Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
newmum001 · 16/11/2010 13:13

Hi all, just had a quick read through of the last few posts, my DD is called Grace and is in no kind of routine although i think we might be getting there. Tends to have 2-3 pretty long naps during the day and seems to be awake more at night so we all go up after her last feed. Usually about 10 or 11pm.

Also have been really lucky recently as she's been sleeping through for about a week now. Sunday night was a bit hairy as she was sick in her sleep and started choking so she was up for ages from about 2am. But last night was back to sleeping through. Her last feed was at 9pm, was in bed by 10 and woke up at 5am!! It makes up for the fact that she can be a complete pain the the arse in the evening Grin can't see me and DP getting much alone time for the forseable future.

She's exactly 9 weeks today.

Debs75 · 16/11/2010 13:17

Dixie I have had all 4 down with me until I went to bed for at least the first 4-5 months. When I was little my mum put me to bed after my 6pm feed! I couldn't imagine doing that. Lucy gets a bit grumpy around 9pm so I tend to take her up about 9.30 and generally go to sleep with her. I have left her in bed once or twice but as she shares our room with dc3 I do worry about them waking each other up. And yes the guidelines say to have them in the same room as you when they sleep. Lucy tends not to be more then 6ft away from me at most times and I still prod her awake in the night to check she is still breathing

Saoirse You are 'allowed' to put them on their tummies to sleep when they are able to roll over from tummy to back. You can put them on their tum to play at any age. Lucy eats the mat but likes to lay on her cheek gurgling at you.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2010 13:44

I haven't read the guidelines comixminx but you wouldn't have the with you at all times until 6 months, they are very aware by that point and while you are busy in the living room I would be surprised if a 4-5 month old would sleep through it. As clumsymumluckybaby said there is a lot of doing what you are happy with. Both of mine have slept in their cots in their own rooms straight away. I have always put them on their backs, feet to foot with a thermometer in their room to make sure they aren't too hot and I am happy with this. I sleep like the dead but am awake at the first sound from either of them.

I have been advised to keep Luke off his tummy as his bellybutton has had a bit of a problem healing but it's much better now so am going to try it. DS1 hated being on his tummy and never rolled over at all, sat at 6 months and that's how he always wanted to be!

Sounds like a good plan Chelle1986 re bathtime! I have never bottle fed a baby but agree it could be wind, Luke fusses and comes of the breast but is still hungry and will do a big burp and be fine to go back. The other thing is the teat size, have you increased it? Could be too fast for him and he's chocking/swallowing a lot of air or too slow and he's getting frustrated that he can't get the milk fast enough.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2010 13:46

Sorry Debs75 x posts, amazed at your 4-5 month olds sleeping downstairs I'm sure DS1 would have been far to interested!

Whippet · 16/11/2010 13:53

Hello! Sorry to butt in, but could some of you bring some current 2-month old baby wisdom to this thread here

Ta!

clumsymumluckybaby · 16/11/2010 14:11

oooh, just about to go and get my hair cut! Grin

very exited...bit worried arlo will wake up screaming for a feed though,as i dont have any bottles yet Confused
dp would be kinda screwed..he's never had both of them unless im just upstairs or something...im not sure he understands how long it's going to take either Hmm

and he is running very late from work, unless he's here in the next 10mins,im never going to make that 2:30 appointment Hmm

beaditAli · 16/11/2010 17:04

saoirse86 if it's just for a short while then tummy time is ok as long as they're happy and my HV was recommending it at her visit when Jack was 5 weeks old. He seems to love it and is already using his arms to help turn his head from side to side which he couldn't learn to do on his back. He is a really strong boy though so I guess every baby is totally different..... just go with what seems right for you.
He is definitely settling into his routine of 7pm bath, feed, 8pm basket, sleep, 10-11pm ish feed then crib. He has no trouble sleeping anywhere but I know some LOs do. We have a monitor up there now so are going to start putting him up there after his evening feed. Fingers crossed.
I love how people keep finding our thread! We must be famous on mumsnet! So many other threads just seem to be a place for people to fight with each other! Have read some corkers today! Grin
Oh.... anyone ever used goi goi pillows?

beaditAli · 16/11/2010 17:05

Aaaaaaaalways forget.....
8 weeks 1 day Shock

How's the new dooo clumsyskarlo? Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2010 17:52

I don't know about you beaditAli but I thought Whippet was pretty harsh on the thread she directed us to. The OP just wanted to celebrate her birthday while on holiday, you never know how your baby will be and she seemed quite sensible. Both of mine are/were much better while out than at home! How did your day of working with Jack at his grandparents go?

clumsymumluckybaby · 16/11/2010 18:09

oooh,my hair's clean...and brushed BlushGrin

nice cut too, just trimmed a few inches off and sorted out my fringe, nothing exiting.
but it feels amazing Grin

saoirse86 · 16/11/2010 19:38

I've been desperate to get my haircut for ages but have been worried Orlaith will scream/fuss/fart really loudly the whole time! I might brave it now.

I probably haven't thought about tummy time because Orlaith's constantly wanting to sit or stand. She can hold her head up really well now and does a lot of looking around - she's a bit nosey I reckon! I'm going to try tummy time tomorrow and see how she likes it.

I went out today with Orlaith, my twin sister and her DD (who's 8 weeks + 4) and had them in our new double buggy. We were stopped every 5 seconds by people asking if they were twins. You mums of twins but get driven up the wall by that. My mum said it always annoyed her and she could never do anything quickly while we were in tow.

Orlaith 7 weeks 4 days

saoirse86 · 16/11/2010 19:50

I agree cinnamon, she does seem a bit harsh. Sounds like she's bitter from her own experiences. She might've found things easier if she'd been more relaxed, maybe have a glass of wine herself! Grin

mellymooks · 16/11/2010 21:00

I have no bedtime routine with Flynn yet and probably won't for quite some time. I'm more of a baby led follower on most things and it's worked with our daughter so will stick with that approach!

He's happy down with us and we all go to bed anywhere from 10-12pm.

7wks+6

PickleSarnie · 16/11/2010 21:39

Oh I feel bad. Fraser gets put to bed at 8pm upstairs so we can eat dinner with two hands and have my nightly G+T. The peace and quiet is lovely.

beaditAli, can those goi goi pillows be used once they can roll over? Guess you don't need to I suppose once they can do that though?

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 16/11/2010 21:46

Cinnamon no I was StrictlyTory but am too lazy to change back from Halloween name Grin

Who was your midwife, I had Vic Dale, she was lovely.

Dixiebell · 17/11/2010 07:44

6 week check yesterday. All fine with Arlo, except he screamed throughout and pooped all over his babygro! We still have to go for a hip scan but doc didn't seem worried. Also offered an examination of my bits, which I accepted, just to be sure all healing okay down there!

My birthday today! DH and Arlo have given me some lovely pressies, including nice smelly blue cheese which I did miss when preggers! Might go shopping today, fancy some new boots if the little boy will give me chance to try some on...

Arlo was REALLY snuffly last night, as if his nose is blocked up. DH suggested I 'put him out' at one point, as we couldn't sleep with the noise. I thought a bit harsh to move baby to a different room when he's struggling to breathe! Anyway, he's fine, but wondered if anyone has used aspirators? Are they safe/easy to use, or should I not really be using one just to quiet down his breathing if he's not having any trouble feeding?

6 weeks + 2

cinnamongreyhound · 17/11/2010 08:00

My midwife was Sue Smith StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin, which was really nice as she was my community midwife. Was so different than with DS1 where I had so many changes of shift I lost count!

My best friend swears by them Dixiebell and has offered me hers for Luke but he's not been too bad yet. I used the saline nasal drops for DS1 which worked really well and snufflebabe but I'm not sure the minimum age for that, may be 3 months. If his breathing is noisy it's probably not as easy for him as it should be so I think it would be for his benefit as well as yours! Happy Birthday!

beaditAli · 17/11/2010 09:10

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOOOOOOOO YOOOOOOOOOOOU! DIXIE
Wow... just realised I've not had my hair cut since May Shock I am slightly poop at self maintenance. Ha ha... so I shouldn't have moaned about my lumpy tum earlier in the thread given the fact it's not seen moisturiser for weeks. Hmm
cinnamon totally agree! I think it was a perfectly normal question and she is like me hoping that she can manage her life with bambino not dictating every hour. Of course life changes but it's so important to still do all the things you can. DH plays Sunday league football with extra training nights and I'm so glad. Everyone told him he'd have to stop as I wouldn't let him go.Shock Also was told I'd not get out the house. Well..... been to two gigs and had a girls night. All the time Jack gets trillions of cuddles and so much love from us.
Work went ok though didn't get started until 1pm. Before my folks left with Jack, Mum tripped on my stairs and has a huge bruise on her arm and a bump on her head. Also was faffing about online to get Dad phone no.s. I think I always forget how hectic the spell before Christmas is for shops and galleries ordering jewellery. Too much to hope that any of you have a spare pair of nimble hands?? Hmm
pickle the Goi Goi pillows are really highly recommended for the flat head problems. Hoping I can use one safely now before Jack starts to turn over in his crib. I've heard that some babies heads don't grow back fully after flattening o I'm really worried. When they can roll over do LOs decide how they like to sleep or do they still sleep on their backs?
Wow... monster post! Sorry Blush

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 17/11/2010 10:14

Clemmie is 7+6 and weighs 11.3lbs, can people with babies around the same age tell me what they weigh as she seems to be dropping down the percentiles quickly and I'm worried :( She's EBF, but I don't feel I'm making anywhere near as much milk as with DS....

cinnamongreyhound · 17/11/2010 10:36

She will eat what she needs StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin, I heard a lady on another thread say that her baby was just born on the wrong centile and once she settled onto the right one she was fine! I am in the same boat as DS1 was a milk monster and was gaining 1lb a week, but he did take both breasts at each feed. If she is content between feeds and has wet and pooey nappies then there really isn't anything to worry about, and don't forget girls generally are more petite. At 7+3 Luke was 13lb 2 but had dropped from 91st centile to between 75th and 91st, HV wasn't worried at all. DS1 was 14lb 2 at the same age. Plus Luke is still in 0-3month clothes which DS1 wasn't at this stage but I have to remember not to compare them too much as they are very different babies! I actually spoke to a lady yesterday who said her dd3 was 13lb 4 at 17 weeks (was commenting on how huge Luke is) and her dd1 was 9lb something at the same age so I think you have nothing at all to worry about!

beaditAli ds1 had a really flat head and no matter which way I turned him always favoured to lay on that side. His head is fine now, although his hair probably hides some of it! I still laid him on his back to start with even if he'd roll over in the night. My sil got the boys letters from santa last year from NSPCC so you make a donation at the same time, not sure how much it was but I always think it's nice to help other children especially this time of year when so many children get so much and so many get so little :(

comixminx · 17/11/2010 10:39

Ditto on the wanting to live your life not exactly as before but certainly with various of those old things. Ali, we haven't made it to any gigs (kudos! Did you take Jack and if so did you need to do anything special, like get ear defenders?), but we've gone out several times for dinner, to my work colleagues retirement do, even to a talk (Aphra was surrounded by an adoring circle of admirers who I had to shoo away so I could bf her!). Obviously this will vary from baby to baby and time to time - Aphra does seem to be a pretty easy baby as these things go but sometimes she is quite capable of screaming the place down, of course!).

Happy birthday Dixie! have a lovely day!

Happy Birthday Dixie

strictly mine was weighed at 7+3 and was 11lb 5oz but she's ffed. My sister's bfing and her LO was 9lb 4oz at 7+6 so Clemmie is positively huge compared to that!!

So I decided that Orlaith being grumpy early might be because she's tired. Last night I gave her a bath at 8.30, took her into the bedroom for her last feed at 8.50. She was acting strange after her feed and wouldn't settle so I eventually picked her up when she threw up EVERYWHERE! All over me, her, floor, shoes nearby, a bit fat mess! So I cleaned us both up and put her back down in her cot when she fell asleep immediately. Shock She still woke up a few times in the night but was much easier to settle each time, she even woke up and settled herself without me a couple of times. Then she woke up at 7.15 and I brought her into bed with us and she just stayed there awake, no crying at all until 9.30! I hope it wasn't just a one off.

We're trying tummy time today but it's not going well, I think she's a back kind of girl.

I have to tell you all, I had been very proud of myself not getting any stretch marks during pregnancy despite the 3 1/2 stone I put on. Then yesterday getting changed I found stretch marks.... in my bum crack area. This is proof my arse has grown out of all proportion!

saoirse86 · 17/11/2010 11:04

I agree comix and beadit, babies don't need to seem like a burden. We've been to the pub a few times, during the day and a night, been to couple of fireworks displays (which she loved), been out for meals, been shopping a few times, even on my own. No gigs for us yet either, we'll have to work on that!
I find it strange that almost everyone has asked me when I first went out after she was born. I was in hospital until she was 5 days old so I don't know what I would have done if I'd been a home but I was out as soon as I was home. I drove into town the next day to go shopping (DP's car was with the mechanic and I hate it when he drives my car!). Most women I know who've had children say they stayed at home for a week or two before going out Confused.

beaditAli · 17/11/2010 11:23

comix no Jack didn't come with me. I meant that DH and I are really understanding at giving each other the time to do our own things out the house..... like football and me shopping alone etc. I don't know about anyone else but everyone told me these things would be impossible and they're just not at all.
Expressing definitely helped when I was Bfing.

Jack just had 2 hours asleep on his tummy whilst I worked next to him. He does seem to love his morning nap like this.
Jabs tomorrow and dreading it Sad
strictly Jack was weighed last week when he was 7 + 3 or 4?? he weighed 12lbs 14 he was 9lbs 7 at birth and lost 3%.
