A friend of mine had her first one 2 weeks after her post partem bleeding stopped saiorse86. With ds1 mine started 4 weeks after I stopped feeding him at night (14 weeks old) even though I fed him through the day until he was 15 months, guess it has a lot to do with the prolactin levels being kept higher through the night feeds.

mapletrees it took us 25mins to get to west suffolk and then another 25mins to walk from the car to the delivery suite, that was bad enough! Glad you had a positive experience though :)

That's really rubbish sassy34264, glad you have sorted it out though. None of this is easy and thing I learnt from last weekend is that dh does want to help but isn't really sure what to do (not great considering Luke is his 3rd ds). We are both tired and both snappy and end up shouting when normally we would have been able to talk to each other. I tend to focus on what is difficult for me and not always see that things are equally as difficult for him, not that that excuses his behaviour at times! I had my worst night with Luke so far he was up at 1.00, 3.30, 5.30 and 6.30. DS1 was up at 2 with a bad dream so I'm very tired today. DH isn't working tomorrow so he knows that when Luke wakes and wants some attention he's getting up with him and I'm laying in Grin

saoirse - i stopped bleeding 2 weeks after I had him and then got my first period when he was 5 weeks. Quite good really.

Although I have PCOS so who knows when I'll have another period. Hoping to get the implant in the next few weeks anyhow.xx

Chelle1986 · 13/11/2010 15:32

Oh and beadit re Holloaks - Max was hit by a car on his wedding day and died....saddest thing I've ever watched.... Sad

mellymooks · 13/11/2010 15:49

comix I live in Stroud Grin

Had my first day today of really enjoying life as the four of us, making a roast, pottering round the farmers market with Flynn in the sling and Kaesha riding on her Daddy's shoulders, it felt right, it felt wonderful, a day I'll be able to hold on to on days that feel really tough.

Will light the fire in a bit and may even have a glass of port or a Baileys ahhhh just the kind of day I needed!

Simple pleasures, I feel very lucky.

Where are all the Scottish Mum's who's names are on our list??
I've had a fantastic week as DH as been off work so I'm dreading Monday when he'll be out the house again. I'd be ok but I think once you get used to the help it's hard to do without it. Wonderful for him to bond so much with Jack though. Grin
Jack's first date at the curry house went well...... we tried not to focus on the fact that little Daisy slept through it rather than returning his cheeky smiles. Smile
Jabs on Thursday and I'm dreading it. Do most LOs get grouchy for a while afterward? Oh the poor little things. Sad I think I'll be a wreck. Blush

beaditAli · 13/11/2010 19:00

Do anyone's LOs settle themselves to sleep in the evenings? I'm not sure whether to be worried or pleased that Jack is perfectly happy to stare at the hood of his moses basket for an hour before he falls asleep. Should I be entertaining him during this time or is it fine for him as he'll get used to it being just before bedtime??? He's smiling and gurgling away just now but only has the ceiling for company Confused

patito · 13/11/2010 20:02

Im in Spain, but originaly from south yorkshire, I try to make it back a couple of times a year but its getting harder (and more expensive) with DC´s in tow.

Maia is so smiley and loves being left on a blanket on the floor to practice rolling over, she´s progressed and now rolls either left or right way.

Periods already, am hoping mine wont appear for a while yet, it took almost a year for them to come back after DS (no hormonal contraceptive).

beatit Maia sometimes settles herself off, Im hoping it´ll last as wont mean problems trying to get her to settle herself later on.

MammyG · 13/11/2010 20:08

Beadit - i wouldnt worry if he is happy. Phoebe is entranced by the wallpaper in our bedroom so even if I put her into bed dozey she perks up and stares at it for a while before drifting off.
Am so amazed with her. The past week she has settled in her crib around 7.30 and that is it! I feed her during the night and she does back in no fuss. So I am actually getting an hour or two in the evenings with all of them sound asleep. Neither of the others did that this young!
My neck is starting to hurt from all the sitting around feeding. Particularly at night - bit of a bugger. Even got a headache today as a result.
Saoirse - lovely that Orlaith is doing that. Phoebe def has a look and smile that is just for me. Love it! Shes my little girl already. DH told me to go away this eve and said I need to share more! He is right tho they need to bond too.
Things were a bit calmer with DS2 today. Decided to kill him with kindness and by the end of the day there was a glimmer of my little Maxy. And we are going to try a week of not reacting to his wetting himself see if that helps at all.
So what are the hot tips for loosing pregnancy belly??? Spill!!

MammyG · 13/11/2010 20:10

Oh I live in the south west of ireland - last stop before america - so guess no coffee mornings for me unless ye want an excuse for a holiday!! Not much going on around here by way of clubs so feel a little isolated. still at least have you guys.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/11/2010 21:29

Grin mellymooks!

You should be very happy beaditAli, Luke settles himself most evenings but sometimes cries a bit. He struggles more to settle himself in the day. He's in his own room at night so no idea how long he's actually awake! Jack will have a bed time at some point and you won't be entertaining him then so if it happens naturally then great imo.

No tips at all MammyG, mine is smaller than before pregnancy because I've lost a lot if weight but like jelly :(

beaditAli · 13/11/2010 21:48

MammyG My tummy looks like month old lumpy rice pudding skin Sad I always had a totally flat tummy and was a size 10/12 so it's a shock. My bump was HUGE tho so there's no wonder I look like I've been stretched around my birthing ball Shock
Friends swear by sleeping on their tummies but I can't sleep like that so am just waiting and hoping.
What have other people's 6 and 8 week checks involved? Have jabs next week but at the 6 week check they never asked about me or my scar etc and only weighed him, checked length and privates. Just seemed a little quick and easy or is it for us to raise concerns to them?
patito mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm warm, sunny Spain Envy

clumsymumluckybaby · 13/11/2010 22:42

oh wow,you guys are putting them to bed already..okay top tips then please,
i cant stop cuddling him in the evening,so he stays downstairs with us and then goes up to bed with me! Blush
i guess im still in newborn mode, but hes going to be 3 months before i know it!
skye was such a difficult baby the only way to get any peace was to hold her so i guess im just doing what i know.
i think Arlo wouldnt mind going to bed on his own...so help, please!
before im still doing this at 6months!!!

i havent had a period for over 3 years!!! Shock

bananastew · 14/11/2010 08:31

Both mine are asleep in bed by 7pm everynight and have been since day one! Perhaps I'm a little strict on that one but I really value my evenings to mumsnet catch up on housework! The last 3 nights, I've given Olly his dream feed at 10pm & he's slept through till 6.30-7am! Skye just do it! Just put him down and see what happens!

I bled for 5 weeks then had my period at 8 weeks! I also have pco and have been known to have a 270 day cycle so am just going to have the injection next week.

MammyG thanks for the invite! I've never been to Ireland! When shall we all come?? Grin

Debs75 · 14/11/2010 10:10

3 months old today!!!

Lucy is smiling more and more and is starting to laugh now. She loves sitting in her bouncy chair watching dc2 and 3 being silly. She has gone off her moses basket so we tend to put her to sleep in her pram. we know she likes it as that is what she sleeps in on a night.
She has stopped sleeping through the last few nights and was in our bed almost all the other night. I don't mind if dc3 stays asleep or else we have 4 in our bed. Need to get a king size when we move.

Clumsy I cuddled dc3 loads and only took her up if she was asleep. She never cried in the night as I woke up as soon as she did and brought her in our bed. She still does it now and she is 26 months. Will have to try harder with Lucy but it doesn't help with us all in the same room.

Did baby massage on Friday and Lucy loved it. It was nice to relax for an hour and not have to play hide and seek constantly. We're going to do rhyme and sign and fun with 5 senses as well so will be pretty busy.

MammyG Thanks for the invite, will be on our way next year

I hadn't thought about putting my boy 'to bed' either, clumsy. he stays down with us until we go to bed - if he's sleeping, in his bouncy chair, or we'll have the Moses basket down here with us. I haven't had him sleeping elsewhere at all yet. assumed this would be the case until he no longer fits in the basket. Do you all use baby monitors when you do that?

5+6

clumsymumluckybaby · 14/11/2010 10:48

i did the same with dd,and at 26 mths, she still needs alot of cuddles and patting to get to sleep, when we put her in her own room,at about 20mths we used a video monitor as i was so weird about being away from her Blush Grin
im going to set up the bedside cot today and see if he'll sleep in it this evening!

mammyg i've never been to ireland,my grandmother was irish,so id really like to go,anywhere you reckon i should visit?! she was from somewhere called 'tie' not spelt like that at all,but that how it was said!Grin

saoirse86 · 14/11/2010 11:45

patito a year before periods? Is that because you were bfing?

beadit my 6 week check was very thorough Shock I was asked general questions about how I was doing, then she made me pull down my top to check my boobs, pull up my top to check my tummy, pull down my knickers to check inside whilst feeling from the outside, then my bum hole!! Blush Then she talked to me for ages about contraception and seemed to be telling me that I shouldn't get pregnant for a few years and she didn't trust me to use condoms properly. It was a bit like being 16 again.

mammyG my tummy went down quite a lot by 2 weeks, but hasn't got smaller since then so I think I need to put some effort into it. Before getting pregnant I was 8 stone 5 and always found it very easy to lose weight so I thought I'd find it easy now too but no. I was 12 stone at the end of pregnancy and have been 10 stone 5 for the last 5 weeks.

sassy I really feel for you, it must be hard by yourself most of the time with the kids. I've been finding it stressful with just one and DP works 6 days in his business but gets home at about 5 each day. He's just starting to do more with Orlaith. He kept saying he was scared he'd do something wrong. Does he think I went on some secret course and know all there is to know about looking after a baby?! Confused
I went through my old clothes shoes and handbags this week. All size 8 clothes went back in the box. At least I can still wear the shoes and handbags!

I can't believe all these babies being asleep so early and sleeping through. Orlaith hardly slept until about 2 weeks ago so I've got into a routine of bath at about 10pm, then I sit in bed with her and give her a feed. She tends to fall asleep in my arms or get very close to asleep. Then I put her in her cot, which is next to our bed. She wakes at 3, 4.30, 6, 8 and 9. She's just now started to nap in the day for about 45 mins at a time. She has hungry baby formula at night to try and keep her asleep longer. In the day she has normal formula and feeds every 2 hours. I've tried water to keep her going but she HATES it.
I'm clearly doing this all wrong, can anyone help?!

mapletrees · 14/11/2010 12:06

We started doing a bedtime routine and putting Louis to bed at around 7.30-8ish at about 6 weeks. We had been keeping him down with us until we went to bed, but he was starting to get very grumpy in the evenings, fussy-not-really-feeding etc, and we thought he might just be getting very tired so we tried it and he slept really well and was much happier as a result. We do use a baby monitor, and I still keep it within sight at all times, just in case he starts to cry, but usually after a couple of resettlings early on, he's quiet until he feeds sometime between 11.30 and 1. :) saoirse, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, we just took our lead from him when he wanted to go to bed (and were lucky). He still feeds every 2-3hrs at night until 6.30ish, often every half-1 hour until 9.30ish and every 1.5-3 hrs all day... We haven't mastered daytime naps yet, and he gets quite fractious when he gets tired in the day.

saoirse86 · 14/11/2010 12:45

maple it's nice to hear that not every baby's sleeping for hours on end!
Maybe I'll start trying her earlier. I was putting her down late because she was hardly sleeping and I'd prefer to be asleep when she's sleeping rather than sitting downstairs watching corrie! Things might be better now that she's a bit older. Time for another change in routine I think.

7 weeks + 2

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 14/11/2010 12:51

Cinnamon was your baby born in West Suffolk General in Bury St Edmonds?! That's where Clemmie was born Grin

7 weeks old and still only sleeps 12-6 ish, very tired but she is gorgeous!

sassy34264 · 14/11/2010 12:57

Well, yesterday started off bad but ended well. Tried on all my going out clothes (have a few 10, mostly 12's and a few 14's) NOTHING fits me! Had major depression on, crid and everything!! Have one dress, that isn't maternity but i did wear it when i was pregnant cos it's very loose.......that fit. It's a lovely dress but probably not in fashion at all at minute. Kept thinking there would be loads of girls there in the usual (christmas time) black, slivers, gold sparkly tops, dresses and i'll be sat tjhere in the only dress that fits me. Sad
Told DP in tears that i didn't want to go. He said something really nice though - along the lines of -cut yourself some slack, you had two and they were only born 3 months ago and you've not got anytime to do anything about it yet. Made me feel better.
Finally went with my (sparkly) silver v back and v fronted top and (maternity) jeans. (Umph, but heyho) Spent 2 and a half hours there and then missed them like crazy, so left dp there, picked them up and picked dp up on way back. DP had had a few, but not too many, so he was a bit amorous...........So i'm more tired than ever!!! Wink :o

I don't think you are doing anything wrong either saoirse (best not to compare with others :) )
Mine will not go down either. I have tried it a few times, but it just results in me running up and down the stairs. It seems to me thaT no matter what i do, they only settle down for the night around 11pm, so decided to work with that. I'll just get frustrated otherwise. (Jacob only went to sleep at 1.40am on fri night, despite being put in his cot at 10.30pm groan)

I bought some monitors after reviewing mumsnet reviews for monitors. BT 150 (i think) was best and has best WHICH guide too. Bought it from Amazon.

baby monitors

sassy34264 · 14/11/2010 13:12

Forgot to add that Isobel had 3 and a half oz's and Jacob had 5oz. They slept sooooooooo much more than normal. Made me seriously contemplate giving them formula before bed, but i know it's a slippery slope to drying up. Just have to hope their sleeping patterns improve soon (there are signs it might be starting to) cos i nearly dozed off with Jacob in my arms -and so nearly on the floor -the other day.

bananastew · 14/11/2010 13:56

saoirse was that really your 6 week check???? Is that what everyone else has had? Mine consisted of "are you ok?" No ones checked my tummy, boobs, tear or bum! Even though i'm being treated for an anal fissure. No one has even suggested checking!

Dixie Olly has a crib down stairs & went in that until we went to bed until he was 4 weeks. Then he went straight upstairs with the monitor in his crib so I could hear every snuffle for about a week. Its now on the table by his crib!

Remember though, there's a good few weeks between some of our los and while some have settled into a routine, some are still not quite there because they're that bit younger!

Olly 10+5 weeks

sassy34264 · 14/11/2010 14:15

I've forgot a bit what happened at my 6 week check! Blush
I remember an internal, checking my c section scar and the contraception talk. Definately didn't check my bum hole, but that might only be for vaginal births, can't remember if she checked my boobs or anything else. Oh, think she asked about bleeding too.
