Right dd in cot and crying has stopped (10 mins max - yay but doesn't mean anything

ds story read x 2 - he always manages to get two out of me!

teeth brushed

ds protest over and door self slammed which means he gives in

Strictly on

another wine poured Grin

Matt to win! I don't like Cher but she's growing on me though I think she'll do well. I really like Rebecca too and I like Mary

Strictly - I like Gavin to admire but he's almost a tosser

Can't stand Bruce F - Tool.

Flavia and thingy good though...

Ann doing high flying tonight!!! Shock can't wait

Rubena · 23/10/2010 19:22

aah just giving you a hard time Vag - I'm really Envy and it's admirable. You are super wife / Mum and your dh is up for MN hubby of the year I'd say.
That was my plan exactly too with the dining table.... we still haven't done that once - we do what you do currently.

Veggiemummy · 23/10/2010 19:26

Pubes two books is good. If once he understands counting when he is being naughty, or I should say presenting you with a challenging behaviour which needs to be addressed. Tell him if he doesn't stop by the time you count to 10 (3 if your feeling mean) you'll only read one book at bedtime. It's surprising how this threat somehow puts the fear of god into them. It still works with DS1. Also its a threat which is easy to carry out. Unlike taking away a trip to the park or something else which you may yourself want to do.

EffiePerine · 23/10/2010 19:32

Home after a day out in Essex (Brightlingsea, Fingeringhoe and Mersea), boys nearly in bed and we have a bot of genuine Essex Rose from the Mersea vineyard. Only one row and two children being carsick.

Rubena · 23/10/2010 20:03

I hear that Vag.
Right it all took a turn for the worse probably because I decided to stay upset and have a shower, ds started screaming "daaaaaady" and then woke dd buit I may have intervened in time....
I gave ds a stern talking to about waking his sister and he promptly went back to bed and not a peep since.
Had to pick dd up and had more burps out of her Shock obviously get it from her father, but she is now asleep (I think) Dinner still not sorted as dh still doesn't know if he's getting out of work. Think I will order anyway....
Oh lord dd again.... will leave her for a bit.

Rubena · 23/10/2010 20:04

Oh sounds nice Effie - apart from the car-sickness.

Right, TV.

Veggiemummy · 23/10/2010 21:10

You decided to stay upset Pubes?

Hope she settled again. Also you could never offend me I always find that sort of thing highly amusing.

I've found a couple more houses to look at, am I boring you all too much with these links though.

Oh pubes & Jam I looked up how to make cider on you tube, def no fun so ocado is better option. I think my next apple creation will be a dutch apple cake. DH & I quickly the discovering that the goodness of picking apples straight from the tree is somewhat lost when combined with large amounts of flour, butter & sugar and baked. Oh well it tastes good. I can't believe how easy apple crumble is to make though, albeit with a small human trying to steal my butter. I have to watch him, if he gets a hold of the block of butter he eats it like an apple.

Rubena · 23/10/2010 21:42

VAG! LOL! I meant 'decided to stay upstairs' Grin
Nah she didn't settle (until just now) and each time I went up she did a little spew when I put her upright. I think she just has a really hard time with wind in the evenings. I suppose only her getting older will fix that Confused
Vietnamese (me) / Chinese (dh)has been consumed YUM

Matt to win Jam!!! Genius.
Agreed Cher is skanky but she is a good singer - lots of people won't like her image though or her ridiculous cheap looking caked on eye makeup.

lady hope you and dd's enjoyed ITNG live. Did you see the Pinky Ponk or the Ninky Nonk? I'd have gone for the PP Grin

LadyThompson · 24/10/2010 01:25

Rubes, I hope you are fast asleep but we saw the NN actually - the time suited us better, but in any case, DD1 is intermittently frightened of the PP so not worth the risk Grin Not long back after a truly lovely but thoroughly exhausting day. I have so enjoyed reading today's posts just now. Yeah, Veg, come stay with me! As long as we have moved of course. Hope Spot is getting on ok and WG has a better night. More tomorrow. Night one and all.

sybilfaulty · 24/10/2010 11:19

Morning all. Covered in sick again today. Kids, not me, though. Am on 3rd lot of washing already. House smells of vom, mixed with lavender and Domestos. Nice. Hope you are having a better day.

DeidreBarlow · 24/10/2010 11:32

Oh sybs not a great start, hope its just a 24 hour thing.

DS up at silly o'clock. DD has gone to mum's after church to make Christmas cakes and DS is snuggled on my knee. I'm hoping he'll have a nap so then I can.

Loved Ann Widacombe on StrictlyGrin

Cher was even more awful last night than ever on X Factor. Seriously quit the rapping love its dreadful! Although I actually thought Katie the Weasel was rather good. But I will put my fist through th TV if I hear anone else mutter "This is who I really am, this is me" on that show!

Oh and I want apple crumble today thanks to veggie Grin

Rubena · 24/10/2010 11:45

Morning (just) how's your grandpa today Deids? I still think Cher has a good voice but I hate the rapping too. Wish she's just stand there and sing a ballad or something.
Katie was just OK for me.
Atleast they've banned the word "journey" my 2 least favourite expressions in the world are:

"it's been an incredible journey"

             and

"it's a blank canvas so we can put our own stamp on it"

They make my skin crawl.

Sorry about your night Sybs.

Glad you had a good day Lady, albeit tiring.

not an ideal night here, ds fine- up at 630 though, but dd wouldn't settle at all until she was moved from her cot to moses basket, then moved from moses basket to our bed (before we went to bed) then finally settled to sleep after 10pm feed (the 6pm rolled into the 10pm feed with constant unsettledness and wind) then dh's phone went off twice through the night as he was on-call

But in better news I'm down 3kg this morning (hadn't got on the scales in 3 weeks or so! So I'm quite pleased.

Results night today ladies...... Grin

DeidreBarlow · 24/10/2010 12:03

Thanks for asking Rubes. My grandad is fractionally better. My Nan on the other hand is quite literally a wreck. She has suffered terribly with stress and anxiety since her own cancer treatment. but with going to see Grandad every day and being on her own, well its making her ill.

Sorry about your disturbed night - is DH working today as well? My DH is at work, which means he's actually sat on his arse reading the paper waiting for something to happen!

Result on the weight lossSmile

I love Sunday night TV - results & Downton Abbey. My money's on Belle Amie to go

Rubena · 24/10/2010 12:14

Yeah I think you're right deids, Belle Amie or John I reckon - what was that all about with the little mini X rated strictly performance behind John singing!! Hmm
Sorry your Nan is having a hard time - I'm not surprised, she's been through a lot. Sending positive get well vibes from down here anyway. Glad Grandad is a bit better at least.
DH will be home about 1pm I hope. he had t go back in at 630am but I'm sure he'll not be sitting on arse. Although he'll probabably want to when he gets home, but he has to go and collect 2 x chest of drawers I bought on eBay for the kids Grin aah he made the time with the guy so at least I didn't spring it on him.

Rubena · 24/10/2010 13:02

Deids is your DH a Fireman?

DeidreBarlow · 24/10/2010 13:13

Ha ha no rubes he's a prison officer.

Rubena · 24/10/2010 13:50

Oh wow, how often would something happen? [Yikes] Bet he's got some interesting stories

DeidreBarlow · 24/10/2010 14:05

Not that often really, but when it does it can be a bit hairy! TBH it usually kicks off over silly things like the fact they ran out of custard at dinner or somethingGrin

DS asleep on my knee and I daren't move him

JamInMyWellies · 24/10/2010 15:19

So am sitting outsid eof that fab vintage place. We just bought our kitchen armchair. Grin

Cher us friction awful. I am liking Matt. And Rebecca amazing voice.

It is a good job we don't live near here there has been a fair amount of window shopping for house stuff.

DB your poor grandparents.

Veggiemummy · 24/10/2010 16:16

Afternoon ladies.

Loving all the strictly & factor talk. Makes me feel a little like I'm in the UK. I could watch strictly if I wanted to but I've never been into it. But I love the banter elicited because of it. I used to love listening to friends go on about it. No idea why.

Gosh I so feel for your nan. I've only worked in adults my first year out but in that year I saw many older spouses watch their partners go through pain and suffering and even death. Obviously watching parents lose their children, or watch their children in pain was always hard as a paeds nurse. But watching the love & fear on these older peoples faces as they stayed close to their DH or DW was really moving. I remember once having a bit of a fight with a doctor once (sorry Pubes & JJ) because she put IV lines in an old guys hands he'd had a severe stroke and was unlikely to survive the night but she insisted on the IV's as she felt she had to do something. As they were in his hands and he was unconscious we had to splint his hands. This sadly meant his wife couldn't even hold his hand. The doctor took on board what I was arguing but felt should couldn't not do anything and was nervous of resiting as he was quite difficult to get a vein on. I understood where she was coming from but to this day it still breaks my heart that the love of his life could hold his hand as he left her.

Sorry clearly it effected me more than I realised as I blurted all that out.

Anyhow just to bring the thread down even further I had a fight with a lady in IKEA today. I had just got the boys an ice cream each from that self serve machine thing when a women came back with her half eaten cone and topped up her cone. I told her that was really gross because the germs on her half licked cone would get onto the machine and surely she could pay 50c for a new cone. They have signs everywhere around the machines saying cones are a once serve only item. Those soft serve ice cream machines are a real breeding ground for bugs. Anyway as much as I thought it was truely foul I said my piece and stayed composed. Anyway she fully turned on me and came right up to my face held up her hand to me and said "what's your problem" really aggressively. I told her there was no need to be so aggressive, but the signs said only once and basically it was disgusting. She went a bit wild eyed and then stormed off & handed her ill gotten gains to her mother or some older women who she knows. Another women near me shook her head & tutted in disapproval so I felt at least justified. But unfortunately the exchange really upset DS1. He was really scared by her. So next time I think I'll hold my tongue.

As much as a MN tour of the UK sounds wonderful I'm thinking maybe a few days in Antwerp or even Paris might be nice. Id love to be able to wander around the Louvre, l'orangerie, and up & down the old Champs by myself.

Veggiemummy · 24/10/2010 16:21

Sorry that should have been IV access. And there was a could there that should have been a couldn't. My grammer is terrible. Sorry again to be a downer on the thread.

Veggiemummy · 24/10/2010 16:22

Oh on a happy note DS2 told me he loved me for the first time today. Well its more like "I la ooo" but it sounds delicious.

Avocadoes · 24/10/2010 17:03

Oooh Jam, I was on the High Rd today, we cld have run into each other! In fact I wandered into that shop yesterday to look at yr chair but couldn't find it. Was it on display? I fell in love with some low seated 1930's upholstered chairs and DH fell for a Victorian ballot box complete with black ball. We must stay away from there, it's too tempting. Are you pleased with your purchase?

Veg, that is gross abt the ice cream and good on you for challenging the lady. Did you challenge her in Dutch? If so I am mighty impressed.

Daisy, we have very different takes on Strictly and X-Factor! Lucky we aren't watching it together. I love Cher, or at least I like her because she is different. I'm bored of the same old mold of X Factor contestant & I think it takes courage to try something new. I quite like Katie too! And on Strictly I hate Ann Widdecombe. I don't understand why a nasty old right wing bigot becomes a national treasure because she frumps around a stage very conciously trying to be this year's John Sargaent. At least when he did it it was original. I should caveat all this by saying I didn't see either show last night as we were out with
friends. Maybe I am out of date...

We have had a lovely afternoon in Richmond Park collecting sticks to make into witches' broomsticks for Halloween. It was so sunny and we came across a herd of deer. DD1 was beside herself thinking this meant Father Christmas was near and DD2 just kept shouting "like goats!". Whenever we pointed out they weren't goats she shouted "like chickens!". Odd child.

Veggiemummy · 24/10/2010 17:24

Avo your DD2's shouting out random animals has definitely cheered me up from my mood. That's hilarious. I love how they want to get in to the conversation and be understood. Today when we were walking into IKEA, DS2 pointed at a guy walking just ahead of us and proudly announced that he was in fact a "man". I said that was right and he gave me the biggest grin.

Sorry Avo, I.guess I could have started off with "niet zo goed", but after that apart from filling in the articles in Dutch, gross, germs and disgusting, would have all been in my native tongue. Actually if I'd reverted to my native tongue (Australian English) I may have had a fight on my hands.

Rubena · 24/10/2010 17:28

gosh we very nearly went to Richmond Park this afternoon. I was going to suggest it to dh but we need to get a bike trailer first. DH is one of those cyclist who does the 3 lap challenge that all the cars get pissed off with. However I think he gets more pissed off with the cars.

I think the top 2 in the final will be Cher and Matt with Matt winning. lets face it he's very good, and young girls and gay guys vote
