today i went to mn meet and met the lovely rhinny! her son is gorgeous, so chubby and lovely Grin

Fenouille · 04/02/2011 17:47

bunny introduction to your next-door neighbour sounds like a very good idea. We don't have a pool either but luckily have lots of friends who do, yay!

Can I ask a quick question please? We're off to the UK this weekend and I was saying to Mum that I'd try to organise dinner at a pub with my BFF so she could meet Norry. Mum said she doesn't think babies are allowed in pubs. I thought you could take children in if they serve food, but not into the bar area. Am I right or are there restrictions of where children can go in the UK that in not aware of? Hmm

Mibby · 04/02/2011 18:46

As far as I know small babies are exempt from the no under 18's rule and are ok in the restaurant part of the pub in the evening. We've taken Annabel out to a restaurant/ bar without any trouble

Fenouille · 04/02/2011 18:56

Does that mean no more pub lunches? Or is it only an evening thing? :( I get the chance for good pub grub so infrequently I think I'll cry if I won't be able to have any for the next 18 years.

Mibby · 04/02/2011 19:01

I think lunchtimes are ok too, I've seen plenty of small people around in the day time and most places do kids meals so they must let kids in to eat them

Fenouille · 04/02/2011 19:05

OK, I've googled (should've done that to start with). For those interested:
Children in Pubs 1 and Children in Pubs 2. Phew. Now all I need is a [beer] emoticon Grin

Fenouille · 04/02/2011 19:17

Thanks Mibby , you can tell how long it's been since I was last in a pub Blush Not being particularly interested in children I couldn't remember if I'd ever seen any in one or not. Too busy enjoying my [beer] Wine

In other news, swaddling didn't really help Norry's night crises but putting a fleece for him to lie on in his Amby seems to have had a partial effect. He doesn't seem to have liked the coldness under his head. Oops

Mibby · 04/02/2011 23:42

Oooh a Wine Didnt know we'd got one of those :)

mumcha · 05/02/2011 16:06

Cant remember who asked about early weaning but i wont be waiting till 6mths .The rest of my boys where fed some pureed food at 3mths and i know thats very early but they all needed fed.

4madboys · 06/02/2011 20:55

re pubs, it depends on the pub i think, most are fine, we went to a pub this saturday with all four boys and baby merryn, it was lovely, had great food and all children behaved, merryn fed/slept and had cuddles and was fine :)

all good here, merryn is sleeping much better, goes from between 8-9pm through till 3-4am and then through till morning Grin during the day she goes four hours ish between feeds, but her daytime sleep can be a pita, like someone else said earlier we are in and out so much with school runs, toddlers groups, kids after school activities etc its hard for her to get a big nap in, but she will sleep in the sling (i use a moby wrap) and sometimes in the pram, which is where she is at the moment, normally she is a pita in the evenings, 'witching time' until i get her in bed, this evening i put her in the pram whilst we ate dinner and after rocking her a bit she went to sleep and has stayed asleep, she has woken but re settled herself! so am leaving her there till 9ish or a bit later when i shall take her up to bed, feed her and put her down.

i have no idea how much she weights but merryn is very long, filling 3-6mth clothes lenght wise and in 6-12mth socks and they fit her just right! she has some fat rolls on her thights but isnt particularly chubby, not like the boys were but she seems happy and content and is sleeping well. plus she LOVES her big brothers she is soo happy watching them playing and they get the BIGGEST smiles Grin

hope everyone is managing to get enough sleep! xxx

Jenni363 · 07/02/2011 08:16

... sleep... aahh I vaguely remember.. Grin.

Some nights Freya sleeps ok, waking twice a night.. Last night she was up 12, 1.30, 3 and from about 6.30... She seemed to be really hungry for some reason and each time had a good feed. Luckily she will settle back to sleep easily..

Wonder when she will start sleeping through.. Or even waking up just once.. DP would be keen on giving her formula before bedtime but I'm not so keen on this, at least yet. (BF only at the moment).

But then again she goes to bed so early, 7pm every night so 2-3 feeds in 12 hours is not too bad I suppose..

Re: Pubs we go almost every weekend.. Grin and it totally depends on a pub.. Most are very child friendly - but at Christmas eve we got kicked out from a pub that had "no children policy". Was slightly pissed off as I was just having a quick one drink with a friend - well we weren't even drinking alcohol as she's pregnant and I'm BF..

Jenni363 · 07/02/2011 08:20

Comtessa I finally managed to go to the gym yesterday! Took it easy as its been a while since I've been as in late pregnancy I only went swimming.

Shocking how unfit I am - 20 min bike and 10 min crosstrainer and some weights.. Knackered!

But I'm getting married in July and my dress.. does not fit.. not even close!

umf · 07/02/2011 13:18

Hey ladies, glad things pretty well with everyone. DH working something more like normal hours now, so suddenly I have a calm day and time to post.

comtessa cardi and jenni have started postnatal exercise class at gym. My starting level is a veeeeery long way below vasaloppet, tho. But still, was thrilled when cycled the other day to realise what amazing cardiovascular performance all that extra heart capacity and blood gives you! I haven't gone that fast up hills since was a teenager. Shame it presumably wears off.

Weaning: I'm almost certainly going to start some solids at 4 months this time. Waited to 5.5 months with DS1, which I felt was a mistake. I suppose I should look more properly at the evidence, but my impression is that the support for delaying is weakening. IME from watching friends' babies, they can be ready anywhere from 4-8 months. DS1 went straight on to 2 and then 3 meals a day at 5.5 months, and should have been eating earlier, whereas I've seen others who aren't really interested until well into the 2nd half of the first year.

Rocky (10 weeks now) is bf except that at the moment he's getting a bedtime bottle of formula cos I was going nuts with the evening cluster feeding. He's so enormous, I guess he needs a lot of milk. He also gets a bottle if I need to go to physio or haircut etc.

And from 12 weeks he can go to the gym creche, so I'll send him there with a bottle. This time I'm giving much higher priority to my own health and sanity than to ebf!

Rinnyx · 07/02/2011 15:43

Hello all stranger here! :)

After updating my journal and being on FB I seem to run out of time for MN :( must make more effort Blush

Anywho Isaac is 3 months now and off for his 2nd lot of jabs Wednesday poor little man.
Question: Has anyone elses LO started teething?
Its just Isaac was really crabby last night (not like him) the past week he has been eating his hands, dribbling like mad and sometimes pulling his ears.
I only ask cause DD was 6 months and we didnt even know till we saw she had already cut her first tooth.

Anyway hope everyone and their family are doing well x

Just to finish, my little man today :)

No time to read now but bookmarking before I lose thread again. Hope everyone is well!

Mibby · 07/02/2011 17:08

Rinny we've got teething here too, much the same symptoms, lots of dribble and finger chewing. I find a 1/2 dose of Calpol takes the edge off but Im hoping the teeth (we can see 2) turn up soon

comtessa · 07/02/2011 18:34

What a cutie Rinnyx! You look really well and happy too. I have a feeling Anya might be teething too, she's only just two months but I guess teeth can come at any time and she's definitely got the symptoms.
Thanks for the Calpol advice Mibby, I might try that.
Do either of you find that teething makes them less hungry or less able to concentrate on feeding? Anya's been feeding as regularly but taking less at each feed, both breast and bottle. She seems okay, only very slight temperature and a bit unsettled but otherwise happy, smiley and sleeping well still.

Mibby · 07/02/2011 18:42

Comtessa she feeds ok generally but wont feed properly if the 'teeth' are hurting at the time of the feed.

Jenni363 · 08/02/2011 06:38

Wonder if Freya could be teething too...? She's only 11 weeks though.. But has been drooling more than usual, sucking on her hands, and she wont feed properly. Sometimes she'll only feed for 5 minutes and then refuses to take the breast. We've been up all night again, feeding 3 times between midnight and 5 am.. And now been up with her from before 6 am as she just would not go back to sleep. So tired!

Giving her that bottle of formula before bedtime is looking more and more attractive right now. It just feels like such a big deal as "one is supposed to solely BF for the first 6 months"..? But if it carries like this I'll soon be too tired to concentrate on anything during the day Sad

Rinnyx Isaac is such a cutie!

Lainey1981 · 08/02/2011 09:23

Hmmm think Finn could be another one possibly teething. Has been dribbling loads in last few days and nkt taking his feeds properly like it hurts to have the bottle in his mouth, and chews on the teat. Yesterday he probably ate half what he usually does. Think i can feel something on his upper gum, but not sure

On the plus side he has slept through 3 times now from around 8.30-5.30 so as a result is down to 5 or 6 feeds instead of 7.

Trip to Colchester house hunting was less than productive. There are hardly any suitable properties on the market and even less in our preferred area. The ones we saw were horrible. Feel v disheartened and slightly concerned we will be homeless come the 5 March Sad

4madboys · 08/02/2011 10:13

re teething the madboys all had first teeth at around 3mths! so its highly likely that it could be that, i have been wondering if merryn is starting teething as she is very dribbly and trying to chew her hands and will chew on the bottle and a dummy rather than suck it. i have always used nelsons teething powder and an amber teething necklace to help with teething, plus calpol if necessary.

and was it sarah? who was on about sleeping routines etc and her four all sleeping through? i was going to say i think its just luck! with my first three they all bfed to sleep and co-slept etc and slept in sling/pram during the day but ds4 was a different kettle of fish all together, he developed a routine himself and wanted to be put down and left alone to go to sleep! it looks like dd is more like him as well as yesterday and so far today i have put her down when tired, awake but swaddled and in carrycot/bed and she has doezed off on her own, whereas in the sling, or her carseat/bouncy chair or being cuddled, she keeps almost dropping off but doesnt settle properly, like it overstimulates her?

they really are all different and what works for one may not work for another as i have learnt and i think some babies are just much better sleepers than others, same as adults!

hope you get a house sorted lainey xxx

hmmSleep · 08/02/2011 10:55

jenni you could have written my post for me! Still getting very little sleep, and Lottie is 4 months old today Shock. She was up feeding 11.30, 2.30, 4.00 then up at 6 last night. I'm sat looking at the tip that is my house but just don't have the energy to get up and tidy. Tried Fenouille's tip of trying to settle her without a feed but she wasn't having any of it. I am a bit worried it's more habit than hunger though as she can go 4 hrs during the day between feeds. I keep hoping the introduction of solids in the not so distant future will make a difference, if not I might have to get tough!

Sorry the house hunting isn't going well Lainey must be very stressful, have you considered renting for a while whilst you continue your search?

Isaac is gorgeous Rinnyx
