Sorry don't know about the panting Dixiebell. Make a quick dash to tesco/ sainsburys and buy some more if you think your visitors will be bothered or depending on their arrival time there's always a radiator! Luke always goes longer between night feeds the more he feeds in the evening. It's nice to get more sleep but it's a trade off between that and getting to put ds1 to bed and to snuggle up with dh (although dh has been getting ds1 ready and then I read his story while feeding!) Luke starts earlier and finishes earlier though from 5.30-9 so getting dinner is a pain too!

Hello everyone, not posted for ages but have been reading through the thread to catch up. Sebastien had his hip ultrasound and foot check for ?clicky hip and left foot talipe (club foot) yesterday and everything is normal YAY. The talipe is positional only (not bone, just muscle and soft tissue) so it will correct itself in a few months.
Getting lots of smiles and giggly faces now. Makes it difficult to latch him if he's seen something he likes! Like my other nipple - twiddly is an understatement Shock.
Feeding is going well, getting nearly whole nights sleep. I feel very sorry (and a little bit guilty) for all of you who are having trouble at night, I expect I will get my share of it later on though.
Dixiebell I run out of gros every day. Seb is (i think) about 11lb now (born 7lb6) so he's on the cusp of newborn and 0-3 months - one is too small, the other ridiculously large, so am using about half a dozen sets round and round as they are still ok.
DH wanted us to go watch him racing today, but considering the weather I think I have a great excuse to say no way. Smile

6 weeks today.

Debs75 · 23/10/2010 16:28

We use gro-bags with lucy, tried them with dc3 and she loved them. So much easier then blankets and warmer for them when you put them back in the cots.
Lucy is in 0-3 baby-gros but can still fit in newborn vests and trousers and tops. She weighs 10lb so is just into 0-3 size by weight.

10 weeks today

mellymooks · 24/10/2010 14:42

Hello folks, it's so hard to keep up with this thread!! Flynn is also really colicky from 6-12pm most eves, going to try infacol this eve.

He is also huge!! Was 8lb7.5 born and 4 weeks on is now 12lbs!! Out of so many of his clothes and is in 3-6 month vests already, so many clothes have neither never fitted him or he's only worn once. He is so different from my DD.

Gro-bags are a brilliant invention! Staying with my lovely MIL this wk, then next week I will be on my own for the first time with 2 am scared! Those of you who are pros please tell me I will be ok!!

To add to the general mayhem my DD has decided this wk that she wants to potty train which is great but means twice the amount of washing and many accidents to deal with - guess it's easier now than in a few months when Flynn os on the move though!

beaditAli · 24/10/2010 17:41

HI all.... hope it's been a good weekend for everyone. Smile
I had a dash to Mothercare yesterday for tops and trousers as Jack is so long. No 0-3 sleep suits fit his leg length and he can't stretch his feet out properly. Problem now is that as he's so narrow all the tops and trousers I bought are way too baggy on him. The only answer is to chop the feet out of the sleep suits and pop hi in socks.
He's not even 5 weeks old yet! He is definitely going to be a tall fella.
HV comes on Wednesday so I can't wait to get him weighed. Have a feeling he must be nearing 12lbs.
Not sure if w e have colic yet or not? JAck is really fretful between around 9pm and 11.30pm but doesn't really cry. He won't settle and is very fidgety. Hmm

bananastew · 24/10/2010 19:48

Who was it that booked a foreign holiday for 6 weeks after their due date?? I oftens wonder how they got on!

Well, I had my 1st proper night out on the town last night. It was good but a bit strange. None of the girls I was out with have children & seeing as though my life is full of nappies, bottles & wind (Olly, not me Grin) I did feel a bit out of the loop. especially as they were all talking about how they were going to laze around all day today recovering!

Another fan of gro bags here. I also use one of the many hideous beautiful knitted cardigans my mil has done over the top for a bit of added warmth. especially on the arms!

Mellymooks you really will be fine. just stay calm, it doesn't matter if one has to cry for a few minutes while you sort the other out. I actually prefer being on my own with them both because I can do things my way at my own pace. How old is your eldest?

Oliver 7wks 5days

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2010 21:20

Wow that's impressive weight gain mellymooks!! As bananastew says you will be fine. You very quickly get used to what you have and learn to cope with it. As I had an hour wait at Dr.'s on Wednesday it put all the kids out of sync so I had one crying because she was tired, ds1 crying because he didn't feel well, Luke crying because I had to put him down and a parent at the door! Not my finest moment but it soon passed and I think I managed remarkably well.

My HV cancelled nearly 2 weeks ago due to illness beaditAli and hasn't called to reschedule as yet.

Friendships are always difficult when you have children and others don't but glad you had a good time bananastew. My very good friend who was a witness at our wedding is still a good friend but we have much less in common since I've had children and so we spend less time together. However my next door neighbour who has similar age children has now become my best friend and we are often popping to each others houses so I have also gained a very good friend who I can share most things with Grin

We went to Africa Alive! yesterday and although it was cold we didn't get wet and had a great time. Put Luke in the sling and he slept for the whole day apart from nappy changes and feeds. DS1 is feeling better now and just finishing off the anitbiotics, Luke's conjunctivitis has no visible signs and I'm just finishing off his drops too but dh is not well today and went to bed before the boys so I am up on my own, which is a bit strange! He is asthmatic and as it seems to be some kind of cold it's really affecting his breathing :(

6 weeks tomorrow

JodeyLea · 24/10/2010 22:25

Feeling miserable today! Have mastitis in my right boob!!! :0(

Also Harlyn has had milk spots or baby acne ( not sure which) over his cheeks for a good week and a half. I've heard fanning on breastmilk or yoghurt can help so thought I'd ask the experts before mentioning it to HV tomorrow.

He is also difficult to settle between 6 and 12. He was sleeping from 12 till 6:30 but the last two night he has been waking at 3 and again at 7 x

JodeyLea · 24/10/2010 22:30

Ooopps that meant to say dabbing not fanning (blaming predictive spelling on my phone) x

beaditAli · 25/10/2010 01:27

Yaaaaawn.... stupidly decided to stay awake until Jack woke up hungry. That was about 2 hours ago and im still here. Must learn to sleep again. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

beaditAli · 25/10/2010 02:44

2.44am. still here Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 25/10/2010 06:14

Hope you got to bed beaditAli !! Luke slept from 8.30 until 2.30 and is just up again now so not bad :)

Hope the mastitis goes soon JodeyLea. It is horrible but with antibiotics I felt better ver quickly! Try not to feel too miserable. Not sure about spots, ds1 had some but they were from thrush so as soon as that was treated they went.

comixminx · 25/10/2010 07:21

Poor little Aphra just howled like a lost soul right now - a combination of a cold that has bunged up her nose (though not interfering with feeding), a nappy change, and general outrage at the world! Luckily now that she is being fed she's pretty placid.

Hope you got some sleep in the end, beaditAli!

Round here they do an eight week baby check not a six week one, so we're due for that this week. And my DP's parents are visiting for a few days, from tomorrow. They're not staying with us - the house is a bit small for that - but I have no idea how it's going to go, as she is their first grandchild so there's no oat tern to follow...

those howls re horrible comix, they pierce straight to my heart :(
we re due for an eight week check and first vaccinations next week too. did you go for a six week postnatal check or are you getting that done this week too?

hope you got some sleep beadit

mastitis sounds horrible.......hope it gets better soon jodey

anyone know what to do about lopsided boobs????? my right boob is much smaller than left one and has much less milk Confused

one handed typing (bf and trying to have brekkie as well as read/post on mn :))

comixminx · 25/10/2010 12:00

Oh I just now see that I left an incomprehensible typo - oat tern = pattern! Damn autocorrect...

Yes, chickieno1, I had my six week check separately. As for vaccinations - there's a study happening here on whether it's possible to reduce the number of vaccinations while still keeping the same protection. They'll come and do the jabs here at home, will monitor her for 15 mins afterwards, and will do blood samples to check the level of protection actually achieved (and I'd necessary will top her up). So we're helping science and getting something out of it too!

My right boob is also smaller than my left, and has a bit less milk I think - it doesn't spurt out quite as much. You could try expressing from that one more, maybe? That might build up the supply in that one more.

OP posts:
bananastew · 25/10/2010 19:19

Jodey I've heard that breast milk is good for anything like that! It can't hurt to try it. Oliver had either really bad milk spots or baby acne. I asked my HV about it and her exact words were "its fine. its not meningitis" I never thought it was! I just left them & they went naturally after a couple of weeks.

We have a 6 week HV check then 8 week GP and jabs. Does anyone know about leg creases? A friend mentioned that the GP said that there was a potential problem with her ds feet but at the creases were...........then its generally fine. I just can't remember what the ............was! Should they be the same?

Has anyone seen the "maternal rush of love" thread? I think that was me. with ds1 i felt sick with love for him the second he was born. I'll admit now that I didn't have that with Olly. It worried me a bit but I'm pleased to report that its finally arrived. I want to cry just thinking about him & am worried now that there's something wrong with his feet & he'll have to have an operation or something!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/10/2010 20:32

I was terrified about not feeling the same about Luke bananastew but I was the same as with ds1 I loved him the moment I saw him. In fact I was so much happier after having him as I had a much better birth second time around. My mum had problems bonding with me as she was unable to care for me when I was first born and also with my brother as she really wanted another girl so was disappointed to have a boy so it was a real worry for me. Glad to hear you have got the feeling you want for him. Not really sure about the feet/leg crease question!

comixminx · 25/10/2010 21:14

banana, I've seen the "maternal rush of love" thread too - very good, isn't it? I feel like I'm getting nearer to the rush of love but not really there as yet - I'm still dealing with getting through the day, doing the right thing, and such. She is really lovely and cute as it stands, but when she can interact more, and preferably tell me what she wants instead of just crying, I'll be there!

OP posts:
mellymooks · 25/10/2010 22:10

Thanks banana and cinnamon I think that hopefully once I'm in it I won't have time to wonder if I'm going to screw up as I'll be too busy getting on with it all! My DD is 2 and 10 months and is a honey very helpful with Flynn, bringing me nappies etc

I just worry she will get left out, she's been my baby so long and we've been two peas in a pod, so close I worry how I will maintain that now I have to split my time.

Well we tried Infacol last night and it worked brilliantly but tonight we're back to screaming and colicky discomfort, poor little fella.

I too have very uneven boobs my left boob is much bigger, fuller and faster than my right, it was the same last time and I ended up quite lopsided looking once I had finished BF, will probably be even more pronounced this time Sad thank goodness there are lots of good bras on the market these days!!

4wks+5

Dixiebell · 26/10/2010 02:35

banana, was it hip dysplasia? The clicky hip thing? A symptom of that can be uneven leg creases I think. Arlo has been referred because of a clicky hip - think it's pretty common, they will investigate further to check it's not dislocated. GP would check at the 6 week appt too.

Arlo has started being sick a lot more after feeds. Yesterday he puked up loads right after a long feed. Assume this is nothing to worry about if he's otherwise happy. We are being weighed tomorrow anyway so I can check he's still gaining.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/10/2010 09:41

My left breast leaks a lot more than my right and I get a stronger let down in that side but I had never thought it might have more milk in it. My nipples are different to each other so I put it down to that as my breasts are the same size, unless Luke has just fed from one then it's significantly smaller!

Are you using something for colic Dixiebell? A lot of the things to bring up wind can bring up milk too. My ds1 was an incredibly sicky baby, I often felt he'd brought up half of hid feed but he still piled on the weight! Luke is a very pleasant change as he is rarely sick and when he is it's only a very small amount.

bellabelly · 26/10/2010 10:06

Had to take the girls to hospital yesterday for Lucy to have some scans done - all fine, so feeling much happier now. One scan was just routine becasue she was a breech baby so they check hips but the other was because of a little dimple at the base of her spine so needed to check for problems (spina bifida). When we got back to the carpark, I burst into tears - hadn't realised how stressed I've been feeling waiting for the appt, I had just been trying not to think too much about it. Anyway, seems like all is well. Smile Just need to organise their jabs and 8 week check now...

This is my first day being in sole charge of all 4 kids - mum has gone back home this morning. She and dad were a huge help for the last week BUT I am actually feeling glad to just be on my own now and not have to worry about anyone else. That probaby sounds bit ungrateful but you know what I mean?

sassy34264 · 26/10/2010 11:02

Morning. My right boob is bigger but I think it's because that's Jacob's boob and he feeds for longer than Isobel. Jacob is a massive puker! He has reflux, so can literally puke 5/6 times and not a small amount either! He has just puked in my hair about 10 mins ago (will be getting shower any minute now.....Isobel is washed with clean sleepsuit, but he is still asleep in my bd upstairs) but he too is piling on the weight, don't know how sometimes!
I had something wrong with my hips when i was born and had to wear one of those casts with the stick in the middle and i'm fine now, no wrong leg alignment or funny walk. ;)

Sorry to hear about your stresses bellabelly Glad it all turned out ok. With regards to your mum going, i know what you mean. :)
I also saw the maternal rush of love and i'm ashamed to admit that i didn't get it for Isobel but i did for Jacob. I think it was because i'd already had a daughter and he was something different. It was about 3/4 weeks in and i said to my mum that Isobel has really grown on me the last few days and she said thank go for that, i was wondering when if you were going to bond with her. I burst into tears because i felt so bad. I didn't really realise i hadn't. Now i absolutely adore her and i'm just as madly in love with her as i am with Jacob. Jacob does nothing but smile for his daddy, despite me being here 5 days a week alone (traitor) ha. But Isobel is a complete mummy's girl, just like DD. :)

cinnamongreyhound · 26/10/2010 13:34

Glad all is well bellabelly, not surprising you were stressed!

My cousin was the same sassy34264 but that is apparently too far away for Luke to be at increased risk. He is also totally fine and you wouldn't know at all. How is breastfeeding going?

I have a question about contraception. I went for mine and Luke's 6 week check today and the dr recommended that I have a copper coil. I took the pill when I was in my teens and when my ex and I split 7 years ago I stopped taking it and felt so much better. For this reason dh and I have always used condoms and I don't want to have any kind of hormone contraceptive. I am happy to carry on with condoms but I have to say having something that is less of a physical barrier but without messing with my hormones is attractive. Just wondered if any others have had one fitted and what your experiences were and if there are any other alternatives that you have gotten on well with?

sassy34264 · 26/10/2010 16:21

cinnamon The breast feeding is back on track.......yippee. No pain, so I think the thrush is gone. I am terrible with anything hormone related. I have tried the pill twice and I am a crying, no patience nightmare! I had the coil fitted about 7 years ago. She gave me the choice between a hormone one and a non hormone one and i choose non-hormone. Had it in for 6 years with no problems, only had it took out cos it was only a 5 year one and i'd gone 1 year over. When i went for my 6 week check up, we talked about me getting another non hormone one that lasts 8 years, but i declined for now because DP wants another baby and although i haven't agreed, i haven't said no either and don't fancy having a coil put in now and then having to go and take it out in a years time. So i think we will be on the condoms.
