clumsymumluckybaby I don't push it he just has a feed between 6 and 9 after which he seems to be very chilled so I put him in his cot and 9 times out of 10 he falls asleep. If he cries I leave him but if he REALLY cries I bring him back down and try again at the next feed. The latest he's been in bed since he was 3 weeks is 8.45 though.

Don't bother with monitor Dixiebell my house isn't big enough! I always hear him when he starts grizzling.

Saoirse86 I know what you mean about being told off, she really tried to talk me into a coil- which I have decided to go for but I have managed my almost 30 years only to get pregnant twice I don't see why having a baby makes me totally incapable! Don't think you're doing it wrong some babies just sleep less, like adults. Luke still wakes in the night usually once or twice but he is usually in bed by 8pm. DS1 would only sleep 20mins at a time in the day and was very hard work!!

Yes he was StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin on 13th September! I don't recognise your name have you just joined us?

Glad all went well sasy34264 despite your lack of fitting clothes, sounds like an excuse to buy yourself something nice! I cried the first time I left ds1 and had a rubbish time as I was so worried about him all the time! I have had several night time feeds when dh has been awake when I have got back into bed that have left me feeling more tired, not always such a good idea!

Dr. felt my tummy Bananastew and asked specifically about my 'waterworks and bowls' but didn't check anything. She asked if I'd stopped bleeding, had any periods and if I felt well and then a long discussion about contraceptives, the rest was all about Luke.

Have had a lovely day, Luke slept until 7.15 from 2 and then went back to sleep for another hour so got to lay in bed with DH for a whole hour! We then lazed around with the boys, went for a long walk in the forest with a visit to the park. DS1 and I made some brownies as they were so successful last weekend and then both boys are in bed so I'm sitting for half an hour before I put the pork in and do a bit of ironing Grin

Dixiebell · 14/11/2010 22:41

I already have a video monitor bought for us b my parents before arlovwas born, but haven't used it yet as he's in with us at night, and I keep him with me during the day, or at least in the next room if I'm in the kitchen. He doesn't settle easily in his Moses basket during the day - in fact he is sleeping on my tummy at the moment after a failed attempt! But perhaps he would if I left it in the bedroom rather than having it here with me. Who knew there were so many choices to be made and things to worry about when you have a baby! Oh well, had a nice day visiting my sister, granny was there too and we had lots of lovely smiles and even some chuckling from Arlo. Was looking at my (many) photos of him and it's so amazing to see the difference in just a few weeks -

6 weeks tomorrow

bellabelly · 14/11/2010 23:10

I know not everyone is into routines and sleep training but for those of you who want to go down that route, I found a book called "12 hours sleep by 12 weeks" absolutely worth its weight in gold with my first twins. I think the author is called Suzy Giardano (not sure about spelling). With the boys, we didn't manage it by 12 weeks but certainly by 16weeks they were sleeping from 7.30pm to 7am. Iliked it because she doesn't tell you to leave them to cry for ages. Can't remember the details (I gave it away to a friend - we weren't really planning on having more children Grin) but it was generally about geting them to take more milk in the day and cutting down (gently) with the night feeds.

clumsymumluckybaby · 14/11/2010 23:35

does it work on 2 yr olds?! Grin

clumsymumluckybaby · 14/11/2010 23:38

oh at my 6 week check, the doctor said "umm so are you okay?" and that was about it,he checked Arlo well though so thats good!

tbh i was glad he didnt do to much 'checking' as i turned out he's dp's best friends dad! Blush

bellabelly · 14/11/2010 23:57

Grin clumsy!

comixminx · 15/11/2010 04:42

My six week check was fairly sketchy too but I don't mind as I'm basically fine so didn't feel the need for anything more detailed. No feeling of bumhole! Grin

Hi all,

My 6 week check basically consisted of my doctor asking if I'd "resumed marital relations" to which I said yes. Then he said that since "I'd already had an internal in that case" he wouldn't need to check!

Is anyone getting their OH a christmas present from their LO? I was thinking about those fingerprint keyrings but his fingers are so teeny tiny at the moment that I'm not sure it would look right? Then I saw these www.notonthehighstreet.com/twistedtwee/product/pint_set_army_green_ but not sure if they're a bit twee?

Any ideas?!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/11/2010 10:13

Very cute Picklesarnie but my dh wouldn't wear it, he hates T-shirts with print on them. We are getting these for my mum and dad but feet rather than hands. I usually buy things for dh and get dss and ds1 to choose which one they like and they help me wrap it, will just wrap one from Luke too. My mum got me this for ds1's first Christmas and I thought it was a lovely gift to keep Grin

clumsymumluckybaby · 15/11/2010 10:13

Oh pickel,those are so cute!

clumsymumluckybaby · 15/11/2010 10:17

Cinnamon,I'm glad you're getting the feet, the hands look disturbingly severed...

Dixiebell · 15/11/2010 10:39

My sisters bought me a kit to do your own foot casts. We tried and it was a disaster! The plaster was too wet to mould...until suddenly it was too hard! My sis was desperately mixing in more water, I was desperately trying to press Arlo's feet into hardening plaster, he was desperately trying to get away....we ended up with something that looked like Christmas cake snow icing and gave up!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/11/2010 10:58

Babyprints use the stuff dentists use to make casts, its doesnt matter if they wriggle. We had ds1's done when he was 15 months so he had greater escaping powers but was fine. They are quite big though and more expensive!

newmum001 · 15/11/2010 11:05

Oooh only just stumbled across this thread, so heres a bit of info about me.

DD was born on 14th september at 21.44 weighing 6lb 10oz, she was weighed last wednesday and was 12lb.1oz so she's putting weight on really well. Was sleeping through the night (from 11ish to 6ish) for the last week but was up at 2am last night for a feed so we were maybe just lucky last week. We'll see what happens over the next few nights.

She's quite a fussy baby although very rarely cries, she's been very alert and fidgety since day one and has been put on infant gaviscon for silent reflux but think she only has a mild case.

She can be quite hard work at times as she gets bored very easily and really seems to fight daytime sleep but i can honestly say that i am loving every second of it and can't believe how much she has changed already.

beaditAli · 15/11/2010 13:10

Afternoon all.... just parmed The Jackington off with Gran and Grandpa for the day so I can do my Christmas jewellery orders. They have a bungalow so she can't trip on the stairs and whack her head on the wall like she did just before they left this morning! Shock
Welcome newmum001 What's your daughter's name?
Pickle a few friends have those t-shirt sets and were really amused by them so go for it if you like them. DH prints his own t-shirts or gets them from some strange American website so I stay out of buying them for him. Hadn't thought of the pressie to Dad from Jack though so thanks for reminding me! Will get my thinking cap on.
Don't forget to search Rosie Soul when you look on notonthehighstreet!!!! Grin Wink
clumsy glad it's not just us who didn't have a detailed check. Makes it feel a little more normal. Smile

MammyG · 15/11/2010 21:01

Welcome newmum
Banana & Debs - Do come on over! Any excuse for a wee holiday!
Clumsy - not sure where your gran is from unless its Athy? Could recommend loads of places to visit. Which part of the country are you thinking of?
With regard sleep and going down early. Phoebe very much started in her own routine really - just following suit. I noticed a few weeks ago that she was very unsettled downstairs unless she could stay in my arms and even then she burrowed as if trying to block everything out.So just started popping her upstairs. She sleeps a lot better in the dark and quiet. I give her a formula feed between 5 and 6. then closer to 7 its bath, lie on the bed with me for about 15 mins to winder her down then into bed. I usually have to wake her around half 10 for a feed. I breast feed her thru the night. she is waking at 4 for a feed then is settled by 5 but wakes again at 6 ish which Im finding hard. She sleeps downstairs during the day but for one of her naps I keep the boys in the playroom and darken the sitting room for her.
I kept ds2 downstairs for a good while and then tried to get him into a routine at around 15 weeks. No luck - he was 51 weeks before he consistenly went thru the night and even at that was a touchy sleeper that needed a lot of comfort until about 5 months ago (hes 3) I didnt want to miss the window with Phoebe. One thing tho was sitting back and watching her. I would have a tendency to jump in when she started fussing but held off and realised that she fusses for 10 mins or so to wind down.
Today is the first day of dealing with my chocolate addiction - not good!!

beaditAli · 15/11/2010 22:30

Oh... we have Jack in his basket with us until after his 10.30pm feed then we're all up to bed at the same time. He does sleep from around 8/9pm until his feed though so when I said he settles himself I meant that he's right next to us so perhaps it's our voices and hustle and bustle that keeps him from crying....? Hmm
He sleeps in his crib in our room, waking at 3.30am ish then 6.30/7ish and usually sleeps on our bed on his tummy for a following 2-3 hours. This is hard as I dare not leave the room for long since he's on our duvet (flattened out tho!) but he is getting a bit of flat head on his left hand side so am trying tummy time more often.... I can't put him on his tummy in his crib cos then I can't lie and stare at his lovely face Smile
I realised today how lucky we are having this thread. My friend is struggling so much with her little man Stan. She's so far from me so I can't help her out much on the phone. Although I think she's too tired to look at any computer, bless her.
Mammy don't deal with your addiction before Christmas!! That's all January is good for! Wink

Dixiebell · 16/11/2010 03:14

beadit, that sounds morelike our routine - I'm glad there's someone else who keeps their LO with them in the evening, I've been feeling bad that we might be being selfish wanting him there rather than putting him to bed upstairs early evening. He usually sleeps from about 4pm-8pm, while I cook and then we have dinner, then daddy gets sone time to play with him before a last feed when we all go up to bed around 10. We had a couple of 6hour sleeps but lately more like 4 hours, so a feed around 2.30/3, then awake again around 6/6.30.

We have our 6 week check later today - I'm slightly scared having read the variations on what night happen! I will report back..!

Btw, DH and I were bemoaning the fact we never bought a newspaper on he day of Arlo's birth - had other things on our mind! WHSmith online I found, sell back issues, so I bought one of them. £5.99 for a £1 paper (more if the date you want is longer than 3 months ago)!

6wks +1

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2010 08:15

beaditAli and Dixiebell we did that with ds1, although he was in his bouncy chair not moses basket. At 12 weeks I was told off by my HV for him not having a bedtime routine. We started then and he took to it very well. I tried a dream feed with him but it totally threw him out and he woke more in the night! I second bananastew that Luke seemed more fussy if I left him downstairs and as DH don't get much time together we put him in his cot. I think it is different when you have another lo running around demanding your attention all day.

Welcome newmum001!

Luke slept from 8pm until 3.45am last night, I woke up before him in the night!!!

PickleSarnie · 16/11/2010 08:24

I really like that coin idea for Fraser cinnamon, he's not going to appreciate anything this year so might as well get him something he'll appreciate in the future.

Your rosiesoul stuff is gorgeous beaditAli! Although, not sure if it's my OH's style! :) But it's my birthday v soon so I may 'accidentally' leave t'internet open at that page!

bananastew · 16/11/2010 08:39

Morning all! Children both up, fed, dressed and playing nicely, tea in the slow cooker, slow cooking, dhs packup made and all by 8.30am! Who said two children were hard work? Grin

BeaditAli ds1 had a severe flat head on his left side. I saw a consultant about it & she said by the time he starts school it should right itself. It was because he hated his tummy so never really got tummy time! Olly is the complete opposite and hates his back!

MammyG I agree with BeaditAli Save the diet till January! Thats what I decided last night!

Olly 12 weeks today!

comixminx · 16/11/2010 09:40

Blimey banana! and to think yesterday I didn't get out of bed until the afternoon - but my excuse was that I was saving energy in the cold weather! Grin Today we've got an NCT meet up so I shan't be doing that again but it was lovely at the time...

We also keep Aphra with us downstairs in the evening but maybe I'll show DP this thread and we might think again. We do have a bedtime routine though: she has a bath in the evening followed by a bottle of EBM, which hopefully sends her straight off to sleep. But one question for those who put your LOs upstairs while you have your evening downstairs: I thought the SIDS advice was to have them in the same room as you while they sleep, and that a baby monitor isn't the same? Am I misunderstanding it, or do you just think the risk for that bit isn't that great?

Argh! Just finished typing and lost everything! Lets start again eh....! Angry

Bloody hell banana - I didn't even get dressed yesterday!! Envy Oliver decided to scream everytime I left his eyeline!!

We don't really have a bedtime routine yeteither to be honest, Oliver stays down with us until 10:30ish when we go up. He will then have a bottle and go down for about 5 hours, wake for another feed then go down for another 2-3 hours. He then comes in and sleeps with me for another hour or so when DP has gone to work (I love these cuddles). I do try and stay awake at this time though and watch TV as am scared of squishing him! Blush

Am going to start introducing a bath before bed each night this week and then gradually bring bathtime forward each week - then as he starts to associate bath with bed he will go to bed earlier....well thats the theory anyway....!! Grin

Bit worried at the min to be honest - maybe someone can advise... Oliver has been having 7oz feeds every 3-4 hours (except at night when he goes longer) for the last 4 weeks or so. However this last week he has become really fussy, sometimes draining the bottle, but often leaving 2oz or so. He's getting really upset when this happens and I just can't work out whats wrong...

saoirse86 · 16/11/2010 10:44

When are you allowed to put babies on their tummy then? I was told not to. I have tried a few times but Orlaith just thinks she's supposed to eat whatever she's lying on, greedy girl!
I got her weighed yesterday, she's now 11lb 5oz.

I have noticed that Orlaith seems to get a bit moany and fussy after about 7.30 so now I'm thinking she might just be tired. It didn't occur to me before because she normally just goes to sleep on her own. Tonight I'm going to try bath time at about 8 and then her feed and to bed. I really am looking forward to when DP and I have some 'alone time'. It's been a while! Grin

clumsymumluckybaby · 16/11/2010 12:51

bannana you are some kind of superwoman,i was immpressed before you said you'd cooked too!

comix the sids guidelines say baby should sleep in your room in a cot for 6 months,
but i think tbh,it's whatever you feel comfortable with,i have arlo in bed with me..i feel he's safer,we both sleep more soundly and night feeds are easier, but ALOT of people would dissagree wih me! as long as they are checked reguarly, they'd prob be fine in the next room with a monitor,it's just not what works for us!

chelle obviously i cant say for certain, but he might have some wind,if he's gussling to fast arlo sometimes pulls away from the breast, and gets very annoyed, sometimes for ages (half an hour maybe)then he'll do a massive burp and carry on chugging!Grin

oh and they can have tummy time from around 6 weeks! Smile

mammyG that's the place!

and finally,welcome newmum!!
