Not been on for a while and too much to catch up on now.

Lucy had her 2nd injections on thursday and spent the next 36 hours asleep or pooing. 10 times all in allShock Think it's probably a reaction but hoping it's a good one getting rid of the toxin side of the vaccs rather then them making her ill. She seems ok now but not looking forward to the next lot just before christmas.

sassy I know what you mean about feeling guilty for giving formula after exclusively BF but at the end of the day, you have to do what is best for both you and the babies. Babies who are given formula still thrive and develop. And you will still be giving them some bf too so they are still benefiting from that. You have done an amazing job feeding them both for this long. I do 3 bf per day now and 3 formula. Mainly due to the the reflux (he sick up more after BF than ff)as i can use the gaviscon in his bottle which seems to help. But also so that I can continue to sing and do gigs (need the money) and I couldn't express enough to keep him going through the evening as he is a very hungry baby. Don't feel guilty, feel proud for giving them the best possible start in life.

I did find dairy made him more sick but stopped keeping the food diary due to giving half bf and half ff.

Any ideas on getting babies to sleep in the day? mine is also a cat napper x x

Thread's moving as quickly as ever I see! Jodey, Aphra got better at sleeping during the day as she got older (not very helpful I know) so I haven't got any specific advice other than I think it'll improve by itself... make sure he's in the basket or cot with a nice full tummy and is warm & comfortable in other ways I guess, then try it.

Aphra's got her second injections this week too. Sad

Sassy, what training do you do? I'm sure it'll be great for you and the family to get back to some of that, even if it means changes in how you feed your little one. If it helps your mood and energy levels it'll be good all round for all!

JodeyLea DS1 wouldn't sleep for more than 20 mins as a baby, he just got better with age. Was having 3 proper naps a day by 6 months but can't remember the exact changes in between. Luke sleeps better at night and in the morning, as he get accumulatively more tired during the day he finds it harder to sleep and I often feed him to sleep in the evenings, the rest of the time he settles himself.

Can't remember who its was but if you are still bleeding after 8 weeks you should mention it to your health visitor. Are you sure it isn't a period?

newmum001 · 22/11/2010 20:52

Hi all sooo much to catch up on! We've had a very busy weekend, tea party for grace on Saturday so all the extended family could meet her and she slept near enough the whole way through it! But she's being such a bugger at night recently. It was 2am last night before she finally went to sleep, could it be a growth spurt do you think? She's 10 weeks tomorrow.

DP has just managed to get her to sleep now so i'll go to bed soon if she stays asleep.

Sassy - i also have been feeling that i need to get out more. Just need a bit of time to myself as im starting to feel very claustraphobic (sp) in this house all day. Might take up the gym although with all the bouncing about i do trying to settle grace my legs and bum are starting to feel very tined already!!

Just ordered a sling to hopefully make my life a bit easier during the day as Grace has all of a sudden become very clingy and wont be put down, does anyone else use one?

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/11/2010 21:26

This one and it's great!

sassy34264 · 22/11/2010 22:00

comixminx I'm a member of a Tri team, so i run, bike and swim. I also retrained last year as a gym instructor. I was a lecturer but my last college was horrendous and i just couldn't do it anymore. Sad

I find mine sleep longer in their carseats than anywhere else Jodylea probably because they are upright and so it helps with wind.

MammyG · 22/11/2010 23:32

Hellew all. Its moving so fast around here!
Might be swimming over to meet you all soon enough if this country keeps sinking at the rate its going!! Send out the lifeboats! Anyway DH and I are taking all 3 to the city on thurs and staying for two nights in a hotel!! The boys are scheduled for their xrays so we have decided to do the xmas shopping and enjoy a few festivities (tho DH has to work the fri) and come home late on Sat. We cannot really afford the hotel on top of the shopping but reckon we better do it before the budget as we wont have a penny after that. (totally illogical thinking but sanity demands a break!)

Sassy Phoebe has been getting a bottle around 10 am and 5-6pm every day for about 3 weeks now. I needed the time for the boys, Do supper and bedtimes etc. I was going off my rocker trying to juggle it. Its so much easier now and after her evening feed, she has a bath and is settled to bed by 7. I then wake her for a feed around 10.30 which does her til about 3am or so. It also means I can run out in the mornings and do few things and this week Im back walking. This is my third and every time I agonise over when to wean and how to do it etc but I think these things bother us a lot more than them. Phoebe couldnt care less whether its bottle or boob as long as she is fed and having a bit of a routine means she has a far more relaxed mum! Mind you today her older brothers tested the limits of my sanity!

comixminx · 23/11/2010 04:51

Oh yes sling-wise newmum, we tried the Kari -me that cinnamon links to above - it's great and we were going to probably order one but we were also given a Baby Bjorn carrier and it turned out that Aphra was quite happy in that so we've just been using that. The Kari-me is great but isn't cheap, and also our understanding is that it'll be fine up to perhaps a year old but maybe not that much more, depending on how big your baby is.

In Oxford there's this great thing, a sling library, so you can go to meetings, try different ones on and get advice on different possible styles, and borrow them for a small fee. All run by volunteer enthusiastic mums! Worth seeing if there's one in your area?

sassy, triathlon! My hat's off to you. I used my bike for getting to and from work until starting mat leave and am really looking forward to when Aphra's old enough for me to take her on it. I'm doing a walk most afternoons too with her, sometimes longer than others, but nothing tri-level!

Poor little Harlyn has woken up screaming! Think he has some trapped wind as everytime he trumps he screams louder! Think I've just about settled him so going to try and put him back to bed.

bellabelly · 23/11/2010 13:47

JodeyLea - hope the screaming stopped! Poor thing. My girls seem to get terrible wind sometimes, both ends. It' supposed to get a bit better after 12 weeks or so, I think.

I am feeling a bit crap today, not sure why. Think tiredness is catching up on me. Had a bit of a weep yesterday because have finally acepted that theirs have outgrown all their tiny newborn sleepsuits and moved them up a size. I definitely don't want any more kids - 4 is enough for me - but still found myself getting quite sad at the thought I'd never be using teeny-tiny baby clothes again! [slaps self]

I think I've also had enough of breastfeeding and pumping milk. Am finding it a bind, even though we are topping up with formula. When I use bottles, the girl are taking about 6 or 7 oz each and I just can't pump enough. And recently when I've breastfed, they seem hungry again very quickly, sounds awful but I just don't have the time to breastfeed each feed. They're sleeping through the night pretty consistently now (we just dropped our 11pm "dreamfeed") and I think I'm feeling ready to switch to 100% formula. I want my body back, basically!

bellabelly · 23/11/2010 13:48

Sorry, just read my post back and it sounds like a right old whinge!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/11/2010 14:28

Not a whinge at all bellabelly! It's a very emotional time, and breastfeeding makes it worse I think because there are more hormones rushing around.

I am super committed to breastfeeding and fed ds1 until he was 15 months but after a couple of terrible nights I even told dh to get some formula so I could have a full nights sleep. He didn't and we haven't but it's not something I ever thought I'd suggest as I got through terrible holes in my nipples/thrush/mastitis with ds1 and never contemplated stopping. Tiredness is a terrible thing! Feeding is such a personal thing and you sound as though you are happy with your decision just be careful you don't get too engorged or any blocked ducts.

DS1 was huge and outgrew everything sooo quickly so I'm amazed that Luke is still in 0-3month clothes at 10 weeks, haven't seen newborn ones for ages Wink. DH doesn't want anymore children, I don't want anymore at the moment but I can't imagine never having anymore so that will be interesting when we get to that stage!

we use a sling. i have a wilkinet which is super comfy and easy to put on. i also have a ring sling which i don't like and a stretchy wich is comfy but easy to get tangled up in, it is so big you can out twins in it. I would love a mei-tai but can't quite afford them.

Sassy you have bf twins for 3 months and gone through thrush. all whilst living with your mum trying to sort out your house and with dp working away. If you need to introduce a ff then do it. The most important thing is that your twins are nourished without your health declining. You have so much on your plate I can tell it is wearing you down. giving them 1 ff each a day will help you destress and get things sorted. Do not feel guilty about it.

watersprite · 23/11/2010 17:20

cinnamongreyhound think it may be my period not sure though? did stop for about a few days then started bleeding again. I'm on the pill so this may of messed things up a bit. Hopeing I will get back to normal soon as I'm so tired and dont think the bleeding is helping.

Well Maria-Ann did the most explosive diarrhoea poo last night whilst I was trying to feed her. I opened her nappy thinking she had done when she did a hugh push and I was covered in it Shock, I had my PJ on and it endeded up going through my pants even ended up all down my clevage and in my belly button. The worst thing was that it was warm and even when I'd sorted myself out I could still smell it. Had to wash PJ twice as the first time it didn't come out. I mention on her a couple of weeks ago that she did something similar but it ended up between my toes and I thought that was bad. My 7 year old was rolling on the floor with laughter and my O/H was just as bad Hmm

Maria-Ann 9 wks today :)

sassy34264 · 23/11/2010 17:47

Eugh watersprite but funny. Funnily enough, i was going to post earlier (but didn't get round to it) about Jacob's poo! (the things we talk about!) I opened his nappy and had a big shock. Never seen anything like it, it was from the front of his nappy to the back and his little tail and testicles were covered thickly! It was even in his belly button. It hadn't leaked out the side of his nappy though......miraculously. I have obviously found the best nappies and they are costco's- MIL got me them.

Thanks everyone with regards to the formula. I have tried it twice at night time, but Isobel hates it and refuses to take it and infact just screams with the teat in her mouth. Jacob just screams if you try to take it off him. :o
I decided to do it, for sleeping purposes, ie, i need more!!!! But it's not made any difference really. The pattern is they both feed about 10.30pm. Isobel will be asleep by 11.30, Jacob can sometimes be too, but more often than not he won't be and then he will feed again around 12-12.30am and then sleep. Isobel wakes practically dead on 3.30am and Jacob 4.30am and then Isobel around 6am and Jacob about 7.30-8am.
It is getting better slowly though cos a few weeks ago it would be 2 hourly all night.
I think they will just find their own way there in their own time. Undecided if i will continue or not. It's only Jacob anyway.

bananastew · 23/11/2010 19:32

watersprite not particularly nice for you but oh, so funny!!!! You've made my day!

Seriously Bella and sassy How do you do it??????? I would be an absolute gibbering mess with that little sleep and 2 new babies to look after. I hope you're feeling better soon bella we're here for you to vent! read back to my posts last friday & I did exactly the same!

We're having a better week. Spoke to my Mum last night and she came and did all my ironing for me and sent Dad out for fish & chips! She also successfully fed Olly a full 5oz bottle which is something no one except me & dh have been able to do so we're on for a child free night on fri!

On the downside, my Grandmas in hospital Sad. She's 90 and really suffers with her chest, especially this time of year!

Olly 12wks. Where the hell did that go???!

newmum001 · 23/11/2010 20:06

Hahaha love the poo stories, we haven't had any poo explosions yet but Grace did a massive wee on my leg last night while she had her nappy off. If i didn't know better id swear she'd been saving it up all day just waiting for silly mummy to take her nappy off and sit her on my knee!

We've had a lovely day today, Grace has been as good as gold, had proper naps and been a very smiley while awake and became fascinated by my face while we were lying on her play matt. She kept grabbing my cheek and grinning her head off. She is now being a terror but it's not her fault. DP didn't wind her properly and now she is awake but very very over tired, think we might be in for a long night.

Also got our first proper night out planned and Grace will be staying at her Nana's for the night. This makes me want to cry but i've made her promise to ring us at the SLIGHTEST hint that Grace isn't ok,, MIL has been asking to have her overnight since she was born which strikes me as odd to be honest, it's one thing asking someone to babysit but quite another to ask new parents if they mind you having their newborn over night!! Just hope i can relax while we're out. It's not till the 15th December so i've got time to get my head round her staying out at her nana's. I know she will be ok but just can't get my head round her not being here for the night. I must admit, even though i feel slightly sick at the thought of leaving her i am really really looking forward to a night out. I intend to get insanely pissed.

Hope everyone is well

sassy34264 · 23/11/2010 20:56

bananstew I am a gibbering mess! Well, maybe not gibbering, but i am the mess :o i can never think of the right word. I was trying to tell DP that DD's school cardigan was in the washing machine, but couldn't think of the word washing machine, so said oven instead. I knew it wasn't oven, but thought he would know what i mean if i say something that's in the kitchen. Confused

I decided to not give formula tonight and try to put them to bed again. They are both fed, winded, changed and in their cot. Read up on the internet for advice, only thing is you're asking 2 babies to play ball and not only might one not, both may not, so it's got a two thirds chance of failing! Jacob is already asleep, but i've been here before. It could just be that he sleeps for an hour and then wakes up all fresh as a daisy Hmm won't that be fun. Fingers crossed.

MammyG · 23/11/2010 21:07

Phoebe had her jabs today - still hate the look on their little faces when they register the pain! She didnt nap properly at all and was very angsty this evening my poor pet.
Am away tomorrow - 3 nights in a hotel! with all 3 children Hmm Still the boys will love it. The hotel has a section of an aeroplane in it and a car in the lobby. I will have to restrain the boys! And will be getting the xmas shopping out of the way! All fun. Will check in on saturday - enjoy the rest of the week

sassy34264 · 23/11/2010 21:10

Sorry to hear about your grandma bananastew hope she is better soon, you have enough to cope with, with your auntie.

Reminds me of my friend who i am visiting on thursday, (Your neck of the woods newmum- droylsden) who had a bleed on the brain and suffered a mini stroke, then her sister died of DVT, their mother is in and out of hospital cos she won't eat (5 and a half stone) with dementia and so her brother decided he couldn't cope and killed himself. All in the last 6 months. Her MIL is also in intensive care at the moment and she only went in with a hernia! The girl is having the worst year of her life. Sad

Puts my woes in perspective.

Dixiebell · 24/11/2010 06:14

Hi all. Arlo slept 6 1/2 hours! Brilliant, except my boobs leaked so much in the last hour, huge wet patch on the bed, argh! I woke before him and was lying there waiting for him to get up to ease my rock hard boobs!!

Lovely day yesterday - Christmas shopping started, and Arlo slept through most of it. Then awake and smiley much of afternoon. Requires a lot more entertaining these days! He now loves to stand taking his weight on his feet (with help of course!), and the effort makes his whole body tremble and his eyes pop out, it is so funny! But he loves it.

7 weeks + 2

newmum001 · 24/11/2010 07:55

Dixie - Grace also loves trying to stand, her favourite thing is to lean against me with her feet on my legs and try to climb up me Grin

We're having a bit of an issue at the minute, evenings are Grace's most awake time and will rarely have a nap between the 6-7pm feed until the 10-11 feed which is fine as she usually sleeps through till morning after this. She will generally fall asleep right after the last feed but for the last few nights she will sleep like the dead in our arms but the second her head touches the moses basket she starts wriggling and wakes herself up. She's done this for the last 3 nights in a row. On Monday night she was put down 3 times before she finally went to sleep.

We've tried all sorts, propped the moses basket up a bit (didn't work) lay it flat again (didn't work) put a hot water bottle in there for half an hour before we put her down so it was nice and warm (didn't work) i don't know what else to try. She's always been a fidget, her little arms and legs are always on the go so maybe she's feeling a bit restricted in there but our bedroom isn't big enough to have the cot in there and she's still too young to go into her own room. She sleeps really well in the pram during the day and there doesn't seem to be anymore room in there than in the moses basket so not sure why she can't settle in it. I might try her in one of those grow bag thingines tonight and see if that helps. Does anyone know what tog i should be using?

Going to get her weighed today, can't wait to see what she weighs now!!
