New halloween inspired thread (in honour of this time of year) to talk about our little jekyll & hydes [hgrin]

Is anyone going to be taking their little ones trick or treating this year? We'll be at MIL's for Halloween and she's already told me she has both Danny and DS1 costumes -so it appears that decision has been made for us Grin

Nope but tomorrow is MoS's little H and Questionkid's little one's birthday so happy birthday in advance to the little birthday boys for tomorrow - hope H is fully recovered for his birthday and that both he and Alexander have great days!

happy birthday Harrison & Alexander Grin wow if we all lived close imagine how many parties this would all be Shock

MrsY · 08/02/2011 09:12

Hi all!

I love that list - reminds me of all the excitment from two years ago - and all the gorgeous names chosen.

Did we ever do awards for best/worst story smallest/biggest baby etc?

Happy Birthday to Harrison (hope he's better now MOS) and Alex. Have fabby days boys.

Will try and do personals later if M naps today. And also see if I can find the final list - was Spotty last to pop? She was about March 5th wasn't she?

SweetTalkinWoman · 08/02/2011 11:10

Hello Ladies! As usual I?ve been very poor at posting Blush. How is everyone doing? Hope all the ?babies? are having happy birthdays Grin. It?s reminded me just how many boys there were!

It?s not Sam?s until the 22nd, so I?ve got a bit of time to work out how I?m going to make a Pingu cake Shock! If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, they would be much appreciated!

Not doing too badly here, though having a bit of a tough time with DD. She?s settled into her specialist pre-school class very well, but seems to be falling apart at home. I understand it?s quite common for the little ones to channel all their concentration etc into school, then let go when it?s finished. Anyway, lots of tantrums and toileting accidents, and other behavioural stuff make for an interesting time! Got a meeting in a week to discuss progress and school options etc.

Poor Sam gets a bit sidelined sometimes but is such a lovely little thing and great fun to be with. To think I didn?t like him very much when he was born Blush!

Must catch up with the thread properly, but just never seem to have any time to myself! My days are spent taxiing between two different nurseries and work (I have to get into the car 9 x a day!!!) or doing housework, laminating pictures, etc. I am seriously looking into giving up my current job and getting work for a few evenings a week, plus applying for Disability Living Allowance and Carers? Allowance.

Very sad day today ? got the funeral of our colleague, the boss?s wife, who died of ovarian cancer a week or so ago. It was a horrible illness and she was riddled with cancer by the end. A lovely sunny day though and hopefully it?ll be a bit of a celebration too.

Must dash now ? I have to take a ridiculously early lunch break so I can pick O up from preschool and take her off the the nursery for the rest of the day?.

Take care everyone!

mumoverseas · 08/02/2011 12:10

hello all and happy birthday to H's 'birthday twin' Alex Grin

DH went into work a little later today (7.45am instead of 6.15am!) so we gave H his little red motorbike very early and he loved it. I'd got him a Thomas the Tank birthday card and he loved that and kept saying 'too too tain' (choo choo train!)

He is much better today thank god. Had a quick visit with the doctor who was pleased with his progress and said just one more day of steriods. His proper party is friday but we are going out for tea (restaurant on compound) later and have made him a blue car cake. was supposed to be a 'cool cruiser' but its looking like a stock car racing car - after its done a few races Sad

A bit rushed today as two signing classes this morning, one later from 4.15pm to 5pm then quick dinner (and cake!) then my counselling course at 6.30pm. Feel a bit guilty really going out on his birthday but I guess he doesn't know and it can't be helped.
He just had a nap for about an hour and I nearly got to finish his cake. Just need to bung a few smarties on it and it should look ok.

STW sorry you are having such a hard time at the moment and hope you make the right decision for you and your family ref work etc.

Right, off to try to put H down (cuddling on lap) and finish cake.

SummerRain · 08/02/2011 13:41

happy birthday H Grin and Alexander if QK is still about Grin

Thankfully A's lack of speech means he wasn't able to request a cake (I have no doubt he would have demanded a mickey mouse cake if he was able!) so I'll be making a nice simple lemon sponge for him later.

He had group therapy with his SALT earlier which was interesting, tonnes of exercises for us to do. Bit depressing though as the other boys are unintelligible but do speak and make sounds so there's a huge gap between their abilities and A's

STW, sorry to hear home life is bearing the brunt of dd's adjustment to her new school.

dinkystinky · 08/02/2011 14:51

Glad H is better in time for his birthday MoS - and that he's having a fab day so far.

STW - sorry you're having such a rough time with O : hope things pick up soon. Sending you hugs in the meantime. Remember- this too will pass. Re Pingu cake - can you just do a round cake and ice it to look like Pingu's face, another round cake for his tummy and do slices off a third round cake for his wings and feet? Otherwise just do a normal cake and make a marzipan pingu figure to go on top, maybe next to a marzipan igloo?

SR - have the other boys been going longer than A? If so, looking on the positive, try to see it as the leaps he'll be making in the non-too distant future. Lemon sponge sounds lovely - lucky A!

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 09/02/2011 07:26

SWT sorry you are having a tough time at home.
Glad that O is getting on well at her new nursery though.
I assume they have quite a stronmg structure there? It might be worth making an appointment to see the room leader to discuss her routines and what techniques they use in terms of language and behaviours.
Yoiu may be able to make slight adjudtnmebts at home so you are all reading from the same song sheet iyswim.
For example, we have a term we use to the children wehn they hit or push. We say "kind hands" all sing-songy so they don't actually get a reaction from anyone for negative behaviour. We find that the chiuldren who are treated very differently at home than at school are the ones who struggle most.
I'm not saying O has behaviour issues but maybe if they have key phrases, routines and handling plans, it may be worth trying to mimick those duriong this adjustment peeiod?

SilveryMoon · 09/02/2011 07:29

Also, FWIW, I did it with Jacob's teacher. I went to see her to discuss their discipline procedures, their reward and encouragement system (not a great one) key phrases the teachers may use to the kids and anything else I could incorporate at home to give Jacob a better sense of consistancy.

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 08:45

Happy birthday to Aaron (Danny's spiritual twin Wink) - hope he has a fab day and the lemon sponge cake goes down a storm!

OP posts:
SummerRain · 09/02/2011 10:27

Thanks dinky.... the older two have school so we're saving cake and presents til they get home. Other than balloons and a couple of cards he's not really started on birthday stuff yet. He's gone out to the shops with dp now so I can do the cake and wrap presents (fecking PTA meeting last night which i only found out about an hour before so was way too knackered by the time i got home at 10.45 to start baking!)

Can't believe my baby is two though Shock

Calico1 · 09/02/2011 10:52

Happy birthday Aaron - hope you have a great day!

I can't believe it's been two years since they were all snuggly newborns.

STW sorry you are having a tough time with O. Hope things settle down a bit for you. Pingu cake sounds like a challenge!

Lilian has requested a 'purple cake' Hmm but I think she gets her colours mixed up so not sure what she really wants....
She has developed an exceptional temper - her most used words at the moment are 'go away mummy'.

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 11:13

I know I cant believe they're all turning 2 already.

We have a new Fab Feb baby in the dinky household - SIL gave birth to a little girl on 5 Feb (ella, 6lb 5oz). She just got to take her baby home yesterday as she got jaundice. Good thing they're over in NY and we're in London or I'd be getting v broody round about now...

OP posts:
SummerRain · 09/02/2011 12:46

congrats to your sister dinky.... how lovely Grin

oooggs · 09/02/2011 14:25

congrats to your SIL dinky Smile

Happy birthday Aaron

SummerRain · 09/02/2011 15:11

thanks oogs... he's shattered poor lamb and just keeps saying 'woah, woah, woah!' (no, no, no) when offered cake Grin he's having a bf now and i think he's dozing off. Poor lad hasn't even gotten his big present yet, lol.

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 15:15

Save it a day SummerRain and he can share his birthday present opening with Danny Wink

Will doubtless amuse you to hear that Danny has mastered saying no, no, no to everything but has yet to say yes more than twice Grin

OP posts:
SummerRain · 09/02/2011 15:25

we very occasionally get 'yah' for yes but pretty much everything is 'woah. woah, woah'.... he always says it three times too, never just once Grin so that's a grand total of 3 words... 2 of them learned since he started learning sign language funnily enough.

If it's too late when he wakes he'll get it tomorrow. I'm not overly pushed as i doubt a balance bike will be an immedietly loved toy, like all ride on toys it'll be something he warms to gradually i'd imagine. He's delighted with the various bubble blowing sets i picked up in tesco for next to nothing and his toy owl is riding around in a buggy i got there for 5 euors so as usual the cheap and cheerful stuff wins the day Wink

just to warn you (and anyone else with slow/non talkers) don't read the last line of the development emial when you get it tomorrow.... I knew it was coming and i still winced at how many words is standard at this age!

what's Danny getting tomorrow?

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 16:26

Danny is getting some fridge magnets (the boy is OBSESSED with the ones we have at the moment - the new ones he's getting are food shaped ones), one of those hamster thingies and a ladybird trunki. I'm going to make yoghurt muffins tonight in honour of his birthday - the shop bought cake will be for the party on sunday.

Lol a "yah" - its more than we get with Danny Grin We just get assent via his eyebrows Hmm

OP posts:
SummerRain · 09/02/2011 16:32

I must try and pick up some new fridge magnets soon, all three of ours are obsessed and the ones we have are knackered beyond belief.

I remember watching the trunki people on dragon's den Grin If he's like his doppelganger here he'll love it... A has a little bag with wheels for toddler group and drags it around the house collecting up bits and bobs to hide hoard in it Grin I wanted to get A a hamster but the tesco we went to yesterday was a different one than usual and the sods didn't have them... he'll just have to keep kidnapping the older dc's!

am [drool]ing at the thought of muffins.... may have to shift my arse and make some myself tomorrow!

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 16:50

We have some fridge magnet envelopes that you stick photos in - Danny is forever changing the photos in those pockets. Keeps him occupied for ages. Grin

Danny is v taken with DS1's trunki (cow design) so am hoping the Ladybird will be a hit too.

Will send you a virtual muffin tonight when I've made them

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 09/02/2011 18:32

Happy birthday Aaron.
Hope you've had a good day SR

SummerRain · 09/02/2011 20:08

We have (other than the older two coming in from school like bloody tyrants)

He loves his balance bike Grin He got so excited when he saw it and jumped right up on it... swung his leg over the back like a pro and all!

dinkystinky · 09/02/2011 21:19

Ahh lovely that the balance bike was such a hit!

OP posts:
TheHouseofMirth · 09/02/2011 21:37

Hi all! I hope Alex, Harrison, Aaron and all the others I've missed too have had very Happy Birthdays!

Tarran is very excited about his birthday though his cake requests are changing daily and so I am going to embark upon a large green field containing a tractor, sundry farm animals a train going through the field and Jess the Cat stuck up a tree being recued by Fireman Sam. It will not be as impressive as that sounds but luckily at 2 Mr T is easily pleased.

STW you could either make an igloo cake like this with a sponge made in a pyrex pudding bowl or a 2d Pingu ought to be pretty easy covered in ready roll icing and you could make his flippers from that too. Or just do a plain cake and cut pingu from ready to roll icing like the one on <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.the-cake-works.com/LR/photos/galleries/Children/photos/Childrens_Cakes_Darlington_008.jpg&imgrefurl=www.the-cake-works.com/LR/photos/galleries/Children/&usg=__BMeuBqW_JMHbc7uouHGZqKKpByY=&h=600&w=600&sz=108&hl=en&start=14&sig2=FEIDPPShXqCQ4J2Vn-UcGQ&zoom=1&itbs=1&tbnid=vEOzycvVGlPfDM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpingu%2Bcakes%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26tbs%3Disch:1%26prmd%3Divns&ei=jQdTTbPgK8-xhAeMorTiCA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this site. Did you know there's a really good cake supplies shop near you in Surbiton?
