banana sending you fellow Sept thread hugs to make everything a little bit brighter hugs

Just having a break from jewellery making. Been doing it since dh got home and he's gone to bed with Jack now so I'm trying to get as much done as possible but have orders coming out my ears. Should be a good thing but I'm exhausted and making everything backwards Sad
Didn't get out to play in the snow today but hopefully tomorrow Smile

cinnamon when are you taking to the skies?

She's going flying ladies!!!!

Was tickling Jack with a feather today..... his face just melted with the sensation of it. Eyes closed and that all tucked up feeling spread across his face. I'll never forget it! Grin

sassy34264 · 30/11/2010 22:06

watersprite It doesn't sound selfish at all. I think we have all been fed the hype that children are to be your life, your be all and end all, but it's just not true. You need your own life/space for your sanity! Plus, they leave home eventually, what do you do then, if you've never lived a little yourself. :)

Had a scare today. Totally forgot to wash off the thrush cream and i fed Isobel. [sad) A lovely nurse at NHS direct managed to reassure me through my sobs that she will be ok. She has been a little out of sorts though. Although that might just be me over analysing every cry etc.

I'd just like to say thank you to you all on this thread. You are all extremely supportive and amazing. This has been brought to my attention today after the horrible replies that two soon to be mums have posted on my twins thread.(not that i didn't already know how wonderful you are!)

MammyG · 30/11/2010 22:30

Hi all - loads to catch up on.
banana - sorry to hear about your aunt. Hope you are minding yourself. x
cinamon - happy birthday girlie! hope you are enjoying it.
sassy - Hate when you get a scare like that. Hope you are feeling better.

All your babies sound so lovely - great to have a picture of their personalities.
Phoebe is a little elf. She has really tiny features and all her noises are girlie and cute but then she burps and farts like a man after a night on the beer. Everyone jumps in surprise. She smiles constantly. When we go to her cot she smiles like we are the best thing she has ever seen - makes my heart jump. She loves all the racket her brothers make and doesnt like if it gets too quiet. She lights up in a special way when they interact with her. She talks to her mobile and giggles at it. She giggles after her night feed while she is snuggled up to my boob - like she as just done something naughty. She loves it when you tickle her chin and loves rubbing her face all over my breast then just dives on!

Had a lovely few days in the city with the kids. They loved the hotel and were quite good all things considered. DH was working two of the days but he liked that he didnt have to drive two hours home and could have a pint! Got a fair bit of our xmas shopping done and posted our letters to santa. Was lovely to be away - was down coming home! just dont want to be here anymore. And forgot about recession for 3 whole days! Best laugh was when we were walking past a lingerie shop and DS1 shouts back to me on a really busy street - Look mom, they are like the things you hold your boobies in!

MammyG · 30/11/2010 23:42

Oh and sassy if you want me to have a word with the mean mommies I will Wink

beaditAli · 01/12/2010 06:10

Mammy Grin visions of mumsnet wars really put a smile on my face after a silly night of feeding and jewellerying. Thank you Smile

sassy it's such a shame people feel the need to contradict anything new or practiced mums have to say on here. We all need each other so they can just go jump into their little holes of unsupportiveness! Wink

Well after giving Jack a feed at 12 after a night of work I'm up and have been printing invoices since 4.30am. :o(
I always underestimate how busy Christmas is. clumsy you think that you, skye and Arlo could drudge up the motorway to help? Oooops... is that child labour? Blush

Am looking forward to the feather stroking again today to see the gorgeous melting look on Jack's face Grin

Happy snowy Wednesday all Smile
(doubt i'll be this chirpy later) Hmm

comixminx · 01/12/2010 06:58

Before I forget - Sassy, have you seen this thread about exercise after birth? Might be relevant to you.

Blimey, once again this thread's moving so fast it's hard to keep up! So lovely to read about all your babies though. I'll do Aphra separately bur just wanted to say it really brought a smile to my face when reading those posts - such a good idea, and taken up so enthusiastically by people!

banana - sorry indeed about your aunt. My uncle died about five years ago and it was hard all round - I know my gran still thinks about him a lot, of course. I hope you all get through it as well as possible, but of course with lots of good positive strong thoughts of her.

beaditali, blimey, energy rush or what? Good luck with all that but don't forget to pace yourself and look after yourself too!

watersprite, don't blame you at all for wanting to get back to uni! Sounds like your OH could do a bit more maybe? Could he take Maria-Ann out in sling or pram at all and give you a break that way?

Well, I went for a long walk yesterday with Aphra, over to a friends house about forty minutes away - or maybe it would be forty minutes if I wasn't laden with sling, baby, books I'd borrowed from friend, change bag, and even an old iron I was taking to a nearby repair place to see if they could fix! Getting there was ok, and luckily she was in so I had a nice natter and coo over her baby. Getting back got a bit more tiring as the pavements were getting a bit more dodgy but we got back to my end of town safely - only for me to still have to trek to Boots and the whole food shop for a few final things! My legs didn't half ache at bed time. Think we'll have a very quiet day today...

sassy34264 · 01/12/2010 09:01

Thanks mammyg for the offer but i've already given it to them......both barrels. It wasn't directed as me as such, but i got caught in the cross fire. Some poor soon to be twin mum who oh is worse than mine :o, and she has been telling everyone about him. I don't post on there now only to say congrats when someone give birth, but thought i would give her some support and said my DP was supportive before hand but we have problems now, so if he's not supportive now, before you have the babies you might be in trouble. Talk to him etc about what he thinks you should do etc.
Cue to replies from 2 different people about how it's horrible when women slag their men off, i'd be devastated, we all have our own roles and should just accept it and pull in the same direction and having babies should be the happiest time of your life. My DH is nothing but supportive, can't imagine him not helping me. Amongst other things said.

Told the OP that she can come here and moan and we'd all listen to her and support her. Also that if i want to moan about my DP i think i'm entitled. Said he moans about me to his friends and i'm not devastated! (get a grip) Also said sleep deprivation does not make it the happiest days of your life necessarily (don't think they'd be very sympathetic to post natal depression suffers!) but what would you know as you haven't even got any kids yet (either of them!) One ssaid she liked to think she has some wisdom at her age, told her it's not wisdom it's naivety, if it was wisdom she would recognise that not everyone is as lucky as her to have a brilliant DP and then she wouldn't be as smug.
Silly witch.

sassy34264 · 01/12/2010 09:05

Thanks comix will have a proper look in a bit, just scanned now. Sounds like you had quite a trek!
I stayed up till Jacob fell asleep last night, it was still 12.40am but i just watched telly and got less stressed about it. He still hasn't woken yet, so my boob is massive! It would appear he is in a routine 12.40. 140 etc, just need to make it 5 hours earlier!!! Argh both babies are crying upstairs now.....must dash.

Dixiebell · 01/12/2010 09:09

Hi all! Well we had a bit of a scare yesterday. I noticed this very pale blue bruise on Arlo's side about 2 weeks ago. It didn't seem painful, so I thought just keep an eye on it for now. Was still there yesterday so I mentioned it to HV at well baby clinic. She went onto panic mode and said I'll call yr GP, you might need to go for x-ray...was left feeling scared and v.guilty that I hadn't seen doctor when first spotted. She also began saying we'd get questioned about abuse, whether we'd ever left him with anyone...! I was envisaging a night at the hospital being interrogated, but the GP took one look and said it was a birthmark. Phew!!!! Was not looking forward to driving out in the snow, and was so scared that Arlo had been suffering with a broken rib or something and we hadn't noticed! GP said paranoid HVs! ;)

Love reading about your LOs, brought a tear to my eye. So here's mine:

Arlo has been told by everyone since day 1 that he is 'so alert!' he is very interested in what's going on around him, and loves to watch mummy and daddy doing things around the house. He absolutely will not be held like a tiny baby any more, he always wants to be held upright, facing forward, and will only face forward in his baby Bjorn. His very favourite thing is to stand up, and he has a look of sheer determination on his face when he does so, straining with all his muscles so he looks like a body builder posing in a competition! He loves joining in with his daddy's singing, and when we stick out our tongues he does too. He loves watching the flashing lights on his play gym, and whacking the dangly toys on his bouncy chair. Last night he went absolutely crazy watching his mobile with his nappy off, I have never seen him kicking his legs so hard! He sleeps amazingly well at night - over 6 hours every day fog the last week, and goes down well, although with a cacophony of grunts, sqeaks, s'mores and straining noises for the first 20mins! He will only sleep in his bouncy chair during the day, or in the car, out in the pram, or on mummy's chest! :) and he has never knowingly refused milk! He's adorable.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2010 10:12

Sorry to hear about your auntie bananastew.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes! beaditAli I have a voucher that lasts 6 months so when we have a free weekend we will book it. Might be nicer to go when the weather's better but I am quite excited so not sure I can wait. For everyone else dh bought me a flight in a helicopter! You can fly it yourself depending on your capabilites otherwise you just get to be a passenger. My mum bought me a pandora braclet with a couple of beads and I got a bead from my boys too Grin

sassy34264 I had a look at your twins thread to be nosey and I am surprised how someone who is pregnant with twins can be so sure how things are going to be when they are here! I don't think it was meant as harshly as it came out. I have to say I have looked more from a man's point of view since I had ds1, but you still need to vent your frustrations at your men amounst fellow women. You were very clear here that you understood you dp was under a lot of pressure but that you were too and that you needed a little help, not that you wanted him to work full time and do everything else too so I think they were a bit ott and probably very naive too Wink. Anyway, you always have us to chat too! How did Jacob settle last night?

We went to my mum's last night so Luke was awake until 8.30pm which is very late for him so he only woke once in the night Grin. I would rather he went to sleep a bit later as I miss him (and my sleep) but I feel too mean to keep him awake when he will just be grumpy.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2010 10:19

Sorry sassy34264 took so long to write that you had posted about Jacob's bedtime Blush

Dixiebell that sounds like Luke! Everyone always says he's so alert, I think it's because he has big eyes. His favourite position is also on my lap facing the world and hates to be held like a baby if he's awake. So sorry about your scare, glad it's nothing serious.

comixminx · 01/12/2010 10:51

About Aphra:

She's generally very peaceful and placud - a very easy baby - but as others have said, when she gets cross, her lower lip curls down and she looks like this Sad except that often we're quite amused by it! She sticks her arms and feet straight down and squalls sometimes and it's like a cartoon or something.

She looks like a little person rather than a baby-face; she is nicely chubby but has features more like a young child than a little baby. Between that and being very alert - in the sling she looks round at the world as it goes by, and out of the sling she looks intently at us - she seems a bit older than she is. She loves standing up, like others on the thread - stretching and kicking her legs seems like her favourite occupation, or one of her favourite three occupations cos she also loves feeding (little "mmms" of contentment!) and looking around like I said.

She loves bath-time, which her daddy does; now she kicks her legs peacefully and happily in the bath while he wipes her down with the cotton wool, and really enjoys herself.

I show her the mirror baby and just now she's started to understand it a bit better, I think; I was looking her in the eye in the mirror and making silly faces, and she was definitely looking back and enjoying it.

Aphra 13 weeks tomorrow!

OP posts:
comixminx · 01/12/2010 10:52

Placid, that is.

OP posts:
saoirse86 · 01/12/2010 12:54

I forgot in my post about Orlaith that oh my does she love bath time. She'll stay in it for about 20-25 mins kicking and jumping and cries when I take her out.

On a non-baby related note, I've just been checking what courses I need to do before I finish my OU degree and I'm only 3 courses away from a degree in Maths and Stats!! Grin feeling very proud of myself, I thought I had 5 to do!

sassy I think moaning about DP to all of you stops me arguing with him, so I think it's fine!

Off to baby club for the first time now, see you later.

bananastew · 01/12/2010 14:12

Thanks everyone.

Ugh this snow! 12 inches now! Everythings cancelled! Toddlers Christmas party, Lincoln Christmas market, Life!!!!!!! I can't get out the house cos my wellies are at my parents & won't even consider getting the car out! The co-op has run out of bread, not that I could get there anyway! moan moan moan!

Sassy ignore them! I made a comment about "it being a man thing" on a thread when someone was moaning about their oh. Can't remember what it was about but got flamed by a couple of people saying that was awful & not all men are the same my dp blah blah blah!!!!! I was only trying to offer support to the op! If you can't moan on mn where can you moan!

newmum001 · 01/12/2010 14:24

Oh my god Grace is trying my patience today, she is refusing to go to sleep but is obviosuly tired! She slept 10 hours last night so i fully expected her to be awake all morning but its 2pm ffs and im exhausted, been up since 5am! Is anyone else feeling completely trapped by the snow! We've had about 7/8 inches and i haven't been out for 2 days!!

Im loving reading about all the babies, Grace is not the easiest of babies, nothing can keep her entertained for more than 5 minutes but she loves bath time especially when daddy whooshes her through the water!! she loves having her nappy off and screams blue murder when i put one back on! she is fascinated by the dangly toys on her play matt but gets so mad that she can't get them. She loves having her feet rubbed and will sit blissed out for ages. She is very very good at night time but believes every day should start at 5am, i strongly disagree!! Her smiles melt my heart and she definately knows who mmummy and daddy are!

sassy34264 · 01/12/2010 14:47

It's only just snowed today where i live, so it's a novelty for me. And i don't bloody go out anyway! :o It looks beautiful out of the front room window, in the warm with my pj's still on. :)

I so want to eat, and mostly i want rubbish, but there is nothing in. Grump. So far i have eaten 2 toast with peanut butter, bowl of cornflakes, 2 bananas and an apple and 2 cups of tea. I'm having to make do with fish and steam veg, for my late lunch- umph.
I'm seriously giving consideration to eating the xmas pudding......well no-one eats it on christmas day anyway, but my mum still buys one every year........ 'just in case' !!!

mellymooks · 01/12/2010 14:57

newmum my DD is nearly 3 and still thinks the day starts anywhere from 5am and at the lastest 6am!!!! The fact that Grace is sleeping 10 hours is absolutely amazing I would give my right arm for more than 3 hours straight at night with Flynn.
That's not to say you shouldn't be knackered or fed up though!! tis the most knackering job on the planet afterall whatever sleep patterns they've got going on.
Can you put her outside if you wrap her up really warm? Maybe she would nod off?
Flynn is really stuffy at the mo and he is wrapped up for a north pole expedition in the porch and has been asleep for nearly 2 hours, think he likes the fresh air in his pipes!

It's not very snowy here but so icy it's too dodgy to go out, we can't even walk up our path is so slippy, think we might be getting the snow the next couple of days.

We've got the xmas tree up in our house DD couldn't wait any longer, she is so excited as it's her Birthday on the 13th and then xmas after that, everyday she wakes up and says "is it my Birthday yet?"

Ahh it's going to be very magical this year.

Flynn 10 weeks today!! Where did that go?!

newmum001 · 01/12/2010 15:23

Oh my god mellymooks if that turns out to be the case with Grace i may have to kill myself Grin however im in bed by 8pm most night so don't normally mind getting up at 5am and DP does it every other day so i get to stay in bed till he has to start getting ready for work at 7! I do feel very very lucky that she sleeps for so long at night though. It came all of a sudden towards the end of last week after a few horrific nights of being up till 2am! The air was blue in our house on thoses nights i can tell you!

Quick question for those with older children. When in your experience do babies start to entertain themselves a bit more. Really struggling to keep Grace occupied when shes awake as she can't play with anything yet and sreams the house down when she can't see me. All the old tricks, bouncy chair, swing chair etc seem to be losing their appeal recently and although i now have a killer arse and legs from all the bouncing and walking around i do with her i am getting a bit fed up of doing a running commentry on everything i do, "mummy is just going to put the kettle on, mummy is just going to get your rattle, mummy is just butterig this peice of toast etc"! She does tend to love naked play time but i usually use that as my last resort, don't like pulling it out of my bag of tricks too soon cause when she gets bored of that i really am screwed!

I've got a fisher price bounce and spin froggy that my now ex sister in law got for us and just wondering if anyone else has anything like this and if she's still a bit too young for it. She is holding her head up really well now but still sometimes looks a bit pissed with it rolling around a bit.

Was going to try and go to a stay and play group thing today as i am in serious need of adult company but this bastard snow means ive had to stay in yet again and im starting to go a bit crazy in this house all day!!

newmum001 · 01/12/2010 15:24

Keep forgetting

Grace 11+1

mellymooks · 01/12/2010 16:23

newmum not sure what a bounce and spin froggy is?!
When Kaesha, my DD was little I had a baby gym she could lie under with stuff for her to hit and stare at. And one of those inflatable rings so she could be a bit more upright and look around as well as a bouncy chair and the carseat and I used to move her every half an hour or so from one thing to the next, mixed in with feeds, cuddles, nappy changes, sling etc this seemed to keep her happy and stopped me going nuts just doing one thing, also baths in the middle of the day for us both passed the time a lot!

beaditAli · 01/12/2010 16:36

Xmas Grin Xmas Wink oh mi! Loving our new festive faces! Xmas Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2010 17:10

Hadn't seen those Xmas Smile, Bear is cute too!

We had one of these for ds1 newmum001. It's great because it does loads of things, can be a doughnut thing, can prop them up and we used to put him on the mat with things in front of him for tummy time (which he hated until 4-5 months) but he was mainly in his bouncy chair as he loved hitting the teddies.

clumsymumsnowdriftbaby · 01/12/2010 17:19

melly we have yet ^morein common...its my* birthday on the 13th tooGrin
say happy birthday to your dd from her b'day sharerGrin
newmum what melly saidGrin and do try a sling, they love to watch what your doing,my dd didnt entertain herself at all for a long time (shes still not great at it Sad) and you will be narrating your life for a long time to come im afraid!
def' get to a group asap,it doesnt matter that your baby cant 'play',it will be really good for youSmile

watersprite · 01/12/2010 17:26

banana sorry to hear about your auntie x

sassy34264 think I was just feeling sorry for myself yesterday. Feel much better today :)
I'm a student nurse and go back to Uni in May, I have my last 13 week placement left then I will ba a qualified nurse :)

cinamon Happy Birthday :)

comixminx My O/H has said he will be more helpful and I think he realises that some days I find it quite hard, he is making more of an effort. Thinking of getting a sling are they safe and which one would you recommend? thinking Maria-Ann may get more comfortable in one on daddy as she finds him quite uncomfortable and will only settle on me.

Sort of had a bit of a moan yesterday at my O/H and to my amazement this morning he had done all the washing and drying which helped me out loads :) also slept down stairs again so I could get some sleep as he snores quite load.

Maria-Ann is very cute and when she's not screaming has the most beautiful smile that makes my heart melt. She loves bath time with daddy and he will swoosh her round the bath which she loves the most. when awake she likes to be kept entertained by bouncing in her bouncer or lying on her matt and loves to attack the lobster that is attached to it. She really loves the cd Enya which will keep her quite for a bit. She is very good at aiming when she poo's and has covered me twice in it [shocked]
She really likes her sister making funny faces at her and loves to hear her sing :)
mostly she loves her mummy cuddles Grin

10wks +1day
