 5, but just this last week, he is tired and grumpy, i am tired and annoyed by his grumpiness, the car needs money spent on it, there is always stuff to do around the house, there is always a child to take to a music lesson, sports club, playdate etc etc and it just all gets a bit much and then we bicker, well we dont bicker, he does the silent treatment and i inwardly seethe at him. oh so grown up Blush and i know its just because we are so tired and so busy and its a phase that pases, but god he is being annoying Hmm

bunnygirl80 · 12/02/2011 04:39

Have just spotted the Nov 2011 TTC thread......it does not feel like a whole year since I was obssessing about cycle days and SWI Shock

Will's sleep is still rubbish, but did manage to resettle with a dummy last night so at least I'm now sure he's not hungry. Just need to encourage him to resettle without my help now, which I'm hoping won't take too long seeing as he was doing it until 2 weeks ago

Fenouille · 12/02/2011 18:53

hmm Lottie is just gorgeous, what a head of hair! Norry is channelling the football hooligan look Grin

... OK, I started writing this message at lunchtime. It was going to be full of cheerful news about how yummy the fish and chips were last night, how delicious Christmas dinner was today, how much he's enjoying being spoilt by his GPs, etc. Since then he's not slept apart from 5 minutes here and there. Its been like 10 hours. He's been wailing for a lot of it but doesn't seem distressed apart from being tired. Even taking him out for walks didn't get him dropping off particularly. It's been extremely wearing and we're all at the end of our tethers. DH has ben amazing. I'm on my last legs. Norry looks like he has match sticks holding his eyes open. How can we make him sleep??
