cinnamon, no, not giving anything for colic, he doesn't seem to have that problem. Think i just need to spend a bit more time winding. Arlo is now 10lb 1oz at 3 weeks - was 8lb7 at birth, so obviously doing okay!

Had a pretty disturbed night last night - down at 11.30, but up for change/feed at 2am 4am and 6am! Not usually like that. He did sleep a lot during the day, does anyone try to keep their LO awake for longer during day so they will sleep at night? I don't know if that's appropriate at this young?

3 + 1 (but feels much longer!)

bananastew · 26/10/2010 19:17

dixie yes, thats it. I'll mention it to the gp next week. As for being sick, I worried like mad cos ds1 was sick at least once a day! I never went anywhere without a sick blanket & dreaded feeding him in public. His weight gain was fine & he's perfect now. I've learnt this time to look at Olly and his weight, not the amount he's feeding! As for sleep I let him sleep for as long and as often as he wants. he's 8 weeks now and is just starting to get into a bit of a pattern but he still sleeps for the majority of the day!

The last 2 nights he's fed at 6pm then gone right through to 3am on mon and 1am this morning! I'm going to see if a dream feed at 10 might just see him through the night! Wish me luck!

Sassy Ds1 has a dimple just at the top of his natal cleft. He never got a scan! the dr checked it before we left hospital & said it was "closed" I couldn't see it was closed, Its very deep but he's fine!

I've had a horrible afternoon. Ds1 was so tired he just screamed from 4-6pm, DH left his sandwich crumbs on the work top, pathetic I know but I've asked him a million times not to, I cracked my head on the kitchen cupboard & my hand on the corner of the fridge. Olly was also screaming for a feed so what did I do?! Screamed and threw his bottle on the floor. 1 smashed bottle & 5oz of sticky formula all over my nice new kitchen. Cue Ds1 screaming even louder cos "mummy scare me!" Sad

Tomorrow WILL be better!

Oliver 8 weeks today [shocked]

sassy34264 · 26/10/2010 19:27

Oh bananastew hope tomorrow is better for you. I'm not having a great time at minute myself. Isobel and Jacob are both crying (i am taking it in turns to pick one up, they stop so i put them down and then pick the other crying baby up, they then stop and the other starts!) Great fun. But i'm being up beat about it cos i've just read that one of the ladies on my twins thread has had her babies at 26 weeks and they are in intensive care. I'm just thanking my lucky stars that mine are strong enough to scream their bloody heads off.

banana.... tomorrows are always better. Hope you're feeling better and remember what a wonderful mummy you are!

Dixie Jack is now 5 weeks old and at 3 weeks he changed his sleeping pattern which bamboozled me too. He was up at similar times to your LO and stopped feeding his 3-4 oz and was only taking 2. Now he's back to taking 3-4 ozs and sleeps from 8pm to 11pm. Feeds at 11 then sleeps til 2.30am ish and then is asleep until 6.30am - 7ish.
I wondered whether I should have been keeping him awake in the day but found that this made him more unsettled in the evenings. He is much better being left to decide himself so I would recommend letting him sleep.
Jack is much easier to settle when he's slept during the day with plenty kick about time just after changes so he can release some bursts of energy.
Hope everyone is doing well! Grin

5 weeks + 1 with weigh in tomorrow!

MammyG · 26/10/2010 23:08

Hi all
Banana - Hope you are feeling better. These are tough days and trying to cope with all we have to do and our LO's depending on us is very difficult on the amount of sleep we are getting. My DH is at home more this year and just keeps saying 'I dont know how you do it!' Nice to finally have the recognition. I also found the transition from 1 to 2 children very hard at first. This time round Im a bit more 'ah screw it!' about a lot of things!

Where is the 'rush of love' thread? I always say that with DS2 it was more like falling in love. I was about 6-8weeks in when I realised I was head over heels with him. I was too busy just trying to find my feet before that. This time round because Im a bit more relaxed it has been a rush again! Its all good!

Doctor check up today - she has been given the all clear. We dont need to travel back to the clinic anymore as they feel her episode was def a one off! I pretty much knew that but nice to have the experts say so. She is now 9lbs4 - her brothers birthweight! Such a pallava travelling tho and working around feeding etc! lovely to come home and have her two brother rush up for hugs and kisses cause they missed us!

Dixiebell · 27/10/2010 00:07

Arlo just did the most adorable 'drunk on milk' face. Came off my nipple with milk dribbling down his chin, did a massive burp, then gave me a big smile. Not voluntarily I'm sure, but still. So cute! Now if he'll only settle in his basket, all will be perfect...

Dixiebell · 27/10/2010 03:35

Well he settled but just woke up with a soaking wet back (how does the pee get round there and all up his back?!), and of course ravenous after the change...!

Dixiebell · 27/10/2010 12:12

2009 ONS baby name stats out today. Oliver & Olivia are top names. Interesting to see how it compares to our list.

Debs75 · 27/10/2010 15:02

Bellabelly Lucy and dc3 have little dimples at the base of the spine. I was worried with dc3 about spina bifida but my HV said it was common and nothing to worry about. Lucy's is bigger but again was told nothing to worry about. Who decided she should be tested?

We have managed 4 out of 6 nights with an 8 hour sleepGrin it probably won't last but it is nice to know she is trying to drop off the midnight feed. She was up a bit last night as I couldn't find a clean gro-bag so she was in with us. It was lovely but I had a dead arm this morning.

I have had the implant put in, dp is supposed to be having the snip but he is a baby and keeps putting it off.

Much better day today, Oliver (such a common name! Grin just laughed!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/10/2010 17:16

Dixiebell I am a firm believer in leaving babies to sleep, I really think that if they get over tired they sleep worse at night as it's so hard for them to settle themselves. If you wake them deliberately it cam often make them overtired. I have a constant battle with my conscience over children I childmind who I'm asked to wake, awful to wake sleeping child especially when it's my job to do the best for the child as well as what I'm asked by the parents! Interesting Oliver has taken top spot from Jack in the name tables!

Glad to hear you have the all clear mammyG!

I'm knackered this week Luke has started waking for a feed twice a night and then again at 7 so I just have time to shower before he wakes up :(

JodeyLea · 27/10/2010 17:27

Hiya ladies

well the rash is still on Harlyn's cheeks though it doesn't look as angry so obviously is getting better. O have two new concerns though. Yesterday, a dry patch of skin flared up between his eyebrows. This morning it looked very dry and red. I'm hoping this will go too. I have been rubbing olive oil on it. It's such a shame ad his skin was so perfect in his first week.
He is also a very sicky baby. He spits up loads after every feed so I'm assuming he has reflux. Should I contact my HV or wait for her to come on Monday as I'm assuming there isn't much that can be done and is something that he'll grow out of.

I was worried last night as he fell asleep at 7:30 and didn't wake up until I eventually forced him to do so (by changing him) at 2:30am. That's a solid 7 hours. This surely isn't normal for 3 week old. He fed well and stayed awake till 4:30 before going back to sleep till 9am. This little boy loves his long sleeps but it's not good for my milk supply. Had to express lots so nipples are sore today.

PickleSarnie · 27/10/2010 18:46

Hi all,

Hope you're all well.

JodeyLea,Fraser is also a v sicky baby and when I told the HV, she wasn't concerned - said not to worry unless he appeared to be distressed by the puking. So I've just put it down to him being a greedy guts and trying to take in more than he can handle. Also, she said as long as there are plenty of wet/pooey nappies then they are obviously keeping enough down.

Had anyone else's baby start losing hair?! Fraser has been losing his from the front but he still has it round the back. He's beginning to look like Andy from Little Britain!! Apparently (according to google) it's perfectly normal but I'm hoping it grows back soon!

5 weeks + 1

cinnamongreyhound · 27/10/2010 20:30

Luke has lost most of his PickleSarnie and it's growing back now. Ds1 lost his around 3 months, as did I, and when it grew back it was different colour.

JodeyLea do you have a reason to worry about your milk supply? I was recommended not to express in the first 6 weeks as you may end up making your breasts engorged by over producing milk. I wouldn't worry about the sleep, Luke went from 8.30 until 4 a few nights and was regularly going 6 hours without a feed at night (not at the moment unfortunately!). Monday will be fine to discuss your concerns over reflux.

Glad to hear your little man is laughing and helping mummy have a better day bananastew.

bellabelly · 27/10/2010 21:03

Debs75 - both my girls have it but with Charlotte, the paediatricians who checked them over at the hospital said they could see the base of it, so that was fine. With Lucy they couldn't see that it was closed, so that's why they wanted to scan her. I told my MW that I was a bit concerned and she said it's pretty common to have these dimples but usually turns out to be fine. I am just a worrier!

watersprite · 27/10/2010 21:49

PickleSarnie Maria-Ann hair has just started to fall out at the front I'm hopeing it will grow back soon. With my first her hair fell out after a wk and all she was left with was side burns for ages Grin but it did grow back with lots of little curls Smile

Maria-Ann was weighed yesterday and I can't believe she is 8lbs 8oz when just 3wks ago she was 6lbs 15oz.

comixminx · 27/10/2010 22:27

Evening all! Aphra had her 8 week check today (she's eight weeks old tomorrow), and all went very well. They weighed her again too, of course, and she's tracking the 2nd percentile nicely so she's small but fine, and consistent. I'm very pleased!

OP posts:
comixminx · 27/10/2010 22:31

Forgot to say - she's now 8 pounds 2, or 3.685 kilos. Maria-Ann is clearly beating her - though I know it's not a race!

OP posts:
sassy34264 · 27/10/2010 22:50

Jodeylea I was told by an older HV that they never used to worry about reflux years ago, but the doctors now seem to intervene more now (which in her opininon isn't necessarily a good thing)
Jacob was prescibed Gaviscon by the doctors at the hospital- but he just used to sick that up and if anything it was worse. I was told by the HV that gaviscon is given to make the puke thicker, not as i presumed to make it better, so i stopped giving it him-plus i was told it can cause constipation. I looked into it and it is only a problem if they are not putting on weight or if all the acid from the stomach which is in the sick is making their gullet sore.

pickle Isobel lost her hair after a week or two and we likened her to an abbey monk! Not a good look for a girl. I'm happy to say that it is growing back now. :)

I don't know how much mine weigh at the minute cos it's been nearly 3 weeks since they were last weighed, but i have just had to put the 2nd cot into my room because they keep bumping heads being in 1 cot. Gulp, they grow too fast.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2010 13:22

My little man is now 12lb 11oz, checked in ds1's red book and he was 13lb 5oz at this age so maybe I won't have such a gigantic baby so quickly this time!

MudandRoses · 28/10/2010 13:23

Hi all
just to say, I lost track of the thread and its been ages since i came onto Mumsnet - but I had my little boy, Larkin Lief, on Sep 20th by em C section. have been catching up on all your news and congrats to everyone!.
Larkin is 5 weeks now and on the 99th percentile for length, the 96th for weight! Feeding every 2-3 hrs including through the night. Yawn..
hope you're all doing well.

beaditAli · 28/10/2010 13:36

Wow Jack weighs 12lbs at 5 weeks. I think about 2 lbs of it must have been poo tho! Grin

patito · 28/10/2010 14:57

HI

Congratulations *Mudandroses.

Im so glad this thread isn´t moving as fast the antenatal one. I cant seem to keep up but I guess most of us are the same.

Its good to read that everyones little ones are doing well.

Maia is lovely with lots of smiles and funny little gurgles. Most of her hair has rubbed off round the top aswell leaving that Frier Tuck do. DS had the same and ´fraid to say it didn´t grow back for ages.

We´re due for our 8 wk check up on the 8th when she´ll be almost 10 wks but not too bothered. It works a little different here though, children see a peadatrician as standard (not the family Dr), there´s a Peadatrcian Dr and nurse team at every health centre. There are check ups every month then gradually slowing down as child gets older. You´re also suppposed to weigh them with the nusre every week for first 2 mths, but I haven´t bothered as its a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, the monthly check ups are enough I think.

Dare I ask, is anybody else not vaccinating??

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2010 16:06

Congratulations MudandRoses!!

I am vaccinating patito, I believe it's the way to go. You won't get any critism from this direction, but could I ask your reasons?
